My friend bought a Micro Telescopic Pocket Combo fishing pole from Big Bear Sporting Goods today. We brought the pole to the lake, followed the directions and the pole functioned very poorly. The pole wouldn't cast correctly and we lost the three little sinkers in the process. When my friend tried to return the pole they wouldn't accept it because it was missing the sinkers. The manager was extremely rude. There's no way I will ever shop there after how disrespectful the manager treated my friend and wouldn't let him return the pole. read more

Should not have spent our money here, we were sold a shotty fishing pole. we saved the receipt on our fishing pole in case we wanted to exchange/upgrade it. After the pole actually turned out to malfunction, it ruined the birthday fishing trip we had planned for family visiting us in town. We were told by the staff we could return it as long as we had the packaging. When we brought it back with the box and the receipt, the manager declined the original agreement to refund/exchange at all, argued with my partner about not wanting to take it back - that we would be ripping him off- and thought it was appropriate to call him 'entitled'. read more

This is such a great sporting goods store! My boys and I were stuck up in the snow after a large storm, and I had to purchase chains for a vehicle I wasn't very familiar with. I called beforehand and spoke with a very kind man, who verified that they had the chains to fit my tire size. When I went in to purchase, the staff (two gentlemen and a woman), were so rad! The woman who rang my purchase up was so sweet! We chatted for a bit, and she offered to have one of the men give me a tutorial on how to put the chains on (as I was very unfamiliar with that type of system). They encouraged me to come back in the summer and I looked around the store to realize that they have just about anything you could need. We will be back to fish this summer. A true one stop shop!! Went to big bear for a quick weekend trip to go fishing with my son and stopped into Big Bear Sporting Goods to pick up some items. Got to talking with Cody (I think that was his name) and he was so helpful in demonstrating the exact setup we needed and told us what spot on the lake to go to. When we went we did exactly what he said to do and we were catching fish when nobody else was. The next day we went back to show him the pics of our fish but was told by Billy he was working in another location. Billy went out of his way to go above and beyond his normal work duties to assist us in what to do next. I can't say enough about this store and their employees. I forgot my hiking shoes and was in Big Bear for a night but only had my vans so was in need of a pair that would be great for walking in snow/ice and hiking. I stopped by Big Bear Sporting Goods after going to two other shops. Second shop was super nice and helpful and recommended Big Bear Sporting goods for the hiking shoes I was looking for. Im so happy they did! As soon as I walked in they greeted me and asked me if they can help me find something. The sales associate quickly pointed out multiple shoes that would work for me. I tried two pairs on of the three he recommended and I was out the door within 5-10 minutes with two pairs of shoes without slipping and sliding in the snow! This weekend, my friends and I decided to go for some outdoorsy type fun at Big Bear. There was one thing that I knew I had to do while I was out there and that was fishing! Not knowing the area very well and if we could just rent materials for fishing, we did a simple search and found Big Bear Sporting Goods. Located right on the corner of Big Bear Blvd and Big Bear Blvd. (yes it really is on the corner with these cross sections lol), it was really convenient to find. We walked in and were immediately greeted. Stephen immediately approached us and asked us what we needed. We told him we just wanted to fish! And he quickly ran through all the items we needed, bought our fishing license there, recommended where we could go and sent us on our way (Total was about $35 for the license, rental fee, and materials). Following his direction, we posted up our fishing spot and low and behold, I CAUGHT MY FIRST TROUT EVER! I think that was seriously the highlight of my trip and I have never been so proud of myself for reeling in a hefty trout! He put up a good fight! Stephen's store has just about everything that you need for fishing. The icing on the cake is that the customer service here is simply amazing. We rented our gear later in the afternoon and even though Stephen said that we could return it at noon the next day, we were still able to make it back before closing and high-fived me for my catch :) Thanks so much for the efficient and friendly service! All the staff was patient, suggested replacing line, how to add hooks, weights, etc. The staff did IT ALL! Showed us how to use the poles, cast the line and what bait to use depending on the fish.
