I have been ordering from this place for the last two years; over this time I considered all of the management switches, employee turnover, and decline in food quality to be part of this rollove. However, even when talking with management they have no understanding of how bad it is. This place is on a rapid decline and I would think twice before ordering here. Mushy shrimp, sour soup favors, half filled containers, and overall bad attitudes. There are better places with better service. I ordered delivery through Uber Eats. The food came earlier than quoted, and that was the only plus. I ordered calamari as an appetizer and the Drunken Noodles as my entree. Normally when I order Drunken Noodles and other noodle dishes from a Thai restaurant, they ask you to select your level of spice (mild, medium, spicy). I did not get any option which I thought was odd. But I went through with my order anyway. My food arrived. I opened the calamari, and last time I checked, calamari come in ring shapes. Whatever this was were straight lines, no rings. I have no idea what this substance was that they tried to pass off as calamari, but I didn't even attempt to eat it. I took the breading off just to make sure and it was clear this wasn't calamari. I hoped that my drunken noodles would make up for this disappointment. Nope. From the first bite of my noodles, my mouth was on FIRE. I could truly only eat a few bites before I just threw it out. I could literally see all of the pepper seeds in the noodles. It's like they took every pepper in the restaurant and put it in my food. Terrible. No amount of water could help me. I should have taken the fact that they didn't ask how spicy I wanted my food as a sign. My boyfriend had Thai fried rice with chicken. He said it was okay but bland. Luckily, Uber Eats refunded my money since I couldn't eat any of my food. I will never order from this place again. read more

We liked everything we got tonight -- pork dumplings and fried tofu for starters, then papaya salad, green curry with chicken, and basil with chicken. All were fresh and tasty and came as asked with brown rice. Our only quibble is that the spices for a few of these were ultra strong. Next time we'll ask for milder versions. Beware of not specifying because some of them (curry for sure) come very spicy as standard. Otherwise, really great food at good prices. read more

The Pad See Ew and the red curry - both with chicken - were $11 each. Prompt service. Overall good flavor. Cons: My Pad See Ew was a bit on the oily side and there was a very bizarre, generous shake of ground black pepper on the top (see my photo). I've never experienced this before with this dish so was a little surprised and it didn't seem to do the dish any favors. While my husband enjoyed his red curry overall, he felt that the sauce itself was on the weak side (spice level was fine, but the overall flavor of the sauce he found to be a bit watered down). read more

This was a good place to go! We came on a Saturday night and they had good prices for a generous amount of food. Each dish was basically $10 a piece if you get tofu, vegetable, or chicken. We got the pad see eew and the Penang curry. Both were very good especially for the price. The lay out was alittle weird but very open. It has more of a traditional Thai feeling in the restaurant. It was also a family run restaurant since there kids were assisting in serving us, they were quite young though. If you go, check in and you get 10% off! The only downside is the location. It was near a construction area and kind of hard to find. At first I couldn't find it and thought the area was quite sketchy. Overall, would recommend and would go again! read more

Quality has gone down and prices have gone up. I have been coming here for a few years and the last time I went, the pad thai was noticeably lower quality and not very fresh looking or tasting. The chicken was tough to chew and the noodles were overcooked and drenched in some red/orange sauce that looked like spaghetti sauce. The noodles looked like something cooked the day before and saved for the next day. That's just how I feel. I felt that the food was not cooked fresh the way it is supposed to be. Lamoon Thai is the new Thai Market. What was once a simple carry out counter is now a simple fast casual restaurant. The aisles of curry paste and rice have been replaced with tables and chairs. The walls are now a deep grey, and the space is obviously still in transition. The good news is that the food has stayed delicious. The original counter still exists, but it has been moved into a newly painted space in what was the actual Thai Market. The steam table is filled with ready made food, and the restaurant also offers a menu of foods that can be made to order. All of the standards are here, and I have no doubt that they are good. I'll be completely honest here and tell you that Thai Market had my favorite Thai food in Silver Spring, so I was overjoyed to see that their carry out would continue to exist. The food is not what one might expect to find at a restaurant, and a quick conversation will reveal that they offer homestyle meals more often than not. Basil Chicken is my absolute favorite dish here, and it has a permanent spot at the counter, so I know I'm not alone. We were quite happy with the papaya salad from the menu, and can't wait to try more from the kitchen, as we know that this will be a regular stop for us once again. I've left them a star to grow into, as the restaurant is still changing. Lamoon Thai only seems like a new spot in the Silver Spring Thai restaurant offerings. In reality, though, the offerings in this spare space is simply a new presentation for a tried and true menu. Five star potential!!! I know, I Gabe them four stars, but that's because they are currently transforming themselves and I want to see what the butterfly looks like before I give them that fifth star. Lamoon Thai has been a favorite of mine since the mid-90's. They started out as a takeout counter in the old (at first new) Thai Market at their current location. Running in and grabbing a quick Thai Basil Chicken to go (or eating in at one of the few tables) was always one of the highlights of whatever day it was. Now, the market is gone, which to this long time fan was heartbreaking. WAIT!!! The take out counter is staying? It's going to be it's own restaurant!?!?! YAY!!! Okay, back to the present. The menu has been increased. New tables and chairs. Tasteful, yet modest decorations around the section that has been remodeled. Everything is coming along well. Plus, they kept all of the stellar flavors that originally made me a fan. They still have a hot bar for those few items people want to be able to grab and go in under 5 minutes, and they have added a lot more. This is one gem that I hope Silver Spring cherishes for a long time to come. read more

I hate to do this but their quality has dropped. I speak solely on their panang curry dish. I am a big fan of consistency and just last year i couldnt get enough of this place. My favorite thai place in Silver Spring, tucked away on Thayer Ave. It really was a gem. I think they changed chef because whoever they had previously had this recipe spot on every time. A thick curry well balanced heat of the curry spices, creamy sweetness from the coconut milk, texture of the peanuts, acid and tang of the lime and the perfect herbal explosion of the kaffir lime leaf. I was that into it. Whatever i got recently could hardly coat my spoon ie. Too watery. There is a lot more on their menu that is decent but im uninspired to try those again in fear of being disappointed. read more

I'm from Texas and I'm staying in the area without a vehicle. I was pleased to locate an authentic Thai restaurant within walking distance. I ordered the spring rolls which were served in an adorable, metal basket with a delicious sweet sauce on the side. For my entree I ordered the Pad Thai with chicken and wow the portion was generous. The chicken was tender and not dry at all making each bite crave-able. Nothing more annoying than inedible chicken pieces, bleh! The entree itself wasn't over sauced or seasoned, which I enjoy. I had enough food to save for another round, this makes my wallet happy! The serving temperature for both items were hot and clearly made fresh to order. It was very oily and I waited about 20 minutes for my order with no one else in the restaurant. My rice looked and tasted like oily white rice. I decided to give it another try, and ordered the lunch special which is food that is already cooked at the front, and you can order one or two entrees with white rice. I tried the panang curry, which is a favorite of mine. Not bad! Though the color and texture of the chicken was a little off - maybe it was chicken thighs? I don't know. But it was pretty good, along with their spring rolls. I am open to trying additional items on the menu, but only because it's super close to my job. She said no and looked a bit annoyed after I asked for them. I mean seriously. Initially I had a little trouble finding this place because of all the construction in the nearby area. But, if you are near the Safeway, you're almost there! I ate here at about 4pm on a weekday. The place was completely empty except for a few people at the take-out counter. There is a hot bar that you can order take-out from. However, if you're dining in you are free to sit anywhere and the server will make their way over to bring you a menu. There was only one woman working the whole front of the house. She was helpful and very friendly. I was between the chicken Pad Thai and the Green Curry (a difficult decision, I know). As per the suggestion of the waitress, I went with the green curry. She assured me that it would not be too spicy, and the spice level was just right! Not too spicy, but enough that you knew that it was meant to be a spicy dish. It came with rice and there was a lot of lemongrass in the curry which I enjoyed. Also, a lot of chicken. I would order it again. I also ordered the Thai iced tea as per the waitress' suggestion. The Thai iced tea was one of the best I've had. A must-order. Also, very reasonable pricing! A bowl of green curry that comes with rice was only ~$10. My only gripe is that the men's bathroom seemed unfinished. There was some exposed piping, but everything was functioning and it felt clean. Also, the partition between the stalls was so high that for someone shorter than me (5'7"), it might be a little uncomfortable if someone entered the next stall because you feel a little exposed. Amazing diamond in the rough. You may miss it if you drive by too quickly. The prices are some of the best you will find and the food is as perfect as it gets outside of Thailand. We eat Thai often all over the Northside of DC and the MD burbs and this is our new favorite. The larb gai, fried rice and pad thai were a perfect match on a cold night. The resturant is very quiet, not much traffic so be ready to eat alone. The staff are super friendly and very fast. Will be trying everything on the menu as we go but our favorites were a hit. The fried calamari and pad see ew are particularly great, pad see ew is normally pretty flavorless at restaurants around here but their version is saucy and delicious.
