Lamberts is a dining staple during our family trips to Gulf Shores/Orange Beach. It is very family oriented and staff there is typically very hospitable. They are home of the "Throwed Rolls". Literally, rolls are thrown at you (at your request) and you better not drop it lol. Kids really enjoy this gesture. Hell, adults enjoy it just as much, lol. They have the best apple butter to dress up your roll, if desired. Honestly I was surprised (and happy) to see that they are still carrying on this tradition post Covid. We last visited in 2017 and absolutely nothing has slowed down or changed since our last visit. The consistency and quality of their service and food is still there AND the portions are still plentiful. You will not leave here hungry. Unless you're early, you should expect a minimum 25-30 minute wait time for seating - wait time varies on the day and time of day. They are a very popular restaurant, but it's worth the wait. read more

The hot rolls are awesome and don't forget to add the molasses and apple butter. Man what a great combo! Additionally when you can try to get some of those delicious cinnamon rolls as they sell out quickly! The service was okay and for the first time in a long time there was no wait time. So I have to say this review is based on the service that is here. Betty tonight was just terrible.... Not sure how many tables she had but 30 min for the check that was wrong. Then 30 min to get my card back.... I was so aggravated after the server was like this. They have to loose stars! Now the food was fantastic i had the pot roast! Was fantastic! Maybe it's because it's not the first time we've been here, or maybe it's actually a restaurant in decline, but the luster of Lambert's throwed rolls is wearing off for our family. We returned here recently on our regular visit to the gulf coast and felt like maybe this would be the last time we eat here going forward. There's clearly still a loyal following of fans, as we had to wait 45 minutes for a table on a Wednesday afternoon. Once we got in, the service was slow and not friendly (not rude or incompetent, just not very personable). Water cups are still huge (awesome) and hot bread rolls arrive regularly with accuracy (we only dropped one this time!), but the actual entrees left a lot to be desired. Essentially, it feels like all of the food here comes from a can and there's very little love used in the cooking. Don't get me wrong, you shouldn't ever leave here hungry - the portion sizes are HUGE - but the flavors are lacking and food is pretty bland. It's a super unique concept and it's fun to catch (and then eat) their hot dinner rolls, but it's not good enough for it to earn a return trip for us anymore. There's lots of other restaurants in the area to check out, and Lambert's kinda falls into the gimmick restaurant category for us now. read more

Now this was definitely an experience. On a previous road trip I saw a sign for Lambert's Cafe and wasn't able to make the trek over there, but recently I was in the area again and made the time to give it a try and it was definitely an experience. For me, it sort of likens itself to a mixture of Texas Roadhouse and Cracker Barrel, now that may be a bad thing to you, I'm just trying to give you a visual of the place- a lot of wood, those wide booths, countryish decor, that family values sort of thing. You know what I mean. There was no way so I was immediately seated but it did take a little bit to get a drink- the drink btw comes in this 34 ounce jug that you can purchase btw, and yes I did. The meal comes with two sides for (for the most part) I chose their chicken and dumplings with cucumber salad and mashed potatoes. I will say that cucumber salad was probably the best I've had (sorry mom), it was so sweet and tangy. The mashed potatoes were just alright. I liked the dumplings and chicken, I did think the gravy was a little bland and watery. Now while reading the menu I saw "passalongs". What are those you ask? Well literally people come around and pass around food to you. Black-eyed peas, potatoes, molasses, apple butter, okra, and probably other things I didn't mention. All for you to eat. And I believe as much as you want. Oh, and the main draw here- they are the home of the "thrower rolls". What does that mean? Well that means they literally throw rolls at you. Piping hot rolls launched at your face. They are freaking delicious. I had two. I wanted more, but two was plenty. Those also can be bought- no I didn't, I wanted to but I didn't. Don't want a roll thrown in your face? Don't worry, they'll come around to the table and hand you one. It's an experience for sure. Lambert's Cafe has always been the place I love coming to every time I'm at the beach. You can't go wrong with getting good food which they gives you plenty of. We got here on a afternoon and was seated promptly. I love catching the rolls every time they toss them and they're really good especially with there apple butter. While waiting for your food, they have servers walking around with a pot of food ready to serve onto your plate. Only when you get your entree is when they come to your table with more side items except for the fried okra which you'll receive first since you can put it on a paper towel. I ended up ordering a half rack ribs with turnip greens and peaches. I also added frog legs to try them out. My meal was good and the frog legs tasted like a mixture of chicken and fish. The only reason I'm downgrading my review is because we was place in a section that require us to hunt down the servers that was passing out the side items since they never seem to come towards our table except for the employee who was tossing the rolls. read more

He was always smiling and actually went above and beyond and it was a party of five. He also got a generous tip from my daughter in law. The apple butter is soooooooooo good on the warm rolls. If you go on Sundays, try to get there before 1pm. If not, be prepared to wait at least 30 minutes. We went to their other location in Missouri 12 years ago and we loved it, so I knew we had to go to this location when I saw how close it was to our beach house. We found Lamberts on Roadside America and made the 30 minute detour and was not disappointed. We got there about 10:50 and they open at 11 on Sunday. So glad we were there early as the get busy so fast. Andy our waiter was very friendly and told us how things go. We had water and unsweetened tea. They come in huge cups. We ordered a hamburger with coleslaw and Bbq with turnip greens. As soon as we ordered the started the famous roll throwing, caught mine and enjoyed with apple butter, next came around the fried okra again delicious. Our meals came out very quickly. The hamburger was good and the bbq was very good with their homemade sauce. our sides of coleslaw and turnip greens were great and not real salty. I caught another roll from across the room. They came around with Macaroni and tomatoes(fair), fried potatoes(excellent), black eyed peas(to full to try). A great meal and will detour again when close by. So this restaurant is just such an experience that you have to try it at least once! After that you can decide for yourself if you want to go back again. For us, the experience was 5 -stars and the food was 3-stars. It was totally worth going for the experience alone IMO. We would go back again if we are in the area and the wait is VERY short. We were quoted a wait time of 1.5 hours and that's pretty much exactly how long we waited. While the restaurant was VERY busy, the service was good overall. All of the Pass Arounds made themselves to our table over the course of our meal and it was a lot of fun to try a little bit of so many side dishes. Other than the Pass Arounds, We ordered roast beef, ribs, chicken pot pies, chicken n' dumplings, and catfish. So we've been to Lambert's multiple time but I wanted to do a review for this trip. First, this visit was very easy to get in now that tourist season is dying down and it was a early Monday evening, but it was still packed inside. One of my wife's vendors, Noah, was in town and wanted to try Lambert's. Noah and his family had tried during the summer but it was a 1.5-2hr wait. We told him how the restaurant works with "free" Pass-Arounds along with your ordered meal and that the restaurant was famously known for the "Thrown Roll". Our server came and took our drink orders. She was very polite and friendly, with a upbeat attitude. That always helps with getting an evening started. Noah was already overwhelmed with the size of our drink, which are large plastic, insulated mugs. Noah order the pork chops, my wife ordered catfish, and I ordered the hamburger steak. We saw Hog Jowl on the menu but you could order it as a side, so we put a side order of Hog Jowl in because we were curious what it was as none of us have even heard of it.. Once the Orders were placed, the first pass around that came around was the fried okra. If you love fried okra, you will love Lambert's fried okra. Delicious! Next was the thrown dinner roll. Now this think was huge! My wife recommended trying with either molasses or apple butter. Our waitress heard us and quickly walked the apple butter/molasses pass around person to us. I can't speak for that as I used regular butter on my roll, which was very good, but they both swore on the apple butter and molasses with the dinner roll. Noah asked about the other pass arounds and we explain how they give the okra now because you can put on a paper towel, but the other pass arounds have to go on your plate because they have some liquid, such as black eyed peas, tomatoes and macaroni, etc. So our dinners came out pretty quickly and the portion sizes of the entree were large. As soon as our plates hit the table, the pass arounds started coming around. The fried potatoes are very delicious and they put a large spoon size on your plate. I also got the black eyed peas. For me, I can tell you that I ate 1/4 of my hamburger steak and none of my ordered sides as I got filled from the roll, two spoons of fried okra, and, oh yeah, the Hog Jowl. Let me tell you about this. If you love bacon, this was like a mixture of thick bacon, ham, and pork rinds deep fried to perfection. I could not stop grabbing a piece. The molasses server came by and highly recommended to try the hog jowl with the molasses. That tasted like candied bacon. This stuff was so good that I had to tell all my coworkers about it the next day. Long story short, Lambert's serves large portions of very tasty southern style foods, where, if you plan it right, you'll be going home with a complete meal after getting filled from a complete meal. The service is awesome with a friendly staff on hand. This visit didn't qualify, but the only reason it did not get five stars is that I know how busy this place can be where it would take a 1-2 hr wait to get in. If you are in the area, bring an appetite to Lambert's, you won't be disappointed. read more

A restaurant that has a feeling of going over to a 'grandmas' to enjoy some southern cooking with an abundance of drinks and food. Just like grandma would have you have 2nd helpings; that isn't necessary as everything from the drinks to the food are extremely large portions. This place is an experience from itself, from the throwing of the rolls to the 'pass around' which are unlimited side items that the servers pass around from table to table. I had concerns that it was community seating and customers were passing items around - luckily it wasn't. There is tons of southern history and it shows with the decor of the place. The one thing that stood out to me, was the Blue Lives Matters Flag proudly hanging in the center - part of me is not surprised given the rustic atmosphere and location, but still taken aback as it is something that some police departments have banned themselves as it is controversial for various reasons. But you don't go to a restaurant for the decor even if it isn't inclusive of everyone, I would still go at least once. read more

It was a fun night but mostly because of the people we were with. I hadn't eaten here in a long time and it was my grown son's birthday and his friends made it a great night but the food was not good. I didn't take pictures because it was a party, I was having fun and I am not paid by yelp so... the food really felt like they had given up. It was bland and just not good. I wish it had been, but really I guess now days you just go so you can experience rolls thrown at you. One of our party stuck their fork in the their mashed potatoes and picked up the whole thing like a hockey puck.
