First time vehicle owner/driver and I want to take care of my car how it's supposed to be. Did a bit of research for a great car service and found this place with great reviews. So took my car and a very simple 3 choice for oil change options. They said it will take 40 minutes or so. Went next door to eat for 15 minutes and came back and it was done! Jeffery is great he takes care of my car and I never have to worry. I come to see him because they are straight and not the crooks that most auto mechanics have a reputation for. They changed my shocks and gave me very good quality parts. Can't complain I get peace of mind when I come here for repairs. Fabulous! I usually go around the corner to get my car inspected but I really dislike that particular shop. Found this place on yelp and was happy with the reviews. The gentleman running the shop is courteous and personable. He told me it would take an hour, and about 30 minutes later I received a text message that my car was ready! So not only are they polite they are fast and efficient and I loved that I received well written text message alerting my that my car was ready. And to top it all off, Its a fairly quiet area of the neighborhood and the shop itself is very clean and professional looking. I will most definitely be coming back in the future and will recommend them to my friends. read more

I used to come to Lai's bcuz of convenience, I work full days most 7 days a week. I was able to pickup my serviced vehicles from the attendant after work after dropping off in the afternoon during what time I could squeeze out. I have come to rely on their service as a primary consult. Other occasions I had many problems other mechanics not finishing my vehicles on time or by the estimated time which would cause me great inconvenience and money to rent my transport. I've had my brakes done here for less than half the price of Star Toyota quoted me for my 50k service. Just got my caliper, pads, and front rotors (I think) replaced cuz my brakes werent releasing right which messed up everything else. Got it $100s (don't miss the plural) less than my friend who had the same service on a smaller vehicle somewhere else. Wires replaced when some kind of small animal chewed thru it during the cold winter for heat and shelter. Many oil changes and a couple new tires. All very fast and at great prices. My friends who know more about cars and servicing attest that even they can't get much better and they known their 'guy' since the guy's father was fixing their family car. Friendly staff, can be busy, but definitely a good choice to make considering honesty, $, time and value. read more

I was looking last year for a place to get my 2016 inspection I read the yelp reviews which were extremely positive but when i spoke to Billy he said he was out of the 2016 stickers. Fast forward 11 months I call and sure enough Billy picked up and told me he had 2017 stickers. I took my morning off work to get the inspection Billy was there to greet me with a warm smile asked for license and registration and told me it would be 10 mins. I saw on the bench on a cooler morning and waited for about 10 mins and Billy comes back and tells me it's done and everything is fine. This is my personal experience and opinion but this place is a keeper. Billy didn't try to pull a fast one on me, i didn't have to negotiate to buy a window wipers to get a pass - none of that BS that i personally have experience with other service stations. My sister found Bill Lai's business via yelp, but yelp being yelp, didn't have much faith in the reliability of reviews. But I was pleasantly surprised. My dad had been recurring issues of engine not starting and suspected of a malfunctioning car alarm as the cause. I called the shop and was able to get a feedback on how soon they'd be able to get a diagnosis after getting the car towed. He initially confirmed my dad's suspicion, and provided the estimate cost of just removing the alarm system entirely, which should take only half hour and that we can get the car back the next morning. As promised, he called me to come pick up the car. Thanks Bill for a very clear communication to let us know what the problem was, the solution thereof and a timeframe it would take to get the job done. Clear communication and accountability are central to customer satisfaction, and he'll be seeing my dad for any future maintenance. After much anxiety of high cost/ unresolved problems, I'm glad to have found Bill. Side Note - my dad used to work at a auto body shop, so he knows cars and can tell apart real deal when it comes to that line of biz. read more

I brought in my Acura TSX for a simple oil change and I assume they know what they are doing. I go home and I notice one or two drops of oil on the ground...no big deal. On my next oil change I went to Lai's again and when I got home I got a steady drip. I watched them in the garage and I knew they tightened everything up. I go online to see find out that Acura's require a disposable copper crush washer in the oil drain pan. I know for a fact that Lai's didn't use one and probably didn't even know about it since they didn't replace it the two times I was there watching their work. Other than that I think they are a pretty good and honest shop. read more

I brought my car in for an oil change and they asked me if I wanted anything to get looked at so I told them about a possible water leak in my car from the sunroof. They took a look for me (they didn't charge me for this) and we found out there was a manufacturer's defect and told me I should bring it in to the dealership because it should be under the warranty. Oil change was much much cheaper than at the dealership and at another local garage and they were able to get it done faster than I expected, given the amount of cars they had lined up for servicing. I originally chose to go to this place because I could go into main street flushing to get some food while they worked on my car. It was really convenient and their mindful service is what will keep me coming back here next time I need anything done. read more

The guy who changed tires told me to how to prevent new ties from being stolen by using anti-theft lug. I was in a pinch and needed my car inspected yesterday. I visited Lai's based on Yelp reviews and was not disappointed. When I first arrived I was initially turned away as they were fully booked and they close early on Saturdays. I shared I had just returned from a business trip and had read positive reviews on Yelp. Bill then came over and offered to do the inspection if I was willing to leave the car and return in 3 hours. Not only did they squeeze me in but did not add any additional repairs as I have experienced in the past! He actually recommended I service my rear brakes soon. In most other service stations they would have "required" I do the brake job. Needless to say, I will be returning to Lai's for all my car service needs in the future. read more

I called a bunch of places in the queens Bronx even Jersey city area for a simple break pad and rotor change. I knew i had warped rotors and i knew i needed new pads. These guys quoted everyone else out of the water. Someone at Goodyear had the audacity to quote me 450 for a break pad and rotor change and proceed to tell me that the quality i get at other places wont measure up (lol what a joke). A few highly reviewed places on yelp wouldn't quote over the phone - if you know the year and model and exactly what is needed, there is zero reason you shouldn't have a quote over the phone. I have friends that are mechanics, a normal breakpad only change costs about 70-120 bucks depending on where you live. Anyone thats quoting you more is ripping you off on labor costs or break pad costs. Anyways, i came in, the guys took a look, knew i was spot on with my assessment, fixed exactly what i asked, told me some little things wrong with suspension, didn't bother over marketing to me (like a lot of other places, and i suspect - those who don't quote over the phone), and then i was done about an hour half later. Good price, no hassles and guys that know what they're doing. Thats all i needed. Anyone in the NYC area needs a good mechanic? These guys come highly recommended. The best part- they probably don't even know what Yelp is, they have five stars for a reason - quality car care for a great price. The end. A+ read more

I was running errands with my friends in Queens, and one of my friends asked about a dent on the bumper of my car (it was there for at least a year), and recommended a car service station nearby to get it fixed. I figured since I was around the neighborhood, I might as well give it a try. When I got there, I was greeted quickly by a friendly mechanic (he was all smiles) and was asked what my car's problem was. After the inspection, he gave me a reasonable price quote. I didn't even wait long and before I knew it, they fixed the dent. When I went to pick up my dad later, he didn't even recognize the car because he was looking for that dent in the back of the bumper. We were both impressed by the job they did. Although I live in Brooklyn, I will definitely make my trip to Queens to this car service station for all my car-fixing needs. Needed to have my driver side low beam bulb replaced and was expecting at least $40 labor from similar shops. They were able to do it on the spot and it was $5. Even gave specific advice about how bulbs should not be more 100W since it tends to burn out the wiring harness (and he then showed me how one my connectors was starting to singe). Definitely check them out if you need any quick work done that the larger corporate shops may charge an arm and a leg for. read more

Yes thank you helpers. Finally found a great auto shop. Never thought this place was good. I went there for a simple oil change just to see how great it was. I also requested to check my suspension because I heard a weird noise. I did the same with star toyota but obviously they didn't check. I just waited for free maintenance to expire so I can go to other shops. Lai did a great job and found the noise and it was the spare tire which was loose. Never thought of that. I am definitely going back for repairs. The service is awesome for auto repair. They even take the time to listen to you. They know how to run a business. Only problem is a bit pricey and they charge you tax even if you pay cash. But hey I'm willing to pay extra if you do the job right And drop off and pick up is 24/7 read more

I took my Toyota van to Lai's Service to put in new spark plugs. Those of you who ownToyota and Lexus cars know that those 3 spark plugs in the back are a PITA to get to. I called Lai's and Jeffrey gave me a reasonable price over the phone. His quote on the spark plugs (Denso) was high so I got them from Amazon. They finished the job on time. They also gave me back the old plugs and showed me their condition. I used to take my car to Issac repair on College Pt. but I have a lot of doubts with their service plus Issac gave me the run around again to go back another day because he's busy. Came here at 830 AM, done at 9:45. Went in for a oil change and yearly inspection. I didn't know what to expect but the guy who took care of me is very nice, professional, and wasn't a salesman. Nothing was wrong with the car, didn't try to sell me an air filter or brakes, although I know others would since I do need one soon. Great place, will come again. read more

I wanted to write a review since the number of reviews understate how good a repair shop this is. I've been coming here for more than 20 years for auto repair and maintenance. These guys are like family. I trust they'd take care of my cars, my children's cars, and don't have to worry when I drive around my grand children. They keep good service records and provide advice for my concerns. I just drop off my cars for oil changes and tell them please fix whatever is needed. If something major comes up, they give me a call and I say take care of it. The prices are very reasonable. They have a computer system with up to date and most of the car manufacturers service manuals to check your car(s) service intervals. The value of service, and quality of work through the years has kept customers like me coming back. It's no secret how they stayed around for so long, putting customers first and being honest. Advice: do not wait for the last few days of the month for your NY car inspection, that is when these guys are the busiest. read more

Like some of the others, I came here after a friend recommended this shop. I had an inspection and oil change, possibly 2 new tires. After the inspection, they said I only needed one tire, and didn't need to waste money for a second. The Mobil 1 oil was cheaper than expected and I'm glad I came early because they got real busy when my car was finished.
