Thank goodness that good competent businesses like this critical one stay in business against such cut-throat competition. Almost 6 years later after Dave saved me initially, my laptop overheated (96 degrees C !!!) severely / Shut-Down last weekend. I tore thru my old reviews and found him still going strong and in one call we set up a repair plan suspecting a fan failure. TODAY (5 days later including fan shipment) Dave opened my PC and noted a part label had detached & got caught in my fan --blocking its turning / CPU cooling. As we already had everything tore apart he put the new fan in anyway for optimal cooling -- CHEAP insurance against hardware melt-downs. All done in 90 minutes while I had coffee close by. All things come to an end, sadly. I've written two outstanding (2013-2015) reviews for Dave but recent experiences with him SUCK. I referred a friend to him; he sold her a MacBook which died within six months. I took my ASUS laptop to him recently for a virus. He quoted me $180. I ended up with no virus, a missing SD card, its space covered up with electrical tape (WHY, Dave?) My laptop now has Win 11, it is slow, can't connect to printer. I gave him $140 and explained my disappointment. I got the computer home and saw the missing card, and actually tried to use the machine rather than test it in my car (which is what you get to do with Dave, you meet him IN THE STREET). I reached out to Dave, who refused to help and said not to contact him anymore. I have been steadfast and loyal since 2013. Thanks, Dave (not...). Too slow to stream Netflix. Can't update Windows and all my documents are gone (my own fault for not keeping the bitlocker key, apparently). I am completely stunned by David's condescending attitude and lack of business etiquette. I had high exceptions after reading the 5 star reviews however,he chose not to follow through with fixing my laptop due to "miscommunication". My husband initiated the call to fix our laptop. Initially, he was very professional however, my husband deployed, and I took over communication as David was trying to communicate via SMS and email with my husband. I did not know that he had installed a hard drive into our laptop for us to test and give back to him, when David told me that we have his property, I apologized many times and returned immediately. The hinges on my Dell Latitude were shot, and I did a web search for a local San Diego repair business. Picked up the phone and called the Laptop Fixer (a.k.a. David). His M.O. of meeting outside his PB apartment to drop off the computer was some cause for concern, but Yelp reviews were excellent, so I decided to take a chance. Obviously a storefront would be preferable, but then his prices would undoubtedly be higher. The Set-up: The victim (My ASUS G53sx) experienced blunt force trauma to the DC power-jack region of the torso. The victim is in critical condition, and requires immediate technical assistance. My Problem: All of a sudden, my laptop became slow and it could not connect to the internet browser. I was panicking because I'm not my finals at UCSD. David is an honest, straight forward problem-solver (read:engineer). I was having issues loosening some factory-sealed screws on my motherboard so that I could install an mSATA ssd. The screws were beginning to get stripped and it arrived to the point that pressing further might've endangered future solutions. Seeing as it was 5pm Sunday, I was slowly beginning to accept that I may have to put off this eagerly anticipated expansion for another day if I wanted to seek assistance, because most shops had closed up for the day. Thankfully, David not only promptly answered my call, he also talked over possible solutions; what he could realistically do for me, and was able to see me immediately. We met in front on his place on the street, he got a better look at the problem, explained what he was going to do, and then took 5 minutes in his apartment to complete the job. My little laptop finally keeled over & died. Or so I thought ! My charger port shorted out and was no longer working so I asked my best friend, Google, for help. Before I met David, I had emailed him and asked if he thought it was worth it to update my laptop. He provided me with my options and recommended a few things. At first I was interested in upgrading both the hard drive and the processor, but he informed me that first I should upgrade the hard drive and, if needed, go ahead and upgrade the processor later. Solid state hard drives are still pricey these days, but David was able to find me a deal online. Nobody I have done business with before has ever let me know where I can find a deal on a product, so I was very impressed. like many others i found David using yelp. I would say hes the unsung hero of laptop repair. I found David right after i dropped my laptop off to get repaired. Wish i would have waited So I originally took my laptop to "laptop plus" although they are friendly there (and im sure they do good work) it took them 4 days to let me know what was wrong (windows was corrupted) they said they could restore windows but all the files would be wiped clean (i could have done that myself) because of the way my Laptop was set up. So i emailed David and got a response literally within 10-15 Min's. We chatted and i dropped my laptop off at 630 pm. Chatted for 5 Min's and i was on my way, was updated 1 hour later with progress. THANK YOU DAVID! On the same day my laptop and phone crashed! After contemplating suicide, I found David on yelp, who lives about 5 minutes away from me, and asked him to help me out. He took my computer right away (a laptop) and within the hour called me to tell me he had diagnosed the problem. And the best news is he had been able to save all my files and restore my computer back to working order. After the initial problem, he went above and beyond to seek resolutions to other issues he discovered with my computer and now that I have the laptop back it is working like brand new. After my dad took my laptop to another computer guy to fix the charging port/jack, something had happened! It wouldn't connect to any wireless networks! I just knew that something must have happened when the guy fixed it. However, I waited to long to go back to the guy so he said he would charge me extra (for something he did!). David did an exceptional job with my laptop. He kept me updated as he took apart my laptop via MMS photos, gave very insightful and honest advice, charged an unbeatable price, and immediately corrected an overheating problem that resulted from his service at No cost. I don't know how he is so knowledgeable with all kinds of laptops and their builds, but now my laptop runs better than when I bought it. At a first glance, his method of curbside pickup is unorthodox. But talking to David and reading his raving reviews assured me that this computer craftsman simply wanted his privacy and property laws respected. Taking a leap of faith, I handed him my dear old friend, which, after years of abuse has now become an incessantly crashing piece of plastic crap, needed a new charging port. Within 20 minutes, I received an MMS from David informing me how when I carelessly dropped my laptop, I bent the charging pin and left an exposed wire to fry the whole port. Easy fix for him. A few minutes later, I received a picture showing my disgustingly clogged heat sink. No wonder my computer was crashing so much! David fixed this as well and kept in touch with me so when my laptop encountered a problem with the fan after I picked it up, he was ready to take it apart once again. This time when he had my laptop, not only did he fix the fan and protectively coat my processor and GPU, he installed heat monitoring program, monitored my HDD health, and cleaned up my computer. I came to him about 4 years ago to get my laptop completely wiped and restored and he did such a fantastic job that when my laptop starting acting up again I had to contact him again because I trust him with my computer and I trust him to do a great job. This guy is the man. In a period of hustlers and overpriced Geek Squads, it's good to know there's an honest craftsman out there with a passion for his work. It was so easy. I emailed him my problem with the hinge on my laptop, he emailed me back 18 minutes later asking a few questions. He gave me a very low and reasonable estimate, at least half of what other places charge as their minimum/consulting fee. I texted him the next day showed up at his place, he came out for curbside pickup, I drove to get some Pho and he called me 20 minutes later with his diagnosis of the problem. The problem was something that would be a complicated fix because I bought a $400 janky Asus laptop from Walmart and they built it crappy. I had the occasion to once again call upon David from Laptop Fixer, this time to solve my issue with my laptop. It was running hot and shutting itself off without warning, even though I always keep it on a cooling pad. David worked for over an hour trying to completely clean out the laptop (I discovered that compressed air bottles do not clean laptops out sufficiently). He also ran several of his own anti-virus scans, and despite the fact that my existing anti-virus software never found any issues, his scans found many hidden issues that had to be corrected. He advised on a proper tool for cleaning out computers, and after removing my ineffective anti-virus program, loaded a new one that not only cleaned out all the malware and other viruses, but gave the laptop a new life. I have used David's services many times now. Each time I was pleased by his quick, efficient work and his reasonable pricing. I first met David when I purchased a used laptop from him. There was no question as to the function and value after trying the laptop out using the wireless network at the local PB library. He carefully explained that he rehabs used computers by removing everything off the hard disk, reformatting and installing all new software. He makes sure all the basics are included: Windows OS; Windows Office; wireless drivers; IE browser; Adobe Reader; even a DVD player application. I have a second laptop that has need a few fixes; one that I thought might have been costly as the power switch stop functioning. Thank you David!! A truly satisfied customer right here! What happened was my computers power supply got disconnected without my battery on at the time I was starting up my Windows. This lead to corrupting a Windows file. After multiple troubleshooting I found out it had a blue screen error saying something like this stop x0000: UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME Now I could've tried to fix it my self after seeing Youtube videos on how to fix the problem, but I just couldnt risk losing any files cuz my laptop had my life in it Thanks to Yelp I was able to find some1 who is affordable, reliable, and fast.
