I have been eating here for years, when it was just bare bones and a counter attached to a great Thai market. Always delish, but, WOW, it has just gotten better and better. The flavors are deep and the herbs and spices are just right. Bright and fresh. I really have tried every Thai place around...Lamoon is the BEST. From the Tod Mun Pla with ribbons of herbs and cucumber sauce, perfect veggie Green Curry with a bite to all the veg. And my fav, Ka Prow Gai Kai is the ultimate comfort food. The restaurant was deserted. Me and my husband were the only people in the restaurant for at least 30 to 45 minutes. One other person came in, was served and left. We were alone again. The waitress took our drink orders, canned sodas, which took me by surprise. We ordered appetizers, spring rolls, which were flavorless. My husband ordered the Pad See-Ew, wide fried rice noodles with Chinese broccoli and chicken. The noodles and chicken were charred/blackened. I'm sure this was not intentional. The noodles and chicken tasted burnt. My husband's meal was served at least 5 minutes before my meal. I ordered the drunken noodles, wide rice noodles in a tangy sauce with chicken, onion, tomatoes, green and red peppers. The dish had a good flavor, spicy the way I like it. My only issue, the noodles were dripping with oil. Unfortunately, I wasn't too impressed with the food. The price was very reasonable. The food was just okay. My first time coming here and I was delightfully surprised! It doesn't look like much from the outside (especially with all the construction going on) but the food was amazing and tasted very authentic. We got the Goong Nang Fah- which wasn't anything too special but still good- and the Pad Thai, Panang Curry, and Num Kon Noodle Soup. My favorite by far was the Panang Curry as it wasn't over-the-top spicy as some restaurants make it. Definitely will be back! read more

My husband and I have been regular Take-Out Customers at Lamoon Thai in Silver Spring for years. The food is generally good. One of the draws has been they have a lunch special M-F where you can choose from the pre-made dishes a 1, 2 or 3 item plate to stay or go for a $8, $9 or $10 plus tax. The lunch special ends at 3pm, and today I arrived about 2:35pm and they were pretty much low on food. My husband and I both wanted 3 item plates for $10, but one of the dishes was tofu (which only I will eat) and another was very low it was barely there, and then two others. I commented that the item that was barely there was not enough for a portion, that if I got what was left for my husband could they supplement it with a little more from one of the other selections I would get for him. The fellow behind the counter said "NO, there is enough for an order." (there was NOT) and then he said, "If you don't want it, don't get it." Talk about a BAD ATTITUDE! The place was empty and the lunch special was ending in a few minutes anyway, yet the fellow was simply unaccommodating and would have had no qualms with pushing off a 1/2 order as whole. That didn't set right with me whether I was a regular customer or not. Now I'd never seen this fellow before. Maybe he was new? Maybe he worked in the back? He certainly needed customer service training. Truth is there are MANY good restaurants in Silver Spring, including many good Thai restaurants. I think moving forward I will take my regular business elsewhere. Clearly Lamoon Thai doesn't need it. read more

I recently just moved to the area and I was looking for a new Thai restaurant, decided to try this place on a hunch. Boy, was I glad I choose this place I ordered the drunken noodle beef and an order of the summer rolls, my girlfriend ordered the Kao soi and the pork skewer. Definitely one of the best drunken noodles I have ever had, right amount of spice and sweetness, the beef was cooked to perfection. The kao soi, which is a creamy pasta with chicken leg was also great. Definitely found my new Thai restaurant here in silver spring. read more

I've eaten here twice. Both times I ordered the Tom Yum soup and was in LOVE. It's the perfect amount of sour vs. spicy and the shrimp are plentiful and delicious. For entrees, I've had the fried rice with chicken and shrimp, and the fried tilapia. The fried rice was ok, nothing spectacular. The tilapia was my choice because the soft shell crab was not available. The presentation of the tilapia was awful. It was served in small strips, and each piece was so light and barely had any fish inside. The basil sauce I poured over top was the only redeeming factor for that dish. I have also had the mango & sticky rice which is not quite in season - but even considering that, it was a little below average in taste and quality, in my opinion. read more

I order chicken fried rice from this place all the time because it's so good and great value (I can eat it for 2 meals). But sometimes I'm more hungry and order the crispy spring rolls too. Until the November 15th, when I ordered and the spring rolls were barely fried/cooked and tasted awful. I don't know if they changed the recipe entirely or just took them out too early but $5.50 is way too much money to waste on me throwing out food. If this was the first time I ordered it, I wouldn't have said anything about it. I would've just never ordered it again. Walked in to the restaurant while looking for a spot to eat in Silver Spring. I took it as a positive sign that everyone eating in the restaurant was Thai. I ordered the Tom Ka soup, and Yellow Curry with Chicken. The Tom Ka was delicious and savory but what truly blew me away was the curry! It's so hard to find good plain curry minus the addition of weird things like eggplant, raisins and pineapple. Totally will eat here again! read more

It is a fast-casual hole-in-the-wall with modest decor but AWESOME, FRESH, AUTHENTIC FOOD with a solid number of different offerings. I've been here a couple times in recent weeks and have been so pleased with everything I've tried. Neighbors trying this place are posting the same on our neighborhood listserv. I'm going to go ahead and give this place all 5 stars. Five stars in my book, because in the 7 years since I moved from my home on the west cost to the east coast, I have not had Thai food this good for a reasonable price. For that, I do not care one iota about the simple tables lack of decoration on the wall -- they are a growing business, as it is. Eat in, take away, or grab-n-go. Thanks to Groupon, Lamoon Thai was my destination for lunch yesterday with a friend. We both were very pleased with our meals - and dismayed to see few other patrons in the restaurant - so I wanted to share our thoroughly positive experience. We both chose the lunch special, which includes soup or another appetizer, main course, and a beverage (soda, or Thai iced tea or coffee) - all for $12. I greatly enjoyed each element of my meal - the main course (pad thai with tofu) and the soup (tom yum chicken) were vividly flavored, and the Thai iced tea was creamy, refreshing, and invigorating (i.e., well-caffeinated!). Further, the portions were quite generous - I brought half the pad thai home - and the server was highly attentive and pleasant. I'll definitely visit again! read more

I used to go to the old Thai Food market. This place is great! Real authentic Thai food for a great price.

A simple restaurant from the outside, but a solid Thai menu. Pork, chicken or beef can be added to most dishes. Lamoon also offers vegetarian food. We went on a Monday night and even than was well attended. The wine by the glass was not much of great value, but there were beers and teas. The food was delicious and offered just the right amount of spiciness. Obviously, the kitchen staff knows what they are doing. The waitstaff was competent and knowledgeable about the dishes. Lamoon is definitely worth a visit and offers good value. read more

Most authentic Thai food I've had in Montgomery County! My go-to is their panang curry with rice. Their portions are great for the price, and their staff is always very friendly and accommodating. I'm always willing to make the drive to Silver Spring for their food! read more

The restaurant is very deceiving from the outside but once you enter it's actually quite nice. I was a little disappointed in my chicken pad Thai they used dark meat and it almost had a green hue to it so I actually picked out all the chicken and just ate the noodles. Would be willing to try the restaurant again and just order something different. read more

Great Thai food. Tried it out because I live in the area and I'm sure I'll be stopping by again to pick up hot, fast, fresh, and affordable dinners. I ordered the pad see ew with pork, basil duck, and eggplant. The pad see ew noodles were tender and didn't stick together which showed how fresh they were. The pork was marinated well, not tough at all, and tasted great. The eggs weren't rubbery at all and overall the dish wasn't too sweet as pad see ew can sometimes be! The eggplant and duck dishes were both great. Both had a hint of spice that wasn't overpowering for someone like me who's bad with spicy food. The food comes out super fast and tastes authentic. We love Thai food and have literally eaten at every Thai restaurant in Silver Spring, Wheaton and many others locally. We do not say this lightly but we have a new favorite. This was easily the best Thai food we have had in the area. That being said, they are new and working out the kinks. It took a while for the food to arrive and every one of our three meals showed up separately. There was only one server while we were there and she was doing her best to keep up. We look forward to coming back often to watch the progression of the new restaurant. The kinks did not phase us at all especially once the food started coming as it was all beyond amazing. We ate some classic meals to get a gauge of the restaurant and look forward to trying many more. read more

I ordered delivery from Lamoon Thai a few days ago. I was really craving Thai, and decided to be a little adventurous and try something other than my usual Thai go-to spot in downtown Silver Spring, Amina Thai. I love Thai noodle dishes and am always looking for great Pad Thai and Pad Kee Mao dishes. I ended up ordering the Pad Thai and the papaya salad with crab meat. When I got my meal, I was a bit underwhelmed by the food. The Pad Thai, which is usually very flavorful, was pretty mediocre. The papaya salad, was also very mediocre. I also didn't notice any difference from what I usually get and this version which was supposed to include crab meat (maybe they forgot to include it?). The reviews are pretty solid for this place, and people seem to like the noodle soup dishes, so maybe I just ordered wrong and need to get what they are known for. Overall, I give it 3 stars - it wasn't awful, but definitely not anything amazing. If I ever order the noodle soup dishes, I'll be sure to report back if the experience is any better. read more
