We thoroughly enjoyed Lambert's! We arrived 5 minutes before they were set to open and the line was already out the doors and into the parking lot. Luckily it moved quickly and we were seated within 15 minutes of getting into line. Not only was the experience of having rolls thrown across the room awesome, our food was too! We weren't quite sure what to do, so one of the waitstaff explained to keep using the paper towels for our rolls and other sides they passed out as we were waiting on our meals. We weren't sure how portions would be so my husband ordered a full rack of ribs to share with our daughter. The ribs were very good! Tender, plenty of sauce. His potato salad tasted just like what my mom makes! I ordered the country fried steak with white gravy, mashed potatoes, & green beans. The country fried steak and gravy were SO GOOD. This is probably one of the most interactively entertaining meals I've ever had. We were literally trying to find a place to eat while driving aimlessly toward home when we found Lambert's, thanks to Yelp!! There was a line building up in the parking lot before the restaurant opened at 11:30. The second the doors swung open, we pushed in like we were trying to be first in line for a Taylor Swift concert to get a table for our large group of 10+ people. We ended up getting split between two large tables. I love white bread, but I think I love it even more when I get pelted with slightly squished white bread rolls as big as my face. Speaking of which, everything here seems super sized, included water cups and coffee cups, which in turns, lessens the frequent need for refills? I loved the unlimited sides that went by every so often, with my favorite being the fried okra (that, or I was starving, and with no plates/entrees yet, we couldn't get anything else, really). I ordered the chicken fried steak, which I probably only took one bite out of since I was so full on sides, bread and water. While all the food we had was huge portion sized, everything tasted ordinary - nothing new or unique. Even so, the reason I had to give Lambert's 4 stars is the experience! This may appear like your average Cracker Barrel, but you can't even imagine the reality of the thrown bread rolls, gigantic portions and unlimited sides. I'm going to start this with I understand the place is always busy. And it's very understandable between the fresh rolls being thrown to the gigantic cups you get your drinks in. The place is a huge tourist spot. As someone who has ate many times there (Usually to take someone who has never been) I cannot recall having to bad of a meal. I recently ate there yesterday as a family get together. Sorry no pics there were a lot of us and wasn't really able to get any. I had ordered the meatloaf. Which was really good but the size of the meatloaf could be disappointing. If it wasn't for the pass around they allow you to have I would have still been hungry. Corn and mash potatoes were also amazing but the baked beans left me wanting a little more seasoning. Wife ordered the pork chop dinner. Which gives you 2 chops and order 3 sides. If you have children the offer peaches and applesauce as sides which our son loves so there is always something for them to eat. The service was ok but it is always busy. If you are a Big tea drinker like myself be sure to drink slowly cause would take forever to get a refill. And for people who have never been. The pass arounds are sides they walk around and offer you throughout your meal and you can get as much as you want. It's macaroni and tomatoes, potatoes and onions, fried okra, black eyed peas, and apple butter and molasses for the rolls. Now I understand they have always done pass around the same way for years but depending on the service that day it might take 30-45 just to your food and use the plate to put them on. I really would suggest placing a small saucer on table for customers after ordering their meal so pass around could be gotten and ate while people wait for their food. All the side fixins coming around were pretty good. This is certainly southern Alabama food in all its glory. The tea is going to be SWEET. The corn is going to have a shot of sugar. The greens and even green beans are going to have a shot of vinegar, and the Apple butter and molasses flows free like they have a tap in the back. I would like to and wish I could give this Lambert's more than just one star, but I am sadly disappointed! My wife and I were/are traveling back home, to siesta key/Sarasota Florida, from a wonderful week and a half almost two week anniversary trip since covid couldn't travel last year. Well, we were originally going to go back through Georgia and by ft Benning where I was stationed from 1990-1994, but saw and remembered there was a Lambert's here in Alabama. So we came out of our route to take more southern route through here just because of this restaurant. I am sad to say this was the most major disappointment! Plus tack on an extra 25 miles off the interstate EACH WAY, to get there! 1-service was horrible. The "pass arounds" passed us right on by! When we finally got fried okra was tiniest amount. 2- my wife didn't order potatoes with her meal because she thought would get the fried potatoes and onions in pass around. EHHH didn't happen. Passed us right on by till we were DONE with our meal and waiting for check to leave! 3- my wife loves unsweetened tea with lemon and the pink packs of sweet n low. EHHHH! Gave her little packs of lemon concentrate and offered SPLENDA! Most horrible sweetener unless you have a hot drink and even then is questionable if it will dissolve or not! So she got water...how lovely darling on our anniversary trip. 4- the chicken fried steak?? WOW what a joke!! Commercial made, frozen, either slipped in an oven or fried for 2 minutes! NOTHING like Ozark, or pictures on menu and website!! Was gross, bland, not hand breaded with seasoning the way a chicken fried steak SHOULD be! Yum! Everything here is so good, but beware of flying rolls. I tried to catch one thrown from halfway across the room. It didn't go well. I had all of the pass arounds. The fried okra is the best, of course. But if you like black eyed peas, they are a close second. I love the online waiting list. Don't let it scare you. They are pretty accurate with the wait predicted. We were told just over an hour and it was a hour. The app told us 43 parties were ahead of us. We left for a bit and went in when there were 10 parties ahead of us. It sure beats the old days when you had to stay there and listen for your name for an hour. We rarely ever eat at the Lambert's here because the wait is ridiculous. Sunday after early church, it didn't look that crowded so we stopped in. They said the wait would be 45 minutes, but it was definitely under 30 minutes. We barely had time to browse the gift shop before they called us. I ordered the pot roast with mashed potatoes, baby carrots and applesauce. The roast was tender and well seasoned. Of course, I had a dab of most of the pass-arounds too, including fried potatoes with onions, fried okra and macaroni and tomatoes. I couldn't decide between molasses and apple butter for my roll, so I broke it into and had molasses on half and apple butter on the other half. It was every bit as delicious as I remember and I still couldn't finish it all. That's saying a lot. My hubs opted for the pork steak with corn, white beans and cottage cheese. His food was cooked to perfection as well. It was a nice change to enjoy the kind of food we grew up eating. Our total tab was around $48, including the tip. We left stuffed and still had enough food for lunch the next day. The nostalgic feeling at Lambert's is incredible. It's a bit sentimental to us because my husband and I both ate at the original Lambert's often as children. I can remember Ole Norm throwing those humongous hot rolls into my tiny hands. We've been here several times and decided to stop in again yesterday after a volleyball tournament. I was surprised we had a 30 minute wait even though it is off season. Our waitress was nice and attentive. The food was fine but a lot saltier than I remembered. I probably would've given 4 stars, but they only came around with two of the pass arounds the entire time we were there. I'm giving it a five star for the atmosphere. We have been here a few times, and they actually do throw hot rolls at you. It's fun and funny to watch. It's a noisy restaurant, but you can still hear your company talking. The walls are covered with old-fashioned knickknacks license plates, pictures and news articles, so there is plenty to look at and read. Their food was good but I will say I wish they had a few more options. I am eating a low-carb diet now and they have something I can eat. However, it's nice when restaurants have a few more options for healthy diets. The food is good. Once you order, they come around and offer you side dishes, such as a handful of fried okra, hot rolls, macaroni, etc. Once again, it's all very heavy on the carbohydrates. Believe the hype! Lambert's is awesome. For years I've heard how fun and great Lambert's was but I always figured it was a cheesier version of The Cracker Barrel with similar food. Well mark this day in your calendar ladies and gentlemen. I was wrong. The signs for miles advertise Lambert's as the home of the throwed rolls. I wasn't quite sure what to expect so I'll fill you in. A guy or girl comes around with a cart of fresh hot rolls and tosses them to you. They're tossed underhand and pretty easy to catch so don't worry that you'll look like a fool. Plus they're really soft so if you take one to the head you'll be ok. After you've caught a roll or two another worker comes around with apple butter and molasses for your biscuit. I prefer plain honey and that was on the table. One thing that's for sure is that you won't leave hungry. In addition to your entree and sides, there are several passed sides. They only ones we tried were fried okra and potatoes with onions. The potatoes were darn good and well worth getting a heaping serving of. For entrees I trusted the waitress when she told me their ribeye was great. I'm glad I did because that was the best $23 ribeye I've ever had. Don't expect prime steakhouse quality, but it was better than you'd find in any chain steakhouse for sure. While the steak was awesome, the sides were pretty standard. The fries were crinkle cut and the baked potato was a baked potato. Service was exceptional. We had a long day up to this point and the kids were being difficult. Our waitress had the patience of a saint and was amazingly friendly. She was also committed to making sure we enjoyed everything which was a nice touch. If you happen to have Renata as your server, you're in luck. My one complaint, and it's one I'm sure they've heard a lot is their lack of accepting credit cards. They'll take checks though which perplexes me because the amount lost because of bounced checks surely would surpass the 3% credit card fee. When we visited it was crowded, but there was no wait.
