It's about a 20 minute drive from Idyllwild to this small, artificial lake off the 243 highway. An Adventure Pass is required for parking, so you can stop at the San Jacinto Ranger Station in town and purchase one for $5 before heading out. At half a mile, it's a quick trek around the lake and generally flat. There are restrooms and a sturdy wooden dock where we saw a few people fishing. According to the signage, the lake is stocked with fish at various times throughout the year. I recommend this location if you're looking to enjoy some times outdoors without a two hour hike involved. read more

Cute little area. Pay attention or you will zoom right by it. Going up the mountain, main parking on your right and walk across a very busy road at a curve. You need to cross over to where the lake and actual picnic tables & built in bbqs are available (bring charcoal and not sure if "High Fire" danger signs restrict ability to BBQ. If you do, make certain your coals are not hot when you leave) I found this Lake in online fb scrolling on a friend's page. It looked pretty and quiet. The drive from Norco took a little over an hour. It is a narrow, winding, mountain road so be prepared. We parked in "picnic area" parking to the right yet didn't see any picnic tables, BBQ nor portopotties so we ventured across the street ever so carefully. The parking lot was getting very busy just as we arrived at 1045am on a Sunday.. Families in mini vans, single gentlemen with fishing poles, couples curled up in various areas on the trails on blankets or at the picnic tables. Noticed a family spraying one another heavily for mosquitos. There are a LOT of bugs here in August. The water was murky with algea bloom. Very typical for late August in southern california. So many gnats it was difficult to enjoy our picnic lunch. Swimming is not allowed. You could get very ill. We didn't explore many trails. Small area but very pretty. I would like to come back armed with insect repellant, an umbrella, a blanket and fixings for a lazy afternoon of bbqing :) It was worth the drive and I LOVE the smells up in the forest. What a beautiful little lake in the mountains of San Jacinto, Ca near Idyllwild. While on a weekend trip we stopped by here to take a walk around the lake and have a snack at the picnic tables. Yes, it's a small lake but it's very pretty. There are a good number of picnic tables and two sets of restrooms of dubious cleanliness. You can also fish here and, apparently, swim. We saw a few people dive in from the large rock which you can't miss. It's probably a 15 minute walk around and there's one atea, farthest from the parking lot which isn't paved and you'll have to do a little balancing to avoid getting wet. The parking lot directly across the street is good-sized and you'll need a $5 adventure pass to park there. We got ours at the ranger station but they seemed to have a little machine in the lot for parking. Worth a visit! read more

The lake is super low! Not very clean. Supposedly they stock the water w fish, but prob not good to eat anything you catch. I hve yet to catch anything, or even get a bit on my line. The dumpster is overflowing with trash, n it's locked on top of it. So there's no where to throw away trash. Plus u gotta get a adventure pass or sumthing like tht to even fish here, idk! Very cute little lake on the way to Idyllwild! When we went (July 18th 2023) there was some construction which blocked off the restrooms and some of the trail. There are a few picnic tables and benches around the lake and we saw several people fishing on the banks. There is no swimming or boating allowed so it's mostly just a place to stop for a bit to enjoy the view. Parking lot is directly across the street but there are a couple handicap accessible spots right at the entrance. read more

Beautiful little lake right off of the highway nestled next to the UC James Nature Reserve. Fishing can get really busy on the weekends. Everyone seemed to be going for bass, the people that fish here are always really nice and help each other out. It has great little bbq picnic areas that all have awesome views of the little lake, great place for a family bbq. Wow, Lake Fulmor. Way to enter my soul and leave me spellbound hours later! I searched some things to do in Idyllwild, since our stay was only a couple of hours long and I've been here a handful of times to have seen and done most there is to do. Lake Fulmor came up. We did not purchase the wilderness parking pass you're supposed to, so we lucked out. We parked across the street and did a quick walk around the lake, which took us about 20 minutes. A lovely stroll seeing birds, a bridge, ducks, magestic trees, a coyote, reeds, boulders, and fishermen. A quick stop for a hike around this small lake. You can park across the street and walk to this park/lake. Perfect if you have smaller ones that aren't quite ready for a real hike but need a good leg stretching. Many aquatic birds are easily seen and there are plenty of trees and rocks to check out including a huge boulder that's right over the lake. This is a pretty nice little pond for being immediately off of the highway and so easily accessible, and also doubling as a picnic area. PROS: easily accessible. you do have to quickly cross the street with one portion of the highway being a sort of a blind turn, but you can usually hear the cars before you hear them. also i saw i believe three handicap spots on the side of the street with the lake. clean. not a ton of trash around relative to the amount of pressure/traffic this gets. we saw one ranger-type person collecting trash as well as a few volunteers with trash bags so it it is kept quite clean. fishing. there are fish! my friends and i went on a saturday afternoon and sunday morning in mid September and hooked up amongst us one large rainbow trout, 2-3 bluegill, and maybe 6-7 small bass. the bass were maybe 5-6 inches but it was still fun, and the rainbow must've been a holdover from a season or two prior because it was pretty big and pretty random as it was out of season. CONS: noise. it's just off of the highway so depending on where you are, you can hear a bit of traffic, and because it's a canyon-type and it's surrounded by picnic areas, sound travels very easily and you can hear someone across the lake as clearly as if they were standing right next to you. low water. this is a bit of a shame because you can see where the water used to be relative to where it is now and like most of california, has really suffered through the droughts. there is a bridge/pier thing on the far end of the pond that is no longer over the water but maybe 10-15 feet away from it, and the cattails and reeds/weeds have made some of the shoreline access inaccessible. bathrooms. i didn't go myself, but two of my friends did and said they were gnarly. overall, a pretty little pond, a nice place for a picnic and some gorgeous scenic photos and if you're into it, decent fishing! read more

The lake isn't good for swimming, which is unfortunate because it would have been a great place to cool off for the day. I didn't use the bathrooms because of previous reviews, but one of my friends went in and then came back out. I suggest going to the bathroom before you head out to the lake! There was a wedding happening there on the day we visited and it was set up beautifully and the cowboy/western theme was adorable and with the lake in the backdrop, I thought it was a great location for such an occasion. Pro tip: Park across the street in the parking lot labeled for Lake Fulmor rather than driving up the dirt road alongside the lake. Your car will get locked in and it will be a challenge to find someone to unlock the gate to let you out. (I might know this because of personal experience.) read more

I don't know what is happening to Lake Fulmor but it was disgusting. The lake is turning brown and has a bad smell to it, more prominent in some spots than others. The concrete picnic tables were vandalized with spray paint and graffiti. The visitor bathroom was absolutely the most disgusting experience in any public bathroom I've ever experienced, and I've been to even the heavily-attended Coachella music festivals. The smell was absolutely wretchedly nauseating and the chemical toilet was a live hive of buzzing flies and insects. When I came out, I gave my little boy permission to find a tree to pee on. this little lake is such a hidden gem. perfect for a quiet walk & some peace. came here for a walk with my dog and she absolutely loved exploring the trails. its definitely a winding road but the views on the way up are beautiful and that alone is worth the trip. the parking is across the road, but its not an inconvenience at all. i think a trip here atleast ONCE is a must! read more
