Ordered takeout during a trip to Napa in COVID times. Everything I ordered was delicious. Can never go wrong with patatas bravas. Flounder bocadillo was also a nice surprise! Little gem salad was a larger portion than I expected which made a great leftover for the next day. Only challenge is parking to pick up the food. Delicious tapas! The beef and mushroom empanadas were packed with flavor. We especially loved the seared halibut on a bed of corn based sauce. It's a combination of flavors that was different but worked really well. The Sangria was also spot on and satisfying. Service was attentive and friendly. I think this was more interesting eating than the food at some of the big Yountville restaurants which I think are just resting on their laurels. read more

The reviews do not do this place any justice. I am a regular here and have literally ordered everything on the menu. You have to be open minded here as they do serve items such as crispy pig ears. If you are not accustomed to having an open palate to different things then this place may not be for you , although there is something for everyone. This is a sister restaurant to Zuzu (next door) another top 3 favorite spot for me in the Napa area. Think of being in Spain at a local bar that serves seasonal local food and drinks. Its not fancy,they serve Spanish small bites/ tapas style. My boyfriend and I usually will come here for drinks and have a few dishes before we head off for our main dinner at some restaurant nearby. Its a great place for a small light meal and a glass of wine, although my boyfriend will have a beer instead. The menu changes seasonally but my favorites are anything octopus, squid, or anything they have cooked a la plancha (think of a seared, grill type of cooking that's very fresh with minimal ingredients which lets the food's true natural flavor shine through). Its a very relaxed , open seating, and chill environment. It does get packed around after 7pm, best time to come is around 5pm or earlier. Its great for 2-6 people, anything more than that be prepared to stand. Her is my tip, go to Zuzu next door and put your name on the list, if the wait time is around 45 minutes then head on over to this place to pre-game on some food and drinks. As with any tapas restaurant, its about the small plate journey. Ours began with the special, spanish version of amberjack sushimi and ended with the honey/pepper cheese empanadas. The cheese and charcuterie plates were fantastic but the crispy pork belly, glazed ribs sandwich and beef cheek empanada were on another level. Came by last night and sat outside since the weather was nice. Order the crispy pig ears, beef cheek empanadas, and the ceviche. All were absolutely delicious. Staff was friendly and welcoming, they were also following the COVID safety health guidelines: social distancing, masks, and sanitizing. Fun new place in Napa and like nothing else on the main drag. Hip vibe with great cocktails and delicious food. A friend and I stopped by here last week and this is going to be a regular hangout. Since it's first come, first serve, prepare to battle it out with everyone that arrives after you! No list, no order, so just bring out your guns and battle! Wow, where to start... First of all, the vibe: La Taberna has that busy, cosmopolitan vibe that you'd find in a hip joint on Valencia in SF. It definitely stands out as a unique new place in Napa. Second, it's a bar; not a "real restaurant", so there may or may not be seats available. No reservations. You may be standing in a corner, or you may have a table. Who knows? That's how they "do" La Taberna, so be aware that it's not a sit-down-and-here's-the-menu restaurant. Speaking of menus, the only menu you get is for drinks. The wine menu seems to be geared toward affordable sharing of bottles, but many by-the-glass choices exist. The food? It's listed on a blackboard behind the bar. And the food? The food is unreal. My wife and I ended up getting a few plates; sucking pig, crispy pig skin, two different types of empanadas, potatos, mushrooms, and flan. The tip-top of the culinary ranking is the suckling pig. Holy mother of pork products, this is the stuff of dreams. It was one of the most perfect dishes I've had. The balance of the fat, the savory, and the texture sitting on a small bed of delicate mirepoix...man, it was nuts how good it was. The other dishes were all very good. The only item that wasn't a total home run were the pig ears, which seemed to have a glaze that was a tad heavy on vinegar for my tastes. The service was very attentive and friendly even given the fact that the place was packed to the eyeballs with people. I have high hopes that La Taberna continues, because it's a real asset to downtown Napa. I'll definitely be back and am already looking forward to my next visit, whenever that is. read more

Just so everyone knows: No reservations, no "list." It's technically a bar, not a restaurant, so you have to wait for seats to open up if you want to eat. Having said that, the food is wonderful. The suckling pig was probably the best thing we ate, but both of the empanadas were great (one stuffed with oxtail, the other stuffed with cheese and drizzled with honey). I also vote for the mushrooms and the potatoes (the sauce they serve with it has a similar flavor profile to the paella two doors down at Zuzu). We also ordered the pig ears, and while the sauce was really good, the texture was not for me (although it may be for other people, so I'm not going to ding them for that). We also had a slice of the goat cheese flan, which was so dense and rich it defied description. The service was incredibly attentive, especially for a bar. La Taberna is amazing. Location/Atmosphere: 4.5/5. It's got a great location. The interior is nicely styled. My one complaint here is they don't give out paper menus for the food--it's all written on a blackboard that is right by the bar. So you have to go and stand by the bar to read the menu. This is somewhat awkward, and made more awkward by the well-meaning but condescending suggestion that you just "take a picture on your phone" of the menu and head back to your seat...How about you just print a menu, La Taberna? The drink list is printed out... Service: 5/5. The waitstaff is very knowledgeable about the menu--every time we asked for a recommendation, the suggestions were excellent. Food: 5/5. It has been a while since I have had such a wonderful (and incredibly reasonably priced) meal! La Taberna exceeded all my expectations and took me back to my trip to San Sebastián in Spain with their creative pinxtos menu (see picture). The server recommends about 2-3 plates per person and the family style shared plates makes it easy to try lots of dishes. Our table loved the jamon iberico, braised oxtail empanadas, foie gras, and the flan/cheesecake for dessert, but honestly almost every plate was delicious with spot on flavors. My boyfriend has a childhood friend who lives in Napa and is a Master Sommelier at a boutique winery in St. Helena. He recommended that we meet him here for some wine after dinner. If that doesn't say it all right there, I don't know what does! Their beer and wine list is fantastic. We had a delicious bottle of Rose and enjoyed catching up! For food, they have a variety of Spanish Tapas {small plates} that change regularly. The space is pretty small so I would recommend coming here with parties of 4 or less. Maybe 6 max. Cute interior, our server was awesome, great wine and beer selection, and our food was AMAZING. So good we returned the next day for a quick snack on our way out of town. I believe the menu rotates but we had: pig ears (delicious), chicken bocadillo (I really liked it, but others at the table said it was just fine), tuna bocadillo (good to ok depending on who you asked), pork belly empanada (I liked it although it was a bit sweet which others didn't like), pulpo (not anyones favorite, but not bad), tuna crudo (delicious) and best for last - the lamb tartare. Having been tobthe sister restaurant Zusu a number of times, had obviously too high expectations for menu choices at La Taberna. Tapas can be a Spanish delicacy when done right. When told by the server that a mackerel based choice was served from the can at the table was just an absolute turnoff. Mackerel can so easily be fried as a tapas, but from a can at the steep price?? This is a sound check on what is Spanish tapas. Add to it the server flippant attitude, we moved on to other dining options. It also seemed ice tea was not a viable option for the designated driver. Outdoor seating was reminiscent of those found in Spain and could be significant advantage if menu were matched. That needs vast improvement along with the server attitude. read more

My daughter and I stopped at La Taberna after a wine tasting tour. This was perhaps the most delicious food I have ever had! It was original, unique, and whoever created the recipes made flavors that were scrumptious. What a pleasant surprise! We started with Flounder Ceviche-Aji Lima, avacado mousse on a tostada. It was just so tasty, don't know why, but wow. Next, we shared the pork rib Bocadillo, with a chili pepper relish, jalapeno, carrots and onion. Just so flavorful! We originally wanted to eat at ZuZu's for a bachelorette, but as they don't allow reservations, we couldn't get in. We walked 3 doors down and ran into this little gem. The environment was totally different, more of a bar scene, but the bartender Blaize was awesome and invited us to join him at the bar. His service was phenomenal, and even though the rest of the staff seemed snobby towards us, Blaize was respectful of us the whole time. He had no issues filling our waters all night, and making recommendations for Tapas. We got about 10 different tapas and they were all phenomenal, plus, we were able to share them all with a small party. Service was quick, and the experience was very enjoyable. We were upset as we asked for a table and they kept telling us "no there's other people we're seating first" even when parties were filtering in after us being seated, but we didn't contain as our bartender was giving us great service at the bar. If you're looking for something a little more low key with great food, we would highly recommend. Just be wary as a tourist (or if you're not dressed in designer) that they may not treat you with the best care. read more
