At the local Big Bear Big 5 (alliteration there), you can find whatever you need to ski, run, swim, jump, ball (soccer, tennis, golf, pickleball, football, etc). It's a glorious display of sporting goods that delights anyone who likes to move their bodies and play fun games (who doesn't?!?). The store itself isn't the most organized or aesthetically appealing, it's a big melting pot of sports all in one place. Seek and find what you're looking for on your own, the staff is great at checking you out and stocking stuff but not entirely helpful at finding things or on the customer service side. No worries though, if you're at big 5 you probably know what you're there for anyway. My family and I ventured into this store for some sweet toddler kicks (shoes), and we left with faces and shoes aglow scoring some awesome spider man and frozen light up sandals! This was the best place to put a Big 5. I seem to be going there every time I'm in big bear. This one has it all. Literally everything you may need while up here. I needed shorts and knew exactly where to go. During winter we needed sleds... to big 5 we went. Hiking boots, pocket warmers... sandals. I've purchased it all here at different times. We still love all the smaller local sporting goods stores, but tend to stop in here at least once per trip for something or other -- float tubes or rafts, water shoes, swimsuits or lake clothes. Came in today and picked out two fishing poles, and Jeff was really helpful. Refreshingly, he didn't try to sell me the most expensive poles, but got some good ones, and Jeff helped me pick out all the tackle - hooks, sinkers, lines, bait, etc. or, you can buy poles w/ all the tackle, too. It wasn't too busy, so the Manager Mauricio was able to spoil the line on, and Jeff put on the tackle. So excited to go catch some trout! read more

Stacy at the check out counter is awesome. She gets 10 stars. But the manager is not helpful. zero stars for the rest of the store. Walked in... looking for a specific item. I asked three people behind the fishing counter area and was told with a tone where they were and she pointed to. I found a display, but I didn't see the chairs. She yelled across the store and said in the center. I think she should've gotten her fat You know what going and walked around and showed me where they were at. Zero customer service for the manager who is supposed to set a good example but instead she set a horrible example and Stacy the checkout lady is doing all the work, answering phones directing customers, checking customers out and the three people behind the counter are doing diddley squat to answer phones or help customers. I am local and have experienced this in the winter and this time I'm writing a bad review because overall they have not been helpful except for Stacy. Who is the checkout lady. This store has very rude customer service. Their dressing rooms are completely filled with storage so there is no way to try on clothes in store. I asked an employee If they had any fitting rooms open and he said "not unless you want to move all these sleds". He could have politely said they were closed?? Then I was trying on a jacket in the store (since there were no fitting rooms) and the same employee said "you can use the mirror over there. But you have to move all those ladders first". Despite no fitting rooms, the only mirror in the store was obstructed by a stack of ladders and he did not offer to help move anything so I could use it. He just told me to move them myself. The customer service here is pretty outstanding. After snowboarding at Big Bear for the first time in my life for a day, I realized on day 2 I was in pretty much desperate need of some knee guards. This place opens up a little before the slopes though, so I wanted to be in and out as quickly as possible. I called, and this store legit not only answered before opening but then also opened their doors 5 minutes early to let me in. From there, they were super helpful: directing and following me to the area, answering questions, and letting me open packages to see if stuff fit right before I paid and left. Overall just the super friendly and courteous people you'd come to expect in a little mountain town. Prices are also very reasonable and much better than buying anything at the ski resorts themselves of course. Final Verdict: I highly suggest supporting this locally owned and operated store run by lovely people! read more

But when I went to go purchase an under armor long sleeve the ladies at the front said it wasn't on sale. I usually don't shop at Big 5 if there's a Turner's Outdoorsman nearby, but there isn't. This location is nice, clean, and organized. Staff is friendly, parking is okay except for when you have snow. Staff isn't really all that knowledge about knives, firearms or ammo. They mostly have young kids working there. Like most Cinco Grandes, it's mostly a shoe and clothing store than it is an actual sporting goods store. But I can't fault them too much. I guess that's what sells nowadays instead of actual sporting goods. Friendly and helpful people, always in stock (even if I have to educate them about what they sell), and the managers always go out of their way. I usually go to Moore's Guns and Ammo, as I'm a local now, but will go to Cinco Grande in a pinch and don't mind because I usually get great service. read more

My husband , daughter and I had to go into Big 5 to grab some gloves for the snow. We were greeted with a warm smile and helpful employees . Especially Bill! He was so helpful. Told us the gloves we were buying would be good for a few hours but not to expect them to last long in the snow because they weren't water proof. With time water was going to soak through . This was helpful because if we were planning on buying gloves for extended periods of time we would have not bought the ones we got and would have purchased another pair. We only needed them for a couple of hours for the snow play we were going to use them for. He was just so nice. He happily stopped what he was doing to let my 4 year old daughter and I use the restroom . I know this doesn't sound like a lot but these days it is! My husband and I Went in to buy some shorts. A new employee helped my husband, he didn't know where anything was, but he was really nice and found out the answers to all of my husbands questions. I asked another employee where the changing rooms were and looked at me like it was the last thing in the world he wanted to do. He took me to the changing room and it had a bunch of clothes inside, he sighed and in the most bored voice ever said I have to clean it first. I have never met a store employee who acted like it was such a chore to do his job. The cashier girl wasn't much better. I went in a few nights ago And was very disappointed on the unfriendly employees,that were working.The costomer service was horrible.The young Mexican girl working as the crashier was very rude and seemed like she didnt want to brother with helping us find the items,my husband and I needed.It seemed like her and the other Mexcian employee,were so focused on each other,in deep flirting conversation they were having between them,rather then help us out.we were not the only costomer's in there at the time and over heard the other costomer's complaing how they were very rude to them,also.Hopefully the management,will retrain the employees on good costomer service. read more
