The service was awful since we first stepped in the door. We were seated and a server brought us waters, didn't even bother to look at us and when he said "oh hi!", no reply. Another server then showed up minutes later with menus, when we received our dinner, she never brought our entire meal. When we asked for it, she rolled her eyes and then never came to check on our table again. No refills, no check ins. I had to go to the front again to ask for to go boxes. Best veggie burrito I've had. Cauliflower, broccoli, cooked well. It was more of a sit down burrito, not the kind you normally eat with your hands. But really good. Quite low price for the quality of the food; about $11? Salsa was just so-so but for the price, I'm not complaining. La Posada is very hit or miss. They have some staff that is friendly and amazing. Unfortunately lately I've been only seeing the lady who refuses to smile and is not very friendly. The chicken tortilla soup can be amazing but for $15-$20 a bowl, lately it hasn't been worth the money. I didn't get any chicken in the soup this last time. I ordered extra avocado in the soup because they can be light on the avocado and they charged me an extra $5 and didn't even put a whole avocado, that's crazy. Clearly overdue based on my check in count. Sadly I have only had the smart phone for over a year. I come here sometimes for the bar and other times for dinner. Atmosphere - A strip mall restaurant. Vibrate colors give you that authentic feel. We sat a rounded booth but the table rocked, and not just a little. There was definitely something wrong with the table to leg. Wobbly tables annoy me. Food Drinks - Just water tonight with my meal. Appetizer - Free chips and salsa. We order a side of guacamole dip, it was fresh and tasty. I could have eaten that all night. Actually I had a hard time stopping, and worse I knew that the burrito was going to be big. Dinner - I had the #22 the Burrito Especial with the Chile Verde. Love the 'Verde' tomatillo sauce, had a very mild kick which went well with the pork. It was a burrito, and filled me up. Maybe I should have stopped before finishing it. Service - The baskets of free chips never emptied and neither did my water. The waitress was great. Future - Of course I will go back. read more

Birria... a Mexican word describing one of three dishes, a barbecue style goat topped with delicious salsa roja, a Mexican stew with goat meat, or stewed and braised beef in a warmly spiced and savory tomato salsa. At La Posada you'll find option 3 on the menu, and it's a dish that I discovered here, and a dish that has been bringing me back here over and over again for the last 7 years. On the surface the dish seems simple, beef, slowly braised until tender in a tomato based salsa with some herbs and spices, but one bite of this stuff and you'll know that hours of time went into making it so perfect. There are some rich and complex layers of flavor here that come from carefully selecting the right chiles, roasting the spices like cumin and cinnamon, and adding them to the stew at exactly the right time. The dish is magic, and the warm tortillas, onions, cilantro, and guacamole, are the perfect accompaniment. To wash it all down I highly recommend the top shelf margarita. Buyer beware, these drinks are strong, but oh so satisfying. If I don't feel like tequila I go for an ICE COLD Negra Modelo on draft. La Posada is the best place to get it in town! Jose, his sister, and the entire staff here are incredibly friendly and treat you like family. The service is on point and very fast all the time, and there really isn't a bad dish on the menu. The reason for 3 stars instead of 4 is because this past visit just wasn't as good as the others. It kind of sucks to give that rating after being a customer for so long, but something was off. I hope since they opened the new location in Carson this one isn't sliding. I'm going to go back soon to find out for sure. read more

Called in a pick up order for 6 people and everyone's meal was made correctly and all tasted delicious. The order to pickup time turnaround was awesome. We ordered and we able to start driving to the location within minutes. One of the orders was nachos and the restaurant thought ahead to put the wet ingredients on the side in another container to prevent them from becoming soggy by the time we got it home. I don't often venture to South Reno but we were in the area and decided to give it a try. The first time I came was for the very first official Yelp Event in Reno. Our esteemed CM (Michael T) hosted a meet and greet with drinks and appetizers. I was very impressed by the food, the Margarita, and the overall ambiance of the restaurant. My husband and I came back for lunch to make use of the the gift certificate I had received at the Yelp Event. We were greeted warmly and were seated right away. Our drink orders were taken (no Margaritas for lunch) and we were given time to review the menu. Chips and salsa were brought and are included in the meal. My husband had the Chimichanga with shredded beef and I had the two cheese and chicken enchiladas. (entrees were $10.99 each). Both meals were very good and generous portions. The ingredients are fresh and it was a nice balance of meat and cheese and vegetables. The enchilada sauce was just spicy enough to make it interesting, but did not overwhelm the mild cheese and shredded chicken filling. Great guacamole was served on the side. The beans were OK and I am not a huge Mexican rice fan, but the bite I had was good. Overall, it is a solid restaurant that consistently serves good quality meals made from fresh ingredients. It will most definitely be a repeat visit when we are in that part of town. read more

I'm always looking for a good Chile Verde plate or burrito, today I went burrito. Same as picture on album, I'd say it about dollar size, smaller the most places. The sauce is really good and tangy not spicy at all. For the size of burrito I'd prefer more meat inside instead of more beans. The Mexican rice is very good and freshly made as it's fluffy and flavorful. I'm going to return and try other dishes on my return business travels. See you guys again soon. read more

Prickly pear margarita OTR is delightfully refreshing!!! They have mango flavor as well which is not as common at most places that serves margaritas. Our server was attentive and courteous. This is what I call Mexican. The home made chips are light and crispy, the salsa smooth and spicy, and my 4 year old son said the guacamole was "scrumptious." I agree. I ordered the carnitas platter and my son ordered the chicken burrito. He was offered fruit with his burrito (awesome!), and I had the usual sides of rice and beans. The carnitas melt in your mouth and the salsa verdi was very tasty. While we were enjoying the meal we overheard the folks at the table next to us talk about how good the breakfast is at La Posada. Check out the $6.99 specials photo I uploaded. Some good food to be had from 2-6PM daily. We missed 6:00 by a few minutes, but would be worth it to get here early next time. While I don't find myself in this part of town very often, I'll definitely be going to La Posada Real again...soon! read more

Ok, I've been back twice since my last review and I've decided it's time to add a star. Here's why: -the margaritas are fantastic. -camarones al mojo de ajo I had last time were so good -this time I had a tamale and a chili rellano and they were both good. The tamale may have been a little heavier on the masa than I usually like but at least it was good masa with lots of flavor. The rellano had no heat at all unfortunately but the batter was perfection- light and eggy. -I had black beans with my meal this time and I really liked those. And their rice is really good too, and the beans and rice together could satisfy me as an entire meal. -those chips. They have some of the best chips ever in the whole world. Also, the salsa is good. -I tasted some of my son's cheeseburger and fries this time and they are both good too. read more

Mexican food a lot of times is hard to go wrong. Be let me tell what makes this place a stand out and Oh So Right. You are greeted and seated with a friendly host into a place that reminds you that you are a family restaurant with family owners. Nice an open, comfortable and bright. Then you are greeted with one of the best set of tortilla chips and salsa. The chips are nice and light. Fresh cooked and not salty. The salsa is spicy and makes you eat more and more. The kind that when you stop eating, your mouth starts getting spicier and spicier that only the soothing coolness of the salsa can quench. Only to later fuel the flame... it's not a bad habit, it's an addiction. I ordered combo #22 with 2 carne asada tacos. The meat was well seasoned and cooked perfectly. The other day we decided to try La Posada Real. After originally planning on going to the Spicy Pickle on the corner of Longley and Mccarran we decided that Mexican food sounded better so we gave it a try. We immediately noticed how busy it was when we walked in - there was quite a crowd in the front area (it *was* Lunchtime on Friday). We were told to hold on just a minute and after a few minutes we were seated. Our seat, while comfortable was right next to a door and was a little awkward and I commented (under my breath) that "the food better make up for this seat." After a minute we were greeted by a friendly hostess that asked us what we would like to drink, we gave our order and some chips and salsa were delivered a moments later. As soon as the chip with salsa hit my mouth I was impressed. Unlike several other Mexican places in town these chips were HOT and FRESH (not kept under heat lamps). They were perfectly crispy and their salsa has just the right amount of heat. "Ok," I said, "lets see if the rest of the meal is as good." We ordered one fish taco meal and a chicken and asada taco a-la-carte. The food came quickly and looked great on the plate. The first thing I noticed was the guacamole - it wasn't extra - heck, we didn't even ask for it and there was a nice big healthy serving of it on BOTH plates (yes, even on the a la carte tacos). It was a welcome surprise and complimented both meals well. The fish tacos were perfectly cooked, not dry and seasoned well. The chicken taco was great - especially with some of the provided pico de gallo salsa. The asada taco however was simply out of this world. Most places, if you order an asada taco you are going to get a few slivers of meat and thats it. These tacos were absolutely packed full of steak that had been perfectly seasoned and melted in your mouth. Needles to say we were both very impressed. The entire menu is very well priced and is quite affordable, especially if you go a-la-carte. I would make a suggestion that because the chips and salsa are so good, just skip the rice and beans and do chips instead. The restaurant was very clean and service was prompt. I can't give this restaurant enough praise - for us, it's definitely one of the better mexican food restaurants in Reno. Give it a try! read more

Went last Saturday for lunch. Very few people dining there, almost empty. Food and service were disappointing. Server spent about 15 minutes standing across from our table visiting with a friend. Our drinks were never refilled, never asked if we needed anything. Food was just okay, had a metallic taste. We waited several minutes for our check, finally went to front reception desk. Our server was in the bar visiting with other friends. She told us she was on her way to bring our bill, not really. She then went behind the counter and slammed the check and pen down, bad day I guess. Won't be back, too many other fine Mexican diners in the area. read more

Something about eating dinner on a table full of advertising is not appealing, neither is the windows covered in Christmas cartoons of Santa's, snowmen and holiday cactus, especially when Easter is next week! I will be honest. I ate here about 4 years ago(?) and i remember it not being very good. Ive tried it twice in the last 2 months, and things have changed! The margaritas are awesome, and its not a tiny serving. Chips were warm and the salsa was great. The menudo was soooo good, and it was in such a quantity that i had to get a to-go vat. My girlfriend and I got a kick out of the menu, which has a huge amount of selections, including Jalapeno "Pappers" and a steak "sanwish"! LOL! Aside from those snarky comments, we can get ALOT of food, and even cheeseburgers! The "Pappers" were actually good, and I dont think they were frozen! I've been going to this place for years and it has been one of my favorite restaurants in Reno. So why downgrade to 4 stars? Well, there has been a subtle but noticeable change over time. This restaurant has always been immaculately clean, with pleasant, friendly servers and an ever-present, owner who supervised all aspects of food service and delivery. He is a gem. This review is for him, because I respect him and his business, understand hard times, and hope any comments are helpful. During/after the COVID-19 disaster, I noticed some cost saving measures. Local businesses could advertise under a plexiglass tabletop (freaking brilliant!). A bit less meat and more veggies in the fajitas, and charges for extra tortillas (totally understandable). Prices went up, but food quality was still so yummy... This review is for 2 meals in the past month. About 2 weeks ago, I had a stellar meal consisting of one specialty drink and my favorite entree. I was not able to say hola to my favorite resturanteur because he wasn't there.. . Today, no so much. A bumbling server who didn't seem to know the menu, an overly sweet margarita with almost no tequila and a HAIR in the salsa. Again, the owner not there. I'm told they have opened another location in Carson City. I think this is a bad idea. This place was a goldmine with many faithful followers. Raise prices if you want, but either supervise the product or hire a competent manager. I love your business, but the next bad experience will be a 3. read more

Barely made it through the door and the hostess with braces and obviously fake eye lashes gave me the most disgusted look I've ever received walking into a restaurant. I smiled and said "we have two". She rudely said "you have to wait" without any greeting. I walked out and will not be back. Stellar service. I called the night before to place an order for an event at my job. They were fabulous in accommodating my time of pick-up the next day and the requirements of the order. When I picked up the food they, without even hesitation, while I was filling out the credit card slip put the food in my car. The trunk too, so it wouldn't spill or leak. They showed great initiative and care. I then left but forget a simple salad with grilled chicken. I called them back and asked if they could have one ready for me. They recognized my voice and asked if I had just been their for the fajitas. I drove back and they had it ready to go with out question. Now on to the food, it was delicious. The steak was juicy and tender. The chicken was tasty and perfectly seasoned. The vegetables in both weren't oily, but Welles grilled. The guacamole was perfectly seasoned and a great compliment to the meal. Everyone at the event loved the food and it capped a crazy day for all. Thank you to everyone at the restaurant who made lunch special for this event. We are planning after work trip to try their margaritas. read more

We used to go to this place regularly and the food and prices were decent. We stopped in today and noticed that they changed their menu and prices. The prices were up $2-$3 from the old menu. If I were going to pay those prices, I'd rather eat somewhere else that was worth paying those prices. We were almost going to eat there one last time but walked out instead. I was so disappointed about the price change as we were pretty much regulars there. I'm done with that place. Too bad. read more

Went here during lunch with a coworker. Place wasn't too busy and we went at 12. We were seated right away and received our drinks right away. But it took them another 15 mins or so for someone to come back to us to get our food order. The wait for the food was another 20-25 mins, we were starving and demolished the chips and salsa that was given to us. I ordered the steak nachos, which was very good and big portion for a great price! I hate it though when places don't include everything that's in that order, in their menu. Meaning beans, wasn't in the list of ingredients for the nachos and I asked the waiter to make sure there were going to be no beans, but when my nachos arrived, the entire middle layer had refried beans. I'm not a fan of beans, so I'm always careful to ask the server if my meal will have it. My coworker enjoyed her shrimp entree, it looked delicious! All in all, I would try this place again since it's a walk away from work and it's reasonably priced for big portions of tasty food. read more

Rip off! We ordered a take out of bean dip and a chile relleno. I asked if it came with chips and salsa as well and was told yes, just like in the restaurant. I noticed I had one small bag of chips which with the bean dip (1bag) and the salsa (another bag) wasn't going to be enough for all that we ordered. I asked for a second bag of chips and was told "no only 1 bag per order". I explained I had two items that each required chips so I would appreciate a second small bag, one for the bean dip and one for the salsa. She said I had to pay, so I did. 6.00 extra for a bag of chips that should have come with the order, at least according to the menu. So they got over 23.00 out of me for a chili relleno a la carte and a bean dip. Good job. read more
