American style Mexican food. Decent portions at a decent price. Service was okay. Restaurant is a little dated but okay.

Tableside Guacamole
Joyce C.

Weekend lunch date with my daughter and granddaughter. We started with margaritas, of course! Good and not too strong. We had the tableside guacamole, which was NOT prepared tableside, which knocked them down a star in my book. The guacamole was good and fresh, but name it something else if you are not actually bringing the cart over to the actual table! The service was good, and the food was tasty. We had Birria tacos and chicken nachos. Everything was fresh and authentic. We will return.

Queso Birria tacos. They were SO good! It has queso instead of shredded cheese. Comes with cilantro, onions, pickled onions.

I can't wait to get the queso Birria tacos again, they were so good. We also got the sampler appetizer that came with chicken quesadillas, chicken flautas, and beef nachos, also good. I wasn't a fan of the rice and beans but everything else was very good.

Chix & Beef Taquitos and Seafood Chimichanga (fried)

I ordered this takeout while traveling and was really impressed by the food's quality, packaging, and taste. They also had a decent bar that had sports on their tv.

Vegetarian fajita bowl

Cute location, kichsy but lovable indoor decor and small outdoor patio. Given the geographic location, it was pretty good. It's not fine dining but it is solid tex-mex. I have a really soft spot in my heart for taco salad bowls and was only too happy to give the fajita bowl a try. It was delicious! Wish more places would give it a try. We spent a huge amount of time sitting on the patio talking after finishing our food and didn't get any pressure to leave, other than being offered the dessert menu. Pricing reasonable and if I was in the area again, it is a place I would come back to

Family friendly

The staff here are our favorite. We had stoped going since having so many bad experiences but we have since decided they have stepped up their game! We came right before Halloween and they were packed but we still got our food in a timely manner.

I have dined at the El Charro in Dale City and the El Gran Charro in Stafford, Va for over two…read moredecades and have always left with a great dining experience and satisfied. So knowing the quality of the food and the expectation I found myself in the King George area and knew there was a El charro somewhere and decided to grab lunch and see if it was up to standards as the other locations. The restaurant is located in a small strip mall just off of Route 3 in King George and if you blink you can easily miss it. The restaurant was clean and well lit. They weren't to busy and I was seated fairly quickly and given a menu. A few minutes later the waitress came over with the chips, salsa, and ranch style dip they give to the customers and asked if I would like something to drink and if I was ready to order. I ordered a Tall Blue Moon, Cheese Dip, and Enchiladas Supremas. The Enchiladas Supremas consists of 4 Enchiladas of one Chicken, Beef, bean, and cheese topped with lettuce, tomato, and sour cream. It arrived and looked fantastic and was what I was expecting as I dug in to them and boy did that change quick with each bite. The meal not up to the standards I have come to expect and know of El Charro and was disappointed. The enchiladas were bland and lacked any flavor, it was like someone forgot to season the food. Another problem was with the beer. I am not sure how a nice frosted mug of ice cold beer could be terrible but this location managed to make it terrible. I am not sure if the lines need to be cleaned or the beer was bad but if you have ever drank a Blue Moon you know there is some orange citrus flavor to it, this brew tasted as though it was washed in chemicals and then served. The location needs to look in to why the beer tastes weird or get fresh beer. The only thing consistent with this meal as the other locations was the cheese dip, that was on par and great with the chips. I hate to say I would never dine back at this location again it I would be willing to try it again but with maybe other food choice.

I really wanted to enjoy the food there but it was bland and flavorless. The margaritas are good…read morebut not good enough for me to return to dine.

From the moment we walked in, we were immediately greeted, seated quickly, and treated with such kindness. The service was attentive from start to finish and our order was taken promptly without ever feeling rushed. The food was absolutely incredible. We ordered the chorizo cheese dip, birria tacos, and the al pastor street tacos, and honestly... this was one of the best Mexican meals I've ever had in my life. Every single thing was packed with flavor, fresh, and clearly made with care. The birria tacos were rich and perfectly crispy, and the al pastor was unreal. This place alone was worth the drive. If you're anywhere near Port Royal, this is a MUST visit. We'll absolutely be stopping here again.

We were seated right away and then the place filled up. The chips and salsa were good. Chips warm and salsa was mild. I prefer more spice but for the GP this works. If you ask they do have two more salsa, one green and the other Red is which I wish I had when I was eating my Taco salad. The Taco salad was mild they say you can request for it to be spicy which I will do next time. If you are passing through the area and want some mexican give them a try. If you like your mexican food with a little heat, ask before you order, I think everything is cooked mild.
