I came here on a friend's recommendation. It's not the closest auto repair place to my house, but I'm willing to travel a little for an honest mechanic (hah! When's the last time you heard those words together?). A little about me: I've had my car for 4.5 years and have yet to break 12,000 miles. My car's in pretty good condition. That being said, I still need to have maintenance done on it every now and then, and my yearly inspection. I didn't want to go somewhere that would tell me I need to replace so-and-so part because my car will fall apart otherwise/not pass inspection/[insert line here]. So, I went to these guys. Friendly, honest, did what they had to do (and fast!). They even reset the oil percentage meter when they changed my oil. The dealership didn't do that when I brought it to them for my first oil change! Little things, but it makes all the difference. I recommended the place to my parents and brother, and they had equally good experiences. It's so nice to know that there's a worry and fuss-free auto repair shop out there. Tip: They do seem to get pretty busy on the weekends, so be prepared for a wait if you come after lunch. Worth it, but still good to keep in mind if coming on weekends. read more

I first went to this shop after asking around in my friends circle; turns out a few of my friends and their families all take their cars here. I'm a driveway mechanic myself but for certain jobs you just need a professional with the right tools. I mention my own experience because I want to highlight that I know my way around a car and have a good idea what it takes to fix things. So please trust me when I say Philip and the shop have always been very honest about what's broken, what needs to be fixed and what doesn't. Gas station is open 24 hours a day and is conveniently located near both the Whitestone Expressway and the Grand Central Parkway. I've pulled in a few times to put some air in the tires and fuel in the tank. These guys are pretty honest and I been going here for years on a regular basis. On the weekdays they are not bad and it is easy to get in for services. On Saturday, it may be a little hard to get a service that may take a while. I wouldn't blame them, it hard to find a honest mechanic. There have been a couple of instances of times I had to leave the car with keys at the drop off guy for a quick diag and service. Service was quick, wlaking distance to Flushing Main Street while you wait. Nothing fancy needed done so they do accept credit card and give you a computer print-out receipt for those of you that need for tax purpose. Not cheaper than where I used to go. They speak Cantonese, some could be Malaysian, just a guess. I hope I won't need major repair but if I do I will bring my car to them. read more

Coming to Lai's Auto Service was one of the best decisions I made with my car issue. They were super professional, super reasonable and took care of the damage with a week considering the work done. When I got my car back it came out like it was off the dealer lot. Even better yet when it was time to pay and pick up the car, the service manager told me they had misquoted me $200 more than the estimate and adjusted it back down. $200! I was happy with the original estimate but even more impressed with the honesty after the fact. I highly recommend their services for your automotive problems or car maintenance needs, this is the place I tell my friends about. I've been to a few service stations in the last year or so but looks like Lai's will be my go to place going forward. The people are extremely nice and will only fix things which requires fixing. Came in to do a NY inspection, oil change, rattling when breaking and a humming noise. They identified the source of the humming noise but said that it was OK and didn't need to be fixed yet. They changed the break rotors (which I was expecting anyway) at a reasonable price. I came in at around 9am on a Saturday and was out 2 hours later. They got themselves a new customer, the manager is cool and knows how to approach his customers. Been coming here for years to get my ancient 2003 MDX serviced. I like how this place lets you bring your own parts and they'll just handle the labor. I highly encourage people do this because you can likely find a better deal on auto parts if you shop around. Labor prices are fair. Would recommend coming when they open at 8am because the shop gets busy fast. This mechanic won't give you any upsells like "you know you really should get blah blah blah fixed as well." Whatever you want done, they will do. No more and no less. I've know these guys for several years now (Actually, I've remember this gas station here since forever because my dad used to own a restaurant on Prince Street). They're people I've trust and recommend people with, for problem with their cars. Throughout the years, my friends have been coming here for repairs and they said they charge about 30-50 percent less than some dealership prices and wouldn't trust any other shop in the city, In fact, this is the only gas station I go to in queens, cause it's conveniently located on Northern Boulevard near all the Korean BBQ spots. My coworker has been going to this mechanic for years and comes highly recommended. I finally made the trek to Flushing after my local Pep Boys said my car wouldn't 'pass' inspection and that I needed to spend $800 bucks on brakes and other nonsense. I knew it was BS, I haven't had any problems with my car at all. Its a 2004 Honda that I only drive on the weekends, its garaged most of the time. So, I took the car to Lai's. Told them I needed an inspection and that the car was making a weird noise by the rear tires. Same thing I told Pep Boys. I left the car there and went to work. They called, said there was nothing wrong with the car that they didn't hear a noise at all. It passed inspection and they changed one of the rear light bulbs. Sure enough, the noise seems to be gone. They said it might have been a pebble or something in the tire. So, I was pleased with the service. They only charged for the inspection and bulb replacement, nothing else. They really are honest mechanics and didn't take advantage. I could have easily spent a few hundred bucks but didn't have to. I live in westchester but work in queens. I can leave my car in the morning and it's ready in the afternoon. I trust this shop. I have a Lexus and honda and have been very satisfied with their work. Too many shops want to do repairs that are not necessary. I have brought my cars here for a second opinion after a shop in westchester wanted to do repairs. I was told that it wasn't necessary and they were right. I have also dropped and picked up my car at all hours of the night. They are open 24/7 You won't go wrong here. I would describe Lai's Mobil Service in 3 words: honest, reliable, efficient. Have been bringing my Mazda CX-7 here for about 3.5 years now. Services have included: oil changes, state inspection service, brake inspection and replacement, A/C system charge, front suspension replacement, wheel alignment, oil cooler replacement. And, consistently Lai's Service has been providing prompt, courteous service. I typically bring my car to the shop before 10:30 am and pick it up before 4:30 pm for almost all types of service/repair. They call with an exact diagnosis and cost of repair to obtain authorization prior to doing the work. And the mechanics explain any issue and work done before or upon pickup of my car. These guys set the platinum standard for auto repair and service. So very different than my experience at the local, Queens Mazda dealership [stealer-ship]. I use Yelp mainly to look for food places, but after some positive experiences I felt I needed to write a review for this auto repair shop. My husband used to work in Long Island and we serviced the car out there but not anymore, so we wanted a place a bit closer. My friend who comes here strongly suggested this auto repair shop. After a few times here is my impression of this place, although they have a local neighborhood shop feel they have customers coming from all over the area. Not just Brooklyn or Manhattan, but few times I saw plates from Connecticut or New Jersey even ! I asked them about it, and they said, they used to live in the area, but when they moved out of town, they make it a point to visit some friends, eat and coincide with the car maintenance, and they said even though NJ/CT is far for me, if my car needs a fix, I don't mind coming to Lai's Auto Service. People say they have great service, I think their great service simply comes from them by being honest, and when they talk to customers with respect and without being condescending. The best auto shop for me! I tried this shop to fix a problem on power steering pump, because Lai's shop has very good reviews. The original plan was to change the pump, but they found clogging stuff causing the bad circulation and malfunction of pump. They cleaned the system and solved problem. Now, my car stopped making a big noise and the power steering wheel is smooth. Mr. Lai is very sincere, careful, and honest. Most importantly, he is an excellent mechanic. I asked several questions about other problems on my car and he gave me good and practical advices. He is outstanding from other mechanics. I brought my 2017 Honda Civic to Lai's auto shop today. I arrived first thing at 8.am when it opened. There were 2 other people waiting also. They took my car in right away, which made me very happy. In my experience that usually doesn't happen at other shops. Anyway, i needed an oil change and a multi-point inspection for regular scheduled maintenance. I waited less than 45 min. and it was done! The cost for the oil change was 59.99 because i wanted the best synthetic oil, but they charge a lot less if you use regular oil. They did not charge me for the multi-point inspection. It was included in the price for the oil change and filter! The shop owner, named Phil took care of me. He was very pleasant and easy to talk to. He didn't try to tell me that i needed anything else done like a lot of other shops do. I was pleased. Overall a very good experience! I'll definitely bring my car there again if i need other work done. read more

Before came to Lai's, had other shop estimated, got a ridiculous price. I suspected wrong diagnosis, or intentional. Came to Lai's on friend's recommendation, left car with Jeffrey, he called back later, told me what's wrong, how it needs to be fixed. 1/4 amount of other shop's estimate. After car was fixed, went back for system check the following week on Jeffrey's request, to see if every thing works well, then had inspection done. Car runs smooth again now. This is one of best experience I had with auto repair shops. Invoice clearly listed what have been done. They even replaced a broken light bulb which I forgot to mention to them. I have been coming here for 21 years for all my car problems and maintenances. I will tell you now, I am not an easy customer in any aspect. Needed an oil change. Called and they told me to bring it. As they pulled my car in I noticed the rear tire looked low, as the car went past me, I could see there was a screw in the tire. I pointed it out to the guys and they took care of it. Very fast, friendly but most importantly, they are competent! Not the closest garage to my home but definitely worth the extra driving. My father used to take his car to the dealership 20 years ago, and everytime he would bring the car back, something else would pop up, or they would always try to scam him and get something done that he didn't need...."an engine flush for $500" But then he discovered Lai because of the great service and honesty. I've been taking my cars there since I was 17, I'm 33 now, moved to Brooklyn, but I still drive to Flushing to get work done, even inspections. You know a shop is honest when you do a self diagnosis, take it there and tell them to fix it, and they tell YOU that you DON'T need to fix it, and if it's something minor, they do it for you for no charge!
