Pretty much all I'm going to say is if you love (or even kinda like) your tastebuds, you will order the fish moilee curry. One of the most sublime dishes I've eaten in a very long time - and this is not hyperbole. Okay, I'll say more. The ambiance is wonderful, the service is excellent, and the entire experience was truly enjoyable. You'll definitely want to order the crab cakes, too. Go. Eat. Enjoy. Laila should be on your list.

It was an amazing experience!! The service and food were outstanding! Our server was amazing, I wish I could remember his name! But the owner was extremely friendly. He talked about the beautiful painting and artist who painted it! He also talked about how he loved the city! We had a great conversation! It was a great experience! The food was super delicious and flavorful! I had the Vegetable Samosas, Bacon & Cheese Naan, the Salmon Tandoori with a side of basmati rice and the Almrud Punch! The punch was extremely refreshing. I could really taste the different fruit flavors coming through! It wasn't too sweet either. My salmon was prepared and seasoned perfectly! It was juicy. Although, I ordered medium heat I couldn't really taste any heat. The naan and samosas came out hot and were tasty. I was a bit disappointed that I didn't see or taste any bacon on my naan bread. The server said the bacon was blended into the cheese... Hmmmm okay! It was still good but next time I'll just get the garlic naan. My partner loved her Chicken Kebab! She said the chicken was incredibly tender and juicy! She also ordered a side of mango chutney but she wasn't a fan! She was expecting more of a mango salsa type texture. All in all the ambience, staff, and food are top notch!! I suggest making reservations to get premium inside seating. We were sat on the enclosed patio which was nicely decorated but a tad tight!

We made a reservation and arrived early, waiting at the bar we were taken care of with friendly service. Our meal was delicious, fresh, and hot! Tony, the owner was fabulous and took the time to talk us through the Atwood of making an authentic Curry. It was our anniversary and they surprised us with one of their desserts, a beignet soaked in a rose water syrup. All around a 10/10 experience. The ambiance is intimate and the decor and a well done.

Amazing ambiance, service, food, etc. Always recommend Jay as your waiter. I will come back time and time again! The staff is incredibly friendly, greeted us and thanked us many times for spending our evening there.

Notably, this restaurant is a spinoff of Andaaz which is, or more accurately was in Biltmore Village. As of this writing, Andaaz and the surrounding area have been ravaged by flooding. When I stopped in at this downtown restaurant (which is on higher ground and did not flood), the owners estimated 8 months (summer 2025) until their other location could be rebuilt. So this gave me a reason to stop in here. While it didn't have a line out the door like the other notable Indian outlet I stopped at, it was close to full and had a patio and a bar as well as a stretch of tables. Notably, they were offering bottled water and their food was in takeout containers, which indicates that even in this area, the hurricane damage has impacted the water supply as of this writing. Still, it was a dining experience worth coming for. One reason you'd end up here over other Indian places is that it has a number of marked vegan options; this being Asheville there were guests for whom this was important. I was recommended a dal tadka, and when I asked for spicy lentils I certainly received them, with ample fresh flavor and a consistent burn. In addition to rice, I dipped in a bread with mint leaves on it that provided a cool flavor contrast. A fried okra salad was deliciously crunchy on its own, but I also mixed a bit of it in with my lentils for an exciting flavor combination. The price was a bit high for what it was and their non-alcoholic drink menu didn't impress me, but I was happy to have dined here and I hope this location does well while they rebuild their better-known predecessor.

We came on a Sunday for the lunch buffet, and it did not disappoint! It's hidden away in the side room, which was full of people enjoying the food. I wasn't sure if there would be enough vegetarian options, but there were plenty! We asked if they change it up on different days, and they confirmed they do, but on this day, they had lentils, saag paneer, matar mushroom, fried kale, and another potato dish on top of rice, naan, salad, and soup! I was very happy and very full. My husband isn't vegetarian, and he had maybe 4 more main dishes he could try, which he said were all very good. Service was friendly and attentive. We ordered mango lassis as well, which were very thick and filling. The buffet is cheaper during the week, but it really wasn't bad for the amount of food we got even with the weekend prices. I would come back to try something on the menu as well. We'll be back!

I enjoyed dining at Laila but would probably venture to try a different restaurant next time. The service was great-they were attentive, took the time to review the menu with us but gave us space as well. 10 out of 10 for service. We ordered the Chicken Malai Kebab and the Chicken Tikka Masala. The portions were large, including the side of rice, which was nice. The Malai Kebab was ok. I thought it was under seasoned/a bit bland and not crispy/charred as the menu described. The side of basil sauce to dip however was very good. I have had better Indian food elsewhere but Laila is a nice experience in Asheville if you're looking for an Indian restaurant with good service and ambiance.

We were having trouble finding a spot for dinner tonight and happened upon this spot while wondering about. And WOW. We're in from out of town and didn't make any reservations for our trip (rookie mistake) but I'm so glad we didn't because we wouldn't have found this absolute GEM. The staff was so kind and accommodating getting us seated and making reccomendation a for things they liked. We got Hara Bhara Kabab, Chicken Tikka Masala, Goan Shrimp Curry, Chicken Biyrani, and Dal Mahkani. Everything was exceptional and I really appreciated the high quality and seasoning of the meat. The spice level is very honest so if you say mild it is mild-- I am a bit weary of medium but I totally could have handled it. They also have a lunch buffet I would return for if we weren't leaving tomorrow.

Love Laila and showing them the love until Andaaz recovers from the flood. Service is good and food consistent. The enclosed outdoor patio is cozy. The inside dining is beautiful but lunch buffet only available on the patio.

The interior has been thoroughly and wonderfully reworked, and now offers an elegant, relaxed escape on Biltmore Ave. The staff is affable, knowledgeable, and eager to please. I ordered the Kashmiri Yogurt Soup, Garlic Naan, Malai Kofta, and Saffron Kheer. I could go on and on about all of these, but each was soulful and satisfying, clearly the work of a highly skilled, playful and patient chef. This chef loves his work, and it shows. I am not of Indian descent, but I believe there is cross-cultural commonality in the concept of home, a place of comfort and acceptance, of peace and laughter and love. This food tastes like home.

Absolutely delicious and the staff were delightful! The ambiance was lovely too! Highly recommend.

My grandparents and I REALLY enjoyed this restaurant. First off, the ambiance was beautiful, I love the decor choice and the cute chairs! Now for the star of the show: the food. I was overwhelmed by how good it was, especially the chicken tikka achari, the gobi manchurian and the naan basket. The paratha was so buttery and flaky, and I love the sticky, savory, slight sweetness of the gobi Manchurian. You can tell the chicken tikka achari was marinated for a good amount of time because it was so tender and flavorful, nearly melting in my mouth! Hats off to the chefs and owners for running such a wonderful establishment. Visiting Laila made our trip to Asheville very memorable!

The restaurant's decor is eccentric - lots of taxidermied wildlife, cookbooks, and (from our vantage point in the loft) giant jars of Duke's mayonnaise - and the food is worth going back for. I had the steak frites, my husband tried the pork chop Milanese, and we shared the marmalade tart. My filet was cooked and seasoned perfectly, and the accompanying sauce was silky smooth and addictive. The fries were salty, crispy perfection. My husband gave his pork chop high marks as well. I tried a bit of the sweet pea salad served with it, and I was suddenly 4 years old, following my mom through the garden and eating more peas than I dropped into my little basket. Fresh, pure summer. The marmalade tart was a great way to end the meal. Perfect balance of bitter and sweet. One caveat: This may not be the place if you're looking for an evening of quiet conversation. The room's acoustics bounced every sound off of every wall, and the resulting cacophony made it hard to hear each other or our very kind and efficient server at times.

I found Chestnut on Yelp and decided to wander in. The space has this elevated modern rustic vibe with a southern twist and a little bit of sass. They even sell shirts that say neither hoity nor toity, which cracked me up. Honestly, the atmosphere was great, but our waitress was the real star. She was absolutely phenomenal and looked after us perfectly. My palate was pretty fried, so I started with a Bloody Mary to wake up. Truth be told, it was just okay. The house mix had an odd flavor that nobody at the table could quite identify, and it seriously lacked spice. It was just kinda bland. I noticed a bottle of Firewalker hot sauce on the table, and splashing that in helped a little bit. After that, I transitioned to a mimosa. You really cannot mess up a mimosa too much, and it was a solid, reliable second drink. For the main event, I ordered the southern chicken and waffles. This came with a fried chicken breast sitting on golden malted waffles, smothered in sausage gravy, and drizzled with chipotle honey. It was a really great dish. The kitchen did a solid job with the fry on the chicken, and the gravy had a nice flavor. It leaned a little on the sweet side because of the honey, but it was not totally overdone. The real sleeper hit of the morning, though, was the side of cheesy grits. Those grits were absolute heaven. They were incredibly creamy and perfectly seasoned. If you go, you have to order them. Chestnut is in a great location, and despite the weak Bloody Mary, it was a stellar visit.

Worth Planning Your Asheville Trip Around…read more As a Bay Area foodie, navigating around San Francisco's incredible restaurant scene taught me to appreciate thoughtful cooking, quality ingredients, and genuine hospitality. Chestnut had been on my Asheville dining list long before I arrived, and after spending several days exploring Boone, Blowing Rock, and the Blue Ridge Mountains, I made it my dinner splurge before heading home. It absolutely delivered. A quick tip: skip the hunt for street parking and head straight to the garage across the street. The first hour is free, and downtown Asheville can be congested with both vehicle and foot traffic. I arrived around 5:30 without a reservation and was warmly greeted by the hostess, who offered me a table or a seat at the bar. Asheville was surprisingly hot and humid compared to the cool mountain weather I'd been enjoying, so the air-conditioned dining room was an easy choice over the sidewalk patio. The restaurant itself is beautiful. Fresh flowers, warm lighting, elegant stone countertops, comfortable booths, tables, and bar seating create an atmosphere that feels polished without being stuffy. What stood out most was the mix of guests. There were locals greeting staff by name, couples enjoying date night, families with children, and older guests gathering with friends. It felt welcoming and comfortable for everyone. As a solo diner, the bar was the perfect choice. I enjoyed all the energy of the restaurant while still having a peaceful dining experience. I started with a glass of Brut Rosé from Spain. Crisp, refreshing, and beautifully balanced, it was the perfect way to settle in after a warm afternoon. Then came the Lobster Bisque. As someone who has made lobster bisque from scratch, I know the work that goes into creating a great one. Chestnut's version, made with Oak & Grist Reserve Cream and finished with fresh chives, was outstanding. Rich, silky, velvety, and loaded with tender pieces of lobster. If I'm being incredibly picky, I would have enjoyed just a touch more sherry, but that's purely personal preference. The smaller serving vessel kept the bisque hot from first spoonful to last, which I appreciated. My only complaint was that I wanted a larger serving because it was that good. For my entrée, I ordered the 4-ounce Petite Filet. The steak arrived cooked a perfect medium rare with excellent flavor and texture. It was served with butter-whipped mashed potatoes, haricot verts, a crisp potato gaufrette, red wine demi-glace, and chive butter. Every component was thoughtfully prepared. The demi-glace added richness without overwhelming the beef, while the potato gaufrette provided a delicate crunch. My only minor critique was that the plate could have been served a bit hotter, but the quality of the food more than made up for it. One of the highlights of the evening was the service. Taylor, part of the management team, was personable, knowledgeable, and genuinely welcoming. After my sparkling wine, he suggested a half-glass pour of Willamette Valley Pinot Noir since I was driving. Excellent recommendation. The wine was elegant, earthy, and beautifully balanced, pairing perfectly with the filet. As the evening progressed, the restaurant filled quickly. Watching the staff greet regulars by name and efficiently manage the growing crowd spoke volumes about how well-run the restaurant is. You could tell many guests were repeat customers, which is always a good sign. After dinner, I attempted to walk off my meal through downtown Asheville, but the summer heat quickly convinced me to head back to my hotel. I left full, happy, and already thinking about that lobster bisque. For a Bay Area foodie who plans entire trips around memorable meals, Chestnut exceeded expectations. Great food, thoughtful service, an inviting atmosphere, and a dining experience that felt special without trying too hard. If you're visiting Asheville, put Chestnut on your list. Life is too short for mediocre meals, and this one is worth making time for.

The pork chop was excellent. The grilled carrots were genuinely memorable. The green salad was simple and well done. Our waiter recommended a wine that we were pleased with, and even offered a tasting. The wine list is deep for a room this size, and the cocktail list looks the same. The only and main requirement is that it definitely had Gluten Free (GF) options. I personally have other health issues, but Gluten, lactose or vegan isn't on my radar. So, I myself had to ask for suggestions. The name Juanchos Fonda was highly recommended and designated GF Colombian restaurant. I had heard for several years that this little "hole in the wall/strip mall restaurant" was a hidden gem. Looking at the menu on Google/Facebook just didn't appeal to me UNTIL now. Juanchos Fonda is located at 2619 Sweeten Creek Road #10, Asheville. Several of the party made comments to the effect do you know how many times I have driven by and never knew that there was a restaurant inside or I have seen the sign, but never considered trying it. I arrived quite early to introduce myself, and confirmed that a large group was coming. Jayson introduced himself and a little birdie had already spoken with him the night before. He and his staff were preparing our tables so Ellie and I took a quick stroll down the walkway to visit Retro Coffee Shop and owner Carrie. Retro Coffee has a variety of options for coffees, teas and desserts/pastries The pastries are by @Jaz Bakes. Carrie continues to help those that might need a little something to tide them over, her very small food pantry is available. Carrie always welcomes any contributions for the pantry. I love their Chai Tea and The Mafia coffee named by the Asheville Food Mafia as our favorite flavor of five other options. We returned to Juanchos and the table was in the final finishing touches. Within minutes the entire 16 were making conversation, welcoming hugs and meeting new friends. The owner Jayson introduced himself, his restaurant's concept, the menu, his special of the day, and large party gratuity. Our server, Cesar, was taking cocktail orders and Jayson informed the table of the special in-house Sangria. Several people enjoyed the pitcher of Sangria (hopefully someone can add that photo). The restaurant has a full bar for a wide variety of cocktails. Several people order different cocktails; Bloody Mary, Mojito, Mango Madness and a few others that I didn't hear those names. I was having a difficult time trying to decide what I wanted to try (everything Jayson mentioned) but after hearing his description of the menu I decided upon Picada Manera it's like what I would consider a Pu Pu Platter. The dish included; whole Red Snapper, octopus, lobster tail, shrimp, fried mahi, yuca, tostones, sweet plantain, fries, chimichurri, tartara, and guacamole. Growing up my dad ALWAYS had baked halibut steaks. I absolutely hated that because of trying to get the flesh without swallowing a fish bone. Well some few years later, ahum, what do I order a platter with a Red Snapper with bones. The first bite was the most delicious, decadent, well seasoned fish that I have ever tasted. Who cares if I have to eat tiny bites! The flesh comes away from the bones and I couldn't stop, but there was so much more to try. The octopus could have been cut with a spoon no knife needed. It melted like butter when being eaten. I have had some rubbery octopus and squid in my lifetime, but definitely NOTHING this tender EVER. I shared a few SMALL morsels with the others, because I knew I couldn't eat the entire meal by myself. The lobster tail and shrimp was equally as tender and you could actually taste the meat, not just the marinade/seasoning. I did try a bite of everything else when it was still fresh and hot. The remaining will be consumed tomorrow for lunch.

Absolutely stunning, a tier above everything in like a ten mile radius. This takes delicious…read moreColombia classics and elevates them with fresh ingredients and flair. The food is *excellent*, the starters are great, the cocktails are delicious, we haven't had one dud on any menu item. The only complaint is the location, and *maybe* some of the servers don't have so much English, but in a place like this, that's charm and it's never been a problem. The host is helpful and energetic, the interior is charming and interesting. If this was in Asheville, or Biltmore Square, it would be going gangbusters. Just a great place, cannot recommend this one enough.
