We did the bottomless brunch today and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The drinks were free-flowing, servers were attentive, and food was delicious. I had the Ultimate Chicken Breakfast Sandwich, and split a brownie sundae with a friend, and the portions were large. The only reason I didn't give a five star rating was because of confusion over our reservation "grace period." According to our reservation, we were supposed to be given 15 minutes grace period. Seven minutes after our reservation time, the hostess called me, asking where we were. I told her that we were just a few minutes away, and that we would definitely be there within the allotted 15 minute grace period. She instructed us that they could try and hold the table for "a little longer" but that they couldn't hold it for the full 15 minutes...Luckily, we arrived in time, but just be aware---don't run late for a reservation if it's busy, no matter what the reservation information says! read more

First off, I love the environment of lark I think it's super cute and cozy. The back patio is something we didn't expect it to have and it's so nice and private. We had the pumpkin ciders and honestly we loved them so much we could come back just for these ciders they are delicious! The breadsticks are some of the best I've ever had, super fresh and the fact that they gave us a big side of marinara sauce is a huge bonus lol. Lark is an upscale pub in Boystown with a full wood fired pizza oven and a large patio. They cater to a wide and diverse audience in their eclectic bar and restaurant. They are on Halsted between Addison and Belmont. I attended a surprise birthday party here on the back patio. The staff did a great job with heavy appetizers and a nice bar setup. Their patio area is set up like your cool friend's backyard with a huge television, lots of patio furniture, and other decorations. You are even surrounded by real fire escapes and apartments in a urban area. The food was good and inventive with great flavors. The bar staff was mixing up nice drinks and pouring a good selection of wine and beer on a rather hot and humid summer night. Inside the setup was a bit more awkward with lots of stairs to enter and exit all the rooms. Unfortunately I did not get any of the wood fired pizza! Lark is likely a popular place with many people. Just moved to the neighborhood and quickly found my new spot! I've been here three times and each time was great. I love the environment, the staff is absolutely wonderful- super attentive and sociable (shout out to Kelly who was a rock star with my order modifications). The food is great- happy hour deals make it even better, so get there before 7! They even carry the beyond burger which is a nice change from most restaurants who have a measly microwaveable black bean patty, much appreciated. We came in on a Friday at 6:30ish for a quick dinner and were seated immediately. The place was not empty by an means and continued to fill up through our time there. Props to the friendly host for being prompt and explaining happy hour/October specials. Our server Kelly was a peach! He was so friendly and knowledgeable of the draft selection. He explained every last thing I had a question about. His suggestion for my drink and appetizer were on the point. TRUST the process with this man! We went with the cheesy breadsticks and the Italiano pizza to share. It was definitely enough food for two people. I'm guilty of having a bitter taste in my mouth from the prior restaurant in this space, Halsted's, which IMO had bad food and service. Hence, since Lark was the same owners I hesitated to return and had low expectations. Let me eat crow, those expectations were exceeded. Lark seems to do everything Halsted's did wrong, right. So much so, it's prob not even fair to be comparing the two. In fact since it's a different business so now I'm second guessing myself for comparing the two. The service was awesome - friendly and attentive and helped us newbies navigate the menu. Food was tasty and a good value and portion size for the price. My one negative and it is MINOR is the prosciutto added to the meat pizza after the 'za was cooked. Cold chewy meat on a hot pizza - odd. But everything else we ordered was great (including the adult beverages). They also have daily specials to lure you in during the week. But again, the staff that served us deserve the kudos bc they made us feel so welcome that we want to come back. All in all a great experience. But, as a neighborhood resident maybe I deserve to lose a star or two for being so hesitant to try Lark sooner. read more

I'm so happy I found this place! My boyfriend and I came in for a less-Cubs-fan dinner before a home game on a Tuesday night. Fair warning: Tuesday night is trivia night, but there's no obligation to play. We'll likely come back to participate- it looked fun! We walked in and stood sort of awkwardly at the door (clearly first-timers). Someone eventually came over to guide us to the host stand (further into the room, on the left) where we would be seated. This play is a great spot for brunch or dinner, right in the heart of Boystown. First, the aesthetic of Lark is cozy. Lark also has a top covered back patio, which helps in the summertime to beat the sun but still enjoy outdoor dining. The menu is decent with a lot of different options and great drink options. There's also a lot of great events, like drag shows and free bingo with prizes (on Thursdays). If you're out and about in Boystown, I highly recommend popping in. One note to Lark: please consider adding Apple Pay/Google Pay for a paying method. It would be nice not to have our cards touch other people's hands. I've been to Lark multiple times and typically have no particular complaints or raves about the place. I came in with a group of 7 Saturday for brunch at 1. It was rather busy and our server Martin took about 15 minutes to come over to our table - no worries. We went ahead and put our drink and food orders in then. After about 45 minutes, we hadn't received food, we drank all our waters as well as our drinks. We had seen other tables seated after us, although smaller, receive their food while we were waiting. In the meantime, we had asked for a couple of the orders to go because our friends probably didn't have time to eat there. By this point one of our friends had to leave to catch a flight, and I politely asked Martin if we could just cancel his order since he wouldn't be able to eat it. He snapped back that if there was another big table before us which was why our food was delayed, and that we should have said something if we were short on time - as if not having food for an hour after sitting was completely normal. No apology, no courtesy, nothing. It felt like being at Ed Debevics, except that there was no joke to be in on here. We resorted to going to the bar to get drinks. By this point, another person I believe to be the manager offered us a round of complimentary purple shots and said it would be another 15 minutes for our food orders to come up. This was nice, although it would have been nicer if Martin had come by earlier and said the kitchen was backed up and it would take longer for our food to come out than usual. We suspect perhaps he forgot to put our order in earlier. We got our food and it was fine. By this point another friend had to leave soon and asked if he could get his check. Martin said we were all on one check and wouldn't accommodate. Fine. We got our check and nothing had been comped, and the 18% gratuity was already added. I presume that this was because we were a party of 7, but it was clear they knew service was compromised. As someone who worked as a server, I would have still left a tip. However there was just no acknowledgement on the restaurant's part that anything had gone wrong, other than some cheap purple shots. Anything would have helped to stave off a 1 star review, but this was by far the worst experience I've ever had at a restaurant. read more

Arrived at Lark and asked if we could sit outside. They said no there were no seats. There were but they were 4 tops and obviously the didn't want to give them to a party of 2. My food never arrived after my friend ate half his pizza. I finally found the waiter and he magically found my food once I complained. (Isn't it funny how that happens?). The table next to us had the same issue - one person was eating their food and the other wasn't getting his. These were not complicated orders - I had a sandwich. The other guy had ordered wings. The food was good but certainly not good enough to endure this bad service. It wasn't even that crowded really even with a street fair going on. Came here through a Groupon valentine dinner and it was a complete mistake... Service was not bad. Our complaint is the food and the value for money. For $80 between 2 people, we received 1) a very small bowl of salad 2) 2 meatballs for an appetizer 3) a main course with a chicken fried to hell - literally so hard that I could barely bite into it without breaking my teeth 4) a drink that was half off on the day we came in (so like $5 worth) On top of that, they had the audacity to slap a 18% automatic gratuity between two people. Granted it was Valentine's Day, but seriously? I thought groupons were supposed to bundle up deals and give you a good value for what you were buying for. Service was great! There are also board and card games scattered around the restaurant for you to play which I loved. We started off with mimosas (which are made with fresh squeezed OJ) and meatballs. I ordered the biscuits and gravy. My boyfriend had the steak breakfast burrito. The meatballs could have used more flavor. The biscuits were dry and crumbly so I ended up mainly eating the sausage patty that was sandwiched between the biscuits. The breakfast burrito was huge. There were a lot of fat pieces of steak rather than the actual meat in the burrito. My boyfriend said it was just ok. Our server was attentive and friendly though.
