This is a hole-in-the-wall type of Colombian bakery that serves an assortment of pastries, cakes, and savory items (chicharron, sausages/chorizo), and different types of empanadas. It's a corner spot with some seating inside. If you go later in the afternoon, the selection isn't too great. However, I enjoyed what I was able to get my hands on.
Arepas de Choclo: I'm not sure if it's just me, but the arepas here are really tasty! The arepas themselves are already flavorful, but the large thick slice of salty cheese kicked it up a notch. Heat it up or ask the staff to heat them up for you. It makes a huge difference, in my opinion.
Beef Empanadas: Not bad. I've noticed that potatoes are really common in empanadas at almost every Latin American bakery I've been to. I liked the ones here since the potatoes are soft and creamy; it matched well with the shredded beef. However, I've certainly had better.
I also bought a medium Pan de Queso. My understanding was that these are filled with cheese, but the cheese is just a topping. The bread is soft and great for breakfast, as a snack, or paired with something savory. I also saw some alfajores, bunuelos, and pan de coco among other familiar pastries. If I do come back for anything, it would most likely be for the arepas. Las Americas Bakery II is pretty no frills, but it's a solid neighborhood bakery. read more
