It can be a busy place from time to time but overall you will be in and out in a jiffy. They also make custom cakes, which is what I opted for. the cream was perfectly light and fragrant with rosewater. The cake was airy and fluffy at the same time. * Short and sweet * This little bakery tucked away on a side street in North Vancouver makes for a perfect milestone review (#900). They have a beautiful selection of both Persian and European sweets, as well as a selection of dried fruits and nuts. Apparently they also make wedding cakes. If you're meandering down Lonsdale with a little sweet tooth, mosy on down to 15th & Lonsdale to Laleh for a huge selection of mini baked goods. Each piece is about 35 cents! Catering to little Persia, the lady baker doesn't speak English, just Farsi. I asked for recommendations as nothing was labeled and she was confused. When 2 of your Persian clients recommend this, you know it's the spot ;) Actually, I didn't like the look of their baklava's, the ones in DT are a bigger square, laced with more honey and sprinkles of pistachios...their's are like bite-size. nonetheless, I went with a similar, with more layers of softness of flakes, and whipped cream inside. Incredible. the cherry coconut tart also good too, not as good. And I'll pass on their chocolate puff cookies, dry and not much taste to it. Very busy. How I heard of this place: After a glorious lunch at Cazba, we walked around the corner to Laleh Bakery, where the smell of fresh-baked pastries wafted through the air. Type of cuisine: A Persian bakery which offers traditional cookies, cakes, pastries, nuts and seeds in bulk, including other Persian/Iranian goods. The Foodosophy website offers a perfect depiction of these Persian delicacies: "North Vancouver's Laleh Bakery specializes in Persian cookies that you serve to accompany traditional afternoon tea. These melt-in-your-mouth treats pair well with tea drinking. They come in a variety of textures that complement the ritual - often slightly dry, flakey, and grainy - with crunchy punctuation provided by walnuts, or pistachios. Some are sticky sweet, or are covered in powdered sugar. Butter and semolina lend their richness, and the subtle flavour of cardamon or rosewater permeate many of these confections. Date and fig jams are used as spreads sandwiched between cookie rounds or as fillings. Preserves such as apricot, or berry jam serve to fill thumbprint indentations." Hands down the best bakery on the north shore!!!! Take it from a Persian who has high standards for sweets. Laleh has been my family's go to for 15+ years and the quality is always consistently amazing. Their Rollet cakes are what we bring to every Persian get-together, and I've even brought some for my team at work, who all beg me to bring more into the office! The rest of the sweets are so yummy, I particularly love the Napoleans & the little muffins. Service is great for when you want to go in and out of a bakery/just get your food. The staff is not even close to rude, they're just non-challent. Keep in mind it's a bakery not a sit-in restaurant so I don't understand everyone's super high expectations. Also, I read a comment that another lady apparently "bugged" in front of someone else....they have phone orders, so yes the person behind you might actually have placed their order first! I researched bakery's on line as I am based in England and wanted to find a special Easter cake for my great Aunty who is 93 years old and based in North Vancouver without any friends or family to care for her locally. I came across Laleh's Bakery and decided to order from them as a result of their great reviews. And I wasn't not disappointed! My aunty sent me the photos with a beautiful description of the cake, quoting 'The cake was just super and the chocolate creamy just perfect'. I would personally like to thank Mr Sayed (hopefully I have the spelling correct) for all his help and assistance, he couldn't have been more accommodating. Went into the bakery this evening and had the worst customer service. I walked in and saw a couple ahead of me ordering pastries so I patiently wait, was also on the phone so kinda hard not to notice me, and there was no one behind me. As the couple finishes their payment, a lady walks in and stands behind me. I'm next in line, in front of the til, she starts talking to the lady behind me, trying to take her order. I said I was next, and she proceeds to tell me no, I was not. She then asks the lady behind me who came in first, and she said me. I get 3 pastries, she weighs it, tells me I need to buy more because its not $5 worth. I did NOT see a sign that states that, not even a handwritten note taped to the debit machine. Whatever, I put in another cookie, still only $4.84, but then she said it was okay, it was near enough. Whatever, I use my debit card, as soon as I see APPROVED, I take my card and turn to the door. She then calls to me over the counter and other lady, "Can you not leave the machine until it says approved?" As I'm saying this, the receipt is printing, and it still says APPROVED on the screen. All I wanted were some cookies and I got a mouthful. read more
