On the second trip for the actual birthday pie, I picked the salted caramel b/c the group is a chocolate crowd. Third time, just wanted pie! Also sampled the cutie pies in the jar... I don't think the mini pie made it home lol. Today (#4 visit) I was craving the raspberry dream and wanted to try the apple pie. My current ranking of pie I've tried is: 1. Raspberry dream, 2. salted caramel, 3. White chocolate raspberry (cutie pie), 4. marionberry (nicely tart, full of berries but a bit dry, went well with ice cream), 5. whiskey peach (too much crust, not enough peach, not very peachy). The shop has some seating but I only saw one group seated once. I always took my pies home to enjoy. There is plenty of street parking (metered, 15 min free), and here is a parking structure around the back of the block (2 hours free).

I never asked for a discount and was happy to pay full price. All I asked was for a smaller scoop. Both times, the shorter male employee looked at me like I was asking for something ridiculous. He acted confused and annoyed over the simplest request. This time was even worse. He scooped ice cream that was already melted around the edges. I politely asked if he could scoop from the part that wasn't melting, and he replied, "Oh, it's buttercream," as if that somehow made it acceptable. Then he did the exact same thing with my daughter's ice cream. The ice cream was already melting before we even walked out the door. What disappointed me even more than the melting ice cream was the attitude. If you don't enjoy serving customers especially families with children maybe customer service isn't the right job for you. I still left a tip. Not because the service deserved it, but because I genuinely felt sorry for your attitude.

We came around noon on Saturday, and thankfully despite their busy brunch rush we were seated immediately. Even though all of their seating is outdoors, tables are shaded by overhanging canopy and just added to the cute southern Italian bistro vibes of the place. The menu had a solid selection of both brunch and lunch items - I loved the Burrata di Campagna, which was flavorful with just the right amount of tart from the heirloom tomatoes. For my main meal I had to go with the Casarecce - one of their pastas that's made fresh in house daily. The braided pasta was wonderfully textured and soaked up all the pesto sauce without being overly oily, a perfect meal for a hot summer day. We finished our meal with a Nutella Croissant, from their artisan bakery that also makes their bread fresh every day. Perhaps I am a little biased, but the laminated dough was perfectly light and flaky, encasing a very generous filling of hazelnut chocolate cream. Our check at the end of the meal even came with a custom drawn postcard by one of the Nonna Mercato service staff - another present to add on to what was already a gift of a meal!

It's shocking to see a restaurant that claims to be part of the community show absolutely no compassion when a family is dealing with an emergency. Charging someone after acknowledging a cancellation under those circumstances is unacceptable. This place clearly lacks the heart and humanity that a neighborhood business should have. I spoke with the restaurant manager Patrick after calling multiple times to speak with someone and he basically said he is not willing to refund the charge because they order food ahead of time. I ordered the Ube Cream coffee and it was harmonious. The coffee's flavor is roasted and paired perfectly synonymously with the ube cream. The cream itself was not too sweet and provided an uplifting, smooth flavor to the coffee. Shop owners were incredibly kind and even double checked that I enjoyed my coffee before leaving. Last time I was here with my friend, I let them know that I've been craving a (BLACK SESAME SEED COFFEE). It's been a while since I had one and it's challenging to find. My friend Arieanna has been here a few times after our initial visit and told me they have what I've requested. It was savory & I highly recommend it. The black sesame gives it an extra boost of flavor that is sweet, roasted, & earthy. I appreciate the owners Thomas & Savery for adding one of my favorites to their menu.
