Yesterday when visiting Big Bear we found Chirp Nature Centers in a pamphlet for shopping. My uncle recently retired and has taken up bird watching as a new hobby and even frequently builds bird houses and even watches documentaries on his favorite bird, the hummingbird. We stopped into Chirp to try and find him a unique gift for his new hobby. The woman running the shop was so kind and helped us find the best shirt along with a "Bird Nerd" cup and a hummingbird pin. We also got a free bird guide for Big Bear so he can check off the birds he spots. He was so thrilled and plans to go back to the shop himself once back up in the area. Thanks Chirp!

The hummingbird feeder I bought, all Hung up and ready for feeding at my home :)

It was our first time visiting Big Bear and U read about this place in the magazine. It was such a wonderful experience!! I enjoyed speaking with Loren, he had so much to share! We purchased a beautiful hummingbird feeder and got so much information about hummingbirds! I even got a hummingbird ring to wear on your finger, they will actually eat from the ring! I loved he even had a hummingbird swing! There was more bird stuff besides hummingbirds, I would definitely stop by here on your visit to Big Bear! They have everything from kids books, toys, coffee mugs, bird feeders, bird baths... and so much more!

Nice Nikon binoculars from Chirp!

My husband and I went into the store hoping they would have binoculars for birdwatching. The man at the counter was so helpful, explaining which binocular would be ideal considering price point, purpose, etc. He wasn't pushy or trying to sell us the most expensive. He genuinely seemed to just want to help us find the best pair for our budget and what we were going to use them for. I feel like I was able to make a very informed decision, and now I'm ready to birdwatch properly with a nice pair of binoculars!

I love this place. I like birds, but some of my friends and family love birds. I got them great gifts there. I learned a few new things too.

The good thing about big bear, it's a couple hours from LA or Palm Springs. A small mountain retreats that does have some special gems here and there. We've been coming for years and it's always a nice little break away from the crazy traffic in the city. Depending on seasons and when you visit, the crowds do make a big difference. We popped in for an overnight stay on Sunday. And I must say, the place was lively. Restaurant open and people out and about around town. Either the families checking out after their weekend stay or taking in the last effect of the mountain. The village itself isn't too big. One main strip that's a couple blocks radius that will lead you down to the marinas waterfront's. You'll have all your tourist mom and pop shops, a few restaurants, cafe, movie theaters, candy shops, a bar and so on. There's a good amount of things to do along the strip. Just heads up, their hours (shops and cafe) seemed to be a bit off when it comes to opening. Early morning trying to find a place opened for coffee and tea was an ordeal. Certain places say they're open but when you get there, nothing. It is nice to walk the strip when no one is there but also sucks when you can't find a place for a morning pick me up...lol... Depending on the season, summer does bring in a lot of family's for the lake. Then you have winter for the mountains and skiing. Spring and autumn brings everyone as well and good with hiking. Regardless when you visit, it's alway a nice place to check out. Just in my opinion, a few days is enough...lol... There's loads of housing options available. Bigger resort chains, timeshare, Airbnb, smaller boutiques, cabins and so on. Loads of places to stay. Also, they're pretty much all not too far from the village. Ski season, I do recommend being near the slopes as it'll be easier to get to. It's a fun little weekend getaway. Mid week is slow and places do close as there's no walking traffic. A nice break from the city.

Some of the shops have their own unique spark, which I really liked. At least not every souvenir shop feels exactly the same, so there's a little more variety when you're browsing around. I also really liked that there were different themed restaurants and dessert shops throughout the area. It was nice to see those little pops of something different instead of everything feeling too similar. Another big plus is that there's plenty of parking, with lots of different parking lots around the area, so we weren't too worried about finding a spot. It was also pretty cool to see a horse-drawn carriage going down the road! It was definitely moving slowly, but it was unexpected and made for a fun little thing to watch while we were walking around.

Value wise is kind of in higher side in compare to other stores...but not a negative point. Every store has its own policy for pricing the items so im just comparing. It's a big store so its fun to explore. The only thing that it was missing was customer service. Two employees were staring to customers and talking to each other without even saying hi or bye. No offering help! It was weird encounter specially that you can find welcoming customer service in Big Bear. The store wasnt busy but it seems the employees were tired.

You get the feeling that they're eyeballing you & all I was doing was browsing and snapping pictures for my review. I didn't buy anything, although the prices were reasonable considering the location. Reading other reviews a lot of other customers were uncomfortable as well. It seems like there are too many stores in Big Bear that obviously have that as an ongoing situation. It's too bad there's so much theft going on or so much distrust. Not sure which but I hope they resolve it. Although I was greeted with a hello, how are you?

We didn't win anything because the claws were weak. It was impossible to win a prize. Even though we were out of luck, it was still entertaining for us. The store had lots of merchandise for purchases such as t-shirts, toys, shot glasses, mugs, and much more. I had bought a cute magnet for my fridge to remember our Big Bear trip. Good store to shop at and we will return on our next visit.
