This is real Italian, just like my Nona and generations before taught us. 3rd time here. It just keeps getting better. My friend had eggplant parm. She received 3 slices of eggplant -cut lengthwise, not circles, side pasta & salad. It was a meal for 2. I got the pasta fagioli & a tomato salad. The pasta fagioli was rustic & flavorful. A thin tomato broth base with cannellini beans & pasta that was seasoned perfectly. I want to offer constructive criticism for the benefit of the restaurant owners, but I'm very sorry to report that every other pizza I have ever had was better. My friend and I ate a couple pieces, took the rest home and had to throw it out. The crust was definitely not homemade and that's okay, but this tasted like a bad version of pre-made crusts. I have always enjoyed the food here and today was no exception. I asked if I could have a white sauce mixin with my red sauce and if I could have Angel Hair instead of regular spachetti. Problem is that she should have told me that there would be an additional fee of about $10 for those substitutions. I was also made aware that there is a 4% service charge when you use your credit/debit card. That is an inconvience that I do not agree with. Even fast food stores except electronic payment. I am ashamed that until last night I supported, and would proudly promote this restaurant. My husband and I frequent this restaurant often and due to a Medical Issue, I always ask for no red sauce on anything I order. Last night I ordered the veal Parm dinner no red sauce and just some butter on my noodles. When I received my meal it was covered in red sauce so I called La Roccas with the intentions to simply ask for a replacement, mistakes happen, it's a busy restaurant no big deal. But I was treated in the most disrespectful way. I was told that I was WRONG, that I ordered a veal parm dinner (which comes with a side of spaghetti, small salad, and roll) with no red sauce and that saying no sauce does not, in fact, make that a veal parm. That what I should have said is that I want a piece of veal with cheese added, a side of spaghetti, small salad, and a roll. A new lady came onto the phone and since there was no introduction I tried to explain my story again. Her response was yeah, ok, what do you want me to do about it? After going back and forth about how I was the one who was wrong and she was, in fact, correct. I felt at best I had been belittled and embarrassed since I could hear employees in the background laughing at me and making fun of me. I asked if there was a manager or supervisor around and to my surprise, she responds with that's me, I'm the owner, now do you want a credit for your next meal or what? I said I do not want a credit as we will never eat there again, but at this point in our conversation I would like a refund (I was going to say in exchange for her food back) but she rudely interrupted me and said well, that's not going to happen. No, you're not getting a refund. What else do you want? I guess I had no choice but to ask as instructed a piece of veal with cheese. I was then asked when I would pick it up.... Clearly, I want this delivered since I got it delivered, to begin with she said fine if he has to make another delivery or has the time he'll get this out to you. The most amazing delivery man ever (thank you to whoever is the delivery man with the beard, you sir are kind) he did deliver in a very timely manner; unfortunately, it was what seemed to be a childish "I win" statement. My replacement meal was just 2 pieces of gray, floppy, Luke warm meat with cheese not even fully melted. My heart breaks that there is a business owner out there that can treat another human being like trash. I was in tears and shaking from embarrassment, Frustration, and pure rage. I'm sure there is a huge fan base since overall the food is good and this could possibly be a very delightful woman but if I did, in fact, speak to the owner and she chose to treat a customer in this fashion then I truly feel sad for someone that bitter. Shame on me for not trying this restaurant sooner. We were looking for a new place to have pizza. On our way to Elmton I suggested to my husband that we might like to try LaRocca's instead. We loved their pan pizza. We ordered it with pepperoni, sausage and peppers. The crust has a nice crunch but is not dry, just the right amount of red sauce for us, and the red and green peppers tasted so fresh but they were cooked well. I could see other people ordering other items. The portions looked very generous and the salads looked scrumptious. This restaurant goes to the top of my list for pizza and although they do have a carry out, if you enter the restaurant the atmosphere is warm and quaint. read more

I called yesterday to place a take out order. The young man that answered the phone and promptly told me to hold please. 10 minutes later the call was disconnected. I called back and he answered without speaking and hung up. I repeated this a couple more times with the same results. Finally he answered and said they are closing early tonight and hung up. I drove to the restaurant to find it open with the dining room bustling and the hours posted that they close at 8. It was 7:00pm. I reread my La Rocca's review and saw that one of my big complaints was the lack of an online menu. They've since updated their Facebook page to include a menu so I figured I owed them another star. I've eaten here and gotten takeout many times since my original review. I prefer takeout as the portions are a little bigger leaving me with plenty for lunch the next day. My only complaint is their salads are really boring and they recently stopped selling crumbly blue cheese making them even less interesting. It's sad that the pathetic city of Youngstown has to bring down great establishments such as La Rocca's. Wait, this IS the only great establishment in the area. The place is the convincing favorite for authentic Italian cuisine. In a metropolitan region that could be unofficially dubbed "Little Italy", La Rocca's beats out the other family owned joints without a doubt. I somehow need to convince the owners to move to San Diego and open up shop. Pining for delicious Italian and a taste of home, I've tried numerous places that claim to be "homemade and authentic". The effort has left me disappointed, frustrated, and even more in love with La Rocca's. This place is the real deal. The food REALLY IS homemade. For my family, it's the top favorite along with the dinners a local bocce club hosts twice a year. La Rocca's does everything great every time. I've never been dissatisfied in the past 15 years. The cavatelli and capellini primavera dishes are excellent choices. Don't forget the wedding soup too. But neither are the stars of the show... The classic spaghetti and meatballs. Not gonna lie, the balls I could forgo, but the pasta and sauce are out of this world. Traditional and delicious. I enjoy purchasing two orders, one for dine-in and one to-go. Leftovers aren't even a possibility from round one, that's for sure. Round two doesn't even make it to the microwave after a night in the refrigerator. Sounds weird, but the flavor and texture is so damn good cold the next day. Now THAT'S a sign of phenomenal pasta! The La Rocca's Special pizza. Until today...I placed my usual to go order...only to arrive 15 minutes before the time given to me and here my food was already sitting and getting cold. Then when she was ringing up my bill I peaked in the bag and discovered half of my order was missing....when I mentioned it, I was told "hold a second, I'll grab that". Then looked even further and asked "blatantly" when did chicken franscaise come with mushrooms...and without even looking into my bag/order said "no it's right...that's how it always is". A family restaurant that is not too bad. Pasta is made in house and is very tasty (a little overdone for my taste though). Everything comes covered in their red sauce which is garlicky and yummy. Reading the reviews about the treatment of a recent repeat customer has me absolutely not frequenting this establishment. Eating out is a luxury for most and that means my hard earned money goes to those that truly love serving their customers, and would do anything to make them happy. Seems like leaving red sauce off of an item is a saver for them as the customer was paying for it anyway. Too bad this place handles customers in such a way. All the owner needed to do was refund for the situation and this customer would have understood it was a bad day, instead she said, not happening. Who does that? Okay, La Rocca's is tough because their homemade pasta and meatballs are great. What's not great is how terrible their service has gotten. Their prices are unreasonable (especially considering how many equal if not better options there are saturating the Youngstown/Poland area) and their delivery is primitive. Order before you're hungry, that's for sure. But, if you can tolerate being treated poorly in store or for delivery, their house dressing on the salads is really, really good - a nice vinegary Italian that plays perfectly with olive, tomato, and mozz - and their pasta, again, is essential. I come to Ohio 2-3 times a year from SC and always look forward to eating at LaRoccas. So this past Monday evening, around 6pm, my elderly Mother and I went so I could get my "fix". The dining room was fairly full, but the sign said to seat yourself. We sat down at a booth that had not yet been bussed which was fine. (Lots of dirty dishes and a tip of $10 was on the table) We noticed that there were 4 servers working, and 2 female ones were talking to people at one table as we arrived. Several different servers passed by our table, and a busboy came and bussed the booth behind ours but none said anything to us. At first, I thought that maybe our server was one of the two who were talking and laughing to the customer a few tables over. After 10 minutes of no one making a move to acknowledge us, we started to wonder where our server was. The customer the servers were talking to had gone, so we hoped to be waited on at last. At the 12 minute mark, I began writing a note to the manager. Finally, after waiting almost 20 minutes, we got up to leave. The only male server was at the booth next to ours and we announced that we were leaving because not one person said they'd be with us in a moment or even hello. He stated that he thought we were the people who ate all the food on the table! With people seating themselves, servers should be paying attention to the people coming and going! I handed the note to a girl at the carryout section to give to the manager. We left and went to Inner Circle Pizza which was packed. Not only were we seated immediately, but within 5 minutes had a drink in front of us and had placed our order! I'll never give LaRoccas my business again but will head to Inner Circle where the food is AT LEAST as good, if not better with servers who actually pay attention to their customers!!!! read more

LaRoccas is pretty good. The pizza is very hearty with a nice thick chewy crust. The sandwiches ate good too. I love their prosciutto sandwich. A little more highly priced. But that is to placate the snobby rich people in Poland who don't think a break is "quality" unless they spend a lot of money on it. Just read the review by Mike L. above. Full disclosure: I personally did not eat there. I live in Huntington Beach California, my Mom still lives in Poland. Since I could not be home for her 70th birthday, I offered to call in a dinner order as a birthday treat. The waitress who answered the phone was super kind as I explained my unique situation and a very specific request...wish my Mom a happy birthday when she picks up the order!! My husband had heard good things about this restaurant so we decided to check it out. The service was ok. The ambiance was just ok. The food was awful! They brag about their homemade dressings and sauces, but they are from a jar. The ravioli was frozen. The Italian dressing was golden Italian from a big cafeteria tub, served with bagged lettuce and shredded carrots. Canned sauce can taste ok if you add some spices to it. They literally open, heat, and dump. The meatballs were disgusting. They might have been homemade as frozen ones would have been a welcome diversion to the ones that were served. The hot peppers and oil were poured from a jar with no bread to go with them. We were given a basket of stale, hard bread that could not even be sliced with a knife. We also got a small pizza. I would go to Walmart and get a 99 cent party pizza instead. With all of the Italian people who live in the area, I cannot believe they tolerate this awful food! All I can say is if you're in the mood for some pretty great Italian food forget about Belleria or Alberini's or Olive Garden - GO TO LaRocca's in Poland. Some of my favorites are the Cavetelli, homemade and best eaten al dente with red sauce, and the Linguine with Red or White Clam Sauce, you will not find a good clam sauce like this anywhere else in the valley. I have visited this restaurant twice, both for takeout orders. The food is consistently good but the service needs work. Both times I ordered food from them they have messed up the order. I ordered the same thing, homemade spaghetti and meatballs plus add an order of sausage. Each time I order this, the person taking the order gets confused with the addition of sausage (which is 2 pieces of sausage). Well the first time I orders these items, I received one meatball and two small pieces of sausage, each an inch in size. The second time around, I again only received one meatball and this time one piece of sausage and a much smaller salad. It's a good thing I didn't leave a tip either time, I got charged $2.25 for nothing, so I guess that was their tip. My advice to anyone who places a takeout order with La Rocca's, is to open every container in your order to make sure you got what you paid for. read more
