In the area for a hair cut and decided pupusas sounded good for lunch. I was greeted as soon as I walked in and ordered at the counter. I was given a menu and after perusing I decided on the pollo guisado for my entree and a pork and cheese pupusa. The pupusa came out first with a slaw and sauce. The slaw was mostly pickled and less saucy but paired well with the pupusa. The guisado was served on a plate with a scoop of rice, side salad, 2 more pupusas and a container of refried beans. The guisado was stewed chicken drums and wings with potatoes and carrots in a tomatoes based broth. The pupusas were perfect to use to scoop up the sauce. Pretty great for an afternoon delight. We went here for carry-on for an impromptu early dinner. There was no one in there except the waitress and kitchen staff behind the counter. I thought the ambience was very nice, the place looks very clean, and the people were very friendly. (See my photos I posted on Yelp). It was helpful that my partner speaks Spanish fluently so he could talk to them and tell them what we wanted to eat. He also know what's really good to eat as far we El Salvadorian food goes!! I would say that the menu did look more Americanized than I expected. It is not fast food so it took about 15 minutes. I saw the cooks in the kitchen actually making the pupusas by hand to our order, so it is fresh and high-quality. The carry out food was delicious, one of the best quesadillas I've ever had. I wish we live closer to this but still plan to go there often. This was my first time there. They have a high-tech music (juke) box on the wall. They have karaoke on Friday's. I imagine it turns into a full-scale bar at that time with awesome food. I'm sure it gets very crowded. read more

Very underrated. Place is like a hole in the wall. I have been going to this place for over a year, and as a salvadorian born person, their pupusas are very well made, which is something rare for a restaurant. The staff are polite and very friendly. This is a family restaurant during the day but at night it does turn into a bar/cantina scene, and on friday and saturday they have karaoke at night. Overrall: good food, and good staff. read more

We needed good food and after a day out on the water Las Delicias hit the spot. We called ahead and asked for the chef's specials. Owner and chef Jose created a buffet style table and everyone was pleased at the taste and freshness. Everyone loved the fish and the chicken. Don't rely on the Menu found through Yelp. When I called- 3 of the 5 items I tried to order were not only unavailable- the staff seemed not to know the items were ever an option. I tried to order Tres Leches -also from the menu, but was told they had no desserts at all. I had called in the order for take-out using the Menu link on Yelp. When I picked up the 2 available items- I was charged TWICE the menu price for the Calamari Fritos , which was lukewarm, dry, tough and a very small portion -especially when compared to the many other restaurant in the Annapolis area where I've tried it. BTW, I didn't wait till I got home to try the calamari- I started on it as soon as I got in the car- so it should NOT have already been lukewarm. The pupusa was fine with tasty cabbage/carrots. What an extremely unique establishment. Honestly. Weird. First of all, it's in a strip mall sort of close to the Annapolis Mall. I was expecting it to be worthwhile when I saw that it was Salvadoran, but knew it had to be even more interesting when I saw that it was not only Salvadoran but French as well. OK. Maybe I'm just ignorant but I don't see the connection. Clue me in if you've got the info I need. But I digress... This joint started at 3 stars when I walked in and saw the unique mix of Latinos and WASPs enjoying dinner in relative harmony. The service dropped my rating down to a 1 for about 20 minutes while I waited for the beer I had ordered. There was one server and 5 tables, 2 of which were just finishing up their meal -- I've never waited tables so I don't know if that's a lot or a little but it seemed manageable to me. The server got into the zone after a while, though, and became much more efficient after one of the tables left. The rating immediately shot up to a 4 when my food came. I was hoping for sopa de pata (cow's feet soup) but they didn't seem to have it on the menu. Bummer. I did, however, order up a large bowl of sopa de mondongo (trip soup) which was laced with lots of veggies and a delicious red broth that does a great job of staining a white shirt. It was worth it. Along side I had a pork pupusa and tamal made in a banana leaf, I have to be honest I don't remember what it was called but it was really outstanding. So were the thick corn tortillas that accompanied the sopa, by the way. The most annoying thing about the place was the death metal on the jukebox. It was REALLY loud but I suppose it added character. I highly suggest enjoying your meal with a Suprema -- and order 2 right when you order your food so you don't have to wait! So this place is less than a mile from home. I have passed it a bi-zillion times and with yelp help, we stopped in and gave it a try. Indeed it was great. Must say we were the lone gringos in there, but every one was super nice. We had the papusas, not quite what I thought they would be but were great nonetheless. Then we saw the pictures of each dish on the wall. Using the visual menu, I selected the fish soup. It was fantastic. I also had the taco, choice of beef or tongue. Throwing caution to the wind, I tried the tongue. I must say it was great. Lean and spicy the green sauce was awesome. He had the Carne Asada. We both loved that too. So casual, friendly and CHEAP. They have a happy hour that runs till 8pm. My Spanish is terrible but it looks like the drinks are buy one get one free. Got the salmon filet.. which according to the menu was a blackened salmon that should have had a lobster sauce accompanying it.. got home and there was no sauce. Just a decent piece of salmon, decently seasoned.. on a bland pasta w/ salad n beans. I would probably go back and maje sure they put the sauce with it. I have passed this place every day, twice a day, for the last 2 years. I would laugh at the combo of el Salvadorian and French cuisine. I am not a food snob, nor do I turn my nose up at strip mall eating establishments. However, something about this place didn't originally draw me in. UNTIL you yelpers talked me into it. Originally we were going to stop at WaWa but I've wanted to pop my head in. Dressed in a bathing suit cover up I was worried I might be over dressed... kidding! The place was very nice. A little worn... but charm nevertheless. I wasn't starving so I just kept my main focus on smaller portions. We ordered a pupusa which was a doughy (but corn) filled piece of heaven filled with pork and cheese. As well as a house salad. First of all, although the pupusa didn't look like traditional ones (I've seen pictures of) it was delicious. And it was only 1.75!! I ordered a house salad which was huge and I was very impressed, and that was like 5! We also ordered a plantain dish that came with: scrambled eggs, chorizo, fried plantains, rice/beans, and a tamale. (Mental note for a hungover breakfast: check). Also delicious. Please come here. Good little Salvadorian food joint in a strip mall... Nothing fancy, you'd probably never notice the place had you not come across it here on Yelp, right? Service can be slow but is fine. Everything on the menu is also pictured on the wall. The food is good, I think? Though I've never had any food from El Salvador so I don't have much to compare it with. I think the chef is French too, so maybe there's a bit of influence from there too. The first time I was there I had a trout in white wine sauce... it was tasty and hit the spot. The last time I had a fajita special they had, which was a steak, chicken,and shrimp fajita... It was a tonnnnn of food but tasted just kinda "meh" in my book. Everything kind of took on the flavor of shrimp. They served it with fresh made corn tortillas. The appetizers are good... The pupusas are good (stuffed tortilla thingies). Then they have various other fried this or thats. They have a selection of beers, wine, and sangria for beverages. Bathrooms are clean. The crowd is a mix between families going out for dinner, guys out having some beers, and couples. It's a pretty big place, not overly crowded. For the price this place is a pretty good choice, even if the food might turn out to be just kind of average once in awhile. read more

Rumor has it the guy who started this place was a chef at an embassy in DC. I think it definitely shows because you get terrific meals dressed down and disguised as just a plain-old strip mall take-out joint. The chips and salsa seemed to not bode well for the rest of the meal since the chips looked suspiciously like the kind you get at a store for a football game and not the typical hot-served restaurant-made variety. But the crab bisque appetizer we had was ridiculously good and the entree was a delicious portion of rainbow trout in a crab meat sauce. But since the main advantage of dining in is being able to watch MMA matches as you eat, I suggest carry-out. read more

Pupusas, Sopa de mondongo, sangria, OH MY. This little place is totally unassuming, hidden behind a wawa and next to a pizza and taco express. Needless to say my expectations were low. My friend and I were greeted by the friendly folks behind the counter and they gave us some suggestions. We went for the pupusas, sopa de mondongo (tripe soup), and a meat platter for sharing. Pupusas are my favorite thing in the world. The simple flavors and love that goes into them reminds me of picking them up off street carts in El Salvador. These did not dissapoint. We got the plain cheese, pork and cheese and spinach ones and wow. I mean excellent texture and taste, I could have probably just have eaten these and for 1.75 each, I will stop by for these as a quick snack too. Don't dismiss the cabbage slaw that comes with these, it is so good. I am currently dealing with a serious food baby because the rest of our meal was so good we couldn't stop eating. Everything was fresh, delicious, perfectly marinated. If you like different things, I really suggest any of the soups. The tripe soup was amazing and perfectly seasoned. Sangria for 5 a cup was also the perfect compliment to the flavors, or maybe I was just looking to get drunk. Either way, both tasks were accomplished. The only reason I'm giving this place four stars is the physical restaurant isn't very nice. We got our stuff to go. read more

This place is real deal. I was excited to see they had Tecate so I ordered one and my boyfriend had a coke. Reading over the menu is like taking a trip to Central/South America. There is a lot of French food but also a lot of El Salvadorian cuisine. I'm going to have to agree with the other yelpers in surmising the chef is probably classically trained and has both regions cuisine on the menu. Agreeing again with other yelpers their chips and salsa were a joke. This was actually really depressing. That is probably the easiest thing to make. Their store bought bag chips weren't even the good kind. They were totally a store knockoff bland brand. The salsa was probably also a lackluster store brand. It was not good. We started off with the crab/avocado salad. I originally ordered the ceviche but they were sadly out. It was okay. I think it could've used a little more seasoning and it should've been served colder. It was room temperature which really isn't that appetizing when eating avocados or crab. For our entrée we had papusas, tamales, fried yucca, and fried tamales. The papusas were really good. The slaw was a little tart but the accompanied sauce added the much needed sweetness and spice. They were the best. The fried yuccas were good but were a little tough. As if they were fried and sat under a heat lamp hardening. They weren't bad, just not very special. The fried tamales were delicious. They almost tasted like friend cornbread which I'm a huge fan of. They were moist on the inside and crunchy on the outside. The regular tamales were okay. They were surprisingly a little soggy. I spent more time with the fried tamales. All in all, decent food, decently priced. I would stick with the papusas and fried tamales. Food itself is pretty good, the beef tongue toco I ordered is really delicious. My only complain is the loudness and music. I don't know if they have different owner or they just change the theme on Friday, because the table color was blue not red, and it's actually more like a pub than a restaurant, with disco lights and extremely loud music. It's not like the photos I saw on yelp at all. I walked in around 7:30 and many people there have been already way drunk. You may not want to bring kids or go this place without any company. This place is one-of-a-kind. It is definitely a hidden gem. It is hidden in a mini strip-mall-type area off of Bestgate Road, and if it hadn't been recommended to me, I never would have found it, but I am SO glad I did. The pupusas are delicious and so is the seafood stew that I ordered. Absolutely wonderfully cooked everything. My mom ordered fish and she loved the way it was cooked. We also had a shrimp appetizer that was amazing. Don't forget to save room for dessert, too!! They have desserts that you won't find anywhere else. The service is wonderful. Shockingly and unexpectedly delicious food at Las Delicias! My wife and I were heading to the eastern shore and got caught up in snarling traffic, which is never fun when you have a screaming, hungry baby in tow. Las Delicias was the best rated restaurant we could find on Yelp. We weren't expecting much but all of our food was absolutely delicious. I've never seen tamales that looked like theirs but the sweet corn flavor and crispy fried coating hit the spot. And the special dish with bifstec and eggs was unique and flavorful. Stopped in on a whim last Sunday afternoon. I just happened to see the sign that said French and Salvadorian food which brought you into one of the most nondescript shopping centers ever. Walked up to the door announcing non acceptance of any restaurant.com coupons, and opened the door. No lie, at 3pm on a Sunday, these people were rocking out BLASTING the music, i thought it was a nighclub. I stood at the door, with the door still open, and had to yell to the waitress whether the place was actually open or whether a party was going on. NOPE, this was SOP=standard operating procedure. Bad news but we had to pee and we were hungry. (the other note on the door said bathrooms were for patrons only lmao) We ran into the bathroom and washed our hands. Looked at the menu and ordered 4 tacos from the specials, crab soup and sopa de res ( beef soup). i didn't expect much but everything was DELICIOUS. i know, absolutely unexpected. I could only say i was stuffed, but requested everything to be packed up and sent home with me. as we were waiting, we realize that most menu items and their pics were actually on the wall above the bar area. Wish we had seen that when we walked in, but i will definitely come back to check this place out. the people were friendly, the music loud, but the food was AMAZING. read more

But we like to give anyone a chance and courageously walked in. We loved the food. I never order salmon but I tried the one my husband got and it was delicious. This place is a tiny strip mall gem with great food and low prices. Made a reservation for 8 on a Tuesday night with my bunco girlfriends and we hung out for 2 hours eating great food. During this period we were joined by a table of 4 and a table of 2 gringos and one table of 2 Latinos. The waitress was very helpful and accomodating and we did not wait long for anything despite the size of our group. The menu has many choices - some unbelievably inexpensive. The seafood soup that others have commented on was definitely stellar. Great body and full of seafood. I tried one of the appetizer specials - duck confit over a garden salad - and the flavor was excellent. The tamal de pollo and the fried plantains were good too. As far as beverages - there was a lot of sangria, tecate, and negra modelo at our table. The sangria was served with a spoon so you could enjoy the fresh and potent fruit (apple, orange, lemon) that was floating in the glass. This is a strip mall location, but the tables have cloth napkins and cloth tablecloths and the arrangement of tables is comfortable - not too many, not too few. There are two tvs running constantly, which is always distracting, but there was no sound and the background music was not too loud. My girlfriends and I all agreed that we would be back; and since this is about a mile from my house I also expect to be stopping by for carryout from time to time. read more

Given some relatively positive reviews, we stopped at the restaurant recently. While the tortilla chips were indeed store bought, they had at least warmed them and the salsa was no worse than most restaurants. My partner and I both ordered the house salad. It was very good and certainly fresh. The entree I ordered was the roasted chicken. My partner ordered the trout. While the trout looked lovely and was indeed judged to be very good by my partner, my chicken was abysmal. I ordered it as I have had Salvadoran chicken that was delicious. I had tried to ask the serving staff if the chicken had been marinated, but they couldn't understand a word I said. I took the risk and ordered it anyway. That was a HUGE mistake. The chicken was almost uneatable dry, leading me to conclude it could have been cooked days before. There was zero flavor, even the skin. It was served with a small salad (OK) and refried beans and rice. While the beans were again OK, the rice while fresh was flavorless. For $12.95 I expected something I would have enjoyed. I regret not ordering the flounder. Would I go back to this place again. No, probably not. The lesson if you do go is one I gleaned from other reviews: order the "french" items or the basic Salvadoran items. Don't order anything else! read more

My friend and I adore this place! We had the best plantains ever with crema and bean dipping sauces. The plantains were succulent, caramelized, and tender. Slate.com taught me that the perfect mouth feel of food is known as "amplitude" like Hellmann's mayonnaise or Heinz ketchup. Please experience the amplitude of these plantains! We also had a taco and a taco salad, which were both amazing. It was a divine experience. The service was doting and friendly. Food is delicious. I haven't had a bad dish yet. The Salvadorian specialties are under $5 as well. Yes, you read that correctly. The pupusas are $1.75 each and I honestly fill up after 2 or so. This place is extremely affordable, the food and service is great, and the best part is that they use fresh ingredients. I have witnessed them carry in fresh product as I was eating. Wow, just Wow! For those who don't want to read my entire review let me say... Food- 3 Menu-2 Service- non existent. Definitely deserves a large negative number. We had an early lunch here today. Chips and salsa were brought to the table. Chips were decent, the salsa was a huge disappointment. It was all liquid, no chunks of anything resembling salsa of any sort. Plus, the liquid wasn't all that appetizing to make things worse. We ordered drinks, mostly waters and a few iced teas, nothing fancy. We were the only people in the restaurant eating besides another table of two people. Somehow it still took 5, closer to 10 minutes for our drinks to arrive. This was a sign of things to come... The menus we were given were extremely limited, nowhere near the one presented here on yelp. I flipped through the two pages hoping to find something that sounded good. Either play it safe with an American sandwich (club, philly cheese steak, etc.) or be daring and eat cow tongue and the like. I finally decided on fajitas, thinking it would be a safe bet. Our food took quite a while to come out, but to be fair there was a lot of it. The fajitas had a combination of steak, chicken, and shrimp. I was shocked to notice that none of the shrimp had their tails removed, which seemed extremely odd for a fajita plate. All in all, it was very good, but others at the table weren't happy with their meals. Service was definitely the downfall of this place. Keeping in mind we were 1 of 2 tables eating here, we were not routinely checked on. In fact, I had to catch another waitress to refill my water. Thinking they would bring a pitcher and refill the water of everyone else at the table (4 out of 6 glasses were completely empty), she brought me a fresh glass of water and walked away. Seriously!? The next time someone else came by was about 15 minutes later, and everyone else requested to have their glasses refilled. I seriously considered walking up to the lady behind the bar and saying "do your job!" because she just sat there staring into space the whole time. If the restaurant is empty, why not help out where you can!? Besides the chips and salsa, most of the food here is good if you can find something on their limited menu. But it is clear that the staff does not care at all about their customers. On a separate note, I noticed the soap dispenser in the men's bathroom was completely empty. That sent gross thoughts through my head as I noticed the "all employees must wash their hands" sign on the door. When a traffic accident prevented us from exiting near the restaurants we knew we somehow ended up here for lunch. We're pleasantly surprised by our experience. Fantastic food! Owner was a chef at Annapolis French Restaurant. I am amazed at all the good food...there's something for every taste. It's run like a small mom and pop place and the good thing is that no one knows about it. I am a regular there and have tried the fried calamari, fresh artichokes, crab flam, cream brulee, cantaloupe soup, and mushroom soup...all home-made and reasonably priced. If you like fish, I recommend the trout, talipia, or flounder dishes. The whole snapper is good too. Service is fast, food is great...much better than the pizza and chinese food that is served in the other cafes next door. read more
