Omg what can I say about LuLu. She's the bomb!!! She saved my hair. I went to get my hair done at Elegant touch DO NOT GO TO ELEGANT TOUCH FOR COLOR!!!!I asked for Simple highlights. My hair turned out to be a nightmare!!!! I had a gold colored crown of color on my head and barely anywhere else. Ok let me just say that ROSA is a true artist in every sense of the word. There is nothing too intimidating for her and she will tell you if what you are asking for is a bad idea. Her prices are fair and even cheap compared to SF. The studio is comfortable with no parking issues. I was inspired by a costume piece I made to have my hair colored wildly ombre, from bright (it glows!) yellow to green to super dark green. I asked Rosa if we could make my hair match the costume, and she said we absolutely could. She did not disappoint! I left having my verrrrrrry long hair cut into a donation pony tail and with a sassy, beautiful new hair cut and color that is unlike anything I've ever had before. I love it! The salon is adorable, and easy to get to, with ample street parking. Rosa is a true pro and really knows her stuff. She is a delight to work with, which is great especially when you are in the salon for a few hours of hair coloring, and she makes sure that she gets it right. I cannot say enough wonderful things for Lacquer, and for Rosa, and Kimberly. The entire experience at this salon was SO amazing, I'm not sure I have enough superlatives in my vocabulary to describe it. First- I am a physically challenging customer, being 6'2", and having wide hips- I don't fit in most salon chairs without a lot of discomfort. I could not be happier with the efforts both Kimberly and Rosa made to make me comfortable for what ended up being a day-long process. They were SO accommodating, and so gracious- it was refreshing, and a welcome change, let me tell you. Next- I went to Rosa with hair that I had been dying bright flaming red with at-home bottle dyes for years- and I wanted to go dark pewter/grey. She was totally up-front with me, from before I ever set foot in the salon- "I don't think it's possible to get your hair to lighten that much." I said it was okay- I wanted a change, and I was willing to try, and see what we could do. Rosa is a freaking miracle-worker- and she can set foils like The Flash! I have pretty thick hair- as in the individual strands are baby-fine, but there are a TON of them- so setting foils with a high lift on my entire head would have taken anyone else HOURS- and they wouldn't have been done putting them in before the first ones had to come out, etc. It could have gone horribly, horribly wrong... but not in Rosa's fast, talented hands! She had my head covered in foils and completely set in a record amount of time, and just as she finished the crown, the ones at the back of my head were ready to be checked to see how well the color had lifted... Even better than her speed and competency- she managed to work some kind of magic, and got my hair to lift to almost perfect platinum blond! We were all shocked- exclamations of "where did the red go?" were had all around- and my hair isn't even the tiniest bit fried or dried-out. We waited a month before going back and laying the dark pewter grey color over it, to let my hair balance itself out- and I couldn't have been happier. It turned out the EXACT color I wanted, and I am a total convert- I will be going back to Lacquer and Rosa for as long as I am able! Oh- I also got a brilliant haircut from Rosa. Is there anything she can't do? And I watched for a full day while Kimberly took care of her clients next to me while my hair processed- totally talented, totally professional, really friendly- everything you could ever ask for in a salon! I rarely write reviews unless I am extremely pleased or need to warn people. As for Lacquer, my review of 5 stars speaks for itself *( if I could give them 10, I would ). In a " nut shell ", having been a city girl for several years I recently moved to SL. This combined with my professional experience has given me the knowledge to know what it takes to truly obtain great hair; basically I'm not easy and I expect exceptional results. Once your in the hands of a "Classically Trained Stylist", you will never except less (at least I won't). After researching salons from Oakland to Castro Valley, I finally decided on, Lacquer. I had my 1st appointment with Rosa, for a haircut. . She took off just the right amoun-t enough to ensure the integrity of the hair, but not to much. I prefer it on the long side, which often gets disregarded if stylists aren't listening or paying attention. After meeting her I knew I was in great hands, I decided to go forth with my color appointment. My color could not have turned out any better: reds vary and are not the easiest to explain, -she "nailed it"!!! The other thing I noticed is that it seems be retaining color vibrancy much longer than any other former salon of mine. Rosa, has officially filled the position as my new hair stylist! I've been a client of Kimberly Ricardo for years now and I've followed her from the Wak Shack in San Francisco to Lacquer Studios. She has years and years of experience under her belt and is a true professional. She absolutely understands my hair and it's needs when it comes to specific style cuts. I've had long layered hair for years and when I recently told her I wanted to go super short (Vidal Sasoon 5 point variation) she knew exactly what to do. I specifically wanted her to cut this style because she has a deep understanding and knowledge of different hairstyles through the decades from the 1920s- present. I believe this is her specialty when it comes to specific period styles (in addition to modern cuts- this woman does it all!!) I was NOT disappointed to say the least! I get compliments DAILY on my haircut. She understands hair type/bone and face structure and will know exactly what will suit you. If you plan to get a cut and/or color my advice would be to do your research- bring in photos of what you want so she gets an understanding of what it is your asking her to do- she will always give you her advice on what she thinks will work. I'm really excited for her expansion of the salon and I have absolutely no doubt the new stylist and colorist who come to work for her will have equal skill level. The salon itself is absolutely beautiful in it's layout and decor- always a super fun and enjoyable experience.
