Spur of the moment visit on a holiday evening. Even though it was pretty empty, service was still friendly and attentive. Unfortunately, the spirit free drink options were unavailable due to missing ingredients. They offer happy hour from 9pm to 11pm on weekdays so we got a strawberry limon refresco, churros, and beer. For our meals, we went with the carnitas taco plates and quesabirria. Our beans and rice were flavorful. The main meals didn't live up to expectations so we probably have to try something else when we visit next time. The churros were delicious with the caramel sauce. Not a big fan of the chocolate sauce. Looks like a lot of appealing options to choose from and the location is ideal with other nearby restaurants. The inside was decorated in a trendy style and i appreciated the extra lighting at the table itself. For the most part, restaurant has dim intimate lighting with a couple of tvs featuring sports by the bar. I also observed the care taken into cleaning the tables outside and the emptying sections inside. The husband and I came here for lunch on a Friday. We did not wait to be seated and we came at the right time because it filled up quickly. At some point, our server handed us off to another server and it was a little bit weird...she kinda had a bit of an attitude about it like I made her switch. Well, lucky for us. The second server was better than the first and didn't make faces as my husband tries to Frankenstein the menu. Of course, my husband got the salsa flight and we both settled on the tuna tostada to start. It was really good. One bad bite, though with the slicing of the tuna. I got the chimichurri steak and I swear I could just drink that chunky chimichurri butter. It was so delicious. The drinks were a little pricey, but really good. Parking was annoying, but we were able to find a free spot on the street. The dining room is spacious and laid out well. 5 adults went for lunch on a Friday. Some of my group was already seated when I arrived. So I can't say anything towards the welcoming and seating part. Our server Alicia took our drink orders and may not have been excited to be there on this day. She wasn't happy or rude, just kind of stoic. Once all of our party had arrived and ordered, we were brought chips and salsa, which were tasty. Chips were not stale and the salsa was pretty standard. Our 5 dishes were: 1.Choose 3 plate, shrimp enchilada Suiza, pork belly taco, and Mahi mahi taco with rice and beans. 2. Tortilla soup. 3. Shrimp enchiladas Suiza. 4. Rib eye tacos 5. Chicken Suiza Enchiladas and Tortilla soup. 6. Grilled chicken salad. The shrimp enchiladas were really good. Well flavored and tender shrimp. The pork belly taco was a little too smoky. Not sure if it was liquid smoke or actually over smoked. The mahi mahi taco was cooked perfectly but lacked flavor. The rice and beans needed more flavor. I had to ask for salt and pepper. The tortillas soup was a big disappointment. We actually sent it back and ordered a grilled chicken salad as a replacement meal. The soup seemed to have a lackluster amount of ingredients in soup base so dark, it tasted like it was straight out of a Las Palmas can of enchilada sauce. The grilled chicken salad seemed to be fresh and the chicken flavored well. The rib eye tacos were good. The chicken Suiza enchiladas were good. The chips and guacamole were fresh and tasty. The home made Flan with vanilla bean ice cream was probably the best thing of the day. I do like high end Mexican food with dishes or recipes that you cant get anywhere else that keep you coming back, but was not that impressed. And I really had high hopes for this dining experience. I'm so glad I decided to give La Popular another try after my first visit! This time I came on a Thursday night to hang out with the girls, and we had such a fun experience. Thursday nights have some great specials, and we were especially excited about the margaritas. There ended up being a misunderstanding on our part about how one of the happy hour specials worked, but what really stood out to me was how they handled it. Rather than just telling us we had misunderstood, they took the time to talk with us and adjusted our bill to reflect what we genuinely believed we were supposed to pay. They absolutely did not have to do that, and as someone who has worked in customer service before, I really appreciated the care and personal attention they gave us. Elijah was AMAZING from the beginning. He took such great care of our table and made the whole experience fun. Then Lolly came over when we had the misunderstanding about the special, listened to us, and went above and beyond to make things right. The service on my first visit was already great, but tonight it was exceptional. That kind of hospitality makes such a difference! And the FOOD! The chips and salsa are still bomb , but this time I switched up what I ordered and found some things I really loved. I had the short rib tacos and chicken tinga tacos, and both were yummy. My friends ordered the cachetada tacos, which I obviously had to try , and those were delicious too! We also shared the guacamole, which was really good, and of course we enjoyed our grande margaritas. After my first visit, I had a feeling that maybe I just hadn't ordered the right things for my personal taste, so I wanted to come back and give them another shot. I'm SO glad I did. Between the Thursday specials, the tacos, the margaritas, and especially the way Elijah and Lolly treated us, tonight completely won me over. What impressed me most was the relational side of their customer service. Even though the misunderstanding could very well have been on our end, they still asked, "What can we do on our end to make this right?" That speaks volumes about how they treat their guests. Wonderful experience! From the moment we arrived, the staff was welcoming and attentive, and the ambiance made me feel like I was on vacation in a beach town on the coast of Mexico. Cocktails were well crafted. My wife enjoyed their "Mercado cocktail," which is a rotating selection, and the Forbidden Mule. I enjoyed a whiskey sour, and after trying my wife's Mule, the Mule was the clear winner. The food was delicious! For appetizers, we shared some ceviche, guacamole, and queso fundido with chorizo all options were shareable and enjoyable. For entrees, we had the corn salad, which was innovative and packed with flavor! I chose the trio plate. I selected two enchiladas, one chicken and one shrimp, the sauce was well balanced and delicious. My third option was the mahi ahi taco. Although flavorful, the fish portion was tiny, and most of the taco was filled with the cabbage mix. For dessert, we had the butter cake, which was beautifully presented but a bit dry for my taste. Twelve years of marriage apparently tastes like beef, ribeye tacos, and a dangerously good margarita. Jordan and I came to La Popular for our 12th anniversary, and the second we walked in, I was into it. The whole place has this sexy, modern energy with gorgeous decor, a lively buzz, perfect for a local date night. Even the waiters smelled amazing. Is that a weird thing to notice? Probably. But someone back there was wearing some fantastic cologne and I would like it entered into the official Yelp record. We started with a Watermelon Hibiscus Margarita for me and the LP Margarita for Jordan, and sweet Jesus, these people are not making decorative cocktails. They were STRONG. Beautifully balanced, dangerously smooth, super tasty. Then came my Carne Asada, rich and tender and saucy in all the right places. The meat practically surrendered under my fork. Even the beans and rice on the side were divine! Jordan ordered three Ribeye Tacos and proceeded to absolutely demolish them. There was no thoughtful discussion. No sharing. Just man, taco, silence. I believe that is the highest compliment he can give. And nothing disappointed us. NOTHING. We actually came back a few weekends later for brunch, sat at the bar, had another stellar experience...some outstanding huevos rancheros and breakfast tacos... and I forgot to take A SINGLE PHOTO. I was unaware that this Redlands location existed until today. So glad I stopped in for breakfast. Ordered a watermelon/hibiscus margarita because, why not‍. So good. Complementary chips were light and flaky. Really nice flavor. Ordered chilaquiles with green sauce. Not a spicy person and these were perfect. Extremely pleased that the chef cooked two perfectly over medium eggs. I hope they know how impressive it is, and what a talent their chef is. Made the meal a worthwhile experience. Sometimes it truly is the little things that elevate a dining experience. Staff and servers were also super friendly, and even though I was solo dining, they made me feel very comfortable. I am so pleasantly surprised! I went in thinking it may be another overpriced Mexican restaurant in the Redlands area, but I would highly recommend as a fun downtown spot. My friend and I arrived around 12:30 on a Sunday and was given a 20-25 min wait. When it got to 40 mins, we went inside to check on the status of our table and then were immediately seated. (This is where they lost a star. Hosts have to be more accurate with wait times.) After seating though, our experience was great. Drinks are original and well balanced. Food is flavorful and well portioned for the price. Brunch menu is fairly extensive. Lots of options. I'm definitely excited to return for their lunch specials/dinner menu. I was searching Yelp for a Mexican restaurant for our 21st wedding anniversary dinner, and La Popular came up with excellent reviews. We were nearby, so my husband and I decided to give them a try! We went for dinner on a Thursday evening, arriving around 6pm. Parking is not the best. Your options are the free parking structure north of the train tracks, about a 2-3 minute walk, or paid parking near the restaurant. The paid parking was around $14, which was pretty pricey. To be fair, the Redlands Public Market is right across from La Popular, and by the time we left, the parking lot was packed. The ambiance at La Popular was really nice. There was plenty of lighting and greenery that made it feel calm and inviting. We sat across from the bar with a view of the Metrolink tracks, and there were plenty of TVs showing news and sports. They also have a disco ball in honor of their first location in Mexico City, which turns into a nightclub in the evening. Our server, Paige P, shared some of the restaurant's history with us, which was a nice touch. We just missed Thirsty Thursday, their happy hour, which ends at 6pm. Paige offered to put an order in for us, which was very generous but we decided not to. It was our first visit and we didn't want her to rush an order for us. I ordered the spicy watermelon agua fresca. I am NOT a spicy-tolerant eater, so our server, Paige, requested a mild version for me. It was delicious and tasted very fresh, with Tajín around the rim. I would definitely order it again. The food came out beautifully plated and picture-ready--which, of course, meant I took plenty of pictures. I ordered the 3-combo plate, where you can choose any three tacos or enchiladas. I chose a chicken Suiza enchilada and two tacos: one birria and one street corn. It also came with rice, beans, and consommé. Overall, the food hit the spot. The chicken in the Suiza enchilada was a little dry for my liking, but I enjoyed everything else. The beans had a little kick to them, but nothing too spicy for my very low spice tolerance. My husband ordered the chicken fajitas with corn tortillas. His plate did not come with rice and beans and only came with two street-size corn tortillas, which was a little surprising. And then came dessert. THE BUTTER CAKE. The butter cake was served warm and topped with vanilla ice cream, strawberries, and passion fruit custard. I died and went to heaven. It was SO good and easily one of my favorite parts of the meal. Overall, we had a great first experience at La Popular and a nice dinner celebrating our 21st anniversary. The food is not authentic Mexican. Rice tastes like it came out of a box. The green enchiladas were dry, little to no sauce. It seemed likes there was only one server at the time we went, because our server was all over the place, but our table (honestly, she didn't seem happy to be there at all). La Popular is a new gem in Redlands. We didn't have a reservation, and wish we did. It was packed! The free chips & salsa are solid, but if it's your first time spring for the salsa flight -- it's worth a try! We got the corn taco plate (for a vegetarian) and the ribeye taco plate. Both were excellent! Their margaritas are a solid 4.5/5, very delicious. The desserts were great, too. We loved the churros, and the butter cake was very good. It's visually appealing inside, and if you're a fan of what feels like a DJ set that is perpetually 125 BPM you'll like the music, too. Literally, the beat keeps going forever at 125 BPM. We checked. It's not too distracting, just... unique. Angel was a great server, and the rest of the staff actually looks like they care, too. What a nice thing to find! Seems to be well managed. We let a bunch of folks know about this place and will be back for another date night. My one qualm was that the butter cake was too soft/cakey. I was ruined by trying the Mastro's butter cake, and nothing has ever come close. If La Popular could get the texture right on it, it would be great. Parking: Park in the parking structure for the train station. It's free, and the restaurant is right over the train tracks (with an easy path to cross). Pro-tip: You are right across the way from the Redlands Public Market, and a short walk from State Street. You can park once and enjoy a night in Redlands walking: RPM, Board Game Paradise, A La Minute, etc. are all walkable. read more

I've tried the tinga, corn, and grilled shrimp tacos, and the corn and grilled shrimp are definitely my favorites. I also stopped by for brunch and had the breakfast burrito, which was absolutely delicious. For drinks, I sampled the Spirit-Free Paloma and the Sonora Sunrise Spritz. The Spritz was my favorite, light, refreshing, and full of flavor. I also tried the Golazo Tropical Margarita. It was a little sweeter than I usually prefer, but if you enjoy guava, you'll probably love it since that flavor really shines through. One more bonus: parking is incredibly convenient. There's a nearby parking structure with plenty of spaces, making it easy to stop in without worrying about finding parking. Overall, this is a fantastic addition to the area. So we walked in, we were greeted. The ambience inside is nice and welcoming. They have indoor and outdoor seating. They have TVs overlooking the bar, I don't know if they have TVs outside. We sat at the bar and ordered food and drinks. The food was excellent. We ordered the Ahi tuna tostada, which was so flavorful. I will definitely order this again and we also ordered the tri-tip tacos, the meat was so tender and flavorful again this is something I will definitely order again. The only downfall was the tacos was a combo so it did come with rice and beans which I can't not brag about due to the fact that they did not have a whole lot of flavor. A little disappointing. The overall experience was great all the bartenders at the bar, especially Kim, she's a bartender there, we're all great and very attentive. I will definitely come here again. For the food we had ceviche, a Birria quesadilla, and the flan. My favorite was probably the flan. The birria wasn't bad but I wouldn't order or recommend it. Pretty good for a Mexican sit down joint. It's supposed to be Mexico City inspired, and it's refined but with a sort of unmistakably chain-like polish that feels a little cheap. But the food is very not bad! I'd recommend anything Costra style -- it comes with grilled cheese on the outside. They have a really good mix of indulgent and fresh options. Try the Baja shrimp for something lighter; it's pretty standard, you can't go wrong there. For something more indulgent, try the quesabirria plate: braised short rib with a ton of cheese, served with consommé for dipping. For a vegetarian option, try the charro beans -- they have a bit of an Indian feel, a little spicy and very layered. Prices are also very reasonable here. read more

New spot in Redlands next to the new Eureka location. Walking in we had a 15 minute wait but two chairs inside for you to avoid the heat. Many other people came in after us and had to wait outside in the heat as there is really no waiting area inside so get there early. The greeters and servers were great and worth 5 stars. I had the LP Margarita which was pretty good. I also had the Ribeye taco, chicken tinga taco and carnitas taco. Tacos were ok and could use a little more meat for a happy hour price of $4.25. They serve with one corn tortilla which is ok for the meat tacos but not so much for the tinga. The juice caused the tortilla to break apart. They might want to think about doubling tortillas for the chicken. The salsa flight was actually a very good choice to get different types of salsas. The vibe inside is also pretty good with music playing in the background and people just have a great time. They offer a tequila club much like Eurekas whiskey club that gets you discounts and monthly tequila bottle at $85 a month. We elected not to become members. read more

La Popular is such a cute, trendy Mexican restaurant that I believe has the potential to become very popular. As we entered we were greeted by a warm welcome and smile by the host who quickly sat us. The environment is fun and upbeat with a great open floor plan. The biggest down side is they leave ALL the doors open on hot summer days so the restaurant is very very hot!! You'd be better off sitting outside with the misters. After we got sat we waited about 10 minutes to get greeted by a server who asked us if we've been helped out yet. We let her know we have not and she proceeded to take our order. It seems the staff is still learning the menu as they didn't have answers to a lot of questions and didn't know what the happy hour consisted of. We ordered Grande LP margaritas off the happy hour menu along with the queso fundido and guacamole. Both appetizers were fantastic! The margaritas tasted more like pure lime than a well balanced margarita. After our appetizers we ordered Ribeye tacos, Carnitas, and Chicken tinga to really try the variety. The carnitas was our favorite with ribeye coming next. We wouldn't order the chicken tinga again. I think the ribeye tacos could do without the pico as it was mostly just tomato and took away from the flavors of everything else. Lastly we ordered the churros which were delicious! Definitely would order again as they were hot and crispy. As the server dropped off our check we noticed that we hadn't been charged for the happy hour priced margaritas and churros. She told us that the Grande margaritas aren't on happy hour. When the happy hour clearly states they are. So after some back and forth she took the receipt to her manager. She brought pack the receipt with the corrected priced margaritas, but added another churros anywho it took about 20 mins just to close out. It took 3 separate times to get the correct check. It was just frustrating as we were wanting to leave. It was my first time here and let me start by saying the ribeye tacos were disgusting, the meat was super tough and hard to chew. The patio misters were more like a shower. The server was not very friendly I would not recommend this restaurant. I think it's overrated. Definitely not authentic Mexican food read more

We ordered 3 Modelo Especial beer, 1 taco Gochujang Carnitas a la Carte, 3 Carnitas taco a la Carte, 3 Ribeye taco a la Carte, 1 Street Corn taco a la Carte, 1 Salsa tray, 1 Flan, 1 Butter Cake, 2 Coffee. The staff here were extraordinary and very helpful and attentive! The ambiance here was at first relatively noisy. When the two entertainers started to play it got louder.
