I ordered delivery from here and thought the portions were really good. The only thing I'd warn people about is the spice level. I usually order medium spice everywhere, but the medium here was way spicier than expected, to the point where it was hard to enjoy after a few bites. My dad loves this place. It's inside new world mall food court and we order this at least 1-2x a month, eating there or for take out. It is always busy and there has a line but that only means it's delicious! They have a bunch of variety of meats and veggies, from fatty beef, chicken, quail eggs, fish, etc, to broccoli, wood ear mushrooms, lettuce, etc and mix it all together in a big wok. You can pick your spice level (I usually cannot handle spice even though I love it so I get "very little spice" and they're able to do that for me!) Came here for mala Xiang Guo (dry pot) and got their custom beef bowl instead of building my own. It was $15 which is about average and definitely affordable. Portion size was average and can feed two people. The staffs were super nice but flavor was lacking a bit. Something felt missing but overall a pretty good deal for the portion and price. read more

Pretty good dry hot pot! I have only ever had it at other food courts and I will say this one was probably my favorite. Good amount of spice and extremely savory. What a rush!!!! But you have to understand the concept of a Malatang in order to play this game. * * * LaoMa Mala Tang is one of three Mala Tang restaurants in the food court of the New World Mall in Flushing's Chinatown. The food court in the New World Mall is a great great gastronomic destination. If you are in New York, you should just take the Number 7 Subway, go to the end of the line at Flushing Main, and have one of the food experiences of your life. They have 27 different Asian foodstalls in that food court, not as many places as the legendary Box Hill Food Court in Melbourne, but way way more than you get at a typical HMart. They all looked pretty fantastic - and there are a lot of exotic options. (Dying for Uighur food? They got it.) I can't tell you if LaoMa is the best or the worst Malatang restaurant in that food court. But what I had was pretty damm good. * * * Malatang is Szechuan Food meets Mongolian Grill. The front of the stall has a vast array of ingredients. Maybe 10 percent are vegetables. The rest are meats and seafood. They have every part of the animal you can possibly imagine. The first ingredient I started with was pig ear and I went on from there. You fill up a bowl with whatever mix of ingredients you want to go with. Note: This is like comida por quilo in Brazil. You are paying by the weight. Meat is heavier than vegetables, which is why they are eager to sell you meat. Their display has about forty items on it, and you should not be at all shy about taking 25. After they fill your basket and you pay, they will take your ingredients and stir-braise them for about three minutes. Stir-braise. Not stir-fry. And that is super-important. What your food is being cooked with is hot szechuan pepper stock. They have four kinds of stock in the kitchen: No peppers, a little pepper, plenty of pepper, and wow-wow-wow-we-are-going-to-burn-our-way-through-your-esophagus pepper. I had plenty of pepper - which had a lot of kick but avoided triggering pathological levels of endorphins. They give you your bowl of stir-braised pepper foods and a box of rice. Chinese put the spicy meat on top of the rice and eat it one bite at a time. Samuel C. just dumped all the rice in his bowl and went for the whole thing. * * * Either way, it is one taste sensation after another. This is a dish I could totally become addicted to. I have no doubt that different establishments have different pepper mixes ... That different establishments have different mixes of raw ingredients ... Made our own hot pot combo. The meat was delicious and in great quantity. Was a little pricy at $30 but an excellent amount of food, easily 3-4 meals. Good variety of options. Thanks to Yelp friend Henry M. for clarifying the location and description of this place. I've considered getting food here a few times when I've been inside of the Golden Dungeon but usually opted for Xian and Tian Jin dumplings in the past. Came here a few weekends ago to try the Malatang. The place is towards the back of the lower level of the Golden Dungeon and I was brought to the more spacious and air conditioned eating area in the back when my food came out, which was appreciated. I got the beef version ($8) with medium level spiciness. It looked really good and the experience started out great. The noodles had a nice texture because I ate them first before they got soggy in the broth. The broth was ultra spicy but had good flavor when I sipped on spoonfuls of it. I definitely went through like the whole pile of napkins for my cleared sinuses. The experience started to sour though as I kept eating. I don't have the best spicy tolerance and the spice level became overwhelming to the point where it wasn't enjoyable anymore. The beef was tough and overcooked. And there weren't that many items in the bowl that were that great besides the wood ear mushrooms and tofu. I ended up throwing a good portion of it out. I think most people would probably enjoy the Malatang more than I did but I don't feel the need to get it again. I think $8 is a decently fair price for the amount of food you get. Just didn't float my boat. I'll stick to the Lan Zhou noodles, Tian Jin dumpling, and Lamb Noodle Soup places for the time being. This place should not be missed if you're in the food court of the mall! Their options of meat and seafood are all fresh and delicious. My favorite is the chicken wings, which are so crispy even after getting tossed and are so flavorful. The spicy levels are accurate but the most spicy level just means more sichuan which I think isn't spicy, just annoying that you can't taste your food because of that numbing sensation. There are multiple listings for this place on Yelp and there is confusion amongst the reviewers which has resulted in photos and reviews from the various locations jumbling together. This is the original location inside Golden Shopping Mall. It's in the underground section near the back and faces the rear side of the dumpling place. This location is different from their mall location in that there is no dry hot pot here. They serve malatang, or numbing spicy hot pot. Instead of getting a boiling pot where you cook the stuff yourself, you order a bowl that comes with your choice of protein and an assortment of stuff that normally comes with hot pot. You have a choice of levels of spiciness. Be warned that even mild is quite spicy. I go for medium and, by the time I'm finished, I'm sweating and have gone through at least 10 napkins for my runny nose. It's such a satisfying spiciness. I went with the beef hot pot, which is $8. It came with a heaping portion of beef that was sliced thin and was very tender. I love the beef version because the cooked beef has a large surface area and lots of crevices which pick up some of that delicious spicy broth. This is one of those dishes where the farther down you get, the more you find. There's sliced potato, lotus root, cabbage, bok choy, bean sprouts, tofu, and rice cakes in addition to a large serving of potato noodles. It's definitely filling for lunch. I often think about ordering a side of rice (I don't know if they serve rice, but I assume they do) so I can eat it with the spicy items and maybe dump some into the dish to soften and soak up the broth, but I always end up being worried I'll be too full. There are lots of versions of this dish in Flushing. LaoMa is the original and the best. And you should come here to get the full experience instead of eating it in a sterile food court like New World Mall. read more

My sister and I were looking for Lamb Noodle Soup but we couldn't find it, so we decided to check out Golden Mall. We hoped to find the thick, flat Chinese noodles that we were craving here, but it was really hard to search for in such a small and cramped space. The mall was super ghetto and extremely hot, so we were pretty disgusted and on top of that, sweating like pigs. Just when we were about to leave, this Chinese lady approached us and asked us what we wanted to order in Chinese. With the minimal Chinese language knowledge that we had, we managed to tell her that we were Korean. However, she was able to speak Korean as well! The lady kept asking us what we wanted and led us to order food. As nice and unassertive Asian girls, we followed her and decided to order. We specifically told her that we wanted flat noodles, but we already knew they didn't have it on the menu (yet she insisted that they did in order to make us stay). Just as we were about to pay, we saw that they only accept cash, so we took our chance and told her we only have card. She told us there was an ATM outside, so we told her brb but in reality it was good bye!!! Honestly, this mall isn't that terrible but because we're so used to nice, spacious, AC'ed restaurants, this place disappointed us.
