Lan Ramen is my favorite Chinese restaurant near Nassau street. Unlike other Chinese restaurants, Lan Ramen is designed in a fashionable style, which makes every visit an enjoyable experience. Also, I really like the Lanzhou Braised Beef Noodle. To be honest, this is quite different from what I had in China. However, I think this version is even better than the original one. This is a solid restaurant and a very nice environment, making a fine addition to Princeton with fresh food, if not amazing. The best dish we had was the Ginger & Scallion noodles, though it was quite oily. The actual ramen noodles have great texture and taste. The beef ramen soup (Lazhou beef noodles) is fine. Our waiter steered us toward the celtuce, which was mediocre - bland though had a lot of sauce. Also mediocre was the eggplant fries dish, which is actually eggplant tempura that was very bland accompanied by a hoisin type dipping sauce that was very sweet and uninteresting. And we had the cucumber appetizer which was heavy on the sesame oil so the flavors lacked balance (they didn't have that acidic tang you look for in that dish). The food was absolutely wonderful, from preparation to presentation. I especially enjoyed the baby lamb chops an amazIng blend of flavors. The wonderful food and atmosphere made my buddy and I come back 3 nights in a row to eat dinner. Overall EATING AT LAN RAMEN IS A MUST, from the quality food to the genuine service that the restaurant staff presents gives this place a 6 star rating if I could give it a extra star. Lan Ramen is amazing - once you know what dishes are worth it. I *highly* recommend their soup dumplings; I think it's the best dish they serve. I often get the Lanzhou braised beef noodles when I go for dinner. I've tried various other appetizers and entrees and found some are meh, while others are really truly tasty! It's worth going and trying a bunch of different things to find out which dishes really speak to you. Definitely get the soup dumplings!!!! read more

A nice Chinese restaurant in a modern setting near campus. The hand-made noodle is exceptional. We tried the one with thinly sliced beef and Daikon. The flavor is great with enough spiciness. Taiwanese Pork Chip is crispy and flavorful, but hope they add a bit more with side than just steamed broccoli. Two appetizers we ordered: Guyzi and scallion pancake roll with beef are both good, but I wish the portion could be a bit bigger. read more

Had to wait for a long time to get the waiter's attention to order and another long wait to get my check. Ordered Lanzhou Ramen and was told they didn't have it yet. I loved this place. My family brought me here for Father's day and we ordered the shrimp and beef buns which were spectacular. The shrimp has a spicy sauce and it's tempura battered and the beef was sliced with a hoisan sauce. For dinner I had the hand pulled noddles in the spicy beef broth and my wife had the spicy lamb dish with wide hand pulled noddles. The service was excellent and I plan on returning. read more

Amazing! I come here all the time. The soup dumplings are phenomenal, so is the cucumber dish. The service is great and the food always comes very fast. You can see the cook making the noodles behind the counter too. One recommendation is that they buy little spoons for the soy sauce for soup dumplings and spicy hot chili sauce for the dumplings too. read more

I wondered into this gem last night on a hunt for comfort and I was not disappointed. The atmosphere is warm and intimate. I sat at the counter where I was completely captivated watching the man in the kitchen hand pull the noodles, adds a great homey aesthetic. The ramen was delicious, the beef was so tender it melted in my mouth, and I don't even have words for the noodles, just wow. Reasonably priced, delicious ramen and great atmosphere. This is almost the best Lanzhou beef noodle I have ever had in the U.S.. The common beef ramen is very similar to beef noddle I ate when I was travelling in Lanzhou. The big plate chicken is also tasty. read more

Authentic Chinese style hand pulled noodles. I think the noodles are pretty legit in the sense that taste like what I had in China. A bit pricey tho. The beef noodle is 14ish and the serving isn't large. I went there for lunch on a weekday. read more

I dine at Lan frequently--they offer a great variety of delicious Chinese dishes in a chic, casual atmosphere. The service is always wonderful. We love their soup dumplings and their noodle dishes, although I would also recommend the sweet and sour whole fish and the Lanzhou Lamb Stew (get the wide noodles with it, they are so worth it). I am looking forward to working my way through the whole menu! read more

The food at Lan Ramen is excellent. Noodles are fresh and the broth delectable. The rock shrimp was very good. My son and I sat at the counter around 5:30 on a Friday night, and it was soon filled with patrons. That said, there are a number changes that I would recommend to the restauranteur: 1. You have valuable counter space, don't use it as a place for a horizontal file for menus. It is also disruptive to the patrons sitting at the counter when the servers come back and forth getting menus and dishes from the kitchen directly over the counter. 2. The menu should be in binders - that way, you always keep the two sheets straight and do not need to waste time fumbling and trying to make sure you have the right set of sheets of menu. 3. The female server needs to trim her nails. She has beautiful, long nails that are very nicely decorated. However, it is simply unhygienic and somewhat revolting to see her thumb nail dipping into my bowl of noodles when placing it before me. I had to consciously fight my gag reflex - not a feeling I really want in a restaurant. 4. The servers need to keep an eye on when the food is ready to be picked up. Since they are just sitting on the counter in plain view, I do not understand why it would require my asking our server, after seeing the dishes sitting on there for 10-15 minutes (the servers going back and forth the entire time), whether those dishes are ours. They were. Both times. 5. We asked for water and the male server, in his hurry to pour, dumped water on the counter in front of my son, forming a big puddle. He then silently pushed my son's bowl out of the way, took out a rag to wipe the counter, and walked away. No attempt to put the bowl and other implements back the way it was. The saving grace was that the counter was level and no water spilled down to my son's lap. Edit: my son reminded me that the server did apologize. I guess I just didn't hear him. Overall, the food is great, but the process and the servers need a lot more training. read more

The only issue is that the service is a bit slow. It takes time to order and get the check but once you order, the food comes quickly. Friendly staff there. The chef behind the counter in the open kirchen makes the noodles by hand which is theatre to watch. Ambience is understated and cool. Waitstaff know their stuff and service is prompt. I had lunch there yesterday. I ordered the beef Ramen and the crispy spicy chicken. I have to say this is the best Ramen I have ever had. The soup is VERY tasty very concentrated and there is not one drop of grease. How a restaurant could make the food so clean I don't know but the chefs much have a high standard in preparing it. Once I had the first bite of the crispy spicy chicken, I was sold!! I almost couldn't believe how tasty and how tender the chicken is!!! It has a fried shell but inside is the tender chicken marinated with just the right sauce. Crunchy, tender and delicious. I highly recommend everyone to try it. Once again, I could not believe a restaurant could make such fine quality food. It should be something from a formal banquet. I liked the both so much that I ordered them for take out. Last night I had the beef ramen again (the chef has separated ramen and soup in 2 containers so it is just like new). The Raman tasted even better. Delicious, authentic Chinese food. The owner was upfront about the noodle chef not being there until mid-February, so instead of ordering the noodles we got the lamb chops, rock shrimp, sweet and sour crispy fish, and gyoza. It was amazing. I haven't had sweet and sour crispy fish since I was in China 10 years ago and this might have been better. It tasted really fresh, like the sauce was great but didn't cover the taste of the fish itself. Will definitely come back, with a large enough group so we can order noodles and these nostalgia dishes to share. read more

First time here was ok. Food was good and we wanted to come back when the noodle chef was already here. So we came back a 2nd time but did not stay. Server was pretty rude. No one was seating us so the noodle chef suggested we take the nearest table. Rude server came rushing to tell us no we cannot take the table because it was reserved and waved us to take any table we liked. We picked one and double checked to make sure that it was ok. We were inly 3 and it was a table for 6. Again while he told us it was fine since they weren't in a rush. the tone was again very dismissive. So we took the table and five minutes later, we walked out. No one came to even hand us a menu, acknowledge us or even bring water. So while it would have been fun to watch the noodle chef and try the food again, we are not coming back. Go to sakura express instead for japanese food. The owner is very welcoming, none of the staff are rude and best of all the food is great! read more

I've lived in Princeton for almost 15 Years now and this is by FAR - THE BEST - Chinese place Princeton has had in that time. I ordered the Sesame Chicken , Fried rice and the Beef noodles. I started with the Beef Noodles and WOW - THE BROTH - is something you won't find somewhere else along with the excellent handmade noodles. I have to say this surprised me as I ordered it off a recommendation and normally wouldn't and now I'm HOOKED on their Beef Noodles. The Sesame Chicken is delicious and tender while not overpowering nor processed-tasting and it was a killer pairing with their fried rice which was the healthiest tasting fried rice I've ever had. Everything was cooked to perfection and the service, Djalenta in particular, was outstanding to go along with an elegant atmosphere and interior. This is a MUST for anyone in town or if you just love food in general. You'll truly be missing out on something special!! read more
