Quick and easy rental store. My girlfriend rented the paddleboard for two hours at $39 which is very reasonable. The store employees are very kind and helpful. They sell sandals, hats, sunglasses, blankets, etc. all the items you will need to be comfy during your adventure. I recommend this place!

We had the chance to kayak while at Boulder Bay. We opted for a 11 am launch time so we could find parking in the lot since it get pretty packed and people were getting tickets parking on the street in the no parking zone. Reservations were easy to make and you pay when you check in. Check in was quick. Staff went over the instructions, gave us our life jackets and we walked to the lake to self launch. It took a few minutes to walk over. We left our kayak wheels on the shore next to our shoes and hopped in and spent two hours on the lake. There were plenty of boats on the lake so waters were choppy and it was windy. We definitely got wet on our excursion. The lake is cold. I don't know how people can swim in that cold water. We returned to find our shoes in the same spot but someone took our wheels and switched it with their broken ones. Don't forget your sunscreen. I put plenty on every exposed part except the top of my feet apparently and ended up with a nice sunburn. The kids said kayaking was the highlight of the trip! Will do this again next time!

My husband has been coming here since he was a child. So like, over 30 years? Never had any issues so he continues to come here every time we go to Big Bear. I finally had the chance to go inside this year because my kids were [tears] now old enough to try skiing so we all came to rent our gear here, including for myself. The staff were all very chill and helpful. We really enjoyed talking to them! We came on a mid-week evening and morning so they weren't nearly as busy as it would be on Fridays through Sundays, so maybe that's why we were able to appreciate these awesome people who man the rentals. We rented skiis, helmets, and snow clothes for everyone except my husband who already owns his own clothes from his high school days. I now have an idea what kind of skiing outfit I would want to purchase for myself but it was great to have the option to rent inexpensively for my first real skiing experience. It was a no brainer to rent our kids clothes because we usually only come once a year and kids keep growing out of their clothes. Looking forward to renting gear from here for many more years to come. Thank you!

Rented ski equipment here for a weekend trip. Loved that they were open quite late until 9:30 PM on Friday night so we could pick up our equipment the night before. Online reservation is seamless - reserve in advance to save time in the store! Prices were good and appreciated the extra 10% coupon on the website. Equipment was relatively recent and in good condition too. The staff were very knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful, and seemed to enjoy their jobs. They also have two locations a block from each other.

My son and I have purchased hats from this location before but yesterday we took the whole family kayaking on the lake. Rented 2 double kayaks (included kayaks, life jackets, paddles, and got a waterproof lockbox for my phone/wallet for an extra $4). $102 for 2 hours. The private dock is just across the street with plenty of parking as well. We had a blast. It was pretty windy as it can be this time of year on the lake but if you've kayaked or canoed before, no big deal. You could also choose to stay inside the large cover but we took them out into the open water. It was warm, 70ish air temp, and the water was nice and cool from all the snow melt and recent winter temps. Kids had a great time together which is always a win and I got a good arm/back workout with all the paddling LOL! My daughter said we definitely have to do it again so it was worth every penny!

Awesome service at GET BOARDS! They delivered and picked up boards for us to use at our cabin rental and carried them down to the lake for us! We had the boards all weekend and needed to extend our stay a couple of hours and they let us hang on to the board an extra hour to get in one last paddle before we left! Easy online reservations and online waivers to streamline the rental process. Great service! Friendly staff!! Highly recommend!

Some of our group having fun!

We rented paddle boards and kayaks for 2-3 hours for our group of about 90. Kailyn was great and helped us out a lot! Everything went well and fun was had by all! Great experience all around! Well done, Kailyn! Thank you!

Pretty disappointed with our board and equipment rental experience at Scotty's Ride Shop, and like…read moremost experiences, it was the people that made all the difference. AI said Scotty's was known for its friendly and helpful staff, and specifically a good place for families newer to boarding and renting outside of the local resorts. It's not our *first* rodeo, but it was the first time we ventured away from renting onsite at the resort. To be honest, I was a little intimidated at the thought of renting at a "board shop", imagining being surrounded by intermediate and expert-level boarders both at and behind the counter, impatient with this mom and her relative-noob 10-year-old son. Well, it could have been worse I guess, but my fear was confirmed. We walked in around 8ish Friday night to rent for the next day. Zero other customers in the store. The lead clerk was engrossed watching something on his phone and looked up with a scowl. The tone of his "How can we help you?" was agitated, as though we knocked on his apartment front door at 11 PM asking for a cup of sugar. Once I said we were there for a board rental for the next day, he groaned and without eye contact, he droned rote orders to start the rental process. His tone down-shifted from agitated to condescending, as though I was a petulant child who had already disobeyed his commands the first round. Now I was pissed so the smile left my face and I dropped my cheerful tone. I was grateful when his colleague took over the next step; he smiled at us and chatted us up but unfortunately, it was back to muppet-hair (yes--this was his defining physical feature) for the rest of the process. By this time, another couple walked in and he might have realized he was being a jerk to me because he bucked up back into a passable professional tone and demeanor to greet them. Maybe it's because my son is a tween, but the remainder of this dude's spiel was back to a condescending and rude tone--again like we were 5 and stupid. He even made a point to shame us for choosing Snow Valley, explaining it was really because he would NOT be coming "all the way" to SV if there was an issue with the board my son could not fix over the phone or FaceTime. Not the family- and beginner-friendly vibes I was promised by reviews. To be fair, the clerk who answered the phone when I first called Scotty's a few weeks back (definitely a different guy--different voice) *was* super friendly and gracious! Where was that guy that night? My son had noticed the grouchy and condescending tone as well, commenting on it once we were safely back in my car. And when it came time to return the rental, he said, "I hope it's not that same guy." I assured him it most likely wasn't because now it was two days later and a different time of day. Wishful thinking; it was the same clerk! He was about as friendly as that previous Friday night but at least this time we were prepared for it. The board itself--just the basic package--was pretty nice and newer, that part lived up to expectations as advertised. It was so nice that my son's Snow Valley snowboard instructor commented on how sick it was which made my son beam and me feel like I did right by him. But all the local board shops offer this for around the same exact price, so the difference is customer service as far as I can tell. I have a feeling this guy was the exception to the rule at Scotty's--just bad luck we got him, I guess. But enough where I'm not gonna roll the dice on this shop again anytime soon.

Now let's begin, Check-in was fine, but things quickly went downhill. We were initially 3rd in line for the ski demo 'expert'. He seemed to be quite knowledgable to his credit and took his time with each customer. However, despite us waiting patiently, he started having people who arrived much later, cut in front of us. We somehow go from 3rd in line to being 16th. We stayed patient up until this point, until he got a little too excited with this younger girl behind us. This was the final straw. This is when I finally spoke up that we've been waiting a long time and needed to be taken care of first, when he got extremely salty. At this point his mood had shifted quite drastically. He starts by saying I notice you put 'Intermediate' as your ski level. For context, I was on the Mammoth Ski Team for 2 years when I was much younger. That being said, I hadn't skied in a few years by then and grew a few inches so I didn't remember my exact ski height. Continuing throughout our conversation, he says "Oh if you were an intermediate skier, you'd be able to know what your ski height is." Then proceeds to say this 3 more times throughout our interaction. The ski boot fitting station wasn't that helpful either as he had given me an ill-fitting boot that had a massive divot by the toe section. I proceed to hand it back and ask for him to get me a new pair after explaining the situation. And he blankly looks at me and asks if I need a new pair. This store was very disorderly and condescending. As an Asian customer, I feel like preferential treatment was given to others. This was not my interaction with Dustin (the owner that responds to these Yelp comments), but one of his employees.
