I'd rate Laly's four and a half stars. They have indoor and outdoor dining. We stopped in for a couple drinks to wait out a passing thunderstorm. My wife had a mango mojito. She was very happy with it. First, I had a beer on draft. They had six taps. One local craft plus five sessionable macros. Later, I noticed they'd had a handful of interesting mezcals. The bartender let me take a look at a few of the bottles to make a decision. They mostly had Espadins but there was one made in copper pots with a high ABV that I opted for; I think it was Vagu Mezcal. Service was friendly and attentive. Two gender labeled private restrooms which could probably be utilized as gender neutral. The mens was spacious. Stopped by for their brunch deal of a free margarita with any entree and it did not disappoint. I love the location. It's close to the train and its quite spacious, did not feel cramped at all. Their lalys margarita was pretty good, but let me tell you about this short rib benedict. The meat was just melting in my mouth and was sooo juicy and flavorful. Topped off with a poached egg covered in chipotle hollandaise sauce, you best be running out the door to get one(or three). Best of all, this place is pretty fair with the pricing, the brunch deal is one of the best I've seen and as far as the quality definitely a top tier brunch spot. Had this spot bookmarked for a little bit now, specifically for its blueberry pancakes. I ended up craving pancakes this past week and knew it was finally time to order them! I'm no pancakes connoisseur, but the blueberry pancakes I got were the best I've ever had. I had ordered them for pickup and lowered my expectations thinking that they might be that great since I wasn't eating at the restaurant. I was wrong, they were amazing. Not only did it taste great, but it was also visually stunning. Awesome place! What a good find. Portions are sizable! Service and Ambiance: The Ambiance is great. A spacey restaurant with plenty of seating and has a very Mexican inspired theme. There's a bar at the very end of the restaurant. The service was great and I appreciated the attentiveness of our servers and their willingness to help out with everything. Food: Food was great. Highlight was the fish tacos which were well balanced with the mango salad and lime. The fish was crisp. The only regret was asking for the flour shell substitution. The flour tortilla looked like it was taken out of a supermarket package and not warmed. Perhaps the corn tortilla it was supposed to come with would have been better. Shrimp quesadillas were also good, but a bit flavorless and could use some sort of sauce or spice. The portion size was HUGE (as was the fish tacos) and so you are definitely getting your money's worth here. Tres leches: Great. Loved it and had it all. I met a friend here for lunch and we ordered a handful of things to try. Honestly, other than one dish, the rest were pretty darn good. If this was closer to home, it would be somewhere I visit quite often. For starters, the Tortilla soup was quite flavorful and shockingly the chicken didn't taste horrible, which is a win in my book. The Chorizo Mac & Cheese had plenty of meat, more importantly, it wasn't dry and actually quite moist. Unfortunately, the Chilaquiles was that one dish I won't order again. The described "crispy corn tortillas" were exactly the opposite, soggy. In the middle of us eating the appetizers, they brought out our entrees. I would say that we were chatting quite a bit and ate slower than most. However, the wait staff really should communicate that to the kitchen, especially seeing that our three apps were still more than half full. Regardless, waitress was friendly enough and I really didn't mind much. Just thought I share. For entrees, I had the Fish Tacos and it was fantastic. Crispy tender cod with fresh veggies in corn tortillas. My friend enjoyed a healthy sized Cemita Burger, which I tried and liked as well. I would say that both entrees were winners. Had the most amazing breakfast at Lalys in Queens. This place is a hidden gem. I loved everything from their breakfast menu and the portions are huge! They are popular for their mexican breakfast items like Chilaqulis, Huevos Rancheros and Tacos. I rarely come to sit down and eat in roosevelt because its hard to find parking. This place is definitely worth the trip. The food was excellent and so was the service. I orginally came because I wanted to try the blueberry pancakes I kept seeing pictures of. Well that will have to wait till next time as I saw a picture of the avocado toast and couldn't resist. I'm glad I got it because it was amazing. Bread was good and perfectly poached eggs. The salad went so well with it also. The chicken and pancakes were also amazing. The pancakes were soo fluffy and chicken was excellent. My fave though was the shrimp over tortillas which had a slight sweetness that I didn't expect, almost like a corn cake. We absolutely love Laly's. We are frequent guests since I live in the neighborhood. It's a great mix of American and traditional Mexican. The food is incredible- so fresh, and great portions. We've tried most of the menu at this point, but the chicken quesadilla is to DIE for and their queso fundito to start with is soooo creamy and fresh. The salsa verde enchiladas with pickled onions and avocado is my favorite, though. The staff are always super welcoming and we love their drink specials. The food is good but only certain dishes. I was not a fan of the burrito, it had too much going on. The chorizo was not flavorful and the whole burrito got soggy quickly. The Nutella pancakes were yummy, very fluffy and great for sharing if you are not a big eater. The chilaquiles were super spicy, so if you can't handle it, back away! My boyfriend was a fan of it and said he would re-order. He said it does need more sour cream to balance out the spiciness. Although the majority of the dishes were good, the waiter had poor customer service. He did not check in on the tables or offer water. We ordered chicken soup, shrimp quesadillas and mole burritos. The soup came out looking fresh and smelling divine. Sadly it lacked salt and flavor but it was still comforting on a chilly day. The shrimp quesadillas were really good, part of the lunch special menu. It was crispy, cheesy and fresh tasting. My friend who ordered it wasn't completely sold. I had the chicken burritos with mole. They were decent and I ate them fast (chicken was a bit dry).The problem is there is no pizzazz to the food here. It is simple Mexican food. I would come back but it's not a first choice. They need to add more flavors to their food. This place replaced McDonald's and thank goodness. Fantastic New Mexican American restaurant. Came here with a friend on a Saturday night (my friend already came on Friday morning) and came with me again. Twice in the same weekend, says something about how good their food is. Absolutely wonderful service - the waitress and owner (?) were super friendly, it was almost like I wasn't in NYC. They were attentive, easy going, and gave a cheerful vibe. The food was good - the corn was amazing. Having spoken to the waitress, they said their food source were locally sourced from upstate which is a plus. I had a cemitos burger which the portion was very generous. My boo and I came here this (09/29/2018) evening. We decided to support the new local business that opened up in the former McD's (which we have never set foot inside of prior to) and try their eats. We both ordered a burger. The place seems to have American food with a Mexican Twist. On the exterior signage it states that it's American & Mexican. It also states that they serve Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner. The light from the sign, doesn't emit enough of a glow to really illuminate that, so if one is just passing by, they might not notice that detail, but if one is waiting for the crosswalk to change and gazing at the signage, then there's hope; like my boo and I, for example! Ambiance is calming, despite all the honks and the passing subway trains on occasion. Some slow music and country fill the room. The dining space is large. There are a few booth tables along the main wall and the rest of the space is filled with smaller two-seater tables that can be rearranged as needed. At the back there's a bar, the kitchen, and the restroom(s). We didn't need to take a leak, so I'm not sure how that is. The space was overall clean. The booths have a gap between the seat and the wall so beware of your personal belongings. The booth seats make a crunchy like sound when you bounce on them. They're quite bouncy when seating oneself. We started off with the deviled eggs. They were quite tasty and we devoured them fast. Water service was decent. I think instead of asking if we want more water, bring the extra water as soon as you notice it is low. People truly appreciate that. When it may be close to the "check" then, that would be an ideal time to ask the person(s) dining whether they'd like more water. I had the Cemita well-done w/o the bun. The meat was a bit tough and the exterior was burnt. It didn't taste like fresh beef, but I ate it anyway. No problems post food. The avocado was super fresh. The refried beans come in a small container, like the containers that the chipotle mayo and (as requested) regular mustard came in. The refried beans looked like ground beef and were a bit tough to fork out, but tasty nonetheless. I really liked mixing the mustard with the chipotle mayo for the fries. Yumm. The fries weren't soggy, not too salty, and soft (which I like in fries). My boo had the demo burger (medium), which came with a few surprises, hence the 3* review. The description of the Demo Burger is as follows: 2 fresh patties, American cheese, Laly's sauce, lettuce, tomato, onion, and pickle. If you'll look at my pictures of the food, his burger came with bacon. That was a no-no for tonight. In addition, we had asked if the pickle was on the side....my boo doesn't like pickles, but I do..... our server confirmed that the pickle would not be on the burger. When his dish came forth, the pickle was toothpicked in with the rest of everything else and the added bacon. I cannot eat any pig products or food that have touched pig products...... I wasn't able to eat the pickle, and my boo is against tossing food out, so he had to stomach it though he hates the taste. Toward the end of our dinner adventure, one of the bus ladies came over to ask if we wanted anything else. She kind of stood there awkwardly, so we asked for the dessert menu. Then shortly thereafter, our waitress came by and she asked if we wanted anything else. We said no thank you and asked for our check. The environment is not as bougie as Queensboro but I'll take the pancakes, breakfast enchiladas, and breakfast burrito here over the Queensboro breakfast/brunch any day. The sandwiches and tacos are solid too. They have a more or less full bar and friendly, attentive service. My friend and I tried the banana nut pancakes, avocado toast, and fish tacos. The food was good but service was not very attentive. The banana nut pancakes was huge! It is the thick type of pancakes. I prefer them thin. We couldn't finish it with all the food we ordered. The avocado toast is a brunch special and comes with two pieces with poached eggs and a salad. I love this place. I miss the staff that I originally dealt with though. The food is great. There is still one guy that works there that knows my preferences and that's so awesome. A lot of places can learn from Laly's. I can't speak for others but they always treat me good and my drinks keep coming! Some of the new staff don't know me so sometimes service takes a while. My friend and I only went here for some desserts and coffee after having dinner down the street. We were the only ones there for a while, which I was a little worried about. But it was late on a weekday, so I didn't pay it too much mind. The server was super nice and patient. My friend and I split a tres leches cake and churritos. He got a coffee and I got a horchata. Everything was delicious! I'm glad we stopped in for a sweet treat. We ended up spending over an hour just warming up and talking while slowly eating our desserts.
