For her second drink, she told the bartender to surprise her. He gave her a look and asked more than once if she was sure she wanted him to surprise her. Instead of making her an actual cocktail, he poured her what seemed to be a straight, extremely bitter liqueur. The whole interaction felt sarcastic and like he was intentionally messing with her rather than trying to make her something she would enjoy. What bothered me most was the attitude behind it. We weren't being rude, demanding, or causing problems. We were there to have a good time and experience the whole "tell us what you like and we'll make you something" concept. I did call the number listed for the business afterward trying to speak to someone about it. The person who answered said I had the wrong number and didn't know what I was talking about. I got angry during that call and said some things I shouldn't have, and I can admit that. But that doesn't change how disappointing the experience at the bar was. We expected a creative and welcoming experience and instead left feeling like my wife had been mocked. I hope management sees this and addresses it, because the concept of the place is great, but the way we were treated completely ruined it for us

The menu seemed to have changed the last time I went & lowered in quality significantly. I'm not sure if it was new management or a temporary condition but I would say that the drinks were nearly inedible. For example the old fashioned riff I had was bourbon, angostura bitters, and anise. It seemed to be missing a sugar component like a simple syrup. It was also smoked but the smoke was very synthetic in flavor. Additionally some of the other cocktails ordered by the group were just of a much lower quality at Pastiche. A lot of the drinks were artificially sweet & had chamoy & tajin rims. I think these drinks are good for certain places in San Antonio but I've come to expect much better from Pastiche. I'm so very bummed by this new development in what is usually a very great experience & atmosphere with some amazing cocktails. I hope this isn't the beginning of a "new pastiche"!

I arrived without a reservation, but that wasn't going to work so I made one about an hour ahead and just waited it out. I'm glad I did. I couldn't decide between the white mole cauliflower and guacamole to start so I got both. It would be hard to imagine not having either as they are both really special dishes. The tortillas and honey butter that came out are basically like having your dessert early. I think the highlight of my meal was that I was eating a green onion, and one of the servers walked by and in the nicest possible way suggested that I didn't know how to properly eat it. He was correct as it turns out, after he showed me how they did it around the kitchen table growing up I enjoyed them so much more. Both super cool and brave of him to suggest. Great seasoning, perfectly flaky and moist, a nice crust on the outside. With that we had some jalapeno corn bread which was also delicious. Not too dry at all. I was hoping for it to be spicy but it was not. For dessert, I gad panna cotta and it was a great ending. Not too sweet, but the berries made up for that. The lavender meringue bites had a great crunch. Our server (Maya) was excellent. She was so friendly and helpful. Finally, the decor is unmatched anywhere. It used to be a brewery and they kept the old pipes and valves, which look very cool. It has a great vibe. I highly recommend. Without the need to, I'll mention anyway that it's not cheap. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case. When we walked in, we sat at an almost empty bar. One bartender made eye contact with me from the other side of the bar, then looked away. I figured she might have assumed we needed a minute to look at the menu, even though a simple "Hi, I'll be right with you" would have been appreciated. I was only ordering a beer, so I didn't need much time. Three to five minutes passed with absolutely no acknowledgment. No greeting, no "I'll be right with you," not even another glance in our direction. Meanwhile, all five bartenders were standing together behind the bar talking among themselves while we were completely ignored. At that point, we were getting frustrated. We even stood up, hoping someone would finally acknowledge us. My friend suggested we just leave, but I couldn't believe what was happening. As we started to walk out, I decided to go to the other end of the bar and ask if we could order. I approached one of the bartenders and politely asked, "Excuse me, are we able to order?" She apologized and took our order right away. What really left a bad impression, though, was what happened next. After we received our drinks, one of the bartenders who had been standing with the group turned around and said, "Have a nice night," in an unmistakably sarcastic tone. It felt completely unnecessary and unprofessional. I've never experienced service like this before. Being ignored for nearly 10 minutes in a mostly empty bar with five bartenders on duty was disappointing enough, but the sarcastic comment afterward made the experience even worse. If management or the owners would like to verify what happened, I encourage them to review the security cameras. We arrived around 8:50 p.m., walked to the other end of the bar around 9:00 p.m., and this occurred on July 4.
