Came here to celebrate our 1st wedding because we love us some boujee Mexican food! Overall, this place did not disappoint. There are definitely areas they could improve on, but I'm hopeful they will. I added a note to our reservation that it was our first wedding anniversary and I thought it was a bit disappointing that it wasn't even acknowledged and we were given a really small table (with oddly uncomfortable chairs) in the middle of the walkway, when they had booths available. Once settled in, we ordered a feast to try it all. We got an array of tacos with rice and beans, the salsa sampler, chorizo queso fundido, a flight of margaritas, and lots of chips. Everything was so colorful and fun! The queso fundido was delicious. The salsa sampler wasn't necessary, as the provided salsa was delicious, but I would definitely get a side of the salsa verde as well (delicious!) The tacos were all tasty, but they didn't double tortilla wrap them, so they fell apart upon picking them up which I feel is a bit of a rookie mistake. Overall I will definitely come back and try this spot again! It's worth a try!

Loved the guacamole! The steak ends were nice add-on. This and a side of beans and rice and a couple tortillas and dinner is served!

Been eyeing this place for a while and finally went. Vibe is good, but it can get a bit loud. Got three tacos (shrimp, asada and carnitas), guacamole with ribeye ends and a side of beans and rice. The shrimp was excellent, but the others were just solid. Good guac and the ribeye was a nice add-on. Upscale Mexican ain't my thing, but this was good. Will probably go back from time to time when I want to mix it up.

The husband and I came here for lunch on a Friday. We did not wait to be seated and we came at the right time because it filled up quickly. At some point, our server handed us off to another server and it was a little bit weird...she kinda had a bit of an attitude about it like I made her switch. Well, lucky for us. The second server was better than the first and didn't make faces as my husband tries to Frankenstein the menu. Of course, my husband got the salsa flight and we both settled on the tuna tostada to start. It was really good. One bad bite, though with the slicing of the tuna. I got the chimichurri steak and I swear I could just drink that chunky chimichurri butter. It was so delicious. The drinks were a little pricey, but really good. Parking was annoying, but we were able to find a free spot on the street. There was a sign alluding to some free parking somewhere, but I had no idea and it was a hot day so we were about to just pay but then we lucked out.

1st time visiting. Nothing I would go back for. The location is nice and offers some free parking on both sides of the restaurant. The dining room is spacious and laid out well. 5 adults went for lunch on a Friday. Some of my group was already seated when I arrived. So I can't say anything towards the welcoming and seating part. Our server Alicia took our drink orders and may not have been excited to be there on this day. She wasn't happy or rude, just kind of stoic. Once all of our party had arrived and ordered, we were brought chips and salsa, which were tasty. Chips were not stale and the salsa was pretty standard. Our 5 dishes were: 1.Choose 3 plate, shrimp enchilada Suiza, pork belly taco, and Mahi mahi taco with rice and beans. 2. Tortilla soup. 3. Shrimp enchiladas Suiza. 4. Rib eye tacos 5. Chicken Suiza Enchiladas and Tortilla soup. 6. Grilled chicken salad. The shrimp enchiladas were really good. Well flavored and tender shrimp. The pork belly taco was a little too smoky. Not sure if it was liquid smoke or actually over smoked. The mahi mahi taco was cooked perfectly but lacked flavor. The rice and beans needed more flavor. I had to ask for salt and pepper. The tortillas soup was a big disappointment. We actually sent it back and ordered a grilled chicken salad as a replacement meal. The soup seemed to have a lackluster amount of ingredients in soup base so dark, it tasted like it was straight out of a Las Palmas can of enchilada sauce. The grilled chicken salad seemed to be fresh and the chicken flavored well. The rib eye tacos were good. The chicken Suiza enchiladas were good. The chips and guacamole were fresh and tasty. The home made Flan with vanilla bean ice cream was probably the best thing of the day. I do like high end Mexican food with dishes or recipes that you cant get anywhere else that keep you coming back, but was not that impressed. And I really had high hopes for this dining experience. But just fell a little short for me. I did feel that Zoe, one of our servers, maybe the floor manager , really liked her job and had a genuine smile and seemed happy.

Spur of the moment visit on a holiday evening. Even though it was pretty empty, service was still friendly and attentive. Unfortunately, the spirit free drink options were unavailable due to missing ingredients. They offer happy hour from 9pm to 11pm on weekdays so we got a strawberry limon refresco, churros, and beer. For our meals, we went with the carnitas taco plates and quesabirria. Our beans and rice were flavorful. The main meals didn't live up to expectations so we probably have to try something else when we visit next time. The churros were delicious with the caramel sauce. Not a big fan of the chocolate sauce. Looks like a lot of appealing options to choose from and the location is ideal with other nearby restaurants. The inside was decorated in a trendy style and i appreciated the extra lighting at the table itself. For the most part, restaurant has dim intimate lighting with a couple of tvs featuring sports by the bar. I also observed the care taken into cleaning the tables outside and the emptying sections inside. Plenty of parking but, most of the other establishments were closed when we went so less of a challenge to find a spot. Could be different during the day.

I'm so glad I decided to give La Popular another try after my first visit! This time I came on a Thursday night to hang out with the girls, and we had such a fun experience. Thursday nights have some great specials, and we were especially excited about the margaritas. There ended up being a misunderstanding on our part about how one of the happy hour specials worked, but what really stood out to me was how they handled it. Rather than just telling us we had misunderstood, they took the time to talk with us and adjusted our bill to reflect what we genuinely believed we were supposed to pay. They absolutely did not have to do that, and as someone who has worked in customer service before, I really appreciated the care and personal attention they gave us. Elijah was AMAZING from the beginning. He took such great care of our table and made the whole experience fun. Then Lolly came over when we had the misunderstanding about the special, listened to us, and went above and beyond to make things right. The service on my first visit was already great, but tonight it was exceptional. That kind of hospitality makes such a difference! And the FOOD! The chips and salsa are still bomb , but this time I switched up what I ordered and found some things I really loved. I had the short rib tacos and chicken tinga tacos, and both were yummy. My friends ordered the cachetada tacos, which I obviously had to try , and those were delicious too! We also shared the guacamole, which was really good, and of course we enjoyed our grande margaritas. After my first visit, I had a feeling that maybe I just hadn't ordered the right things for my personal taste, so I wanted to come back and give them another shot. I'm SO glad I did. Between the Thursday specials, the tacos, the margaritas, and especially the way Elijah and Lolly treated us, tonight completely won me over. What impressed me most was the relational side of their customer service. Even though the misunderstanding could very well have been on our end, they still asked, "What can we do on our end to make this right?" That speaks volumes about how they treat their guests. Five stars all the way around this time. I will absolutely be back!

Enjoying our anniversary dinner. But first...drinks.

Twelve years of marriage apparently tastes like beef, ribeye tacos, and a dangerously good margarita. Jordan and I came to La Popular for our 12th anniversary, and the second we walked in, I was into it. The whole place has this sexy, modern energy with gorgeous decor, a lively buzz, perfect for a local date night. Even the waiters smelled amazing. Is that a weird thing to notice? Probably. But someone back there was wearing some fantastic cologne and I would like it entered into the official Yelp record. We started with a Watermelon Hibiscus Margarita for me and the LP Margarita for Jordan, and sweet Jesus, these people are not making decorative cocktails. They were STRONG. Beautifully balanced, dangerously smooth, super tasty. Then came my Carne Asada, rich and tender and saucy in all the right places. The meat practically surrendered under my fork. Even the beans and rice on the side were divine! Jordan ordered three Ribeye Tacos and proceeded to absolutely demolish them. There was no thoughtful discussion. No sharing. Just man, taco, silence. I believe that is the highest compliment he can give. And nothing disappointed us. NOTHING. We actually came back a few weekends later for brunch, sat at the bar, had another stellar experience...some outstanding huevos rancheros and breakfast tacos... and I forgot to take A SINGLE PHOTO. Which, in 2026, may be the greatest proof that I was having a really good time. La Popular got us twice. And there will absolutely be a third.

The Forbidden Mule
Carlos L.

Wonderful experience! From the moment we arrived, the staff was welcoming and attentive, and the ambiance made me feel like I was on vacation in a beach town on the coast of Mexico. Cocktails were well crafted. My wife enjoyed their "Mercado cocktail," which is a rotating selection, and the Forbidden Mule. I enjoyed a whiskey sour, and after trying my wife's Mule, the Mule was the clear winner. The food was delicious! For appetizers, we shared some ceviche, guacamole, and queso fundido with chorizo all options were shareable and enjoyable. For entrees, we had the corn salad, which was innovative and packed with flavor! I chose the trio plate. I selected two enchiladas, one chicken and one shrimp, the sauce was well balanced and delicious. My third option was the mahi ahi taco. Although flavorful, the fish portion was tiny, and most of the taco was filled with the cabbage mix. For dessert, we had the butter cake, which was beautifully presented but a bit dry for my taste. Overall, we had a great dining experience and will definitely return! Shoutout to Alexis and Lolli for their hospitality and for making it a fantastic first visit!

Great Mexico-City inspired restaurant in Downtown Redlands. Beautifully decorated with lively music throughout! SERVICE: Very friendly from the entry to our table. Our server was nice and attentive even though the place was packed. FOOD: So far every dish has been superb!! We tried a few things (as you can see from the pics) our favs so far? The short rib enchilada and the birria burrito. If you haven't tried La Popular yet you are missing out! Great date night place!!

Tacos and margaritas!

Tried new place in Redlands for taco Tuesday. Great service by Sarah who was super attentive. We sat on the patio and had the rib eye, carnitas, chicken and octopus tacos. All were excellent with generous toppings. Happy hour margaritas were spot on! We shall return

Jillian N.

I am so pleasantly surprised! I went in thinking it may be another overpriced Mexican restaurant in the Redlands area, but I would highly recommend as a fun downtown spot. My friend and I arrived around 12:30 on a Sunday and was given a 20-25 min wait. When it got to 40 mins, we went inside to check on the status of our table and then were immediately seated. (This is where they lost a star. Hosts have to be more accurate with wait times.) After seating though, our experience was great. Drinks are original and well balanced. Food is flavorful and well portioned for the price. Brunch menu is fairly extensive. Lots of options. I'm definitely excited to return for their lunch specials/dinner menu. And I love that they're already doing special events. Great to get connected to your community.

Complementary chips & watermelon hibiscus margarita
Marie S.

I was unaware that this Redlands location existed until today. So glad I stopped in for breakfast. Ordered a watermelon/hibiscus margarita because, why not‍. So good. Complementary chips were light and flaky. Really nice flavor. Ordered chilaquiles with green sauce. Not a spicy person and these were perfect. Extremely pleased that the chef cooked two perfectly over medium eggs. I hope they know how impressive it is, and what a talent their chef is. Made the meal a worthwhile experience. Sometimes it truly is the little things that elevate a dining experience. Staff and servers were also super friendly, and even though I was solo dining, they made me feel very comfortable. If the rest of the food and team is this good this place will do very well. I will definitely make this a regular stop when I am in the Redlands area. 5 for me

It's a perfect place for a date or a night out with friends or family. The focal point of the main dining room is the bar, which faces the restaurant's entrance. Meticulously designed with a nostalgic feel, the bar features blonde wood shelves holding hundreds of vinyl records, carefully curated design objects, and a DJ booth neatly tucked into a corner next to the bar. The beer taps are elegantly minimalist, and every detail in the bar--for example, the old-fashioned glass syrup bottles--seems planned to give a nod to history (specifically the late 19th century, when Redlands was founded). The main dining room offers plenty of comfortable seating choices, including a long bar along the center of the room. The patio is spacious and well kept. All of the spaces inside and out have music piped in from the bar. There are two restrooms just off the patio, and these are well-maintained. On busy nights, patrons can enjoy a drink in a standing bar area just off the patio. I love that the Overland provides a choice of setting depending on the kind of night you're planning. A romantic date? Get a reservation to sit inside, and it feels intimate. Just hanging out? The bar is fun as the mixologists make excellent drinks and friendly conversation. Sitting at the bar after 7 PM, you can watch the DJs spin the platters. If you have a larger group or just like to eat alfresco, the patio is perfect. The menu offers a really nice variety of drinks, including the pricier craft cocktails, more classic, moderately priced beverages, nonalcoholic drinks, and all sorts of beer and wine. The food menu is solid, with plenty of appetizers, salads, entrées, and a dessert. The real star is the tacos! These are very moderately priced at seven dollars apiece, and all three varieties are delicious! There is a potato taco, a beef taco, and pork chili Verde taco. I highly recommend these! The green salsa they provide is extremely mild, but they do have a variety of hot sauces on hand. It's worth mentioning that even a humble plate of tacos is served on nice ceramic dishes, along with good flatware and napkins. The espresso martini cheesecake is creamy and delicious, and the portion is really generous. The staff seem to enjoy working at the Overland. The servers work hard to make sure your order is to your liking, and food comes out pretty fast. There's a good sense of teamwork among them. The staff is also accommodating about seating or any special requests. We've been there on a busy Friday night, and on a Sunday evening and late night. The Overland is always at least moderately busy, so reservations are strongly recommended. The city of Redlands should be very proud of this establishment. Go and have fun!

We decided on weekend brunch, especially since there were endless mimosas. Our kids have a recollection of being down the class umbrella alleyway, so they were amazed when they saw it. A short while later, we were in front of the restaurant and were quickly seated by the staff. They didn't ask if we preferred outdoor or indoor seating, but we were seated inside right next to the kitchen. We heard that indoor seating was better for service anyway. The interior of the restaurant was "very fancy," and my daughter thought we were in a date spot. We knew we wanted French fries and opted for the garlic Parmesan fries. At first, the kids were weirded out by the arugula, but my daughter ended up enjoying it, noting the bitter and salty notes. My son devoured the entire plate (not the arugula) and asked for another round. We also ordered the lemon ricotta French toast, made from Brioche bread, lemon blackberry butter, whipped lemon ricotta cream, blackberries, mint, and maple syrup. They perfected the crispy exterior, which contrasted well with the fluffy bread. My wife ordered the breakfast pizza--a focaccia pizza topped with marinara, ham, spinach, fresh tomato, red onion, a sunny-side-up egg, and herb-infused maple syrup. This was really delicious with the tart, fresh tomatoes, the salty ham, and the sweet maple syrup. I ended up eating the sunny-side egg by itself, so we didn't get to try the pizza with the egg. Lastly, I ordered the steak and eggs, but it was sadly a small portion. I ordered it medium rare, and it came out medium. The seasoning was a bit strange and would have been better with simple salt, pepper, and garlic. The mimomas really made my wife happy. She started feeling it pretty quickly. She chose the pineapple juice while I got the traditional orange. Not sure if the alcohol made the food better or the other way around. I was brought to reality when I saw the expensive bill, though.

Unfortunately, the experience didn't live up to the hype. Service was the main issue. The bartenders seemed inexperienced, and our server wasn't familiar with the drinks, often needing to check with someone else. It took about 20 minutes to receive our first round. Our reservation was at 10:30, we were seated until 10:40, and the place closes at midnight so timing already felt tight. Because of the wait, we asked to order two drinks at once for the next round, but were told it's limited to one at a time. That would be understandable if service were faster, but it took another 20 minutes to get the second drink. We were also told drinks from the regular menu take longer, so I tried one from the specialty menu...still a 20-minute wait. It was a frustrating experience. That said, the space itself is smaller and more intimate, which could make it a nice date spot. I do think this place has potential, and I'd consider giving it another chance, hopefully with smoother service next time. Oh Beignets were amazing!! Yummy little donuts!

When we walked into this speakeasy, behind a movable shelf, I was greatly disappointed by the size of this place. It literally was the size of a walk in closet. Probably a fifth of the size of the one in Rancho. The room was so small and cramped. We sat at the round tables which was small for 2 people, and they were spaced so close to each other. Another couple sat next to us and we could here their entire conversation. The space is just so cramped. Maybe 6 round tables with barely a foot apart. Then the bar top basically when someone is sitting there, theres less then a foot of space to go inbetween. The decor is beautiful. I did enjoy the library theme. Service here is a disappointment. There was inly 2 groups (including ourselves) when we arrived and service was excessively slow. On their featured cocktails which was the same as the one in Rancho (6 drinks?), they were already out of the first 2. And mind you, they've only been open for 2 hours. We asked them to prepare unique off the menu drinks. They basically gave us drinks from the main restaurant menu. Rum for the hills and an old fashion. The bartender at the Rancho location is so much better and nicer and way more creative. Able to create unique individual drinks off the top of his head. Not here though. She asked us what we were ordering at least times. And she still got our orders (food) wrong. The glass was sticky from the sugars. We ordered no grilled onions on the burger and it came with grilled onions. She was so unsure of what they carried (alcohol wise) that she had to go ask the other guy on multiple occasions. When the bill came, we didnt get a pen to sign it with. So we went to the bar area. The guy was a total A-hole. He was like what do you want? Woah guy. We're trying to give you more of our hard earned money via tip and sign this check so we can get the heck out of here. Like chill bro. We should be there ones angry with how bad the evening went. Not you. There were multiple flies flying around our table and food. A large fly, and then a small gnat around our drink. It was gross. Overall, it was a terrible experience here. There was mystique (I give you that, love the books). But nothing high end or exclusive about it. Usage of the space and their knowledge of the drinks reminds me of a run down dive bar. They need the bartender from Rancho to come here and revamp everything about this place. The only good thing here is that we were able to order burgers (full menu availability) in this speakeasy as suppose to the one in Victoria Gardens. But besides that, I am 100% not coming back. It just isnt worth it.

The quality of food was fresh, prepared just right, and the service was fast and welcoming. It's in the nice down town Redlands area so never too busy or loud, in the small city. Our server, Aubrey, was also AWESOME so definitly give her a raise lol. My buddies and I were wanting some steaks and drinks after work, and we were not disappointed. 100% will be back. The only thing to be weary of is if you get outdoor seating. Many folks downtown tend to smoke marijuana so sometimes the smell will make its way into the patio area.

I absolutely loved the decor of this place with a big open bar. Dark Victorian meets industrial,…read morewith birdcage chandeliers and low-lit wall sconces. Definitely a fun spot for a fancy cocktail--or, in my case, a mocktail. I ordered the Hibiscus Cooler and LOVED it. The food was more of a mixed bag. I ordered the Poblano Burger, and the deep-fried poblano was SO good. Unfortunately, I ordered the patty medium and it came out overcooked. The fries were also a little undercooked, and the burger could have used more sauce. Tasty overall, just not quite hitting the mark. Then came dessert... and this is where the experience really went downhill. I ordered the crème brûlée because I've had it elsewhere and had been craving it. While waiting, I stepped away to use the restroom. When I came back, my entire table--including my drinks--had been cleared. I had literally just ordered dessert and never indicated I was finished. The server seemed confused when I questioned it, which made the whole thing even more awkward. And unfortunately, the crème brûlée itself was also a miss. The sugar topping was torched too long and had a noticeably bitter, burnt flavor. The server (and possibly a manager) apologized, and I was given $2 off the drink, which I appreciated. Between the okay food and the especially strange service and lack of communication the experience left me disappointed. The atmosphere is definitely the highlight, but for me, the service experience was enough to say I probably won't be back anytime soon.

I am a huge fan of open mic nights. I have found a few really good ones in the area and love…read moreattending them. I feel like a fangirl, hoping that my favourite performers will be there. I hope one day to see them on the stage so I can say, "I got to see them when they were small fries." The Vault hosts a lot of events, including musical open mic nights. I still prefer Writers Block's open mic night (the first Wednesday of every month). I am shocked that the event is free, with how talented the poets are. I have bought several books from one of the local poets (shout out to Winry Hagerty!!) who sells her work at the poetry event. The last time I went there were stickers from an artist, some leather works, books by poets for sale. The atmosphere at The Vault during Open Mic Night is vibrant and supportive. The audience is engaged and respectful, providing an encouraging environment for the performers to shine. It's worth noting that this event is not only entertaining but also affordable. It's free. If you're looking for an enjoyable and affordable evening filled with talent and creativity, make sure to check out The Vault's Open Mic Night.

I'm not going to be back, unless I am paid or compensated…read more I drove an whole ass hour out of town to play a FREE set at this bar, and make them money, and the asshole bartender TRENT thought that it was appropriate to not only wildly knock on the bathroom door as I was taking a shit from the drive, but to barge in on me and yell that I was "taking too long" and wildly accused me of using narcotics. I had been in there for literally 3 minutes at that point. And if I wanted to do that shit, my car was right outside. I tried to explain to him that I had just returned back inside from a smoke, but all he did was threaten to kick me out for literally NO FUCKING REASON. I am transgender, and while this used to be one of my favorite spots, I will never be returning. I have been made to feel unsafe and unwelcome at this bar and I regret the fact I spent money on beer just to calm my fucking nerves after the incident. If youre worried about people using the bathroom and taking their time, get more fucking bathrooms, and dont treat out of town talent like shit. Especially queer talent, if you're a so called "safe space"
