Came here today for our lil road trip. The wait wasn't that long at all compared to the reviews reported hours for wait. Ok now to the food I had ribeye with bake beans and baked sweet potato. Food was really good and the rolls was nice and hot. I only ate one since I'm watching my carbs but it was delicious. The servers does pass around some sample foods in which we enjoyed the cabbage. It would make sense if the apple butter (for the rolls) was passed around very soon after the rolls, right? I've visited twice and that never happened. Service has been sketch a best both times. I assumed the first time was a fluke, because of all the hype. But on our second visit, my family had to ask a passing staff person when the apple butter was coming around (cause our hot rolls were now cold). We didn't see our main waiter for about 15+ minutes so we said to a person that was passing around okra "hey we'd love to try the apple butter, can you send some out" and they responded very rudely "I don't have it, I just have okra." Okay.... Obviously not what we were asking. This is just one example; all our interactions with the pass-arounds staff were similarly short and confusing. The waiter was nice and friendly when he showed up but never visited our table after taking our order, until he came to give us the check. Love the rolls! The pork steak was great. The pass arounds will fill you up before you even get your meal. I love the fast pace energy and the employees are kind too! Believe the hype! Lambert's is awesome. For years I've heard how fun and great Lambert's was but I always figured it was a cheesier version of The Cracker Barrel with similar food. Well mark this day in your calendar ladies and gentlemen. I was wrong. The signs for miles advertise Lambert's as the home of the throwed rolls. I wasn't quite sure what to expect so I'll fill you in. A guy or girl comes around with a cart of fresh hot rolls and tosses them to you. They're tossed underhand and pretty easy to catch so don't worry that you'll look like a fool. Plus they're really soft so if you take one to the head you'll be ok. After you've caught a roll or two another worker comes around with apple butter and molasses for your biscuit. I prefer plain honey and that was on the table. One thing that's for sure is that you won't leave hungry. In addition to your entree and sides, there are several passed sides. They only ones we tried were fried okra and potatoes with onions. The potatoes were darn good and well worth getting a heaping serving of. For entrees I trusted the waitress when she told me their ribeye was great. I'm glad I did because that was the best $23 ribeye I've ever had. Don't expect prime steakhouse quality, but it was better than you'd find in any chain steakhouse for sure. While the steak was awesome, the sides were pretty standard. The fries were crinkle cut and the baked potato was a baked potato. Service was exceptional. We had a long day up to this point and the kids were being difficult. Our waitress had the patience of a saint and was amazingly friendly. She was also committed to making sure we enjoyed everything which was a nice touch. If you happen to have Renata as your server, you're in luck. My one complaint, and it's one I'm sure they've heard a lot is their lack of accepting credit cards. They'll take checks though which perplexes me because the amount lost because of bounced checks surely would surpass the 3% credit card fee. When we visited it was crowded, but there was no wait. These delicious rolls and a helping of other "pass-arounds" provide a constant stream of food, and this is without mentioning the entrees! Nearly every dish comes with two sides, so if you are going for a lunch, take my advice and skip breakfast. Even the drinks are extra large when compared to similar restaurants. As previously mentioned there can be a long (and I mean long, 3+ hours if reports are to be believed) wait for a table but it is positively worth it. The staff is always nice and prompt with anything you need. I always ignored this place but for some reason I finally was curious about a "throwed roll" advertised on billboards. So we went. I did not see a single roll throwed. I didn't finish anything I ordered because it wasn't that tasty. I hear everything is made from scratch but I have my doubts - lots of processed tasting food and canned veggies/fruit. The customers inside, however, seemed very happy and enthused to be there. We got in on a weekday during an off peak hour - so there was no wait for us. I've heard some people wait hours to get in! I can see why it's popular - the novelty and the abundance of food, friendly servers, and tons of things to read on the walls. I had the salmon patties they were huge and there were two of them. For my sides I had turnip greens and white beans and cornbread. Came here on a Saturday night to celebrate my grandmother's birthday. It was my first time but she has been many times before. We waited about 45 mins which was expected since we had a party of about 10. We browsed the gift shop as we waited. When the table was ready we were seated and taken care of quickly. For a weekend getaway we headed to Gulf Shores Alabama! So glad we did! So much fun! Beach was very relaxing. Clean and not too crowded. Traffic to get to the beach was heavy though. Lambert's, Home of the Thrown Rolls! Worth the LONG wait!! We waited 1.5hrs on a Saturday. We got there around 2:30pm and were seated at 4pm. Get there BEFORE you're hungry!! We were tempted to leave but I just kept thinking, with this many people waiting, it HAS to be good, right? YES, it was! There's plenty of wait seating, and a wooden play area for the kiddos. They will text you when your table is ready. We browsed the gift shop while we waited. Cute little shop with Lambert's souvenirs. I ALWAYS go for the magnets and coffee mugs. This was an experience!! Of course the thrown rolls! It was funny watching little kids get excited about catching the rolls. The food was delicious and plentiful. Our server, Crystal was THE BEST!! I was curious to see what this home of the throwed rolls was all about. My first impression was the super crowded parking lot and throngs of people spilling out of the restaurant to be seated. TIP: the person to see to get a number to get a table is outside on the porch, not inside. Once your number is called you wait in a separate line inside to be seated. Our wait was about 20 minutes for 2 people on a Saturday night. The restaurant itself is pretty chaotic with waitstaff running around throwing rolls and schlepping the pass around food from table to table. Once seated our drinks were brought out in giant thermos containers. Reading the menu nearly sent me into cardiac arrest. Nearly everything is fried and fattening.....for example hog jowls. I tried to play it safe with the fried shrimp but they were so greasy I could barely eat them. The loaded baked potato and applesauce that I had for sides were good. We got the rolls of course which were giant, hot, fresh, and yummy. Free of charge with an entree is the pass arounds. Staff comes around to the tables and serve fried okra, tomato Mac and cheese, and a few other items. All you can eat. You will definitely walk out full, but possibly ten pounds heavier. We stopped off at Lambert's for lunch on a longer road trip having heard about the fun throwed rolls tradition. We were worried that there would be a long wait to get in, but luckily we only waited for ten minutes or so before being seated. The restaurant was very busy, and the atmosphere was great, with lots of tables calling for throwed rolls and plenty of servers handing out "pass-arounds" (effectively seconds of food). The food itself was very basic comfort food and nothing particularly special, but the restaurant is worth visiting for the experience alone. read more

I haven't been here in years. I think the last time I was here, Yelp wasn't even around. Of course this is the best place in town for home cooked vegetables and fresh cooked to order meats. If you can't decide what to order, just order you favorite meat and eat the pass around vegetables. There are about six to eight side items that they just walk around and offer complimentary. I heard about "throwed rolls" decades ago while living in Missouri, home of the original Lamberts, but only recently ever visited the one in Foley, AL. It's an experience if nothing else. Once we waited a while to be seated, the service was quick, gracious, and efficient. They deserve credit for taking the current COVID-18 pandemic seriously and making a reasonable effort to promote hygiene. Everyone on the staff that we saw was wearing a mask; nearly all properly. Alternate booths are kept empty for social distancing. Happily, no one "throwed" rolls at us. However, they were barely warm, not warm enough to melt the yellow axle grease butter substitute. Pretty pedestrian white bread, not my idea of good yeast rolls with butter. There is no excuse for leaving hungry. The "passarounds" and sides were more than enough to fill empty innards. However, the primary vegetable flavor (black-eyed peas, boiled cabbage, fried potatoes) was excess salt, which, in my experience, exemplifies authentic southern cuisine.
