I've had the opportunity to dine here at least a half-dozen times, and a few things have remained consistently impressive: kind and welcoming service, fresh and hot food, and prompt attention from the staff. Thoroughly enjoyed the food here. I'm super excited to find a Mexican/Spanish cuisine restaurant that doesn't drown everything in cilantro. The prices were reasonable and the parking is plentiful. I went midday on a Sunday but I'd love to see what it's like on a weeknight or Saturday night. They have a bar and seemed to have good drink specials, but I didn't try any this time around. The Birria quesadilla was delicious and the meat was tender. I got beans instead of rice and I liked that they were blended up. Everything was seasoned well. Yummy. Definitely worth checking out. After he said thats not true, they said they best they could do was take off one quesadilla... my spouse isn't confrontational so he cowardly said ok and paid andleft. I truly enjoyed my meal at Salsitas. While the guacamole doesn't compare to what you can get in Mexico or Panama, it was pretty good. And the salsa they also provided with the chips was very good. I couldn't stop eating them! I had the steak and chicken fajitas for my meal. The meat was tender and well seasoned. It came atop a bed of peppers and onions, which also complimented the meat well. They also provided your choice of corn or flour tortillas (I chose corn) and you get rice and refried beans with a little pico de gallo and guacamole. This place gets a solid four stars for taste. Warm chips and fresh salsa come out to start. I ordered the chicken fajitas which came out hot and fresh with onions, red bell peppers and green bell peppers. One of my favorite things about the fajitas was that the vegetables were whole and not incinerated. The flavor was great and not salty. The meal was served with pico and beans but in my picture you'll see double rice as I am allergic to tomatoes. Our waitress was very attentive and provided us with a large glass bottle of water for the table. One of the orders was served lukewarm warm, but as soon as this was brought to the waitress's attention she had a new one prepared. It was only the entree that was warm so I'm assuming that everything was not ready at the same time when the meal was plated. Nice chill spot. Cool vibe. Good food. I really want to give 0 stars. My husband ordered a H2O, which is a Long Island with none of the sweet stuff and diet soda. The bartender put sweet stuff in there anyway. Went on Cinco de Mayo and had a small wait but well worth it. The service was spot on and extremely attentive. Plus the ambiance was very modern. The food very delicious and came out extremely extremely fast. Got the fajitas the chicken was nice and thin not thick chewy chunks. It was flavored perfectly and still extremely juicy and the shrimp cooked just right as well w/veggies to tie it all in. We've been to this restaurant before and usually love it--the food is normally piping hot and really delicious. Like REALLY good. Unfortunately, tonight was a completely different experience. There was absolutely no heat in the building, and we were freezing the entire time. The food was just okay this visit, which was disappointing given how good it usually is. Between the cold temperature inside and the food being a bit off, the whole experience felt uncomfortable and rushed. Think they might have new owners/managers. They now charge $3.50 for chips and salsa (used to be free). Waiters don't have a clue. Asked about the waitresses we liked and were told that "they left". I would absolutely suggest trying this place. It's a hidden jewel in La Plata. I went on a Friday a little after they opened up. I found the decor to be cute and the restaurant was very clean. For Charles County this is a 5/5 place. It's 4/5 in the DMV (DC/MD/VA area) However, the prices reflect that, IMO, so my liberal rating is a CC focused rating. Besides, it's a relatively newer establishment and that is also factored into my rating. The 2 of us ordered tacos and shared them, mixing them. The tacos were good and the Margaritas passable. The bartending skills need sharpening and if the margaritas are pre-mixed, they need a different/better pre-mix. There are outdoor tables but it was a tad to windy for us. It was plenty sunny on the patio and a couple that came in after us sat outdoors. Our waiter was pleasant and efficient. This is now our "go-to" Tex-Mex place since it's nearby. Made my first visit Wednesday Night. Had the Shrimp Diablo. It was fresh and tasty, but about a 5/10 for heat. If you like spice ask for a little something extra. The rice was the surprise in this dish, the spices and aromas build as you work your way through the dish. The queso Appetizer was the best queso i've had, definitely try that while you study the menu. These three dishes, beverages, and the queso dip cost $78.00. Ambiance and Location: Salsitas is located in the same plaza where Giant is and Bollywood Masala (right across from Lowe's in La plata). That should already give you an idea on the ample parking. We've been wanting to stop by for a while but decided to eat there today, and boy oh boy! Food: Birria Tacos and Birria Quesadilla were both super yummy and rich. I recommend ordering one non Birria item so that you can break your the richness. The rice and fried beans were the highlight of our meals because we didn't have any expectations , our main focus was the Tacos and quesadilla. The rice and fried beans are delicious! I mean everything no truly was on point taste wise. My hubby also ordered the speedy Gonzales and again, super yummy although the beef in this was just okay I would have it again with a different meat choice. Service: We stopped in on a Sunday around 1pm or 2pm so they weren't packed but it was a cute ambiance. I loved the bachata playing on the background and their cute hollower decor. I've seen this spot while shopping at a local grocery store so while out with my daughter we decided to check it out. It a restaurant with the typical decor not fancy more like the tables and booths you would see at a fast food restaurant. The waitress was extremely attentive and the host was nice as well. We didn't have to wait long to get our food. My daughter had the salmon tacos which she loved and I had my typical fajita whenever I go to a Mexican restaurant. I enjoyed the fajita. We also had the cheese dip with chorizo delish. All the food came out hot ( temp). The whole meal was about 50 bucks plus tip for two people. Hey you can't beat that in the dmv. What can I say about this place, nothing less than phenomenal!!! Let's start from the beginning, the place shows a bit of casual dining experience with some touches of Mexican influences, not too much nor too little. Seating for 2 adults and 3 kids under 10 seems a little tight for the booth which is where we were seated. It was very clean and also the ambiance was laid back with a lot of spices filling the air. Now let's get to the appetizers, they come out with a lovely glass bottle of cold water and two glasses for the adults. The chips and salsa that came out were completely out of this world! Oh the simple taste of fresh salsa was so mesmerizing and relaxing to eat. I know it sounds a little crazy, but my word it was tasty. It was too good I asked for another small bowl of the salsa, my 4 year old daughter and I tore it up! We also ordered the white queso, that of which came out on a small cast iron pan with a small garnish on top. That was also delicious, just not as good as the salsa, don't judge me. We order the kids chicken quesadillas that came with Mexican rice, our oldest ordered the Tilapia with shrimp that came with Mexican rice. I ordered the Salsita Enchiladas, my wife ordered the Birria Quesadilla. She also ordered the Sex on the Beach and another beverage that had hibiscus and liquor in it. Ok, let's talk about the taste of the dishes since I just told you about what was ordered. The kids food looked very appealing and they loved it, every bit of it. the oldest one's food came out smelling wonderful. The tilapia was cooked perfectly with a light brown/golden crust to it, the shrimp was grilled to a nice texture. Yo know not too hard not too soft. He loved every bite of that as well. I had a small bite of his fish and let me tell you that it was seasoned very well. The wife's meal looked like the picture and tasted even better than it looked. Her vegetables came out very fresh looking, not the kind that looks pre packaged. The quesadillas tasted astoundingly home cooked, you know that taste of machined foods vs home cooked meals? The cheese tasted of premium quality and so dod the carne asada that was inside. You can usually tell the cheese by how smooth it is, the grittier the cheese then cheaper it is, remember that. Then my meal was 3 ways of deliciousness. Each enchilada had a different meat inside. One was chicken, another steak and the last one was carnitas. The black beans that came with my meal tasted so freak and so damn flavorful, I mainly ate the refried beans because they were so damn good! Service was good, I was seated right away, asked to sit outside and was obliged. Parking lot is shared as this restaurant is in a shopping center but there is always ample parking. Interior, ample seating and they also have bar and outdoors seating. The bar is a little tight and shaped weird, but overall I was comfortable. I ended up coming inside once the wind picked up. Speedy Gonzales: one chicken taco, one chicken enchilada, with rice and black beans . This meal was good, the chicken was a bit dry but I would order again. It still had a good flavor profile. Mango margarita: this was nice and strong, next time I'll order it with top shelf instead of house liquor. You know how we do, we rate based on Food, Ambiance and Service! Ambiance (5 Stars) we walked in and the restaurant was clean and had a pleasant smell. Nothing to loud as far as music, very pleasant place. Service (5 Stars) our waiter was very attentive of our table, made sure our beverages were filled and our order was accurate. Food (5 Stars) surprisingly the food was great actually! I say surprisingly because very few times so I find a Mexican restaurant that hits the first time. I usually have to do some extensive searching through creditable sources and I haven't found to many in this area. I had the Birra Quesadilla and it was well seasoned and good! First off, the food was Excellent! This time, I had the enchiladas (1-chicken, 1-steak, and 1-pork). They were good to prepare the plate in accordance with my dietary restrictions, as I requested. The meats were tender and seasoned well and the rice and refried beans were top notch. The preorder tortilla chips and salsa were fresh and we mowed through two baskets of chips. The restaurant itself is not small, but the tables make you feel like you're right on top of the people next to you.
