This is my go to place to eat when I've had a bad day, and I just need a really good meal to make me feel better lol! My husband knows all I want is tacos! We like the birria tacos, the chile relleno (stuffed peppers) and the shrimp and garlic I believe it's 100! Oh also the pollo special. As soon as you sit down, you're going to get service, which means you're get chips and salsa right away and your drinks will come soon after that! we have been coming here for so many years and love it!! read more

We are fans of the La Tolteca in Crofton so we decided to give this one a try. Four stars for the service, but the food was below average and not nearly as good as the Crofton location. Will make the drive up there next time. read more

La Tolteca is one of several Mexican restaurants in the Southern Maryland area, so my review is based on what's available locally. Their prices are unmatched--by far the most affordable we've seen. Compared to Mexico Restaurant in White Plains, just up the road, we typically spend about half as much and receive larger portions at La Tolteca. The service is consistently good, the food arrives quickly, and we've never had to wait more than five minutes for a table. There's also a bar located at the back, along with plenty of seating throughout the restaurant. All in all, when it comes to value and portion size, La Tolteca stands out as the best Mexican dining option in Southern Maryland. read more

Whoever is writing these reviews are LYING!! First time trying and only did because so many people were walking in decided to give it a try. People are nice however the guac taste and smell like it came from a bag/ not fresh and tasteless.. no salt no lime no onions.. I expected it to be house made giving the look of the restaurant. Also ordered chicken and shrimp fajitas, it looked nice but upon tasting it it was flavorless, no salt no seasoning. Very disappointing I will not be back!! read more

This is the perfect place if you're looking for quick and inexpensive Mexican food. My family has visited this place a few times and the kids love filling up on the free chips and dip that come free, but I would definitely recommend ordering some of the white cheese to go with them! It is delicious and they give you a bunch so you can also pour some of the cheese on your meal. During this visit we tried their seasonal watermelon margarita and they are amazing! Its a must try, if you like to drink. My husband ordered the carne asada tacos and poured some of the white sauce on it....he finished those things quick!!! I had the huevos con chorizo lunch special (it came with wraps, which I didn't get in the attached picture). It was a huge portion for being a lunch special so I ended up taking half home for later. Everything was great! And even better, affordable! read more

AWFUL BIRRIA. Birria consome is OIL instead consomé. Disgusting I don't know what they add to the tacos that are creamy as well. That's not how birria tacos should be. read more

The Food was good however the service very slow it took a while for the drinks then for the food

Really nice place to enjoy with family and friends. The food was amazing. The staff very friendly and professionals. Definitely best place to eat different meals. read more

Went on a Saturday drive to MD for some Mexican food. Did some searching and ended up in La Plata at La Tolteca. Not disappointed at all and worth the trip, lunch specials on a Saturday too. I got half a beef tip chimichanga w/refried beans and a watermelon margarita. Very filling, beans had cheese, chimi was topped with lettuce and sour cream. The margarita tasted just like watermelon, yummy. Elroy got a ground beef enchilada and taco, with rice n beans. Received 2 rounds of chips, salsa was sweet and fresh ( as in made today). Definitely will return. read more

They serve very good food. Service is prompt. The atmosphere looks authentic. I would recommend.

We've tried here a couple times and have been disappointed in the flavor and spice of the food. We have done take out twice. They've not given us utensils or napkins both times. Not a fan and probably won't give them another try. read more

Went out for a night on the town with my girlfriends and we stumbled across La Tolteca. We were quoted a 40 minute wait but they were able to shave it down to just 20. I grabbed a rice combo sort of dish and it was impeccable. Our server was very polite, although I unfortunately can't remember her name. The only note I have is that the food took quite a while to come out. We had already downed our drinks before the appetizer even came out and that was a pain. Otherwise, good service, good food, will be returning soon. read more

Need a calm Taco Tuesday to go to? Then La Tolteca is the spot to go! My bestie and I got the birria taco special which was recommended by one of the locals, who seem excited this restaurant was seeing new customers. And for good reason because I'm sure I'm going to become a new regular with the tacos we stuffed our face with. If you not familiar with birria tacos, it's beef fried tacos packed with all of the heavenly goodness like chopped onions, cilantro, cheese and plenty of seasoning. The broth the beef was cooked in is used as a dipping sauce (which is to live for) paired with green salsa and Spanish rice. Top it off with a heavy handed margarita and your Taco Tuesday will be sufficient. The staff is extremely welcoming and courteous and kept our drinks full. I'll be back next Tuesday or tomorrow or any day that starts with a "T"! read more

The service is great! Our waitress was very kind and precise with our orders and also checked on us multiple times to see if we need anything throughout our meal. The food is delicious and flavorful! It was brought out quickly and is always hot, ready to eat soon after placing our order. The strawberry margarita was so good but the watermelon margarita has a flavor to be desired. The atmosphere is chilled and relaxed. Also, this is not a fancy restaurant. It is very homey and comfortable and I absolutely love this place. read more

Good food, fast service, and great location for me. Good clean family friendly restaurant.

Service was quick and food came out quick. The taste was a bit bland. My kids thought it was just okay for Mexican food. Not sure if we will visit again. There are better places in the DMV. Can't beat the prices here though. They are very reasonable in price. read more

No matter when you eat here, the place is always packed to the rafters. The food is outstanding, the portions are very filling and they treat you like La Familia. Family owned business and the staff is always on point, no matter how busy they are. They make sure everyone is satisfied and you never have to wait an extraordinary amount of time to be served. If I could give more than 5 stars I would. This is the absolute best Tex-Mex place in La Plata, MD. read more

La Tolteca - 131. Shrimp Fajitas, Combo Dinner 28, and two burrito specials, cheese dip, and salsa and chips - Mexican Near Me - La Plata, Maryland

We haven't eaten in the restaurant, so my review is based purely on take-out (so the front staff service and food itself). Tolteca has become our go-to for my wife and I when we don't feel like cooking. The food has always been what's expected and worth the price. We've probably ordered from there two dozen times now and the food has always been the correct order and hot when we picked it up. The staff has always been pleasant and quick, even on nights when they're crowded. When it comes to Mexican food, this is the closest we've found (in MD, VA, and DC) that matches the food we're used to on the southern border in California, and we love it. Food recommendations: Every pork and steak dish we've ordered has been great, but the ground beef and meatless options seemed to lack flavor. I'm partial specifically to the birria and my wife the chicken tamales. The green salsa is spicier than you'd expect Great chips, as far as chips go. We always order additional bags. The cheese dip is a watery consistency, but still has good flavor. read more

I came here for a bday invite for my cousin. Honestly, was really impressed with the fast service and how delicious my food was when it came out. The place definitely authentic and just welcoming. My group was large and the waiter was very patient and gave great recommendations. My drinks were super strong, like I like them to be. Also, I ordered the Texas fajitas which came with shrimp, beef, and chicken. My husband had a burritos and ate all of it. It was really good, again the food tasted like a nice home cook meal to me. I'd try this place again and order something different on the menu. read more

The quesabirria tacos are amazing. My tummy is so happy! Highly recommend. I will be back when in Maryland again.

This Mexican restaurant was great at all, but the thing is after I'm a be burrito I don't know if the waitresses could hear me screaming in the bathroom but it really hurt. I didn't have food poisoning anything but my stomach was hurting for a few days. I wasn't hospitalized, but I had to take a few medicines and everything was good. It took a little long to understand what they were saying. I don't know Mexican like that. I do take Spanish class with my family but everything was good and all except the fact that I made a broken toilet seat from taking a poop. Sorry for the inconvenience, but three out of five. read more

We probably ate here at least two to three times a month , if not more, and we are familiar with most of the staff from being regulars. We planned to have dinner here with my mom and sister the other day and joined their table about 15 min. after they were seated because we were running late. My mom informed the server that they had 2 more coming. When we got there and sat down, the server "Justino" never returned to the table. My husband made eye contact with him several times but he would not even get within 10 feet of our table. We waited 30-45 minutes for him to return, and nothing, so we asked a nearby server "Armando" if he could get our server. He called out his name, and he came over with a huge attitude and was extremely rude to us and told us that he will not be serving us because there are other people waiting to be seated and we cannot jump the line and join a table. First, the wait for a table was 15 minutes. We had already been waiting nearly 40. If he told my parents that we couldn't join when they said they had 2 more coming , or even when we got there and sat with them, we would've had no problem putting our name on the list and waiting to be seated with my parents. Doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me, as we wouldn't be jumping anyone considering that we're joining a table already seated. I didn't mine waiting longer for food, but I'm pregnant and after nearly an hour of waiting there I was dying of thirst. But he didn't say anything to us or my parents he just ignored us for the entire time. My mom hadn't even ordered an extra side that she wanted because he never came back after seeing us join the table, and when she said this to him his answer was "I already closed your check after you ordered. It's done." and he walked away from the table without even letting us finish. The server Armando scolded him for the way he was talking to us and told him that he can't talk to customers that way. Armando was extremely friendly and was apologizing for the other serves attitude. He let us know that he will be informing the owner and offered to take our orders. At this point, I didn't even want to eat anymore so I declined. The worst part was, we knew Armando told the owners and they didn't come out to apologize or anything. They know us as we are regulars, so this really surprised me and showed me that they don't care about customers at all. Mexico Restaurant offers Coctel de Camarón anyway, so that's another reason to go there from now on instead. read more

I've been here a couple times the food is alright but it's always cold and the service sucks. Today I ordered pick-up and they gave me the wrong thing and the food was cold and didn't taste good. First off, let me say the wife and I were longtime fans of La Tolteca restaurant in Waldorf before it closed down about 3 years ago because of the pandemic. As they specialized in Mexican cuisine, we went to various places trying to find good authentic Mexican food, but could "get no satisfaction" (Insert Rolling Stones song here!) We had just left the Blue Crabs game, so since we were hungry, we decided to try La Tolteca in La Plata. To use a baseball term, "They knocked It out of the park!" The food, service, ambience, price, overall dining experience was excellent. I normally would give a review of the food, but why read about it when you can drive over there, and judge for yourself. Trust me.....you will enjoy it. Highly recommended. read more

My FAVORITE Mexican spot to eat in the tri county area. Service is fast, food is ALWAYS HOT, and good. Them Margaritas are strong but yummy. The drinks will get you RIGHT! Don't go drinking them margaritas if you're on a date with some strange man. You'll wake up naked and afraid girl!! Lol!! Food is authentic, complimentary hot fresh chips with salsa & the queso is on the ONE. Great lunch break food if you're in a hurry too. I love the Waldorf location. I've been to all but Waldorf is quicker to me. Food is good at any location though. Burrito Del Mar and shrimp fajita salad are my favs. And the margaritas!! The Chile verde is the best I have had in Charles or PG county. The staff is always friendly and courteous.

The food is consistently very, very good no matter what you pick, and the service is also personable, helpful, and prompt. The table salsa is really, really good and the chips are chrispy even in high humidity. The chili verde is worth repeating; I have had it several times. I have not had a dish that I did not enjoy. Thank you! read more

This is a good and fast Mexican restaurant. The menu is pretty big with a decent lunch menu. The service is pretty fast for lunch, which is a big plus if you are in a hurry. I definitely love that more salsa is brought without having to ask for it. I need to ask if they have a spicy version. The portions are large and plentiful. The food tastes good too. The chips are corn based instead of flour. I love the soft crunch they have, but not so much the flavor though. They have lots of beer specials, so I can't wait to come for drinks. read more

Good food and ambiance. Typical Mexican food served fresh and fast. They have take out options as well.
