Really good. Growing up and living in Southern CA for almost 40 years, I've tasted all kinds of good and bad Mexican food, and this is definitely way on the 'good' side, especially for some random place in the middle of Montana. We ate here two days in a row - we had their Tinga burrito (which is basically like a spicy carnitas), verde enchiladas, breakfast burrito, and chile relleno. Everything was honestly just really good. On top of that, the prices are very reasonable. Just a great no-frills type restaurant. Plus the workers there were all extremely friendly and genuinely seemed to care if we enjoyed the food. I doubt I'll ever be back in Bozeman again, but if I am, you can bet I'll be coming here. read more

She told me no I don't serve sour cream at my restaurant and got very rude and angry. Was a very weird experience. Why have a bottle labeled sour cream right behind you? Really Delicious. The service was great, and we watched as the corn tortillas were made. Our family of 6 was eating very quickly and everything was great we all left full, and prices were reasonable. I ordered 2 Chicken Tacos with beans and rice on the side. Just a quick lunch, but wow it was good. I enjoy Mexican food but won't claim to be an expert at telling you just how authentic it was or wasn't. All I know is that they make their corn tortillas daily, and you can taste the result. I've been a customer of La Tinga (Bozeman) for years (also at their downtown location before they moved). Their food is down right delicious, the service is always delightful and the options are simple. Some menu items change weekly to mix it up which is another quality about La Tinga I enjoy. One week they'll have a chile relleno plate (fried pepper stuffed with cheese) and the next week green chile enchiladas. I grew up in a Mexican household, have family in rural Mexico and La Tinga is what REAL mexican food looks and tastes like. Corn tortillas are made fresh daily (also used for their chips), generous portions; this is Mexican comfort food people, authentic, nothing extravagant, just simple and delicious. After finding this sorta authentic Mexican restaurant on an isolate road and before 2pm (closing time), I was excited to eat what my friend called real tacos. Upon walking in there is a big CASH ONLY sign which doesn't bode well for a 21st century restaurant. That didn't slow me down because I come strapped with hundred dollar bills, however only dollar bills are necessary here due to the relatively cheap prices. I ordered 2 tacos w/ mole which came with rice & beans. These were average Mexican street tacos with mole on them, pretty good. I did try the only hot sauce they had which was boasted as reaaaaallly hot. It was medium hot. There were no condiments or extras that I enjoy at my usual taco spots. A long time staple of Bozeman, La Tinga provides the most authentic, simple (and take this as a good thing) Mexican meals you will find in SW Montana. The food is incredible, the service is excellent and everything is very very fresh. You won't find over complicated TexMex here, you won't find shredded lettuce and government cheese covering your plate, but you will find amazing and traditional Mexican flavors with ever bite. So disappointed with La Tinga on my recent visit. I always enjoyed the food and service when it was on Main Street. The fish tacos were very small and virtually tasteless. Skimpy serving of beans and rice as well. My La Tinga taco fell far short of expectations. While the woman who runs La Tinga is always welcoming and kind, the gentleman at the counter was gruff and not very pleasant. I love this place but I'm giving it 4 stars because their hours are so limited. If they stayed open on nights and weekends I would go more often. Don't let the location affect your opinion - it's tucked away in a residential area but the food is authentic and the tortillas are handmade. Save your money. Go to Taco Bell instead. The portion size is small the food is flavorless the atmosphere is non existent. I had to pay extra for lettuce and cheese on a "burrito" that looked more like a disappointing taco. There rice is reminiscent of food cooked for life giving caloric intake not of food cooked for enjoyment. Number one, they don't take credit cards and they don't have an ATM machine. I stopped at a lemon aid stand that took cards. Get with it guys! Number two, cook your tortillas! Amateur hour, who wants to eat a taco on a raw corn tortilla. Seriously horrible! Three, the menu is small and I tried most of it very home cook and everything has the same flavors. Nothing different. Four, when you get a togo order they don't even provide you with a full clam shell. If the food was good it could be viewed as charming/different but it's not so its just cheep.
