Today at 11:19am my husband called customer service to look into the status of the specimen collected from me on December 31st. He was transferred to an individual named Mariah Marmol, who stated she was a supervisor.
He spent roughly 46 minutes on the phone with this person, who placed us on hold at least twice, for 10-15 minute intervals. When she returned to the line it was like she did not remember what we needed, so she obviously wasn't placing us on hold to check anything.
When my husband asked for my test status, Mariah Marmol kept referring to an older test that was taken on 29th and insinuating that the issue was with my testing "back to back".
She then sent two links to my email from LabQ with OLD results showing that I'm negative, when I know that I am not. My husband is currently COVID positive and I have a 102 fever as I type this.
Several of my colleagues have parents in nursing homes. This level of negligence could have cost lives.
Mariah Marmol directed us to the speak with the testing site where this specimen originated, and we informed her that we'd already researched this, as this was the first thing we'd tried.
When my husband asked about the whereabouts of the specimen taken on the 31st, she became defensive and irritated, accusing him of claiming that LabQ lost my test sample. I could hear my husband going back and forth, doing mental gymnastics trying to re-explain himself to her that he wasn't making accusations, but merely asking a question. I didn't like the way she was speaking to him, and I could see he was getting nowhere so I took the phone myself.
Marmol stated that she *could* begin an investigation into the situation, but would not because she had no new information she could share other than what was discussed in the phone call, and that she would not send any emails.
When I tried to tell her that I HAD an email from the LabQ site where I was tested with the QR code, dated 12/31 if she needed something more to begin an investigation, she proceeded to speak/yell over me for the remainder of the call, with canned Customer service script and refused to address any part of what I'd said. I requested to speak to someone else; a manager, or anyone who might be her superior. She wouldn't acknowledge my request to speak to someone else. I finally just hung up on her.
We understand the current backlog, we get that accidents happen, allow for human error, etc. But If a lab is unable to account for a specimen because it's whereabouts are unknown -- please just own that. Provide a courtesy email when requested so that folks can update their employers accordingly.
Also, if taking a test too close to a prior test causes an issue and invalidates or causes a "duplicate" in the system, a notification should be sent to the person immediately so it can be clarified and processed or said person can at least take a new test without waiting pointlessly for 5 days for something that isn't ever going to arrive.
Finally, please have competent employees answer your phones. The first person my husband spoke to did nothing but log into, and read back to him, the info listed on my portal page which I have full access to already. She did absolutely nothing for me that I could not have done myself.
As for Mariah Marmol, considering the fact that she kept making the same error over, and over again, referring to an outdated test I already had access to...and sent it to me AGAIN two more times, coupled with her abhorrent customer service skills; she doesn't seem like she should be supervising anything.
This level of incompetence is more than an inconvenience. Failure to provide timely documentation could cost folks their livelihoods, and outdated test results can cost people their lives. Your employees should take their jobs seriously.
Mariah Marmol provided me with outdated negative test results via email, twice. I can furnish both of these emails upon request.
Thank god, I actually READ The report date and didn't show up to work to expose my coworkers elderly parents! read more
