My husband and I visited Lam Van for the first time this past Saturday, 10/18/2025 at around 3:30 PM. The store is small but packed with all kinds of packaged foods to go. If you're looking for variety and authentic Vietnamese finds, this place definitely delivers. However, the tight space made it feel a bit claustrophobic, especially with multiple customers coming in all at once. There's not much room to walk or explore everything that they have to offer. We picked up the following: Large Goi Sen Sua Tom Thit (Lotus Salad) - $35 as of Oct. 2025 - This hits the spot and is pretty tasty on a hot day. The family gobbled this up. It comes with shrimp, lotus root stems, pickled carrots, celery, thin pork slices, jellyfish, crushed peanuts, and fish sauce dressing. I just wish they added more jellyfish since I love those textures and taste. My sister in law has also previously picked up bánh nam, Vietnamese Steamed Rice Dumplings, that my husband and I both enjoy. Remember, this place is Cash Only!

Wow! What an EPIC spot to grab your favorite Vietnamese food dishes on the go! My favorite spot in this plaza - Kim Huong - didn't have any spring rolls yesterday, so I wandered the plaza to see where I could get some - walked into Lam Van just a few steps away and was blown away by all the different sorts of Vietnamese delicacies - including spring rolls - that they had! There's plate sizes of all sorts - from individual servings, to small servings - to massive trays. They had all the favorites like spring rolls, egg rolls, fried noodle trays, banh beo, banh cuon, banh bot lot - to more party type dishes like bo la lot - one of my favorite dishes that you'd usually find at Bo 7 mon restaurants. They have nem nuong and cha lua for sale, as well as a decent display of crispy wings - which I'm bummed I didn't try any since the other reviewers mentioned how yummy they were - I just wanted to grab brunch and get out. The spring rolls I picked up were fresh, each bite dipped into the rich peanut/hoison sauce was full of flavor. The meat to veggie/roll ratio was great. The cafe sua da was awesome. Strong and long-lasting - the flavor was still present over an hour later when I finally managed to finish it after a morning full of errands. By the way - this place gets crowded quick. And it really is standing room only/grab and go type. There's no seating inside or outside. Cash only. No cards are accepted. The owner was prompt and professional.

Got dam Lam Van.. Chicken wings!! That's it. That's the review. Go get em. Delicious, caramelized, crispy, sweet, salty, umami, fish sauce-y.. the dish at any party that makes everyone ask "what are these and where do I get them?" You also need cash. And a Vietnamese speaker. No English menu. This is a true IYKYK spot.

I'm surprised of the lower ratings for this vietnamese deli/food to go shop. They have many choices of catering items and tray, pre-prepared foods. Most of times still warm as they bring those out throughout the day and many on the tables ready to pick up and go. I always get the banh nam, vermicelli glass noodles with shrimp and crab meat. Better quality than most of them in the area. Egg rolls are also good. Many choices to select from if you don't have time to cook for some larger size party and/or events.

This place has been here for ages and well known for Hue (middle VN) foods. They cater for big portion of foods but do sell certain dishes in small portions. I'm here to pick up couple try of fried noodle and nem nuong for family gardening. If you order party tray then definitely a great deal but if you buy individually then the price is abit high. The quality wise, just decent and consistent favor since the 80s, which mean they don't upgraded or updated - which can be a good thing or can be bad thing. The noodle is abit oily and abit salty and the nem nuong is just bland, even with their dipping sauce. I also got small portions of 2 different fried fish case and both are abit salty for my taste. Also I got their egg rolls which is good (still oily - soaked the paper bag), and the fried banana (which the banana is still rough, not soft and too much oil - soaked the paper bag and when I heated in the oven, more oil came out. Service wise, it was fine when I ordered, but I did noticed just a tag of not being nice to certain folks (their excuse was they are regular customers since someone asked). If you have a family harder and wanted Hue foods with decent prices and big portions then this would be the place but if you just want small portion then I would suggest to go to restaurants catering for Hue foods for better foods, quality and services but the price can be high.

So many options!!! We brought some prepackaged food home and I was so impressed with all the choices. Everything looked fresh too!

Ask the Community - Lam Van

    How much are chicken wings?

$50 per small party tray. Must call to order first.

Is the butter chicken and fish sauce chicken different?

Yes. fish sauce is what they're known for, but they do have butter as well.

Are there party trays ready to be picked up and purchased on the same day or do we need to call and order in advance?

It depends, they normally have some trays premade but to be safe, order ahead. The trays they have might not be what you wanted.

It really nails that traditional Northern-style flavor profile. Pro tip: make sure to mix in some sa tế, as it completely amplifies the broth and takes it to the next level! Also, I'm so hyped that the Cháo Sườn Quẩy is FINALLY back on the menu! It came out piping hot and is just as comforting as I remember. Food Bánh Mì Pate Que (2) - $5.99 Served as two pieces, this Hải Phòng-style bánh mì came with pate, shredded pork, and a house chili sauce. The bread was nicely toasted and served warm, making it easy to share. Bánh Ướt Đặc Biệt - $14.50 Steamed rice sheets topped with pork patties, fried tofu, and fresh vegetables, served with a house fish sauce. The sauce leaned light and slightly sweet, which may appeal to some but felt a bit mild overall. Bún Chả Hà Nội - $16.50 Rice vermicelli served with grilled pork, pork patties, fresh herbs, and house fish sauce. Similar to the other dish, the sauce was on the lighter side in terms of flavor. The protein portions also felt a bit small for the price. Service My party and I were greeted and seated promptly upon our arrival. A server brought menus and returned shortly after to take our order. However, they did not check-in throughout the dining experience. We arrived about 30 minutes before closing and the food came out quickly. Payment is processed at the register near the back by the kitchen. Ambiance The restaurant is dimly lit with plenty of seating for dine-in. Location It is located in a strip plaza with a shared parking alongside other businesses.

Over all those years, they have never disappointed me and continue to serve really good food. I usually get the beef brisket pho and it's really good. The noodles are just the right texture, the broth is clean and flavorful, and the meat tastes fresh and tender. Their dui bo is also very good, but usually runs out after 1:00 or 2:00 pm, since they only have a limited amount of this item every day. The meat is fall off the bone tender and has a more fatty flavor to it. It usually sits in some broth that absorbs that beefy and fatty flavor from the bone. A great addition to any bowl of pho. Alternatively, I sometimes also get the bun thit nuong and it's very good. The eggrolls it comes with is wrapped with rice paper, so when it's fried up, it has such a satisfying crunch and texture to it. The thit nuong is has a nice smokey, grilled flavor to it. The shrimps are okay as well. This is a very satisfying and filling dish, so if you're looking for a high volume dish, this may be the one to get. Expect long lines during peak hours. I can confirm though that the wait is worth it! Service is always very good. The ambiance on the inside is fine, very plain and unassuming in my opinion. It's really the pho that shines through at this restaurant. Parking can be a little tricky during peak hours.

When I tell you this is the BEST broth I've ever had, it blew me away. I'm not one to usually order extra noodles but for this place I would order as many noodles until I ran out of broth, it is that good. Noodles were on the soggier side, I'm not picky about noodles but if you are then this is something to consider. Portions were huge for the price, very happy with that. CASH ONLY. I didn't see an ATM there but I'm sure they had one. Will always recommend and they have a new customer for whenever I'm in OC.

We started with the Vietnamese coffee ($7), which was bold, strong, and nicely balanced with the sweetness from the condensed milk. A great way to kick things off. The egg rolls ($10) were packed with beef, shrimp, wood ear mushroom, and vermicelli--crispy on the outside and paired perfectly with fresh lettuce and fish sauce. The standout for me was the flaming wagyu ($18), torched tableside. For how thick the cut was, it was incredibly tender and soft. Definitely go medium rare. The ponzu dipping sauce really enhances the richness of the beef. We also tried the shaken beef ($21), which came with plenty of caramelized onions and bell peppers that added a subtle sweetness. The beef was slightly charred, bite-sized, and super satisfying--especially with rice. The combo pho ($25) came loaded with a variety of meats, all tender and melt-in-your-mouth. The broth had a deep, beefy richness, and the noodles were perfectly soft. Add in the garnishes for some crunch and it really ties everything together. Overall, a solid spot with quality ingredients and flavorful dishes. Would definitely come back if I'm in the area.
