Tried this out over lunch on a Tuesday. It was very quiet inside. Ambiance was very on point for Mexican culture- very colorful with Spanish music that reminded me of Coco. Service was decent. My friend and I went on an adventure using the Metro and Metrolink system and ended up in DTLA. The very first sitdown restaurant we saw was Las Anitas at the entrance along Cesar E Chavez and Alameda. It gave cueva vibes with the low cieling and intimate indoor area. He ordered the Chile Verde and I had Costillas de Puerco and Nopales. The food hits. It was my first time having an authentic uncommon Mexican meal and I'm a fan. So I rarely write reviews but in this case I needed to. My family and I decided to give this place a try, atmosphere was good, waitress friendly. As for the food my son ordered the waffle asada nachos and said they were ok, hubby ordered Chili Verde and let me say it was so salty and had no flavor. I tried it to see if he was over reacting but no he wasn't I had to spit my food in my napkin. I felt bad and told him to reorder but he felt like he would have pissed the cook off. As for my meal I ordered the steak and chicken fajita.. Bad Decision as well. The chicken had No authentic flavor and I couldn't chew the steak I couldn't believe this was being served it honestly seemed rubbery and not made with patience at all. Decent looking restaurant that is clean and cute inside. Food was not good though. Guacamole and chips to start were very bland. It tasted almost like there wasn't any salt added. I ordered the crisp beef tacos (shredded beef) and it was the worst crispy taco I've ever had. The beef was so incredibly dry and bland that even adding salsa on top couldn't save it. Beans and rice were okay but I don't expect the restaurant to mess that up. My group also tried the enchiladas and taquitos, which were also disappointing. They came out very bland and all soooo dry. Let's start with the positives: the customer service was amazing, and the restaurant was very clean and refreshing. The air conditioning was also great. The only issue I had was with the food. I ordered crunchy chicken tacos, which came with beans, rice, and a salad. The price wasn't too bad at $24, including a soda. The chicken in the tacos tasted like it had been boiled in water without any seasoning. The rice had zero flavor and might as well have been plain white rice. We ordered a small pozole and a soft taco plate and our total was around $36. It was quick and efficient service which I appreciated and our host checked our on multiple times. The pozole was amazing and it's hard to come by in the west side so I loved it, but seeing how someone previously mentioned some of the soups are not made fresh does make me a little wary. read more

It was decorated like an authentic Mexican restaurant and the waitress was nice. However the food was such a disappointment. I thought I was playing it safe by ordering taquitos plate. The description said taquitos with guacamole sauce. However the taquitos were smothered in what seemed to be salsa verde. The chips were not burned but had a burnt taste and so did the taquitos. I asked for double rice instead of beans. Instead of double rice I was served a salad (no dressing). We waited for the waitress to return she never did so we went up to the register and waited. This is my favorite part of Los Angeles Olvera Street, completely forgot our waiter's name I want to think it's Jose. They got us in quickly even though there was a group of 14 people of head of us! It's a small spot, the food was great, and nicely priced, I had a nice margarita. I actually thought Chile Riano, that hot chili I'm not sure I'm spelling it right, was top notch. read more

We were walking around Placita Olvera, and hadn't had breakfast yet. This place looked quaint and cozy, so we stopped by....Big mistake.... Short and sweet, I LOVE MENUDO!!! And I can tell when its bad...or not cooked correctly, and as you can see in the picture, it was disgusting....I asked the waitress if the Menudo was fresh, and she said "no, it was made yesterday, and pre-heated today." My family and I were at Our Lady Queen of Angels Church nearby for a baptism on a Sunday morning. After the services, we strolled down Olvera Street looking for a place to have breakfast. We came upon Las Anitas and decided to give it a try. The ambiance seemed inviting and the gentleman at the entrance welcomed us in and led us to our table in the back. I ordered the Olvera special which had a tamal, a cheese enchilada, and a beef taco. My wife ordered the chilaquiles, while my kids ordered kid specials off the kid's menu. The service was prompt and the food tased good. The sauce they douse all over the tamal and enchilada is a bit acidic for my taste buds but it was tolerable. As much as I would like to say that our visit was a positive experience, sadly I can't. As we were eating and about to wind down, a couple of roaches came out from behind the seat I was at and scurried over to the frame on the wall. I quickly tell my wife we need to get out of there when she sees the roaches scurrying up the wall, she couldn't help but let out a small shriek of horror. We didn't want to make a scene so we quickly made our wait to the front and I informed the server and asked for the check. To my surprise when I told the server that there were roaches by our table, she replied, "How?...well, I didn't see them." And she walked away supposedly to investigate. I opted to pay the bill and leave. This is one place I definitely will not be retuning to. If there are roaches on the seats; they're everywhere else in there. Stay away! read more

Stopped in to this quaint spot located on Olvera St. We were not looking for food but instead wanted an authentic michelada. The restaurant is underground, and decorated in traditional Mexican fare. We were greeted at the door as there was a nice woman ushering passersby's into the restaurant. The chips and salsa were decent and were provided to us free of charge as soon as we were seated. The michelada was tasty enough, I've definitely had better but prices were reasonable and the restaurant is a cool place to take a break. I came in on a rainy day during the holidays and was seated right away I tried a pomegranate margarita and the Asada fries because they come highly recommended. I enjoyed the margarita with the agave wine , very refreshing. When my asada fries came I couldn't believe it , they're huge ! The fries are very good . They're perfectly seasoned and crispy , perfect waffle fries . The toppings were generous, you can easily share these . My only minor issue is the asada , it didn't have much favor. I had the combination plate of a Chile replenish, an enchilada and a taco. I asked for a rolled taco and they did give me one which was super great! Our waitress was very efficient and welcoming. It was a bit pricy for Mexican food but they do have to pay rent for the venue. Very cute Mexican place I would go back to if in the neighborhood to just order the chili relleno. Inviting garden level restaurant with festive colors. In the historic Olvera Street, downtown....across from the main post office, not far from Union Station with street parking a couple blocks south near the French dip sandwich institution known as Phllippes. So down the stairs into the below street level restaurant.... atmosphere albeit dark is festive, with multi-pastel-colored chairs...both my friend and I were first timers here... We were seated right away...chips and salsa for free....ordered within 15 minutes: PIBLAN (pumpkin sauce) with soy "meat"...came with whole beans and Spanish rice. The dish was nice...the soy meat was like hamburger that you'd find in tacos...the sauce was thick like mole...it had a mild kick and a smoky quality to the flavor...you get three corn tortillas on the side. I could have had this as an enchilada, I think it would have been cheaper that say. My dish was about $14. Pricey, but nice. CRUNCHY BEEF TACOA. Standard rice and refried beans. My friend said it was fine. Mine was fine. Our food came within another 10 minutes...which was just fine. Seamless meal. OVERALL: Great to find soyrizo and soy meat substitute. Not sure about the cheese, but there was none on the PIBLAN. So thanks for offering the options. It was fine. A little pricey. Not horrible. Not amazing. Avoid this restaurant at all costs. Even if it is the only restaurant open and you are starving! We went here today during a family trip to Olivera street. BIG MISTAKE. How can a Mexican restaurant in this area be so bad. I do not understand how you can mess up the most basic and common Mexican dishes. I had cheese enchiladas. They were cold in the center and the cheese wasn't even melted. The beans and rice were so bland and tasteless I was wondering if I lost my sense of taste. I wish I was joking. My daughter ordered the tamales and didn't even eat them and didn't want to take them to go! They were so bad. My husband got a shredded beef taco. He's not even picky and didn't like it. This place is a gem for Vegetarian eaters if you're hungry and on Olivera Street in DTLA. With many options to choose from on the menu, this place is delicious. Stopped in for a quick bite to eat on a Saturday before catching a train to head back home, we were quite impressed. The size of the dining area is rather small due to the history behind this place, yet it's a comfortable environment to eat in. I was in the area on a business trip and decided to come here for lunch. This place definitely feels authentic, has a nice welcoming vibe. I arrived right before the place got packed so I was sat at the bar in the back with only 3 chairs. I got chips with salsa, and ordered chilaquiles rojo with beans rice, and 2 sunny-side eggs. The eggs seemed a bit runny, the chilaquiles had no flavor whatsoever, and once the place got packed I no longer saw a waiter/waitress. When I was finished I had to get up and go stand in line to get my bill and pay. Keep in mind that I wasn't the only one in line, seems they can't handle that kind of volume yet. If I was in the area, I'd give this place another chance. But just one more. read more

This is my go-to spot when I'm around the area. I don't only like the food, decor, service and ambiance which are amazing; but the music they play! Old school romantic rancheras. At times there's a Trio going around tables if you want a serenade while eating there lol. What I really enjoy here are their margarita on the rocks, the mango one is my fave. Also their carne asada and garlic shrimp plates and the carne asada fries. Most of their plates come with rice (great Mexican style one), refried beans, a side of small salad or grilled veggies and tortillas (you choose from corn and flour). Their chips and salsa are always on point and their aguas frescas taste really fruity unlike other places around the area. Everyone seems to be happy and amiable when I'm there. Bathroom is clean and doesn't stink lol. Place is really small but very inviting. I never had dessert before 'cause I'm usually stuffed when I'm done; but I recently had their capirotada which is a dessert they make mostly for Lent. It was really good it reminded me of bread pudding with melted cheese, fruits and walnuts. You must try! I've had it differently but this one style was really good.
