If you know where Hot Tamales is, go behind it and hit Upscale Rio! First of all, this place has so many options of what I'd call comfort food and everything is good! They have shakes, desserts, yummy starters, mac and cheese, burgers and much more! What's my favorite thing? So many items are gluten free!! Hallelujah!! Even the burgers can be ordered with a gluten free bun! We also had a super sweet waitress! I had to go gluten free last fall and it really cut down on us eating out as most places have little to no options. Here, MOST things are gluten free!! Like what you may ask? Well, today I had chicken fried chicken, green chile gravy, mashed potatoes and fresh vegetables- a medley of corn, Lima beans ,bell peppers and red onions. They use a gluten free rice flour and the batter on the chicken was crispy and delicious!! They are also super generous with their portions so I took half of my food home and can't wait for dinner! I also had a double chocolate shake and a cold brew. They proudly brew Whispering Bean Coffee which is super tasty! My husband had the Green Chile Chicken Pot Pie and really enjoyed it and ate every bite! My mother in law had the Basic Cheddar Burger with fresh cut fries and raved about it. She also had a Key Lime Pie Shake. No photo of this, sorry! They normally have a gluten free fruit cobbler but they were out. I'll be back to try that for sure! Today's menu was MUCH thinner than the menu photos posted. I had fish & chips and it was ok. Maybe not as good as I expect from Lilly & Liam's but close. To be fair, while Lilly & Liam's is excellent, I often have trouble finding something to eat on their menu. And I have a similar challenge at Upscale Rio. I often have that challenge in New Mexico, though.

He walked away as I approached the counter. I was confused as I wasn't aware I had to order on the tablet on the counter. When I began using the tablet I was in search of the new mushroom burger they sent me an email yesterday about. Of course you know it's what I wanted to try. Sadly it wasn't on the menu on the tablet. When I called the employee for help I basically got the vibe he didn't want to be there and he was hesitant to approach. When he did come to the counter I asked about the burger even showed him the email to get told it's not out yet and it was coming soon. I found myself wondering why I even got the email if this was true. Needless to say the food came out really fast. I thought well that's good at least. The presentation was better than the experience. The cheese on the queso fries was pretty skimpy. There were way more fries than cheese which was disappointing. The burger I wasn't a fan of either. It needed more cheese and the stackers sauce tasted strange like it a chipotle sauce it wasn't the same as I recalled. I'm sad to say this is the second location I've had a bad experience with. It's really disappointing because I really loved this place. I guess I'll have to stick to the central food hall because so far that's the only location that hasn't disappointed me like this yet.

The manager pitched in, but they were playing catch up with the silverware and we had to wait for it when the food arrived. Which, no biggie, but it was a fork when I had steak and my husband had a messy burger. So we right away asked for knives. I pointed out my steak, and the manager got snarky with us like she got it. But then she brought us butter knives. When I got up and went to the bar to ask for a steak knife, her attitude was even faker. I don't abide fake when someone's eyes and mouth clearly say they think you're stupid or annoying or both. As a manager, you learn how to school your face and keep people happy or you don't last in management long. Also, if she miscalculated staffing, then it should have been her job to get into the bathrooms and keep them presentable. They weren't. Paper everywhere, and the walls need some serious touch ups. It's hard for people to trust the food safety if the job-food public areas aren't kept clean and well-maintained, you know? We'll be back because the food IS awesome and we always have an enjoyable meal. But they definitely need to turn an eye toward building upkeep and service.
