The only positive about this shop are the dog that roams around, and the reasonable pricing. I stumbled upon this shop through a few Reddit recommendations. of this place. Now let's begin, Check-in was fine, but things quickly went downhill. We were initially 3rd in line for the ski demo 'expert'. He seemed to be quite knowledgable to his credit and took his time with each customer. However, despite us waiting patiently, he started having people who arrived much later, cut in front of us. We somehow go from 3rd in line to being 16th. We stayed patient up until this point, until he got a little too excited with this younger girl behind us. This was the final straw. This is when I finally spoke up that we've been waiting a long time and needed to be taken care of first, when he got extremely salty. At this point his mood had shifted quite drastically. He starts by saying I notice you put 'Intermediate' as your ski level. For context, I was on the Mammoth Ski Team for 2 years when I was much younger. That being said, I hadn't skied in a few years by then and grew a few inches so I didn't remember my exact ski height. Continuing throughout our conversation, he says "Oh if you were an intermediate skier, you'd be able to know what your ski height is." Then proceeds to say this 3 more times throughout our interaction. The ski boot fitting station wasn't that helpful either as he had given me an ill-fitting boot that had a massive divot by the toe section. I proceed to hand it back and ask for him to get me a new pair after explaining the situation. And he blankly looks at me and asks if I need a new pair. This store was very disorderly and condescending. As an Asian customer, I feel like preferential treatment was given to others. This was not my interaction with Dustin (the owner that responds to these Yelp comments), but one of his employees. read more

Stopped here to check out snowboard boots just for sizing and came out with an incredible experience. I'm a beginner snowboarder and wasn't sure what I was looking for and my boyfriend is intermediate. Jeff helped both of us out with allowing us to try on many different boot styles and sizes. We did not feel rushed or pressured at all. He was very knowledgeable about all the boots and was very efficient in getting our boots all during a rush. We went to another store the day prior and my boyfriend had gotten boots there that were the wrong size due to not much help and knowledge from the workers. He ended buying boots here feeling great and with more knowledge after Jeff helped me AND they even cost less ! Grateful for a family owned store with great employees. Probably the best store ive been to in terms of customer service. The employees are knowledgeable snowboarders who love the sport. They sold me and my buddy each a pair of Solomon boots, recommended to me after I just couldn't find a responsive pair of boots that fit my wide feet. It was perfect and comfortable. Reserved my rental online and everything was good to go on day of pick up. The staff was helpful and friendly. I was in and out of the shop in 15 minutes with fitting included. Return was even easier. Staff fitted us carefully to ensure we would have a great time. Rental much more reasonably priced than at the slopes. Everything went super amazing at Blauer!! Not only were the employees educated but also so kind and assuring. As a seasoned skier I didn't need a lot of help picking out my rentals but my friend, who is new to the sport needed some help and education and the team there was incredibly respectful and helpful throughout the whole process. Additionally, they had us in and out in a matter of 10 minutes both picking up and dropping off. The skis and boots themselves were great quality!! Blauer Ski & Board is hands down the best rental spot in Big Bear. I was seriously impressed by how fast they moved us through the line while still being friendly and thorough. On top of that, the prices were amazing ($37 per person for all the gear & Insurance) I honestly couldn't believe the value we got. The staff is amazing across the board--from the woman checking us in, to the tech setting up the boards. They were especially great with my two kids, making sure their boots fit perfectly by asking them the right questions. Special thanks to Chuck, who went above and beyond by helping me carry the equipment to my car when he saw my hands were full with the kids' gear. He was there at the end of the day when I returned everything and I was out in 10 minutes. It's hard to find customer service like this anymore combined with such great rates. Had a bad experience at this shop due to an employee with noticeable acne who clearly doesn't understand customer service. Instead of being helpful, he was rude, dismissive, and had a lot to say--but none of it was useful. Seemed more interested in mouthing off than actually doing his job. I don't expect over-the-top service, but basic respect should be a given. If this is the kind of employee they keep around, I'd rather take my business elsewhere. Hopefully, management takes a closer look at how their staff treats paying customers. read more

Great Store and Staff. When I arrived at night, I found the wrong entrance, and was politely guided by staff to enter from the right entrance. Pickup was smooth and quick. Staff warmly helped me picking up the right equipment, as it was my first time skiing, this was really great for me. I went up to Bear mountain on one of the few days they got snow this year and on my second run one of my boa laces ripped. The repair shop on the mountain couldn't fix it so they sent me to Blauer's. Everyone there was very friendly and helpful. I asked them to replace the laces on both the boots to the steel braided laces and grabbed a pair of their performance rental boots to finish my day of riding, even though they said it wouldn't take longer than 30min to an hour. I was impatient and the snow was good. When I came back to return the rentals they had my boots all fixed up and ready to go. Would definitely recommend them if you need a repair. The performance boots were good and way cheaper than the standard boots you will find on the mountain. Looked like they had a good selection of merchandise as well but I didn't do much shopping to be honest. read more

We have owned our house in Big Bear for7 years... We have a cottage on the property that we rent as well. In that timeframe I have both frequented Blauer as well as sent numerous cottage guests in. Every person with whom I've come into contact epitomizes the ideal team member. We have rented, purchased, and serviced equipment. I've asked the silliest questions, needed some absurd assistance, and even called them, mistaking them for a different kayak rental shop near our house.... and each time without a doubt, the team member patiently, kindly, and professionally helped out. Blauer has a range of products that allows the one-time user to buy something reasonably priced or purchase a higher end product to last years. All in all I'm incredibly grateful. Need rentals? Snow problem for the team at Blauer. This is the only place we really go to for rentals whenever we are heading up to ski at Bear/Snow Summit. Do yourself a favor and reserve your gear online, especially during any busy long weekends/holiday breaks. They will have your rentals set aside and you will get out much quicker. They deal a lot with paper vs. electronic, so they will write your credit card number down for the deposit and then hand you back the slip when you return the rentals. The team there- top notch; always super friendly and quick to get people in/out. read more

Knowledgeable sales reps and an enormous selection of boots! Alex was the most knowledgeable sales representative out of all the board shops we went to in Bear. We were looking for new snowboard boots for my pre teen daughter. Fitting a child for boots can be tricky. We tried on boots from every manufacturer at every shop on the mountain. As my daughter has progressed from intermediate to advanced this season, we were looking to purchase boots that will preform to her advancing skill level. My daughter found some boots she really liked, the Salomon IVY BOA SJ BOA. We decided to sleep on the matter, but by the time we had arrived home my daughter was adamant that those boots were the right ones. Since Blauer hosts all of their inventory on their website, my daughter was able to ask her grandmother to purchase the boots as a birthday present, and we picked them up the next day on our way to Bear Mountain. Alex was by far, above and beyond, the most thorough and knowledgeable of all the shop representatives we spoke with over the course of the season. I also took the opportunity to try on a few pairs of boots that no other shop in Bear was carrying. I believe Blauer has the best selection of boots in town. If I were recommending a boot shop to someone visiting town, I would recommend Blauer over their competitors, especially the shops at the resort. The resorts did not offer the large selection that Blauer stocks and Blauer has most of the models their competitors stock for direct comparison. Now I regret buying the new boots I bought at the end of this season because I found ones at Blauer that I like more. The ones I like more are calling me from Blauer's stock room right now as I type this. I'll be back! But for now we're NEW BOOT GOOFING and couldn't be more satisfied. read more

This place is great; we only rent from here cause the people are so nice, and their options are great. They frequently get rid of older items, so you don't have anything completely busted. Most of their boots are newer, which is nice! You have the slightly broken-in but not old boots that are so nice to ride in for both snowboarders and skiers. Best price in the area for sure! The service is quick and thorough. I recommend taking advantage of the day before pickup. The mornings are insanely busy, especially if it snows! My family and I recently visited your store and had an overall pleasant experience with most of the staff, who were friendly and helpful. However, I encountered an issue with one particular staff member who was not respectful. This individual had white hair and tattoos. The other nice staff were helping the rest of my family with giving instructions on how to put the gear on, while this individual was behind the counter, and kept asking if we were done trying on our boots, which my sister and I are new to this so it took a while. As an Asian American who speaks and understands English very well, I found it frustrating when this staff member talked to me very slowly as if I couldn't understand. He was repeating himself, using hand gestures pointing. Speaking for my family, he was looking at us differently. It is a broad thing to say but this had a particular feeling of not "fitting in." When I asked questions, he was not cooperative and seemed to give me a hard time. For example, I handed him a slip of paper that clearly indicated I was renting snowboard boots and a helmet. He asked if I needed the helmet, and when I said yes, he responded with "ok so no helmet." I had to clarify multiple times that I did indeed need the helmet. He continued to go saying, "I need the paper" when he had the paper on the counter. It was not a complicated service to do but he made it very complicated. Additionally, when I asked if he could double-check our items, he states that he's been working here for years, that he never does that, and doesn't have the time to do it, despite us being the first customers in line with only a small group behind us he kept rushing us. He did double check because I had to insist twice as a person who's never been snow boarding before and not familiar with this type of stuff. His attitude and the way he spoke to my sister and I, as if we didn't understand, was very impolite. For myself, I never really consider including my race. I never write reviews, but this one had a reason. I hope that this individual hasn't done this with any other people. read more

I love that Blauer's is open at 7AM, well before the lifts start running at Summit. This is a solid ski and board shop if you're looking to rent or purchase some gear. Reasonable prices, friendly service, and a huge selection of clothing and accessories if you need it. They also have a Yelp check-in deal for rentals if you'd like a small discount. Because this place is so awesome, they can get pretty busy. The parking lot is reasonably sized, their bathroom is typically clean, and the store is well organized. Also, proper mask-wearing in these covid times is inconsistent in the area, so if you're traveling from a place that strictly enforces mask policy, just be aware. Overall, this is the only ski and board shop I'll go to in the area! Definitely stop by in person or online and give them your business. read more

From the perspective of a beginner, this is a very solid shop with good rentals and friendly service! It was really easy doing the paperwork in getting the entire package and the prices are decent ($30 for beginner snowboard package for the board, binding, and boots). They're very patient and walk you through the basics of using the gear if you're new to the sport or just forgot since it's been a while. My board looked pretty new, bindings worked well, the shoe seemed a little old since they hurt my toes but it was still very functional. I think maybe I'd rather get another pair of boots to try on for next time. I also rented a helmet ($10/day) and it definitely did his job. I have an oddly shaped head but their helmet was quite comfortable! I didn't realize there was a yelp check-in offer on rental prices so I forgot to use them but I would stop by this place again in the future! (Might I add at the time of this writing...nobody wears masks since the entire city of big bear doesn't. I come from LA and it was pretty shocking that virtually nobody wears masks so it is definitely not just this store. So that's why I'm not taking down any stars since I think this is a big bear local policy) read more
