We rent from here every time we make our snowboarding trip to Big Bear. Easy to use website to reserve from home. Quick and easy pick up process. And all their workers are so friendly, always making small talk with you and helping you get to know your board and equipments. This year we need to extend our rental an extra day and that was painless as well. When you come back to return, just drop off outside and show them your paperwork, it's a very quick process. My boyfriend and I rented a kayak from this place on July 26 around 3pm. We didn't have a reservation but they were able to squeeze us in, but if I were coming back on the weekends or a busier time I think I would try to make a reservation because they seemed busy. We got a tandem kayak and it was so convenient to just be able to walk over to Boulder Bay Park and start kayaking. The woman who helped us rent them at the front desk also kindly reminded us to bring sunscreen and water, and even refilled my water bottle for me. Thanks a ton for a great time! There are two Getboards locations in Big Bear, this one is the self launch location while the other one is at the dock. Opted for this location as the other location was completely out of SUPs, and the experience was awesome! Had to fill out the waiver form and pay before you can pick up the rental. The guys working here are cool and took the time to explain the rules before cutting us loose. The launch site is probably 100 feet from the shop, so it wasn't too bad of a walk and getting the SUPs and kayak launched was fairly easy. You do need to navigate your way out of the fairly shallow water (due to low water level at this lake) and abundance of seaweed before you can get to the deeper end of the lake. Overall, had a lot of fun kayaking for two hours at this lake and would certainly come back again! Don't forget to take 10% off the rental rate by checking in to Yelp! read more

Rented gear last-min + showed up w/ like 2.5 hrs to party for my boys' 10 yo-bdays, w/ my 6 yo & partner in tow. Fig'd it'd be exhausting/more for the kids. HOT DAMN WAS I WRONG. Not only did the staff FULLY celebrate the boys, but they genuinely were stoked for them; they taught us how to paddleboard & kayak (never did it b4), showed us a sweet waterfall, and just hung w/ us + chatted when they could (it wasn't a super busy day, somehow--thx, universe.) When they saw how happy we were--which is hard when you have 3 kids + 2 adults who are fried--heard the kids giggling, and saw me having a MF moment w/ God on the lake, they let us use our stuff until the *very last min they were allowed to*. These guys didn't just kick it with us, and help us, they gave us MF LOVE. It felt like they were family. THEY WERE HAPPY TO SEE US HAPPY. I'm not kidding. And come on--who doesn't want to go home immediately after their shift? Billy, Nathan, Matthew, Robert, Mike, Jed, and Julian--that's who. These people are just awesome, period. Like, good-hearted, kind people who LEGIT WANT YOU to have the it's-your-kid's-bday-so-go-LIVE-YOUR-DAMN-LIFE experience. Came for the kid-happy, stayed for the staff-vibe/experience & friendship. If I could make these guys a full Chilean dinner and a giant chocolate cake, I would do it in a heartbeat. Cuz that's how you treat people like this. I will never forget this experience because of the STAFF. Who could have guessed THAT? It's been *a REALLY hard year* for me. I thought paddleboarding would be exhausting & I'd be over it fast but I've never vibed so hard in my 40 yrs; But the staff -specifically Billy, Nathan, Matthew, Robert, Mike, Jed, and Julian-the location, the business gave me 2+ hrs where it ALL went away. I laughed w/ them like I did with my late gma. My 6 yo played with a ducky family. My boys learned how to lake it up bc of the crew. I've never heard them "WHOAAAAA, AWESOME!!!" so much. TL;DR: -U can rent stuff all over BB but GO HERE bc the staff is better than people I've worked w/ @ Google & MAJOR tech co's. -Kayaking & paddleboarding rules. GO HERE tho bc the juju is level 10. Better than any other vendor I've seen, literally anywhere. And I've worked in multi-million$$ event planning globally for over 20 yrs. -WHOEVER IS HIRING THESE PEOPLE needs to start working for the US gov. & fix climate change. We stayed near boulder bay this weekend and rented both kayaks and paddle boards from here. The service was great and my kids had such a great time kayaking. I was even able to take my 2 yr old out with me, they just scooted his seat a little closer to me. You do have to haul the kayaks down to the lake yourself but they had wheels under them so we didn't have any trouble walking them down. Would definitely go back here again! read more

Went here on weekend vacation a few weeks ago and it was amazing. Our Lodging gave us coupons for a discount to go Kayaking and the staff were super friendly here. I was worried about getting tipped because I had my Husky with me and end up leaving my wallet in the car so the guy allowed me to borrow the Dry Box with no fee. Very nice of him 100%. The guys who were at the loading dock helping out were great as well. All very friendly and great first impression for my first trip to Big Bear Lake. This place is great if you beat the rush! Best time to go was before noon, in the water within 20 minutes of walking through the door. Great prices for tandem kayaks. Went with a party of 7 and they had plenty of gear for us. They also rent waterproof cases and lanyards for your keys and phones. The kayaks come on a nifty wheel device so you can walk them down to the launch site a few hundred feet away at boulder bay. The launch site is steep so mind your step. read more

My family and I came here for vacation. We were really excited to be able to do something different with my 10 yr old. The staff was very friendly.. however, to get down to the cove you have to walk around a park area to bring the kayaks down to the cove yourself. After that little work out we finally got all of us out to the water.. the water was nice, however, there were SO many sand spots, we only had a very very small area we could kayak without getting stuck and not being able to go past certain areas. We were never told to be careful of certain areas nor that we would be restricted to a very very small part of the cove. We paid for 2 hours and had to come back less then an hour of being out. We weren't offered part of our money back, not even a "we will let the manager know". Although we had a little fun for a short short time, it definitely wasn't worth it for us. The only reason I gave 2 stars was because the staff was friendly. read more

Quality of boards they rent are subpar. We were unable to adjust one of the paddles they gave us. Launch site was horribly maintained and too small to manage the amount of people they were renting to. I paddle all over CA and this was by far the worst outfitter I have ever used. read more

At first we were just going to try out one single but it was such an awesome idea and they had such good pricing we opted for 2 doubles! They give great 2 hour rental rates and great service! I'm not sure if the previous reviews are for the Boulder Park location... I came here after going to the wrong location on Knickerbocker. The girls there was super nice & helpful. Parking was not so great. Small lot, busy street. The Boulder location has parking in front and in the parking lot on the side. The girl behind the counter was nice but didn't really give us much info. Considering this place is self launch and the water level is super low, some warning would've been nice. Luckily the girl on the phone mentioned it, so it wasn't completely unexpected. What they don't mention is you have to wheel your kayak or in my case, paddle board, down a dirt hill into the murky bay. The water is so low right now, it's muddy and pretty difficult to maneuver through for almost a mile as you make your way through the bay to the lake. They give you a 15 minute grace period on your rental time which seemed nice before we launched but not so great after taking almost 30 minutes to get from the shop into the actual lake past various shallow points in which my board got stuck in the lake floor. That's how low it was, people. The lake itself was beautiful & it's a great place to kayak & paddle. The shop sells small dry box's for $4, perfect your phones & keys. The guys who helped with the boards were nice but lacking. After struggling through the low water and mud then wheeling our boards up the sandy hill, he mentioned we were supposed to wheel the boards to the shop front but he'd take care of it. The least they could do is get the boards from you, in my opinion. The place was dead compared to the other shops and i can see why. 1. The water level 2. The launching area sucks--Having employees help you would make it much better. If I didn't have a Groupon, I would've been pissed. I should've realized what I was in for when a girl was talking about how horrible it was. This place has potential. The employees were nice, just a little lazy. They need to give adequate warning about what you're getting into. I saw some pretty young kids & older people struggling. read more

Awesome experience in Big Bear! We signed up at the store and then got our ticket to pick up our tandem kayak down by the lake - make sure you go to the store first. They ran through everything quickly and got us out on the water in our life vests and (for only $4) a waterproof box for our phones etc, which I highly recommend. We were out on the lake for two hours in the later afternoon, and it was super fun and beautiful. Definitely go here when you're in Big Bear! read more
