The calamari, salmon & tiramisu were beyond tasty. You will savor the freshness in every bite. The portion size is very generous and appreciated, too. The food is well worth the price. The bread is also good with balsamic, cheese & vinegar. Service feels more like you are talking to family, and enjoy the music that takes you to the food destination, too.

I had such a cozy lunch at La Tomate. The space gets so much natural light, and the atmosphere feels warm and relaxed right away. The staff was incredibly welcoming, and our server was attentive without being overbearing. We weren't in the mood for anything too heavy, so we ordered two flatbreads - the prosciutto and the grilled chicken - and they honestly exceeded expectations. They're served on a thin lavash-style base, which made them feel light but still really satisfying. Everything tasted fresh and well-balanced. They start you off with soft bread and olive oil, which was such a nice touch. We were way too full for dessert, but definitely saving that for next time. Also, no exaggeration - one of the best espresso martinis I've had. I tried a limoncello spritz for the first time too, and I don't even like Aperol spritz, but this was completely different - light, refreshing, and really enjoyable. Honestly, it felt like such a hidden gem. I was surprised it wasn't more crowded - maybe because it was a Thursday - but it definitely deserves more attention. Definitely a spot I'd come back to.

Really enjoyed our dinner at La Tomate! We were looking for a place to eat dinner after visiting the Dupont Circle Christmas Markets and stumbled upon La Tomate and were so happy we did. They were able to seat our family of six quickly and the staff was very friendly our entire meal. The atmosphere was very cozy. We got lots of appetizers and main courses, my favorites being the squid, the octopus, and the calabrese. All of my family was sure their own dish was the best. So grateful to have found this wonderful restaurant!

Beets!

Had a delicious dinner at La Tomate. For the first course, I had a beet dish, but don't say "beets" it sounds too pedestrian. It was thinly sliced beets with a cheese "mousse" and strawberry preserve. Every piece worked and worked really well together. My description doesn't do it justice. I had the risotto special with asparagus and shrimp. If it's on the menu, order it. The service was pleasant, white wine good. If I lived in DC, I'd be there often. I only post reviews when it's very good, or I want to warn against something; I don't post in the middle. This was great.

This was such a cozy restaurant near DuPont circle. We were able to pop in without a reservation and seated near the big glass windows. It was great to people watch and the servers were very helpful. Our pasta was delicious and they even provided cracked pepper and cheese. The toast on the side was also a nice touch. This is a great spot for a quick bite that still feels decadent. The portions look small but I was full about halfway through. The pasta is rich in sauce and meat.

We stopped in and had a very good meal. I had the steak wrapped in prosciutto served with vegetables. My girlfriend had the pulpo. Our meals were really good. They were very tasty and expertly served. The server was really attentive and helpful with the menu.

Carbonara, risotto, pork ragu

I love their outdoor seating on their own little V island. I've had a few quality dinners here with friends after Phillips After 5, and it's usually spontaneous. My pork ragu hit the spot - not too heavy. The carbonara was loaded with quality cheese, and the seafood risotto added a lovely third element. I'm so glad they have a Hugo Spritz, too! It was a little hard to catch the attention of the server when we wanted to ask for olive oil (since they didn't bring anything for the bread) but that's a very small note.

Lunch special pasta with salmon

Went around lunch time in the afternoon. Nice location and nice man who seated me and recommended a linguine pasta with salmon that tasted pretty good.

Doesn't it look so appetizing

Had the most amazing dinner at La Tomatet! Natalie greeted us at the door as always with her effervescent smile and welcoming to her restaurant! We were seated immediately and had fantastic martinis! Izzy was immediately at our table and brought us bread and our drinks! We ordered Branzino which was the most amazing and white succulent fish that I've ever had! I've had it multiple times in Washington DC and this is the best Brandino that I've ever had and Roger fileted the branzino amazingly which was light and airy an amazingly delicious! Thank you Natalie and La Tomate for a wonderful evening!!

Pollo alla Cacciatora

This is the 3rd time I've eaten at La Tomate and it is so good! I had some family in town visiting so we stopped in on a Friday night and was able to get a table for 5 with about a 20 minute wait. We were all pleased with the dishes we ordered, and I especially loved the pollo alla cacciatora.

Cacio e Pepe
Ariana C.

Ehhhhhh I wanted to like this place so bad. The restaurant itself is very cute and quaint. The wait staff could have been more attentive, but everyone was very kind. I ordered the squid ink pasta, which was a little too salty, and my cousin ordered the cacio e pepe, which I wish I could've gotten! All in all, it was a fine experience, but I don't think I will be back.

Affogato
Arrt T.

Presentable items but not very memorable taste. The wellington was barely warm when it was served. Tastes fine, potatoes were cooked well, but would have preferred a hot meal on a cold rainy day. My friend ordered medium rare and got it basically raw. Affogato was great. Cute place for a date night and located in Connecticut Ave by Dupont Circle. Big glass windows and additional tented seating outside. Nice ambiance, no-fuss service. Just wish the food was better.

Location was great for a drop in while walking downtown. I had a Hugo spritz and espresso. Both were fresh and tasty. Service was attentive but we were the only ones in the restaurant at this time :)

Beautiful atmosphere, wonderful staff, and delicious food -- definitely a spot worth putting on your brunch list. My date made the reservation for us, which turned out to be a very good idea because the restaurant was hopping! Definitely recommend making one ahead of time. We were both in the mood for a cocktail, but decided to explore the mocktail drink menu. He initially considered going with another coffee since it was still early, but ultimately went with an espresso martini. I tried the French 86, and both were great choices. The espresso martini was smooth and well made, while the French 86 was beautifully fruit-forward. And I have to give my date credit -- a man who isn't afraid to try my fruity cocktail! For food, we decided to share the avocado toast to start and added an egg, asking for it to be cooked a little more rather than very runny. We were glad we did because the toast was loaded with greens! It was definitely a little messy to eat, but in the fun, "this is actually delicious" kind of way. Nothing embarrassing... thankfully. He ordered the chicken and waffles, which he completely demolished. The sweet-and-savory combination was a big hit. I went with the French omelette, and it was delicious -- rich, flavorful, and surprisingly filling. I could only manage about half of it along with the salad! Overall, a wonderful brunch experience. The atmosphere is beautiful, the service was attentive, and there were so many tempting dishes coming out of the kitchen that we kept noticing things we wanted to try. I'd definitely come back to explore more of the menu.

But, this weekend, I needed reservations for a group and they had what I wanted, when I needed it. So, off to the Tabard Inn we went. The restaurant is charming, quaint and old. It leans heavily into its unique character and not without some success. I felt like I was walking into the past. Old worn wood floors, old upholstered furniture that had seen better days, heck, the place even smelled old. But, rather than turn me off, it was comfortable and inviting, kind of like going to your grandma's house where everything looks like a museum but you know you're gonna get some love there. The staff could not be nicer, better, more friendly. They know how to "do" hospitality and do it well. The food was good, very good. I had the pork shank. I am telling you that I could only finish about 1/3 of it because the serving was so large. And the meat was fall of the bone, cut with your fork, tender. The flavor was rich and intense. Great job! The lamb chops looked fantastic. The fried chicken was just okay according to my spouse. Is the Tabard Inn the best restaurant in DC? No and, guess what, it's not trying to be. It is just trying to satisfy the diners. There is no haute cuisine here. Tried and true dishes, prepared very well. The other thing about this restaurant is its flexibility. You want to dress casual? Do it. You looking for a dress up, old fashioned sort of dining room? Yes, that works too. Romantic dinner with your special guy or gal? Absolutely! They seem to satisfy everyone here. And they definitely satisfied me. Will I go back again? Yes absolutely. Do I recommend the Tabard Inn? Of course!

I started here for my birthday with some escargots, fantastic. Pro-Tip: Don't forget you can dip that terrific breadbasket they give you with some of the leftover garlic sauce from your escargots. We both decided to split the Beef Bourguignon. The most tender beef you can imagine, you do not need a knife to eat, and it was accompanied with buttery goodness in the creamy potatoes and some carrots for good measure. For dessert we ordered the vanilla bean crème brûlée. French dessert at a French restaurant was a no brainer. The top of the dessert packed a crispy, sugary, slightly burnt tasting palate cleanser that definitely will keep you a pick me up, who needs an ECT shock to get the heart going when you can take a scoop of pure sugary bliss! Novice was the bartender and recommended the Proper burger. I added my typical fries and a Diet Coke. The burger came out quickly. Right off the bat, it's visually amazing. A properly stacked Burger is hard to find. The 2 best things about this burger are 1. The taste , and 2. The form of the burger. The taste is absolutely fantastic. The Gouda paired perfectly with the red onions and the perfectly cooked, juicy beef patties. The aioli was just enough and not overbearing, like looking at a painting of a castle and noticing the subtle blurred background of misty forest. The arugula added another layer of flavor that helped kick this burger into the highest echelons of Burger superiority. And of course, the brioche bun was perfect for this style of burger. It kept its shape while I gently smushed it down in my hands. The entire burger kept its shape and didn't fall apart like some other Burgers will. As I sank my teeth into the first bite, the first thing I noticed was all the flavors blending together. Each bite afterwards just added to my mystified and puzzled bewilderment. The texture was moist and soft. As I chewed and swallowed each morsel, I began to think to myself, is this it? Is my search over? Is this the BEST burger in the country? Never had I tasted such a wonderful burger! (Sorry In-N-Out 2x1, raw onions, chopped chilis, toasted bun, you are no longer on the top of my list). As I neared completion of my newly discovered epitome of gluttonous desires, a feeling of sadness started to take over. I would be done with the burger in a few more bites, and with that, my journey would conclude. I sat there, staring at what would be my final bite. The last bit of pleasure in between my slender fingers, still dripping with the juices God had placed there after it was grilled to perfection in the Kitchen. I placed the final delectable piece into my mouth. I spent what felt like an eternity chewing this treasure before finally gulping down the goblet of wonder. What came after was a feeling of pure bliss. I had finally done it. All the years, all the time dedicated to finding the best Burger ever, is complete. I called my wife and told her "Honey, it's time. I'm coming home." The fries were ok.
