Stay on the trail! There are a few paths down to the lake took
    Maggie M.

I called Paddles and Pedals in the morning to inquire about a same day bike rental. They confirmed they had availability and we made our way over. Our party was one adult and two kids. The bikes they brought out were the perfect size for each person in our group and they provided helmets. It was about $16/hour for the bike rental. Upon arrival we were helped immediately. From arrival, to waiver signature, and getting on bikes took about 10 minutes. You will need an ID as they hold it until you return with payment. The location is on the north shore and it is easy to find. There was plenty of parking and it's right next to an RV Park with a little liquor store in case you forgot anything. If you didn't bring a drink, pick one up as I did not see any water fountains or bottle fillers on the bike path. The paved bike path is right across the road and it is easy enough. There are some hills, not bad, but not completely flat. You can always walk the bike up if needed. You can ride all the way down the north shore which is mostly undeveloped and absolutely beautiful. We packed a backpack with sandwiches and stopped along the way at picnic tables to eat lunch. Keep in mind for you, your kids, and pets, that it's a little harder to exercise/breathe at high altitudes. There are a few benches to stop and rest as well as a few paths down to the lake. The trail is shared with other bikers, walkers, runners, and a few folks walking dogs. Everyone we encountered was respectful. I knocked one star down because I thought $100+ for one adult and two kid bike rentals for less than 2 hours was a little steep. However, we loved our time on the bike path. The exercise was great and the north shore is beautiful. The trees and lake took our breath away. We will return soon.

Excellent service and equipment. Easy transaction and had a great time peddling around the lake with the fam!

My family and I were looking for a triple kayak on the lake. This was the only one I found on the north shore. It was a 20 minute drive from our cabin and well worth it. We fit comfortably in the kayak going around the lake for one hour. We had a fun time and would highly recommend. The staff are friendly, helpful and courteous.

We came to Big Bear Lake in mid-September for a weekend getaway, and the weather was beautiful! So it was the perfect opportunity to go to Paddles and Pedals to rent some bikes and peddleboats. They are located on the north side of Big Bear which is a plus, in my opinion. The south side of Big Bear is very touristy with all the cabins, hotels, downtown area, and nightlife. North side is less developed and much quieter. They are easy to find and located next to the Observatory (another cool place to check out). We wanted to go peddle boating in the lake, but the salesperson told us that it was pretty windy. I appreciated the honesty because I don't think that most businesses would tell you this piece of information because it will dissuade people from using their business. However, Paddles and Pedals had so many different rental options that it's hard not to find something to do! Instead of peddle boating, we rented bikes instead and rode around the lake. The scenery was absolutely breathtaking (see photos). The bike trail is pretty flat (some small inclines) so bikers of all ages can enjoy themselves. The trail takes you close to the edge of the water and you can watch people fish/kayak/boat as you ride. They have helmets available but we decided not to get them because the bike trail does not require you to ride on the main road. Very safe path! If you check-in you get a 10% discount! Our final bill came out to be $9/hour for each bike (normally $10/hr).

Rented our daughter an electric bike so she could keep up with dad.

Went on the super easy web site and rented two electric bikes. Got there and the guy was really friendly and had them ready to go. Bikes were in great shape, good price and the weather was amazing! Love that trail up there. We will be back and do the kayaks for sure

The town is bike friendly and we avoided so much traffic and hassle getting around town for shopping, meals, and exploring. We had a basket on one bike, bungee chord on one, and my backpack made it easy for us to do most shopping we needed for the week without using the car. We reserved our bikes well ahead of our visit to ensure we'd have what we needed. We selected GetBoards because they offered overnight pricing and a range of bikes to meet our needs. We reserved two cruiser style bikes for around-town use but I upgraded to an adventure style bike since it was more comfortable for me to ride. I'm 6', my wife is 5'3", and we were both very comfortable on our bikes. The prices were fair and competitive. We know this because we shopped around before reserving. There was a modest, discounted overnight fee, but with our multi-day rental discount e bikes were an affordable addition to our stay. Matthew helped me when I picked up the bikes and he was friendly, informative, and super patient given it was our first time using e bikes. He ensured I knew how to use the bikes, checked that the headlights were working on both bikes, and set us up with helmets, locks, and chargers before sending us off. We will most definitely rent e bikes from GetBoards the next time we're here. I highly recommend GetBoards for top notch customer service, excellent and well maintained bikes, and a range of rental options to meet any needs (including bikes with kid seats, trailers for children or pets, baskets, and more).

The employee Katelyn, who appeared to be the manager, was consistently rude and dismissive toward multiple customers and coworkers, including myself who is here on vacation. Being placed in a management position requires more than simply having a title. It requires professionalism, communication, patience, and the ability to treat both customers and employees with respect. Based on what I witnessed, I found the management at this location to be extremely disappointing and, frankly, incompetent. I also feel for the employees who have to work around this behavior. No employee should feel like they have to walk on eggshells around their manager just to get through their workday. That is not a healthy or productive work environment, and it ultimately affects the entire business. I strongly believe the owners and upper management need to seriously evaluate whether this person is capable of being in a leadership role. If this behavior is typical, I would strongly recommend that management consider demoting her or removing her from the establishment altogether. Keeping an incompetent and hostile manager in charge can drive away both customers and good employees, which could have possibly already begun a while ago. I've always had great experiences at the Boulder Bay location. Thank you to Sly, the other girl and all the helpful guys outside today. The staff there genuinely seem to care, listen to customers, and go out of their way to help us make new memories, whether that means recommending hiking trails or helping with our plans. That is what good customer service looks like and they need to be recognized by the upper management for how they turned my bad experience into a great one. It's unfortunate that one location can leave such a negative impression when the company clearly has employees who know how to provide a great experience who should get a chance to lead. I hope the owners and management take this feedback seriously before poor leadership and incompetence end up costing them loyal customers and hardworking employees, but from the looks of it, it might already had begun. AI said Scotty's was known for its friendly and helpful staff, and specifically a good place for families newer to boarding and renting outside of the local resorts. It's not our *first* rodeo, but it was the first time we ventured away from renting onsite at the resort. To be honest, I was a little intimidated at the thought of renting at a "board shop", imagining being surrounded by intermediate and expert-level boarders both at and behind the counter, impatient with this mom and her relative-noob 10-year-old son. Well, it could have been worse I guess, but my fear was confirmed. We walked in around 8ish Friday night to rent for the next day. Zero other customers in the store. The lead clerk was engrossed watching something on his phone and looked up with a scowl. The tone of his "How can we help you?" was agitated, as though we knocked on his apartment front door at 11 PM asking for a cup of sugar. Once I said we were there for a board rental for the next day, he groaned and without eye contact, he droned rote orders to start the rental process. His tone down-shifted from agitated to condescending, as though I was a petulant child who had already disobeyed his commands the first round. Now I was pissed so the smile left my face and I dropped my cheerful tone. I was grateful when his colleague took over the next step; he smiled at us and chatted us up but unfortunately, it was back to muppet-hair (yes--this was his defining physical feature) for the rest of the process. By this time, another couple walked in and he might have realized he was being a jerk to me because he bucked up back into a passable professional tone and demeanor to greet them. Maybe it's because my son is a tween, but the remainder of this dude's spiel was back to a condescending and rude tone--again like we were 5 and stupid. He even made a point to shame us for choosing Snow Valley, explaining it was really because he would NOT be coming "all the way" to SV if there was an issue with the board my son could not fix over the phone or FaceTime. Not the family- and beginner-friendly vibes I was promised by reviews. To be fair, the clerk who answered the phone when I first called Scotty's a few weeks back (definitely a different guy--different voice) *was* super friendly and gracious! Where was that guy that night? My son had noticed the grouchy and condescending tone as well, commenting on it once we were safely back in my car. And when it came time to return the rental, he said, "I hope it's not that same guy." I assured him it most likely wasn't because now it was two days later and a different time of day. Wishful thinking; it was the same clerk! He was about as friendly as that previous Friday night but at least this time we were prepared for it. The board itself--just the basic package--was pretty nice and newer, that part lived up to expectations as advertised. It was so nice that my son's Snow Valley snowboard instructor commented on how sick it was which made my son beam and me feel like I did right by him. But all the local board shops offer this for around the same exact price, so the difference is customer service as far as I can tell. I have a feeling this guy was the exception to the rule at Scotty's--just bad luck we got him, I guess. But enough where I'm not gonna roll the dice on this shop again anytime soon.
