Great customer service as soon as we walked in the door we was greeted. The overall spot is cozy and small but you do have a few tables to eat at plus window seating. We ordered some of the Pattie's that they offer which are spinach and chickpea. They are not like the traditional one they use more of a flaky croissant type of breading. This has been my "go-to" (Grub Hub/Uber Eats) spot for me and my friends throughout the pandemic for our latte "fix". I go in every now and then but not as much as I'd like to due to the pandemic/social distancing and the cashier :-(. The Bad: I've always had the same barista/cashier which is a beautiful young lady but not really friendly and always give passive aggressive vibes. She also took my temperature and passed me the notebook and a marker to record my info (Covid Dine-in Precautions) with her right hand ALL while making someones smoothie with her left, which, to me, seemed counterintuitive. This is also not solely based on my interaction but my viewing of her interactions with other customers and delivery men. I've definitely been to other cafes with wayyy much friendlier and warmer service. I only took off one star for this because it also seems with her handling mobile orders, walk-ins, and barista-ing BY HERSELF she could be overworked and that is to blame for being "short" with customers. The Good: Simple. The food, drinks, and the music!!!! Which is why I will continue to support. Being Black-Owned is simply the icing on the cake for me. Today I had the Avocado Toast with salt fish and an iced caramel latte with reg milk which came up to $17. **CHEFS KISS** omg It was perfect. Didn't care for the tangy vinaigrette dressing but Its just a preference and I also didn't need it. You can dine-in but you have to order food and you're limited to an hour. It took about 15min for my food. I think they only have one person cooking but I didn't find it to be a problem. If you're in a rush definitely order ahead, obviously. The MUSIC is always perfect when I'm in there. Think Neo Soul, some HER, Jazmine Sullivan, Brent Faiyaz, etc. The drinks are always perfect! The coffee is never too sweet or biter. There is nothing like it in the area with quality coffee and cute vibes, being black owned is a super plus since gentrification is looming over crown heights like a pestilent "reeper" for the last several years. This place is okay. I tried their oyster sandwhich it comes with a side of plantain chips. It was very good .I also had their peanut smoothie which was tasty. However they take extremely long to do their orders. I waited a little over half an hour for one sandwhich and a smoothie that's way too long especially if you're trying to just get something on a lunch break. I was hyped to try their vegan options considering Haitian food is the most flavorful food created on this planet. No one cooks like Nunoon nor Funa but we'll give it a try. The vegan joumou 6/10. I can't rave about it because it was missing something (no it wasn't the meat). The oyster mushroom burger was gross. The batter was bland. Why give me epis to pour on top when it doesn't help that you've deep fried an over-battered bunch of oysters without adding as much as a pinch of salt and the flavors required to call it Manje Ayisyen? I was too through. And, I couldn't complain because I was eating on the run. So here I go. It cost too much for it to lack flavor. This place just casually served me up some 10/10 Haitian style salmon with rice and plantains. Shout out Bill for hooking it up. I walked in 20 minutes before closing and they still served me nicely and graciously! this place is is so hospitable and friendly and I can't wait to try the rest of their menu. I've been meaning to try this place for a while. Ordered fresh carrot juice and the kale caesar. The carrot juice had the yummy creamy flavor it gets when good carrots are used. I love to being able to get healthy options and support Black owned businesses in the neighborhood so i didn't hesitate to step in, but was greeted very poorly. The vibe didn't feel welcoming and the staff seemed unhappy to be there. I ordered a Turkey bacon BLT and my boyfriend had the Kreyol chicken sandwich. The Kreyol sandwich looked like the chicken came out of a can and the turkey sandwich was as dried as the greetings.The food came out at a reasonable time. As we exited the establishment we left the staff with a delightful goodbye( catching bees with honey not vinegar,lol) and have a great day only to get no response.That left a bitter taste in our months being that we stepped inside only to support black businesses. I love this place, extremely cozy, great food and the best chai lattes in the city!!!! However, every time, I am greeted with a slight attitude by somebody behind the counter! Started off with a generous helping of chocolate chip banana bread and shared a classic crepe (nutella, banana, strawberry and powdered sugar) with my friends. The jackfruit crepe surprised me the most-since I couldn't believe it was not chicken. It tasted just like it. Definitely going to come back for more! Finally, on my way out I grabbed a perfectly flaky beef patty for later. Then there were the drinks. I highly recommend the breakfast smoothie- made with iced coffee, dates and some other deliciousness. They also have a chai latte with kava that my friend loved. I ordered a custom smoothie this morning via GrubHub. It was literally the worse smoothie I've ever tasted, and I get this combination every day. First of all, the color was off. Not a vibrant green-blueish I am used. I barely tasted anything else except for clustered bits of plant protein powder, which wasn't blended properly. Something in the smoothie (maybe the plant protein or the rolled oats) tasted expired. When GrubHub called the restaurant for a refund, they only offered $6. Mind you, I paid almost $14 plus tax and delivery costs which came up to $20. A $6 refund out of $20? I ended up going back and forth with customer support, and closed my account as a result. Bad is bad. I can't let this one slide. UPDATE: Thank you Cassandre for agreeing to give me a full refund. To clarify, when I spoke with GrubHub, they told me they contacted the store and spoke with an employee who spoke with the manager (I presume it was Cassandre since she said she was there). Apparently it was the manager who decided on the $6 refund. So I should have gotten a full refund when the manager was initially contacted; not after posting a review on Yelp. Secondly, if the manager was present during the making of the smoothie and tasted it before it was delivered, then why did it taste so bad? And why was that mentioned in response? And yes, it tasted BAD. I couldn't taste anything else but congealed protein powder and something else (maybe the dates, I'm grasping!) tasted OLD. Right now as I write, I'm drinking another smoothie from another place with WORSE reviews on this site and the SAME combo of ingredients and it tastes GREAT. Meaning, all ingredients are together blended well and nothing tastes old. I've seen this before: owners and managers posting replies to bad reviews on behalf of their establishments literally gaslighting customers by saying things like "the food was of utmost quality, I made sure of it, but since *you* didn't like it & insist via this review, I will give you a full refund out of the dearest kindness dripping from me, my heart." Lol. I don't even think these folks should post replies because it kinda looks like they're stalking their own Yelp page so its image/brand *never* looks bad, which is fair, I get it, it's your baby, and it still looks bad to readers and potential customers. And! if they do, they should at least be truthful. Mistakes are part of what makes us human. More often than not, the customer is right (holding space for potential bold-faced exaggerators lol). Meaning within their subjective experience and taste buds etc, they're right. And isn't that what the customer is paying for? An experience they've had many times before (albeit at other places) with consistency met, and even improvement: gratification; thus repeated many times again, at the same place, becoming a regular customer and the owner is happy because it increases profits? I've worked customer service jobs for many years. That's a "brutality" of capitalism store owners need to accept. read more

Really cool black owned spot located in Crown Heights! This cafe is subtle and comfy and has a vibe that will take you straight from Crown Heights directly to the islands! I finally visited this cafe after walking by it for a few months and I am so glad I took a leap of faith! I had the Lakou Delight smoothie and a bagel and cream cheese, listed as the best bagel in Crown Heights, and it was! The smoothie was incredibly smooth and had a burst of mint flavor which is undeniably delicious and the bagel lived up to the hype! They also have a loyalty card that gets you a prize after 9 visits! A friend invited me to cowork at Lakou a while ago and I was incredibly happy to finally find a black owned cafe with consistently strong wifi, vegan food options, and good music. SOLD. I try to come here as often as possible, even just to take food home. Their spinach patties are some of the best veggie patties I've ever had and they always sell out. They really should consider making way more than the meat patties, which always seem to be left. The space is really relaxing and aesthetically pleasing and everyone who works here is really chill. I happened to pass this place by and convinced my French roommate to swing by and give it a try. We came back and were wowed by the crepes, which she claimed were the best she's had in NY. We've had the coconut curry with chickpeas and the eggs fromage with turkey bacon, but the best is the PB&G. It's a Haitian peanut butter crepe, which is not actually spicy, just a hint of spice that really pops in your mouth when paired with the ginger jam. It's topped with bananas and pecans and it's simply delightful. It's the kind of meal you'll consume, and then find yourself daydreaming one random day because there's nothing else that compares to it. So happy this place opened! The crepes are amazing. I like the ginger PBJ crepe and the lox crepe, but don't order if in a rush, as they can take some time. One of a few spots I can get a nice coffee around my neighborhood. It is a bit pricy for the area. I tried the classic Crepe this time and it was delicious. It had a generous amount of bananas and strawberries filling. They left the banana completely peeled which might cause browning quickly. To keep the banana they use fresh it might be better to cut the unpeeled banana in half and use it for each order. This is just my two cent for the cook.
