Vegan menu is my favorite. I usually order salmon on the grill with veggies but today I tried the Eggplant dish. Outstanding! They Jasmine rice is a different level. Try it with Tiki Masala sauce!

This is my new favorite Indian restaurant in Asheville. It was recommended by an American friend who lived and worked for several years in India and he described it as the most authentic Indian food in Asheville. It's not a "destination" type of restaurant. It's in a plain strip mall off of Tunnel Road. It has small, nondescript parking lot frontage. We've passed it on many occasions and never tried it until now. Once you enter, it's actually quite large, with a bar area and large padded booths that are private and comfortable. It's very clean and well maintained. Service was good. It wasn't busy when we went on a Sunday evening. But given how good the food is, it should be busy! There are so many choices on the menu, it was hard to narrow our choices to four. There are many items you don't see in most Indian restaurants. This is some serious Indian food! We chose well, as everything was very good. Here's what we had, ranked from fantastic to still darned good. Note we had all chicken as the protein, but for many of the dishes they offer lamb, shrimp and salmon as well -- or vegetarian. (1st) Kolhapuri: So much going on here, and each ingredient contributed to the taste. It has cinnamon, clove, coriander, cumin, poppy seeds, red chilis and a hint of coconut. It smells and tastes like nirvana. (2nd) Tikka Masala: This is our benchmark, like lasagna in an Italian restaurant, and theirs was very good. Rich, creamy and with just enough heat. (3rd) Vindallu/Vindaloo: Very good taste, but packing some serious heat, even in the potatoes. (4th) Chicken Curry: This is a yellow curry, sort of like a Thai or Japanese curry. It was milder, but still quite good. They ask you for your heat level choice: mild, medium, medium hot or hot. We got everything medium except the vindaloo, which we ordered medium hot. We eat a lot of spicy food. Medium was good for us. The medium hot vindaloo was great for those in our party who want some real burn. It was borderline too hot for me. I can only imagine what hot is like in this case. The basmati rice served with all the dishes was warm and fluffy with excellent flavor. We got a couple orders of garlic naan, which was nice and crispy with a good dose of garlic. For dessert, we shared a wonderful Kulfi (Indian ice cream with vanilla, pistachios, almonds, rose water) served with fresh whipped cream and a drizzle of chocolate. A great way to end the meal. There are so many other menu items that we want to try. We will definitely be back. If you love Indian food, you need to give this place a try!

I went in expecting a lunch buffet. It is disappointing to not have one if that is what is posted on your yelp page. Please update it. Even though there wasn't a buffet we decided to stay. The food was well prepared and delicious. If you order it spicy they will come through on it. The garlic naan was delicious and so were the sauces. We had the green mint and tamarind. We also had the popadom. I'm not sure if those were made in house but they were also quite good. My matteer paneer was loaded with flavor and cheese cubes. Ohhhhh man did it have me sweaty! I loved it! The serving size was on point for the price. Overall we paid a lot more than expected. Keeping that in mind I would definitely recommend this place.

Excellent!!! We got Vegetable Korma and Lamp Chop Dinners. Large portions, extremely well prepared. Garlic Naan was well seasoned and quite tasty. The Indian Chai was a delightful sipping experience. I loved the authentic blend of spices.

Loved the decor inside very simple. We ordered two appetizers Paneer Pakora and the assorted platter. They were alright, we enjoyed the dips that came with them more than food aspect of the appetizers. The appetizers were a little dry and seemed low on flavor without the dips. For our entrees we had Tandoori Mixed Grill and the Kasar Malai Kabab with some garlic naan. We also ordered a mango lassi. The entrees were great and full of flavor. We enjoyed that the tandoori mixed grill offered a variety of meats and the veggies were wonderful. The cashew sauce on the kasar malai kabab was yummy curry flavor and tater really good with the garlic nan. The garlic naan was seasoned and garliced well, the texture was fluffy. The mango lassi was very delicious and on thicker side. The flavor had a good balance of mango and yogurt. The service was mediocre, our server didn't seem to care and just had an emotionless face. Made a weird comment about us not finishing our food. Either then we would probably order take out in the future. Our totally for a special drink, glass of wine, 2 apps, naan, and 2 entrees was around $75 for two people. But we had enough left over for later for a second meal. Would not order appetizers again, but def the mango drink and entrees. 4 out of 5 stars for food 2-3 out of 5 stars for service

I arrived at this place at around 8:25pm took my order around 8:35pm food started coming out around 8:45pm and then they were kicking me out at exactly 9pm.. so I didn't really get to enjoy my dinner. Definitely not going back to this place when I'm in Asheville.

The menu has a lot of options vegan and vegetarian. The food is delicious and fresh. The vegetarian platter and gobi are a great choice. The service is great and friendly. Will definitely come back.

    The 3 pieces of chicken

This place has gone down in quality tremendously while almost doubling their prices. I just received a $20 chicken entree with 3 tiny pieces of chicken. After years of trying to give these people the benefit of the doubt, it's clear they are no longer worth it.

Exceptional decor, menu, presentation, food and service. Highly recommend!! Up the hill in shopping center across street from Best Buy

As for food, I cannot recommend the matchstick okra fries enough. Even if you don't like okra, please give them a try. As someone who doesn't like okra normally, we were convinced by our waiter to give them a try and I am so glad that we did. So crispy and salty, just a wonderful way to start the evening. Highly recommend the chaat as well, full of flavor and a refreshing start before the main dishes arrived. They all sounded good, so really a personal preference on which to go with. For the main dish we opted for both Thali's, butter chicken and the saag paneer. Both were delicious and full of flavor, again I don't think you could wrong since you get a little of everything on your platter. Our service was phenomenal as well! Our waiter walked us through the menu, gave us recommendations, and was very attentive. Food came out super quick as well so all around 10/10. I will now be waiting ever so impatiently for our next visit to Asheville so that we can give more of the menu a try!!

(Shahi Daawat means Royal Feast or Royal Banquet historically signifying grand meals from princely kitchens with rich dishes, luxurious presentation and cultural elements and often themed around specific Indian states of festivals and tracing back to royal recipes. Kerala is a coastal state on the south of India having a coastline of about 400 miles along the Arabian Sea. The food there being popular for their fresh ingredients, rich spices, coconut and seafood.) First of all we were both greeted with a beautiful and fragrant Jasmine garland by the owner and staff outfitted in typical dress and we were seated on a table with banana leaves as our plates for the first portion of the feast (yes; it was a feast!!!). The appetizers started arriving promptly with a variety of proteins starting with chicken deliciously seasoned and delightfully crunchy. The chicken was followed by Medu Vada with Coconut Chutney and Pan Roasted Prawns, Vada with Chutney and a delicious Mushroom Pepper Fry. Then the entrees began: Idli and Sambhar, Lamb Chettinad, Kadala (chickpea) Curry, Egg Roast, Pepper Chicken, Cabagge Thoran and Kerala Fish Curry. This was accompanied by Malabar Paratha and Lemon Rice. Although the portions of the individual items seemed small, cumulatively became overwhelming, but I would not change it at all. It seemed as if we were welcomed into someone's home and they were gladly sharing all of the dishes of their region. It was a magnificent and comprehensive compilation of dishes from Kerala and I am glad it was so!!! The desserts were three; Kozhikode Halwa (different than Halwa from Northern India; Kozhidode Halwa this delicacy melts in your mouth and it is popular not only in Kerala but in Arabia, Persia, and London. Food historian have traced its origins back to centuries ago), Coconut Burfi (a traditional treat made with coconuts milk and cardamom) and Coconut Kulfi (a delicious frozen coconut milk delight). During the meal the chef, (himself native of Goa, southern India), servers and the owner visited the tables to answer any questions. As if we were transported to a Restaurant in Kerala; It was a delightful, authentic and memorable experience, one that will not be forgotten! We will return to their next experience. Thank you Mehfil, as your full restaurant name suggests/meaning (Mehfil; Yaaron Ki... apno ki=A gathering of friends and loved ones) We definitely felt the love.

I would recommend you call your order in, rather than use the DoorDash system. The system does not allow for tipping for pick-up orders. I always leave a little for take-out. You can't help but be reminded how companies like DoorDash and Uber take advantage of their partners. If I had any tips for the restaurant...get rid of the plastic take-out bowls and just use those metal take-outs you have for the rice. Having said that, there are a lot of Indian restaurants in Asheville. One I liked just closed, while several others are routinely packed and this one isn't. I stopped in shortly after opening (but still before the arrival of some of their staff) to give them a chance. One might expect a New Zealand company to do well on dairy and perhaps they do, but I was tempted by a vegan menu and ordered some chickpeas and bread. My channa masala was freshly cooked, with a good mix of flavors and herbal notes, while a garlic naan, while not something I often order during my frequent Indian restaurant visits, was delicious. But for the money, which was more than standard for the area, I don't get it. They talk about using fresh local ingredients, which a lot of restaurants around here do, and I appreciate their open kitchen, but there was way too much salt in there.
