I've been seeing Sokonthy for years and am so grateful for her! She's sweet, really listens and gives me great haircuts. I love the volume she gives me on top without the poof on the bottom, and my hair grows out beautifully. Thank you, Sunshine Salon! read more

This review is for Jessica. So happy that she's back and was able to book a haircut appointment with her! I went through 2 different stylists since the last time I saw her and just needed her meticulous hair cutting skills to fix all the previous bad haircuts. I received a wonderful hair wash in the beginning, followed by Jessica working her hair cutting magic. I came in for an overdue haircut as my ends were very dry and tangled. She set the expectations in the beginning with the length I wanted off while blending the most perfect curtain bangs into my longer layers. All my dead ends were trimmed off, making everything feel so much healthier. The end blowout sealed everything together. She also double checked everything was even after the hair was dried to ensure there wasn't anything odd sticking out or not blended nicely. She is an overall amazing hair stylist and highly recommend. Her IG is @haiirbyjessica_ for more of her work! read more

This review is for Lana! Lana takes great care of my waxing and deep cleaning facials. She's super sweet and very detailed. Lana makes me feel very comfortable and I wouldn't trust anyone with waxing. My skin was beyond congested and she brought it back to a peaches n' cream glow. My work can be stressful and each time after my appointments I leave relaxed and ready to start the work week. Thank you Lana and for being so amazing! read more

Wanted to even out my haircut from a previous stylist who didn't achieve my goal even after providing a photo, so I waited a few months to let my hair grow out a bit and booked Marcela after looking at her photos. She greeted me and proceeded to wash my hair. She gave me a complimentary hair and head spa experience! We chatted the entire appointment. When all was said & done, I couldn't be happier with the result! I loved everything she did to bring life to my hair and happiness in my heart! Very clean, beautifully decorated, spacious, and warm welcoming environment. There's a few off-street parking in front of the salon, but street parking isn't hard to find either. Sadly, I will be moving out of the Bay Area in a few months, but I hope I can come back to Marcela for my hair needs in the future. read more

I was in DESPERATE need of a color correction. I went to my stylist whom I was loyal to for 15+ years in Sacramento. Normally she does a phenomenon job, but this time she overbooked herself and had me sitting under the heat and over-processed my hair. Every girls nightmare! As you can see from the before photos- I had breakage, uneven bleach/coloring, & unblended streaks! When I got home I was freaking out I was so close to box dying my hair because I had a photoshoot scheduled the following week. THANK GOD I DIDNT. I found Marcela on Yelp and later followed her on Instagram the same night. I messaged her and she responded within 30 minutes. Luckily for me she had an opening the next day and I immediately booked with her. And here is what I noticed and how my appointment went: Parking - There's plenty of parking available. Salon - Very cute, modern, decorated, and clean with a lot of windows and natural sunlight! Service - 5/5 stars! She greeted me at the door and was the sweetest person ever! I told her what happened to my hair and what I wanted to do to it. She listened carefully and went over color swatches with me. Marcela was very knowledgeable and took her time explaining the services she will provide before I agreed to proceed. I ended up doing a root shadow, a caramel semi-permanent color over my previous hair color, hair treatment, & face framing hair cut. I am IN LOVE with the results! It came out better than I expected. Thank you so much Marcela you have gained a loyal customer read more

Sokonthy and her team are the best! I love how friendly and nice they are. They offer you coffee, tea and snacks while you get your hair done! I come here frequently for hair touch ups, deep conditioning, toning and cuts. The vibe of the salon is modern and clean! I've also gotten a facial with Lana and it was amazing! I always leave the salon satisfied, I found this salon because Sokonthy was able to squeeze me in for a haircut in the same day. I highly recommend! read more

Sokonthy is the best hairstylist for both color and cuts. Her work is amazing. Been going to her for the past 4 years. Never had any issues.

Update to Sokonthy's reply: Disappointed by the less than forthcoming and unprofessional response at Sokonthy's salon. Over three visits (last one in 11/11/23) haircut lengths significantly deviated from requests, resulting in unevenness (photo evidence attached). Requested hair color was not achieved twice, despite clear communication. There are other issues but I will not disclose here for fear of tarnishing her reputation & business. All in all - these issues were overshadowed by the Sokonthy's defensiveness and refusal to provide further service (or provide a refund, at minimum for the tips I added) after expressing concerns. This experience highlights a need for improved attention to customer requests and communication. I will not be going back nor recommending this salon. ********* It's with disappointment that I write this review for Sokonthy's hair salon, a local business I've been trying to support. Over the course of three visits, I've had a series of unfortunate experiences - from uneven haircuts to incorrect hair color treatments. On my first visit, Sokonthy gave me a full balayage and haircut. While the color was generally acceptable, I later noticed that my hair was unevenly cut, with one side being 2 inches longer. (See attached pic) I decided to overlook this, attributing it to a one-off mistake. My second visit was for a root touch up and toning. However, my hair was darkened far beyond what I had requested, returning it to the original color before my first balayage treatment. Again, I decided to give Sokonthy the benefit of the doubt. The third visit was more problematic. Sokonthy cut my hair shorter than what I had asked for by over 2 inches, and it was still uneven with one side longer by 1.5 inches. When I pointed this out, she became defensive and blamed it on my hair parting. After spending three hours at the salon, bulk of it trying to fix the haircut, I left the salon with a significantly shorter length than requested. In an effort to maintain a positive relationship with the salon, I refrained from requesting a refund and even tipped Sokonthy to acknowledge the extra time spent on my hair. I suggested scheduling another appointment, but was later told by Sokonthy that she no longer wished to serve me. This was an unexpected and unprofessional response, particularly given my repeated attempts to be understanding and accommodating. I've attached photos for reference. It's disheartening to have had such an experience with a local business that I was genuinely trying to support. I hope this feedback proves constructive for Sokonthy and her salon in the future. read more

I went in this weekend for a haircut with Jessica after two years of not touching my hair. It was extremely damaged and hard to manage as it had gotten too long. I explained to her what I was looking for, and without seeing any inspo pics (I completely forgot to show her) she executed exactly what I wanted so beautifully! I also have psoriasis on my scalp, and she was very attentive to me regarding the water temperature and styling tool temperature. I felt so taken care of, I will definitely be back to see her! Couldn't have asked for better service:) read more

When my last hairstylist moved out of the area, I was on the search for a new one. After some searching on Yelp, I found myself at Sunshine Salon with Marcela. The studio itself is beautiful and so clean. I love all the windows to let the natural light in. They have a small parking lot and there's street parking available as well. Worst case scenario, it looks like you might be able to park in the nearby plaza and walk over. Marcela is amazing! She has a really great way of making people feel so comfortable. I appreciated how she explained everything she was doing, so helpful for a girl like me trying to figure out how to best take care of my hair. She also was never too pushy about purchasing other services or selling me on a service I don't actually need. She kept the conversation flowing and was really easy to talk to. Plus her prices are so reasonable and she's worth every penny! I've gotten a root touch up, hair cut, and blow dry a few times and have been happy with the results every time. Next time, I'll go for some fun colors too! read more

I've been looking for a hair salon since I've moved to the east bay. I am well pleased with Sophia who brought life to my boring, all black hair. I love the way she cut and colored my hair and her price is very reasonable. The salon is really clean and I would highly recommend. read more

2 part review because both the salon and Duygu deserves a callout. Salon: Beautifully renovated modern and clean space with comfortable chairs, washing station, roomy bathroom, and refreshments (tea, coffee, water, snacks!). The owner is super friendly and welcoming. The salon has on prem parking which I love Duygu: I don't know where to start. Duygu saved my hair from a very botched hair dye and cut job. I almost didn't want to go to another salon after my last experience at a different salon. Duygu is excellent at color correction, balayage, haircut, styling, and toning. I am sure other services would be 5 star as well but I didn't get a chance to try yet. She makes the hair visits feel like a visit to a friends house with her warm personality. I will not visit another stylist as long as Duygu is around. read more

As I was preparing for my wedding, I decided to stop bleaching my own hair and really get my hair healthier. I remembered my best friend spoke suuuper highly of her go to person so we made an appointment and I met Sokonthy. For my first service with her in February, I showed her a balayage and she knew immediately what to do. During the consultation, the service and even afterwards, she made me feel so comfortable. She is super knowledgeable and will be honest with you about what your hair can take. She truly cares about the health of your hair and I appreciate that! She also gives you tips and suggestions for hair care and maintenance. She blended everything so beautifully that even 6 months after the first service, people would compliment my hair asking if I just got it done. After the first service, I already knew I would come back to her before my wedding day. My best friend texted her and she got us onto her schedule the following week. Her new salon is absolutely beautiful. There's this very peaceful feeling as soon as I walked in. The lighting and the nature around the shop just felt soothing. I decided I wanted to lift a little more and showed her my inspiration photo. She as always knew immediately what to do and began to work. My friend and I spent most of the day at her salon and left with the most beautiful results. I never thought my hair could be colored and healthy and didn't care to go to salons before meeting Sokonthy. I'm now blonder and wedding ready with healthy hair thanks to her. I highly recommend her and her salon! read more

Finally! I've been looking for a great hair stylist near by and Duygu is the one! I found this place on Yelp and reached out for a gloss treatment. Duygu reached out and was very responsive. I made an appointment and was assisted as soon as I walked in! I loved that I didn't have to wait. She explained the process to me and got started! I'm a quiet person and don't enjoy small talk, which she didn't force me to engage in. Duygu understood the assignment. I will definitely be coming back to her and 100% recommend! read more

Duygu is a miracle worker, I had grown out my highlights from my old hairdresser, who moved during the pandemic, and my anniversary was coming up, so I needed to get my hair done quickly, but to find another hairstyle, who you trust to do what you want can be hard, but luckily my sister had gone to Duygu, and her hair turned out GREAT, so I took a chance... I'm so glad I did, immediately Duygu knew exactly how to fix my hair, and my haircut (which had also grown out), she showed me a bunch of pictures of toned hair so that she could make the right color for my hair, Duygu was so easy to talk to, and so sweet, and quick, that I will be coming back regularly. Thank you Duygu for making me feel beautiful again! read more

Sokonthy is amazing! She's been my go to for 2-3 years now and truly an expert in all things hair. I always have a lot of ideas or mixtures of styles and colors I want and she's been able to execute my vision every time. My hair also has never been healthier. My best friend is getting married soon and we wanted to refresh our hair so I reached out to Sokonthy and she was able to get us in the following week. I had a cut inspo photo and a general idea of how I wanted my hair done this time. As always she gave me an honest and knowledgeable consultation. We went over things like hair lifting and she also gave me some information about different hair treatments and shampoos (I have very straight long hair so I wanted some insight on volume and what not). She is so skilled and really cares about her craft. She is also so so so kind. I love seeing her and feel so happy with my results each time. Her new space is incredibly beautiful and peaceful as well. I've referred my best friend and my sister to her and they have become repeat customers too! Jessica is the absolute best! I've been seeing her for a couple years now and she always does a great job. I had to see a couple other stylists while she was gone and my hair was so depressed. My hairstylist recently moved to Sunshine Salon, Marcela McBride, so I followed her. What a wonderful reception. All the staff welcomed my daughter and me. We were offered water and a tour. The atmosphere is very relaxing, big beautiful windows to allow the light in, and great smelling products! As always, Marcela took care of us! She has a gentle touch and is very knowledgeable about hair care and coloring techniques. She also cuts my son's hair (not on this visit though) who is autistic and she understand his needs. I have followed her to her new venture, along with so many other clients who enjoy working with her, as she now operates Sunshine Salon. She's super talented -- and she cares about the team who works here and every client. She looks after the salon and hosts with great care! My daughter works with Rosa, and she's very happy with her haircuts and requests her once it's time. Duygo is also great with hair and does eyebrows too!
