Mama Kenya Samosa's with Chutney :)
Alfonso B.

If you're in Amsterdam, Labyrinth is a gem worth the 30 minute tram ride from the Amsterdam Centraal area. I walked into the well-lit establishment and the first thing I noticed was the music playing in the background. A wide range of music was played throughout the night and everything fit. I originally came for the Jazz and Poetry Sunday event which I heard is a dope space for creatives and visitors. Due to the holiday weekend (the Sunday before Christmas), the event did not happen--but I stayed. I stayed because the owner and mixologist extraordinaire, Sam, along with one of the host, Scoop, were both very warm and welcoming. Another thing I noticed while looking through the menu was the number of vegetarian and vegan friendly food options available. They care! I ordered the Mama Kenya Samosas and was not disappointed. Flaky and soft on the outside with a tasty filling inside. I can't recall the drinks I ordered but they were amazing (taste and strength). Labyrinth is a great date night option for self, friends, and potential lovers looking for an intimate space. It was a slow night which allowed for me, Sam, and Scoop to engage in dialogue and share our experiences and perspective in various topics. The conversation enhanced my experience at Labyrinth and my overall trip to Amsterdam. Thank you. Lastly, this is a black-owned business. In the States, I enjoy supporting black businesses and I was ecstatic that I had the opportunity to support Labyrinth. I'll definitely visit here every time I'm in Amsterdam and I highly recommend you do the same thing.

I love a beautifully made and tasty cocktail and this one was perfectly smoked with lavender...it was like aged whiskey old fashion meets lavender tea. The food was decent for bar bites but really this is a spot to chill out and have conversation and entertainment...especially if you come on poetry night. I would totally recommend you make a pit stop here.

The name of this spot caught our attention as us being native New Yorkers a spot called Harlem Soul food just sounded like good eats. When we got there the place was crowded all of the tabled were taken but there was room at the bar. Reluctantly we took a seat at the bar which turns out the be the best seat in the house. The bartender who I was later told was also the owner spoke very little, but this man was busy crafting and concocting amazing drinks who would have time for words. We ordered the fries chicken and fried plantain as a starter and to drink I ordered the Cane Smuggler which was an amazing drink that came in a cool vase looking cup covered with cinnamon with a half slice of passion fruit on top. The chicken was crispy and hot and hit the spos oh so well. We followed up with an order of jerk chicken wings. It was amazing to watch the bartender, every cocktail served that night was single handedly made by this one man and he never missed a beat. I was very satisfied with this place and i would love to come here again one day.

While in Amsterdam, I didn't quite notice much African Americans or people of Caribbean descent. So to feel related to myself, my boyfriend and me searched for places to eat, we came across Labyrinth. I'm glad we did, because although the location is not centered around the tourist area, I would consider it a hidden gem. Upon walking in you can tell it's a hidden gem because it was crowded, I would assume both the locals and tourists know about this spot. To eat we ordered fried chicken, jerk chicken and plantains, all to which are small bites. To drink I ordered sinner and rainbow. Both drinks were beautifully crafted. You can tell how much concentration and craft that's put into each drink if you sit at the bar, you'll get a look at the mixology happening. Now being from NY, I tip although not necessary here, but after the craft in the drinks here I had to.

A bomb ass drink. The spicy Celia i think. Just order it!!!!

1st night in Amsterdam and so far not disappointed. I'm a foodie and loved that I could order from the shareable menu. Everything was amazing. My belly is happy. I'm loving the drink menu as well. The energy is great, the staff is super sweet and accommodating. The chef is fabulous you can tell he takes pride in his work. We ordered the Jerk Wings, Sweet Potato, Messy Nachos and Empanadas. The drinks were spicy and good, definitely the part of Europe that makes the bomb.com drinks. The USA might need to take some notes ‍IJS. Definitely Germany needs lessons ‍. Come to this place and thank me later

This place was highly recommended on several lists. I love to patronize Black owned establishments so i was looking forward to having dinner here. The drinks definitely live up to the reputation. The owner meticulously prepares every beverage. MY, MY, MY!!! I had the sugarcane smuggler and another drink. Both were tasty. It was nice to order a bunch of tapas and try everything. After the first round, we reordered our favorite items. We have the privilege to attend when it was open mic night. There were a lot of talented artists in the building. Thank you Labyrinth for a great evening with my friends.

During my favorite visits, the bartenders explain each drink you order as they serve it and tell you the story. Every drink has a story. Sometimes they are busy or not interested and you don't get the story. I wouldn't have noticed that the drink tastes like a salad, and not in the bad way, had the bartender not told me the story. A couple of times I asked if they have merch for sale and one time they had pins which I bought. The next time I came, they were out of both pins and shirts. Bummer. I recommend a visit when you're looking for a cool place in Amsterdam, especially when you are staying at the hotel.

The decor was very nice as well. I didn't try any food there. Now it comes to the important part of the review. It's all about the cocktails. I got the Beeswax Old Fashioned(17 Euros). It was very good and a nice twist on an old fashioned. My second drink was the Paradiso Manhattan(17 Euros) and it was a tasty cocktail with something extra. It came with a piece of chocolate that was made with mushroom powder. They paired well together. I can't give it five stars for one reason. The drinks were very good, but they were a little weak. I felt very little to nothing after my second drink. I'm not a big drinker and I have a low tolerance for alcohol. The drinks need to be a little stronger. More of a kick to them. I would still recommend Super Lyan to anyone that has the pleasure of visiting Amsterdam on holiday.

The bartenders were busy but nice and took care to explain the creative and extensive menu. The second time I came I made a reservation for two online. It's not a big space but it's very popular so it's consistently full. This is a great bar so I can see why it's so popular. Don't miss Flying Dutchmen Cocktails in Amsterdam.

He said water, so I assumed it was it was tinted from the lighting. When I took a sip it was a flavored water. I asked if it was gluten-free and he was very rude in his response. Basically was like um yea it just has spices in it. Spices may not be gluten free and could be of concern for a celiac. I asked him if any drinks were gluten free and he said all but 2. I wasn't confident that the drinks would be made separately from the non- gluten drinks so I opted not to get one. My friend got the bees knees and said it was really tasty. The server did come back and switch my water to regular at the end but he should have been upfront with what he gave to prevent any exposure to peoples allergies.

We ordered beef bitterballen to try this traditional Dutch comfort food. Meanwhile, my husband ordered their signature cocktail called "Beurre Noisette" old fashioned and I ordered a Dutch Negroni (Negronis are my favorite drink to order wherever I go). Both were delicious! Meanwhile, we chatted with Iago the bartender, and Lily the manager. We learned more about Amsterdam and why so many people come here from elsewhere in Europe to work. Iago was super fun to talk to. He'd lived in Amsterdam for 7 years and It was only his first week here at NJoy. He was skilled as a bartender, being able to mix fabulous cocktails and also hold an interesting conversation at the same time. We'd go back just to be able to talk with him again, such a friendly bartender, very attentive, and professional. The beef bitterballen was so hot we had to wait a bit to try it. It comes with savory mustard that is better than any mustard I've tried before. Not sure why. The bitterballen were crispy fried with beef ragú inside. I'm not a fan myself but am glad I tried it. NJoy is elegant and romantic and cozy. There's another bar downstairs with a disco ball above. It would be fantastic to host a celebration event here. Their cocktails are memorable! Highly recommend!

We went on an evening when it was NOT packed, so it was easy to snag a seat at the bar. This place is a treat for the eyes. There are a lot of interior design touches that make it fun to look around and spot cool things/touches like the back wall of the bar and the lighted ceiling display. The upstairs was closed the evening we visited, but the manager allowed us to go up and take a few photos, which was kind. Speaking of the staff...the manager moves quickly, and will absolutely recognize new patrons (this isn't the type of place where you'll be casually ignored all night) There's a live DJ spinning in the corner, and he was pretty legit. The star of this review, however, is the super-hot bartender, Juno. There's an extensive list of drinks at this place, but my partner and I decided to order off-menu, asking Juno for an Old Fashioned. She was so cute. Her eyes lit up, she smiled a little, and walked away to prepare our drinks. When she came back a few minutes later with our drinks (they were truly beautiful and she'd even rimmed the glass with an twisted orange peel) she THANKED US for giving her "a real drink to make." We'd only planned to have the one drink and move on, but Juno's drinks were do damn good we decided to have another round and a shot for the road. Both my imagination and my immediate girl-crush deluded me into thinking Juno winked at me as I paid the bill and she said, "Do come back." But I'm here for the delusion and will always giggle to myself when I think of Juno's smile...and wink!

We were going on a boat tour that afternoon, to see all the light installations, so we made sure the timing was right to get to Pulitzer's on time! We had a 6:00 reservation, and got there promptly and found the door that we were to enter. The door was locked, but there was a sign that said 'please wait, someone will be with you soon'. Our wait was very short, and someone promptly came, greeted us and took us to our seats at the bar. Because a reservation, I believe is required, (not 200% about that), we were wondering if it would be a bit stuffy. It was not at all, everyone that we spoke to was very friendly, and great service at the bar. There were other couch settings and a few different set ups, but as usual, we love the bar. Our drinks were fabulous and we tried three of their menu items- only have appetizers, but they were very good. In talking to my sister and her husband, after we returned home, who had just been to Amsterdam, I realized that they stayed at the Pulitzer hotel, which we did not know when we were there. They loved the hotel - so I can give a recommendation for that as well. They said all the rooms are different and they really loved their room. I think everyone would really enjoy a stay at the Pulitzer hotel and definitely get a reservation to Pulitzer's bar- you won't be disappointed.
