Haven't gone camping in a while and I'd say this was a pretty nice introduction back to it! We stayed from Friday night to Sunday afternoon and booked 2 campsites and it was pretty spacious for us (for 7 people we could've done with just fine with 1). They have a shower and restrooms which was very nice and convenient: pretty clean when we first arrived but over the course of the weekend one of the toilets got clogged and some people would really take their time in the SINGLE COMMUNAL shower. There's a lake nearby with jet ski rentals a lots of families playing in the water which is really nice. I do agree with the other reviews that people don't really follow the nighttime curfew here. We heard people singing karaoke and being loud. Overall we had a nice experience! Despite the downsides we still had a fun time. I would consider coming back here if I were to go camping again. read more

Subject: Formal Complaint Regarding Management and Conditions at Lake Perris Campground To: California Department of Parks and Recreation Superintendent John Rowe Inland Empire District Superintendent Kelly Elliott Dear Superintendent Rowe, Superintendent Elliott, and the California Department of Parks and Recreation, I am writing to file a formal complaint regarding my recent experience at Lake Perris Campground. The numerous issues we encountered demonstrate a lack of proper management, poor customer service, and unacceptable campground conditions. Upon our arrival, Joselyn Ortiz, who identified herself as the campground manager, informed us that our campsite reservation had been canceled. We never received any notification of the cancellation by email, phone, or mail. Furthermore, no documentation or proof of a refund or reimbursement was provided. This situation caused unnecessary stress and inconvenience after we had already traveled to the campground. In addition, the campground appeared to be overbooked and poorly managed. Throughout our stay, we experienced the following issues: Campgrounds appeared overcrowded, with campsites placed extremely close together, leaving little to no privacy. Excessive noise from loud parties continued without intervention. Park staff and rangers were not visibly present to enforce campground rules or maintain order. Dogs barked continuously, disturbing campers. Children were left unattended and entered other campers' sites without supervision. Restrooms were dirty and not maintained to an acceptable standard. Trash was scattered along the shoreline and beach areas, creating an unsanitary environment and negatively impacting the natural beauty of the park. Wildlife, including mice, raccoons, and squirrels, repeatedly accessed campers' food due to poor wildlife management. Flying cockroaches were present around the campground. Large numbers of bees were concentrated near the shoreline trees, creating potential safety concerns for visitors, especially those with allergies. These conditions did not meet the standards that visitors should reasonably expect from a California State Park. We paid for a safe, clean, and enjoyable camping experience but instead encountered poor management, inadequate maintenance, and insufficient enforcement of campground regulations. read more

Perris Lake sucks, #1 camping is like sleeping in a parking lot noise all night and MICE and RATS can't forget the skunks in the camp sites. #2 The lake ramps suck the docks will mess up your boat. It's a hard to get on and off lake. Fishing there, WHAT FISH, TO FIND OUT THEY DON'T STOCK THE LAKE. they depend on Silverwood Lake. Silverwood lake feeds Perris Lake water and fish. Only stayed one night,I then took my boat to Silverwood Lake and had a great time. Easy to get on and off and lots of great fishing. The campground very clean and quiet. Can't forget shade lots of trees. Rangers and park employees are very helpful and friendly too. read more

Nice for speed boating and fishing boats too. They actually have a rental shops where you can rent motor boats, fishing boats and paddle boats as well as electric bicycles. Nice beach area especially if you living this area and don't want to drive all the way to the beach. Their picnic areas are also great. Nice grass and good picnic tables that are shaded can provide a nice time out here. It's a little far from me to come out here myself on my own, but if there is a picnic gathering with friends I would definitely become. read more

I'm just going to review this place because I only come here for spartan races. You would think coming here in January would be really really cold. To be honest it is not. Usually it's pretty warm. When the obstacles force us to run in the lake, the water always feels refreshing. This place can a hold a lot of people especially for such a big even such as spartan race. Navigating here is pretty easy. I seen people go boating, or even canoes. I like coming here, i have good memories here. I haven't come here other than spartan race, but I would visit here to visit. Lake perris is a great location if you want to come and get away from your daily stresses and enjoy the nature. I come here with my dad to go fishing and relax. They have areas you can bike ride and you can even bring your boat here to enjoys if you like canoeing, paddle boarding or even just hanging out in a tube in the water. I've seen it all! I've only come on week days and it's pretty dead which I like because it's almost as if I have the whole place to myself, I just happen to be sharing it with 3 or 4 other groups of people max . This is our local lake. We really enjoy coming here. It gets pretty packed on the weekend so make sure to go early to get a nice spot. I like to go on the weekdays. There is plenty of parking and swimming areas. There is a lot of tables, bbq areas and shady areas as well. A lot of people go, boating and fishing here as well. Perfect place to have a picnic and take a quick dip in the water. Water is nice and cold and it's pretty clean. Don't forget to wear your life jacket. read more

As I love the prettiness of the Lake and enjoy my camping staycation, not overly fond of the people who frequent the recreational areas of it. It's sad that camping is an all out loud musical festival... late into the night hours... after the curfew. Not to mention the loud unruly children who have no camping etiquette. Running into anyone's camp, touching things that don't belong to them and running off to tell mommy you scolded them. The riding Of electric bikes and scooters so fast and with no situational awareness is mind blowing. And is there no helmet rules??? And the pot smell so strong, The lake... hmmm what can I say...;The filth left on the beach after a busy day is disgusting, Dirty diapers, soiled undies, tampons, pads, dog poop. Entrance fees have nearly doubled and the senior discount is quite pathetic! Senior citizens should be receiving higher discounts! Shame on you Lake Perris Council members! In addition, bathrooms should be better tended to especially given the higher fees. Regardless, we still had a reasonable time and space. We had a great first time here! Our friends invited us out here for lake and boat day! I couldn't resist the chance at my son experiencing something I could never do since we don't own a boat lol he had a blast tubing! He was lightly flung a few times but it only made him more brave. Gosh! Scary kids! As long as they have their life jacket on. The people here are nice, I didn't see anyone doing anything dangerous. Everyone did their safety protocols and warnings.. if you're new, you need to have a flag to let everyone know there's someone in the water. You need to be aware of your surroundings at all times! There's a sheriff that drives around and checks on people which is reassuring. Didn't come across any drunkies and saw no fights. It was a peaceful day at the lake and we had a ton of fun. It was scary and I feel like my heart rate never went below 150 the whole time on the boat but I survived. Such a mom. Lol amazing time, thanks to our friends for hosting us! read more

I came here for SSBD and camp out for the festival. Watching the sunrise here was so magical. It's very easy to find a lot that you're staying in. I didn't know this place existed and it's so cool. How much area it has. Especially coming here to swim in the lake. Will definitely come here again to camp with my friends. read more

Love this lake. Specially the off season or during the week. Good fishing and kayaking. You can load and unload your kayak off shore instead of backing up on a boat ramp which is a big plus. Lots of walking, running or cycling done around the lake. It gets busy in the summer time wish people would respect nature and take their trash out. Lake does get algae bloom in summer as lakes do, so don't accidentally drink the water. Also the rangers are very helpful, shoutout to Hunter and Ranger! Also make sure you wear your life jackets, it can save your life! I'm sure you've heard of the drownings that could be mostly avoidable. read more

Pros: Jesus was present cause multiple people were getting baptized in the swim area. Swim area is nice, a bit crammed, but tolerable. Nice lake views. Local. Cons: no rangers in sight, poor wifi signal, crammed next to each other camp sites, extremely loud playing music with loud bass playing from the time a group of 40 or so people showed up. They were loud till about 3:45am, then back up at 7:00am being loud. Music repeated 3 days in a row. Due to this and a few other things kind of felt like we were just cohabitating with people we would probably not associate with due to the lack of multiple considerations. Also I paid for a travel trailer plus 2 cars. Only a place for my trailer & truck, no place to park for the 2nd vehicle to park. Also some people across were using our electricity without permission 3 times in one day. Eventually they stopped. We made the best of it, but wish it would of been a better experience. Not sure if we will come back here again to camp, specially if we want serene. I was only about to sleep about 3 hours each night due to the blaring loud bass speakers with no rangers in sight .The same crowd parked in multiple unassigned, unreserved camping spots so whenever a paid camper showed up it was a spectacle just to find the owners of the 2-3 cars that were taking the spots, unreal..!! read more

A great trail for a run. I did a Spartan Super with my coach and we had so much fun even do it was 44 degrees and it was raining. But was very well organized. I enjoy the lake so relaxing while running. Great views of the mountains. Will definitely come back to go for a long run. read more

We went on a summer Monday for ((My Daughter))'s birthday and had a great time. Sucks that you could only have a inner tube with you dawn a life jacket. The lifeguard let us know and he was super cool, friendly, and approachable about it. My only complaint is that it needs to be a little cleaner. We went on a Monday, following a summer weekend. There was debris in the picnic area, the grass, and a little bit on the shore. The dumpsters were overfilled. A suggestion would be to have the garbage trucks come more frequently than whatever their schedule currently is and also hire volunteers or employees to pick up the extra trash throughout the park, especially following a busy weekend. Nonetheless, it was a beautiful lake and great times were had. Thank you for honoring the veterans pass to forgo the $20 per vehicle parking fee. It pays to be a veteran! read more

This lake is full of litter. The grounds are very "unkept." The staff at the entrance gate are really nice. The cops there are super anal and are looking for any reason to harass you. Be careful of the speed limit change from 35 to 55 to 35 real quick! Also the people that go there are super ghetto and leave all their trash for others to pick up. I used to frequent this place and loved it for a while. Now, after having many negative experiences there I will never go back. Go to Silverwood lake or the beach. Avoid this place at all costs. Barely any shade, trash all over including in the water, the water was being tested as my kids were already swimming which didn't make me feel very comfortable, huge fire ants everywhere, even bees close to the water as my kid stepped on one and got stung, also people drive straight onto the sand with their vehicles and campers taking up so much space. But, this is close enough for when you don't want to drive all the way to the beach, the water was not too cold, no waves so nice for the kids, $10 for parking whether you stay 10 minutes or 10 hours, multiple lots/parking to choose from. read more

This place is so close! I didn't realize lake perris is pretty cool. They have camping. Bon fire, or day use for boats and other water crafts. You can go and spend the day riding bikes, or grilling. We took some poke and told scary stores on Friday the 13th, super cool scene for scary stories in the dark. It was nice cool breeze and we put our feet in the water. It was nice. Came back in 2024 -- wasn't too impressed. Came back in 2025, feels like a whole different lake. Clean, friendly staff, and lots of space. Perfect for a small getaway, camping trip, or a day at the lake. To my surprise, the water was actually clean. IMO, lakes in SoCal -- especially the ones that are "swimmable" -- I'll usually pass. As far as the state park and they use, I think this is a great place to picnic because you have wonderful views of the water. If you have some waiters you could fish, but I don't think it's great fishing from the shore. If you want to RV camp do not go on coyote loop. It was really far from the water. There was no view whatsoever and unfortunately the spots were extremely tight and I felt like I was in a parking lot. I loved exploring outside of the state park and learning about the area, but as far as coming back each night to our RV site, I was not very happy at this park. I think it's a great day use facility or if you're on another camping loop than the one we were on, you may have a view of the water. Without a view of the water, it's definitely not worth it for me. read more

This place is usually really beautiful. One of our favorite spots. On our visit yesterday, wow. The sheer amount of garbage on the beach was actually disgusting. We couldnt find a clear spot of beach that didn't have old balloons, beer bottle caps, old napkins and clothes. It really looked like a trash dump. It was pretty incredible to watch whole families bury their trash in the sand or just leave it when they were done. Like a restaurant? Like there was someone who would come around and clean up after them. We stayed for a shirt bit and after a family let their kid throw a handful of paper napkins into the water, we left. I guess its fun for others to let their kids swim in garbage? Lifeguards are great, very safe. Its usually a nice place, but I would go at your own risk. Wear shoes. read more

For some reason lots of gang members come here. I only know this because they talk loudly about it mentioning which gangs are on the lake and which side. Dirty bathrooms with no soap and dirty toilets. Dirty beaches with broken playgrounds. They have some new rule that single cars cannot park in the main parking lot. So, even though we were meeting my brother with a boat we had to park off site and walk with 3 little kids and an ice chest. To top it off when we got off the boat they would not let my husband come back in to pick up me my 3 small kids with our ice chest. I had to walk across the entire parking lot with my 3 kids in 90+ degree heat because our cell service doesn't work here either to meet up. It wasn't safe. Hope someone can see this and change the rules. Horrible experience for a family. read more

The whole campground felt like a music festival with large speakers blasting banda music and gas generators running til 3AM. I've been camping here since I was a kid and its really sad to see what this place has become. The campsites are filthy. We had dirty diapers along with trash everywhere. Spent an hour and a half cleaning the site before we could set up. The bathrooms are disgusting even on a weekday. No soap in dispensers, over flowed toilets, no TP, just gross. I watched park staff go to the bathroom 2-3 times and never even attempted to clean or address the issues. Loud mariachi music and inappropriate rap music was blaring until 3am so no one could sleep. Worst camping experiance ever. We went to the lake and were told we couldn't use our inflatable tubes without lifejackets and the life guard was super rude about it blowing his whistle running down the beach like it was a life or death emergency. I love this lake! People boating, fishing alone or with family, walking , biking, bird watching, horses trotting, squirrels being squirrels I even seen a Barn Owl besides vultures and RED Hawks. DONT FORGET TO VISIT THE CAHUILLA INDIAN MUSEUM before you leave. read more

I had the opportunity to spend 4 days 3 nights camping in this state park for the Starbase Festival with Slander. We were able to secure a place with our own entrance for campers & VIP. It was so much fun bc we could walk right to the main stage or the beach for the lineup. It also made it easy to listen from your camping site. There are showers there available and they had portable shower station as well. The VIP section had it's own gated area right at the main stage to watch all the big names performing. The only thing that was a bit frustrating was that you had to pay for an additional vehicle to bring stuff in and they couldn't go to the site. They should have drop off passes vs additional parking. But there was plenty of security and grounds people constantly cleaning the grounds and walking around checking on folks. Its a really beautiful property and should be better each performance. read more

Lake Perris has its pros and cons. Pros - it's one of the most beautiful parks in this part of CA. It has giant beaches and very large swimming areas with lifeguards. There are a lot of RV sites. Cons - was here during the "summer" season in 2023 and kayaked out to circle the island, but there were so many boats and jet skis flying around it was frightening. Then on the way back from the island an out of control jet ski headed right at me but turned at the last second and its wake completely flooded and submerged by kayak, so I had to swim back to the main shore for 45 mins while pushing a submerged kayak. No one bothered to help and the life guards just ignored me - most likely because I was not part of their area of concern. Bottom line - the lake is insanely busy with watercraft in the summer. So, we decided to come back this year in the off season to try it again when it was quieter. The good part is the lake is very peaceful in Feb and you can kayak all day in safety. The bad part is that they are very short staffed. We stayed in the Deer Loop (aka Owl Loop) and the bathrooms were never cleaned the entire week we were there. They were disgusting with feces splattered on nearly every toilet and toilet paper all over the floors. Also, there is no soap dispensers in any bathroom. The showers are hit/miss on whether they work and based on the garbage inside them it was obvious they hadn't been cleaned in weeks. I asked the volunteer staff at the gatehouse who the camp hosts were for the Deer Loop and they said there weren't any and probably won't be until summer. Wow. None of this is necessary as volunteer camp hosts are always looking for campgrounds to stay at. Their job is to keep the bathrooms cleaned and stocked and pick up the garbage around the grounds, all in exchange for only a free campsite. It doesn't make any sense that CA SRA doesn't bring in 2 hosts for each loop in the off season when it costs them literally nothing except a little electricity and water, and 2 sites out of dozens. Bottom line. If you're self sufficient with your own bathroom and shower the off season is the right time to come here. If you are planning to use their facilities then don't expect a good experience. read more

The water at the lake was beautiful however the other campers are extremely inconsiderate they blasted music until 2am and when I called the ranger they didn't show up until the next morning ... it was extremely ghetto to say the least I've done many campsites but have never dealt with ppl not respecting the quiet hours and since we are morning ppl it really was unenjoyable that we couldn't get any sleep so solely on that we will not be returning DO BETTER ON ENFORCING THE RULES ! read more

This place was wild today... every ounce of shoreline taken by boats or swimmers... this has been my local lake my whole life and I've never seen it like today... absolutely packed. Insane amounts of traffic on the water... 75% PWCs with children driving and generally un educated boaters on the water... I wouldn't have put my kid out on tube behind the boat today... that's for sure...the weekdays are beautiful and way less crowded.. read more

Best local place to have recreational fun! All the bad reviews are from people who do not plan ahead or do not even bother to look up Lake Perris Social Media for updated news and information. Lake Perris is QUAGGA-MUSSEL FREE. All watercraft gets inspected so probably best if you clean and DRY your crafts before showing up. Especially if you're coming from bodies of water with the invasive species like Lake Havasu and Lake Elsinore. During the week the park is calm and open. During the summer weekends expect higher traffic, more people, and long lines. $10 to enter but $20 on this summer weekends. Park does reach full capacity on those busy and hot weather weekends. As a local resident and consistent visitor just know this park is great but not perfect. Just do your part and do your own research, follow the park on IG, and be respectful.
