When I had arrived I expressed to the lady at the front desk I needed urine cut to be sent for culture by my doctor , I already could feel from her she was not in the best moods. She gave me a regular paper cup with a lid on it like for coffee. I expressed to her that this urine sample needs to be sent in sterile cup and she said there's none to wait when called for blood work at the back. When I arrived at the back for blood withdrawal I immediate expressed to the same lady that I was the front (she happened to be the one designated to draw out my blood) my concerns about me having blood drawn. I told her I have very tiny veins, slow thick blood flow always. I even hydrated very well 3 days before blood, brought my own warm compress for my arm because I've been through this enough, I know my own body. My doctor order very extensive blood work because I have many issues and auto inmune condition. It was at least 15 vials of blood needed. She stuck me 7 times, gave me a hematoma in the back of my hand, this is the end result. I asked another employee if they could help at some point, my initial lady "Ms. K" was her name. She told me she's done this job for over 25 yrs but it was her 2nd day rotation there. I'm not trying to put anyone down but sometimes many years on the field does not equal quality of the work. I work in the health care system myself. When I had asked if another employee could step in for help she did not like it but the other employee even acknowledge how bad the hematoma happend in the back of my hand and I had immediately notified her it was causing me extreme pain and burning when she did it but she said "you just have to let me do my job"! Even the other employee recognize the damaged and felt horrible and apologized "Ms K" went and said we're all going to get in trouble bc we've spent nearly 2 hours on one patient. The other employees then went on to say we can't send the bloodbwork incomplete , you're going to have to redo and come back. I told her do not try my other arm, I know for sure you can never get anything there's, I know my body. You go through many patients a day and probably with better veins. I only have one body but I know it very well I told her. I told her I just need someone to be patience enough to look for a deep vein so we can get this done the proper way. Valerie usually takes my blood and she is excellent. She's very fast and I barely feel a thing. My doctors had prescribed a home blood tester but it was flakey to use. The bad: We had an appointment at 9:45 but waited until 10:45 to see the doctor. There was only 1 doctor there, he was treating 1 patient when we arrived and there was 1 patient in front of us. The two nurses at the front desk were extremely unprofessional. When we arrived they still had 1:15 left for their shift and were already loudly complaining to each other how they couldn't wait to go home. The one nurse set up the station in the care room for the stitches and did not wear gloves or wash her hands before touching equipment. They left right at 11pm and left the doctor alone with us for the remainder of the care. The next day my partner needed to pick up antibiotics that they said would be ready. When he arrived he found out they cancelled the prescription without informing him. He called Chai care and they said they would send it to a different pharmacy, but they never did. They closed early for the day (summer Friday schedule) and never followed up before closing. My partner ended up having to do a telehealth appointment elsewhere to get a new prescription in time

The OBGYN provider I talked to for a birth control consultation (Dr Raul Rios-Doria) was dismissive of my questions and concerns. I asked him which hormonal IUDs they offered and he said "they're all the same" which is incorrect. And he kept insisting that I get the pill even though I told him i had bad experiences with the pill previously. I ended up not choosing anything because of how upset I was. This was the first time I've ever left a doctor's appointment angry and will not return to this practice.

The waiting room is a hodgepodge of people. There were a few people just listening to music, shows on their phones but no headphones, so it made it kinda difficult to hear when your name was called. I wish there was someone to enforce that a little bit. But overall, average American, NYC healthcare experience here. Their use of technology is kinda low, so it doesn't seem to have all the techie bells and whistles of some other places.

The line to enter was essentially down the block but I didn't let this discourage me from getting tested since I really wanted to know what my status was seeing that I was exuding symptoms (12/19). I actually had my lawn chair with me the first time around to prevent from standing on line for a long period of time. Each time the wait time was about two hours before actually getting inside to get tested. Once inside, the process of checking in is pretty seamless. When it's your first time there, you must fill out a one-sided form which is standard. After being an established patient, it's simply a matter of stating your name and date of birth. You stand in line for a little longer before actually getting swabbed. You're asked to wait outside for about 20 minutes to obtain a physical copy of your results. From my experiences here the staff is pretty kind and patient despite the anxious people who are on liine for a long period of time. Be aware of people who try to skip in order to "ask a question"! All in all, be kind and give the staff a break, they're doing the best that they can to assure that everyone's accommodated for. I won't be back here anytime soon since I'm a Healthcare worker and my job provides PCR testing (Saliva) where the results are populated the very next day.

However, it is my last visit that I'd like to highlight. I'm a little over 7 months and am a first time mom. As anyone who is pregnant or ever has been can attest, there's a lot of weirdness that is happening with your body and health. A lot of things are considered common and/or normal. So it's hard to know when one should worry or when something is normal. Prior to my visit, I was throwing up multiple times a day. I couldn't keep any food down at all. I'd be woken up from my sleep just to vomit. If I wasn't full out vomiting, I was gagging and choking on acid and bile. I thought it was bad heartburn and acid reflux. At my OB I complained about what was happening to me. They gave me a list of things to try and take. None of it stopped the multiple times of daily vomiting, heartburn, and then the respiratory issues that came as a result. Nothing I tried worked. I tried to drink water, electrolytes, eat bland. No matter what I did I'd throw everything up multiple times in the day. Needless to say, I was so weak, felt awful, and exhausted. My OB wanted me to rule out COVID. I headed to Kamin to get tested for COVID, and see if there was anything else I could do. When I arrived I was greeted by two young women, Katarina and Nechama. They were both lovely, so helpful, and very comforting. I felt like I was going crazy due to how sick I've been, and they were amazing with normalizing what was happening with me. Katarina tested me for COVID, RSV and the Flu. And updated the PA, Alicia. Alicia came in, listened to what I had experienced, and examined me. She confidently diagnosed me with Hyperemesis Gravidarum, a severe form of morning sickness. And explained in depth what HG is. She started me on fluids due to my dehydration, and gave me anti-nausea/vomiting pill. I'm telling you the relief was immediately felt! I literally could feel my strength coming back and the need to vomit decreasing. When my treatment was done, Alicia and Katarina noted my demeanor change. And I confirmed how good I felt. Alicia gave me a prescription for the anti-nausea/vomiting meds and told me to come back anytime I felt dehydrated. I was so excited to go back home as I was sure I'd finally get an uninterrupted night's sleep. I have to point out that there is a maternal health crisis among Black birthing people. So it meant the world to me, as a Black woman to not just be taken seriously in regards to my health, but also being treated with so much care and attention. I am so grateful for the team at Kamin who saw me that night!

My only gripe is that their online check-in sometimes freezes and my patient info can't be saved, so actual paperwork has to be done. I appreciate the fact that they're really knowledgeable about work comp cases but new info must be submitted each time because of the rotating staff of physicians. It's just a little annoying.
