First of all, e bikes were a game changer for us during our week in Big Bear. It was SO fun to pedal or just zip around, and the bikes from getboards are really easy to use! The town is bike friendly and we avoided so much traffic and hassle getting around town for shopping, meals, and exploring. We had a basket on one bike, bungee chord on one, and my backpack made it easy for us to do most shopping we needed for the week without using the car. We reserved our bikes well ahead of our visit to ensure we'd have what we needed. We selected GetBoards because they offered overnight pricing and a range of bikes to meet our needs. We reserved two cruiser style bikes for around-town use but I upgraded to an adventure style bike since it was more comfortable for me to ride. I'm 6', my wife is 5'3", and we were both very comfortable on our bikes. The prices were fair and competitive. We know this because we shopped around before reserving. There was a modest, discounted overnight fee, but with our multi-day rental discount e bikes were an affordable addition to our stay. Matthew helped me when I picked up the bikes and he was friendly, informative, and super patient given it was our first time using e bikes. He ensured I knew how to use the bikes, checked that the headlights were working on both bikes, and set us up with helmets, locks, and chargers before sending us off. Visiting Big Bear on a holiday weekend, thought it might be nice to rent a 2-person kayak. Found this place online, and was so impressed with friendly staff! We checked in with two young clerks to rent our kayak, and were helped at the dock by Anthony. "Dry box" rental was a smart move, as we had a dog on board (perhaps the only stressful part of the voyage!). We ended up passing the dock on our return, and still had wi-fi on the lake. In terms of condition/quality of the ski's and boot's...they're rentals, so they met expectations. I rent from here everytime I head to big bear. We don't go boarding enough to own our own gear. This place is the probably the most affordable place in big bear and it's the most convenient. Gear is all in great shape and they really have the process down so you can get in and out to start heading to the mountains. They offer slope service in case anything ever happens to your equipment when you are on the mountain for $2. I highly doubt many people use it but it's nice that they offer it. I gave the Getboards one block down the street 5 stars back then. It is still by far the cheapest place to rent your gear after the Yelp check-in discount (15% back then, now only 10%). I paid $23.59 after the Yelp discount for boots and snowboard. The rating is due to the lack of professionalism and lack of service. First of all none of the computers worked. While getting my board the guy was either still asleep or just not paying attention. He asked me right or left foot. After I told him regular, he asked me again 5 seconds later and said: "Ohh yea sorry, I just asked you right". Maybe he was high. And he asked me if I wanted a helmet I said no. Then he gave me a helmet. When I paid I told them I didn't want a helmet so they took it back At the check out it seemed like the lady and the guy didn't really know what they were doing. It took forever to get my credit card and my ID back. And no there was nobody around besides my friends and me. It was not busy. Go back to sleep or be ready for your customers. It's either or. It felt like this place was filled with teenage working high school student who didn't gave a shit. read more

They have a system down!! My son and 10 of his friends came here for rentals! Yes, you read that right.. a total of 11 kids in and out of there quick! They even have an option to reserve gear ahead of time AND we can pick up the night before for no extra charge. That way on the day of boarding, you just focus on having fun and don't have to worry about picking up rentals. They have awesome affordable packages to choose from. Our group went with the beginner package that includes a board and boots and we added a helmet for a small extra charge. Returning gear was a breeze too! I went to the 40977 location. The staff was amazing!!! Every single person in there assisted me (I needed a lot of help lol). They helped me pick out the helmet I wanted in my price range. I'm a beginner skier and wanted to buy skis, and they gave me advice on that. I'm going in for a custom shoe fitting tomorrow. Best service I've experienced at a ski shop. They also have a $2 insurance where if there's a malfunction with the skiis they'll meet you on the slopes to exchange, which is inexpensive and convenient.
