My wife was excited to share Larch with me, she had been before with friends and neighbors. All the offerings we ordered from cocktails and appetizer, salad and main dishes with a nice wine were memorable. Dan our waiter was very attentive and pleasant. All dishes were delivered in a timely manner, almost too timely, we felt slightly rushed. Our experience and evening was ruined when the less than tactful, even rude, hostess informed us we had 15 minutes to finish because she had another reservation for the table (they were no where near full capacity at the time). We did NOT appreciate being rushed out the door after such a nice evening. As I voiced my displeasure with the hostess on our way out, her comment to me was to "post a review" on their website, so, here it is. Let me share another perspective because these reviews are wild to us. I think this is honestly a 1.5 star spot. Maybe it's the happy vibe of Leavenworth that has everyone in a 4/5 star mood. Or like us, staying at the Post Hotel and feeling extra relaxed and generous. I get all that. But Larch felt like a 1 star unless we just hit an off night? Unfortunately, we'll never know because the food was so fast and bad - we won't be coming back. Walk in and it does have a decent vibe in the tiny spot, we're feeling good. Service was eh, fine. We noted 'anniversary' on our reservation but zero recognition of that. All good but weird. Drinks were fine, not great but not terrible. But, then the food...solid menu, pasta choices looked good. Ordered the pumpkin ravioli and the casarece. We ordered, and no joke (and no exaggeration)...food was out in about 3ish minutes. NEVER a good sign. Like, that's just disrespectful when dropping over $100. Hurt the vibe. But what actually murdered the vibe, was the food itself. The casarece looked like slop in a bowl - was it soup? Nope. It was super runny and just real bad. Presentation was "I give zero F's" in a plate. Ate a few bites and was done. Pumpkin ravioli has to be solid right? Nope, not a 3 minute version. Very dry, no sauce and just blah. Also, couldn't finish. We were so rushed, food came out so fast and here goes your check - only had a drink for our anniversary. Ugh. Fortunately, we walked across the street over to 76 - got a bottle, a 6 pack and some chips - went back to the Post and had a better time in the lobby with some Doritos than being in Larch. Never feels good or comfortable calling out a spot but they got plenty of the other perspectives so they'll be fine. It just felt disrespectful to us when you spend your time and money with that result so felt like it was important to provide another perspective. Excellent pasta! 4/5 of us ordered a new item on the menu, which was a crab ravioli in a sun dried tomato cream sauce topped with saffron shrimp. It was absolutely delicious. The linguine with scallops was also delicious. For dessert we tried the tiramisu and the crème brûlée cheesecake, which was too sweet for my liking. But I really enjoyed the tiramisu!! This is definitely a reservation required spot. We walked in, and instantly the hostess let us know they had no walk in room, so thankfully we had a reservation. The Mushrooms were absolutely delicious and definitely earn their place in the "must try" category. The Casarecce was a unique combination of flavors artfully paired together to perfection. It was a little spicy (which they tell you about when you order) so if you don't like medium spice it wouldn't be for you. I don't understand the rave reviews, based on our experience. We started with the focaccia accompanied by "spiced tomato oil." The focaccia itself was excellent--best thing we had all night. Note, however, that the "spiced tomato oil" was just marinara sauce. It was not an oil dipping sauce as the name implied. One example of what I thought was a somewhat pretentious description of the food. I had the grilled peach salad starter. It came out with NO dressing. I asked for some and once I dressed the salad myself, it was tasty and I enjoyed it. My dining companion had the "bronze die" bucatini verde for her main course. They were out of bucatini and substituted another pasta. My friend enjoyed it but found the pasta to be overcooked. I had the sablefish piccata with "bronze die pressed cappelletti pasta" in a lemon white wine sauce with capers, artichokes and spring asparagus. Sounded so good but was completely lacking in flavor and the "bronze die pressed" pasta was just seriously overcooked capellini with a fancy description. No artichokes that I could see but I did get some nice carrots. I asked the waitress for more sauce, lemon wedges, and Parmesan cheese, and those ingredients, along with a healthy dose of salt, improved the dish. But, for the steep prices and pretentious food descriptions (what are the " bronze dies" and how in the world do they add to the dishes???), I would not expect to have to basically finish the seasoning on my own at the table. To their credit, they comped us that dish. I would not go there again, and, unfortunately, cannot recommend it. read more

Came here out of luck as it's tucked in a little alley way, but boy did it come out swinging for best food I had this weekend. The place was packed when we got there, but we were lucky enough to get seats at the bar. Highly recommend booking reservations beforehand to make sure you get a table. We got there around 5:30pm and the next available table, if we didn't want the bar, was 9pm! It was our last night so we decided to splurge a little, as the menu was a bit pricey. Was it worth it? Absolutely. Got a glass of Chardonnay and a Schrute Farm cocktail. Named after the sitcom, The Office, that I watched religiously, I knew I had to get it. It was good and not too sweet and had a bit of a bite to it, which I pleasantly enjoyed. Our inside joke was getting clams at every restaurant we went to while in Leavenworth, but the clams here were probably our favorite. Although smaller in size compared to other places, the sauce and herb brodo complimented each other so well, tasting so fresh without being too overpowering or taking away from the clams. I got the prochetta and my partner got the mushroom ravioli. The mushroom ravioli was delicious and had so much flavor to each bite. The balsamic sauce to the cheese, it all worked together so well. Honestly, the only complaint was that it was so much flavor that it got to be a little too much throughout the meal. Needed some veggies or something on the side to help with it. Overall, a great dish and would recommend. I ended up choosing the porchetta after seeing a table next to us get it. The pork shoulder was cooked perfectly, where each bite just melted in my mouth and still was super tender and moist! The sausage and fennel filling was a good contrast in texture to the pork shoulder. The polenta was probably one of the best polentas I had in my lifetime and paired with the veggies, this dish was the star of the show. So many different flavors that complimented each other, I finished the entire plate leaving nothing behind. My stomach and soul were happy from the meal, absolutely no complaints. If you are like me, food is a big part of my travel adventure. So, once we decided to take a long weekend in Leavenworth, Wa, I started looking for that one place to highlight during our walkabout. I didn't want the usual Bavaran fare, so I found this restaurant called Larch by Chef Ben Herreid. This place boasts homemade pasta combined with northwest bounty. As I read the menu, I could see Chef Ben's vision and it sounded delicious. (This is where my husband reminds me that if I don't write it, people won't read it) However, having a vision and executing the vision are two different things. The restaurant has a welcoming vibe and a very professional staff. My food however.. not so much. I had the short rib raviolo - hand formed braised beef raviolo, seasonal mushrooms, red wine bordelaise sauce, roasted root vegetables, horseradish apple gremolata ... the best thing about that dish was the short rib. The raviolo was al dente, which fresh pasta should be but it was not delicate or pleasant. The roasted root vegetables confused me and I couldn't figure out what they were. They were crispy little strips with no flavor. I kept looking at them trying to figure them out and then it hit me. Pretty sure they Terra veggie chips .. the ones from the black bag. This dish was an epic fail! My husband liked the crab and shrimp filled Mezzaluna pasta dish but I was super disappointed. They did make great cocktails and I liked our waiter, but would not eat there again. Way too pricey for the area and the quality. EVERYONE needs to try this place. I just wish it wasn't all the way in Leavenworth. I was visiting Leavenworth during my Seattle trip to explore some of the nearby hikes. We were in search for a dinner spot, and I'm so happy we were able to get a last minute dinner reservation here. I loved my pasta and the portion was huge! Thought the handmade noodles were perfect with the light lemon sauce went well together. The arancini balls were really great too! The food came out very quickly and the service was awesome. After numerous recommendations, I find it hard to go more than 3 stars. It was hopefully just our experience, on that given day (a Wednesday night?) but I just wasn't impressed. We made a reservation - so we were seated right away, in the bar. The bartender is bartending as well as serving (and the bar was packed) which seemed a lot for one person. I felt rushed, didn't know what they would recommend, and I wouldn't say I'm terribly indecisive but I was hoping for a more pleasant service experience. Everything is handmade - and the pasta is great quality and cool shapes. I ordered one of the vegan options - which was pasta with a coconut cream gochujang sauce. What came out was a gochujang sauce with very little coconut cream and was so spicy I just couldn't eat it - which for me, is really unusual since I eat fire normally. I don't know what was wrong. We also tried the focaccia - which was just ok, and the arrancini which were again just ok. The best dish was my sister's gorgonzola ravioli - which was EXCELLENT. The hardest part of our experience, sitting in the bar, was the noise level. Not only was it noisy, someone in the back who was cooking was continuously whistling, LOUD. It was so off-putting, completely weird with the overhead music playing, and it just seemed to get louder. I hate even bringing this up but we were both just annoyed. So summary: the ravioli was excellent, the drinks were good (I forgot to mention that above) the rest of the food was OK. Service was OK. I recommend getting reservations, and possibly avoiding the bar area if you can. The dining room was also packed but looked like there were a few more servers. If you are looking for an intimate quiet place for a nice dinner, Larch is not it. Tables were close together and the noise level was almost unbearable. My family took me here for my birthday dinner. We order the focaccia bread ($6) and crab/shrimp cake ($16) for appetizers and added the highly recommended Cesar salad ($8). All were decent but nothing to rave about. For the entrees, I get the squid ink linguini ($26). The pasta was swimming in the sauce. Hubby got the Lasagne ($25); the portion was small and sloppy. Daughter got the crab and shrimp Meze Luna. Overall, food flavor was ok but ambiance non-existent and way too loud. For the fine dining price, you won't get the fine dining experience. read more
