We will never go back Lamar's on Wornell used to be half way reasonable. They sold and took away 1/2 price after 12 and any other specials. SO EXPENSIVE now. This place is great! I should have taken a picture of the interior because there is plenty of space to sit. I love that this place is open later than most donut places. This was my second attempt to come here, and they were out of both chocolate long John's and chocolate circles both times, but that's my fault for not being a morning person. I was happy to see that you can order online so maybe I will do that in the future. I did try their cake donuts today though and they are DELICIOUS!! Lamars donuts are a favorite in our household. They have nice sized glazed donuts in regular and chocolate, cake donuts, twists and longjohns. The longjohns can be filled with barbarian cream or fluffy whipped filling in either chocolate or vanilla. Kind of rare to find both the Bavarian cream and whipped filling these days! They also often have a few donuts that are topped just crazy, like a bazillion candied chocolates and such. I am a big fan of maple frosting and they have that. As far as donuts go, they're good. Service and hygiene are not so good. As we approached the counter, I noticed one of the girls at the counter rubbing her eyes with her fingers (with the plastic gloves on). She then asked us what we wanted and we told her, but then stopped her and told her she just rubbed her eye with her finger and never changed her gloves. She said "that's ok, I'll use this other hand to put the donuts in the bag" We watched and if you ever have tried to put a huge apple fritter into a small bag, you can't just use one hand. She used BOTH. We said, forget it and walked out. My beef is, if you're going to work in a food service organization, hygiene is #1. CHANGE TO NEW GLOVES!!! They always have an abundance of plastic disposable gloves!!!! I will Never walk in that Lamar's again because apparently teaching hygiene 101 is not on their list when hiring people! The line here is always long. This place is located right by the KU Edwards campus so it's kind of in a weird location. It's a pretty roomy place and the line does move pretty quickly whenever I'm there. Lamar's donuts are really big in size, and the establishment is such a cornerstone to Kansas City that they have such a huge following. Sure, there are other fancy donut places that have cropped up, but this is the real deal for KC. Their glazed is awesome and gigantic. I also really like their cinnamon twist. A dozen glazed donuts will run you about $14 which is reasonable considering they are twice as big as most donuts. I think you would do yourself a disservice if you haven't had one of these donuts. They aren't super fancy, but they are super yummy! read more

These are my favorite old school donuts around town. This location is odd in that it shares a space with a KU bookstore, but there's a decent amount of space inside with tables and parking. Tis the time of year for the cream cheese topped pumpkin spice donuts and they are heavenly. Even when those aren't in season, it's hard to beat the chocolate cake chocolate iced or red velvet cake varieties. Being able to get milk along with the donuts is always appreciated. 2%, whole, chocolate, and strawberry were the flavors on hand. Picked up a dozen assorted and half a dozen glazed for about $22, which is pretty reasonable. But like most donut places, if you want to make sure they've got the donuts you want, get there early as they tend to sell out. read more

So so delicious! I've been trying all the donuts in this area and LaMar's makes it to the top 3 for sure. These were so moist and delicious and SO large! What more can you ask for?! I've never been a fan of donuts, but I stopped in for some coffee. The space is large and looked pristine clean. Impressive! The young woman that took my order was outstanding. She was wearing a big smile, had a great personality, was able to answer every question I had without hesitation, and she was polite and well-mannered! Wish I'd of taken note of her name. She was working today, just before 2pm at 127th and Quivira. I had an iced coffee that was good. The donuts looked so good (large variety) I even had one! It was good. I haven't been here in about 8 months, but it was my daughters birthday, and she wanted Lamar's. I was surprised by the empty parking lot, and the place didn't have a single customer, and the display was completely full. That wasn't how it was last year. We grabbed the donuts and I got my receipt and by lord, it was $25 for 6 little donuts. I couldn't very well walk out with it being my daughters birthday, but never ever ever again. This place is going to close and go out of business soon. It's $11 for the same assortment of donuts at Dunkin, only you get 12 instead of 6. Same with Krispy Kreme, and even Fluffy Fresh is half this cost. Sorry for ranting, but this upset me very much. I felt ripped off badly. read more

It's a small donut shop what could go wrong? Well let's start with the help, I'm all for having our youth working but please business owners have a responsible worker be there that understands how your store is run, can interact with the customer and help your business grow. Although the three kids that could only take donut orders at the counter were very talented at dancing and mixing sodas for themselves to try as the line to pay was growing and growing when I finally got to the register and order my coffee the poor kids either didn't know what I was ordering or didn't know how to make it. This place is always under staffed, especially on the weekends. Every time I have went to LaMar's, there are at least 15 people in line. The donuts are great, however, the wait time is ridiculous! There was even a person who came in saying they had a seven dozen call in order while there were only two people working. The order was not made, and the person working allowed this person to cut in line in front of 15+ people. Some people walked out at that point. I must say that, while I do enjoy Lamar's Donuts as a whole (or hole?), this location is really disappointing. It's like an afterthought that was opened to pull in money at the expense of the Lamar's experience. I usually end up at the Lamar's on 111th and Antioch, which is a great store. Therefore, I was really surprised to see the difference in this location. For one, it's part of what I would argue to be a union-like part of KU Edwards campus, complete with a bookshop. Not sure if this serves as KU Edwards' Student Union, but it does seem like it. Not an issue, but different. It seems this location tries to be more coffee shop and less donut shop. It's large, with lots of seating, but the counter area and selection are quite small. If you are used to the 111th/Antioch location with 2-3 display cases of donuts, you might be a bit shocked to find out this one has a whopping one lone, single display case. So, obviously, selection is poor compared to what I am used to. Now, it did have the basics, so normally I would be fine. However, the donuts we got were dry and slightly stale, which is a huge departure from the always fresh donuts I have had at other locations. It's like the donuts are just an after thought at this donut store. I'll stick to my usual location where there is more selection and better quality. This Lamar's is not enjoyable to me. read more

It's pretty dangerous that this place is about a 2 minute drive from my house, but it's much more perilous for students at the KU Edwards campus since it's just a short walk before they experience the fabulous donut-y goodness. There's always friendly staff members here, and the donuts are what you'd expect from Lamars: delicious! They're not as fresh out of the deep-fryer as you'd get a flagship store, but they're fresh and wonderful! Go try this place! read more

And for the privilege of hearing they are sold out and didn't fill your order placed 45 minutes earlier, you have to wait in line with people who don't know how ow can't be bothered to wear a mask so it covers their nostrils. It's a great place for students that want to grab a bite to eat and study or read but for your average customer expecting a traditional donut shop experience , you will be disappointed The donuts are not fresh, and are not made at this location.
