[Long Island Restaurant Week] Price Fixe Menu Review: I've been wanting to try La Plage for what felt like decades now. I finally had the opportunity and I'm mad at myself for not coming sooner. The Food was absolutely amazing, the drinks went down smooth, and the service was spectacular. Located on the water in Wading River, this restaurant wasn't hard to find it's just that getting here might be the problem. There are TONS of deer in the area so my suggestion is to come while it's still light out. I saw at least 10 deer on the streets leading to the restaurant. This restaurant has amazing views. The parking might be tough. The lot is really small and it's risky to park across the street without a permit. The Restaurant is decorated beautifully and had such a welcoming feel. I felt so comfortable and cozy being here. I love the fresh flowers placed around the restaurant. The candles on each tables were so romantic. This is a definite date night spot! During the summer, they offer outdoor seating. Since it was restaurant week, the deal was amazing. The Prices on the regular menu are fair as well. I loved the experience here I can't wait to come back and order off the regular menu! Thank you Max for making my first La Plage dinner an incredible one! My server Max was personable, knowledgeable about the menu, and kept checking up on my table throughout my meal. I was offered drink refills and my water glass never went below half full. I was able to enjoy my meal and take my time. The ticket times for the food were wonderful and gave me enough time to relax between courses. Thank you to the other services who also kept checking on my table! You all did a wonderful job. The Drinks were great. I had red ruby martinis and mandarin martinis. Both were so good. The Food was downright incredible! It was clearly made with love. I could tell each dish had so much effort put into it. The dishes were plated beautifully. The portions were fairly large, I was definitely satisfied when I left. I will be reviewing what I tried: -Complimentary Fresh Warm Rolls & Butter, I was given seconds. -Artisanal Cheese Plate (Regular Menu): Perfect to order while having a few drinks and making conversation. The cheeses selected were all delectable and I would definitely order this again. 5 out of 5 stars -French Onion & Apple Soup (Long Island Restaurant Week Appetizer): I know what your thinking, apples in French onion soup?!? But the answer is YES! And yes is by far the correct answer. The soup was some of the best French onion I've ever had and the addition of apple gave it a crunchy component. 5 out of 5 stars -Crispy Pork Belly & Shrimp with Sage & Ham Risotto (LI RW Entree): 3 beautifully grilled shrimp with succulent seasoned pork belly. This entree blew me away. It was 100% perfection. No one can make a better risotto! 5 out of 5 stars -Warm Pumpkin Bread Pudding (LI RW Dessert): Absolutely delicious. This dessert impressed me and was the perfect end to my meal at La Plage. 5 out of 5 stars -Chocolate Mousse (LI RW Dessert): So rich & creamy, this chocolate mousse was so delectable. The fresh whipped cream also added a heightened flavor to the dessert. 5 out of 5 stars I had such a great time at La Plage. This restaurant is small so I suggest making a reservation. This is such a romantic restaurant. The service was great and the food was delicious. Can't wait to come again! read more

They are top notch. We went for lunch, had reservations. We tried their prix fix menu. The selections for a three course meal was unbelievable. I had their mussels in a wine broth, that had sliced yellow and red grape tomatoes and small cubes of polenta. Marvelous. I then ordered the branzino which was grilled and served on a bed of couscous and slivered asparagus. The dessert was the Sicilian inspired orange flavored panna cotta with fresh strawberries. All this for $30. And for $5. more a glass of Macari's wine. The duck confit was served over risotto. We ate everything. No left overs. The wait servers were attentive and bread with whipped butter was promptly brought to the table. We had a beautiful view of the Long Island Sound from the porch room. Too windy to sit outdoors. We've been for lunch a half dozen times and the prix fixe has been OK for the price. Nice daytime atmosphere w cool views out the back door. Went for dinner last week for the first time and found the experience somewhat off putting. Granted the menu reads well, but unfortunately execution was a problem. My steak request was medium rare and it came medium well. If you are going to charge $53 for an 8 oz steak you best deliver as requested. I complained twice about it before they acknowledged the problem. They offered me something else when they noticed I didn't eat it, unfortunately it was at the end of the meal and my wife was already done with her entree and ready for dessert. On a good note they did comp get the steak in its entirety. One other issue..,this is suppose to be a French based cuisine, yet they only had one bottle of red French on the wine list. Was very much waiting to try this place due to the stellar reviews, however, once our food arrived - things took a turn. The staff was wonderful - pleasant and attentive as soon as we walked in. We were off to a great start - the bread (nice, fresh and hot) and butter were delicious. Our starters were mussels (which were very good), the charred octopus appetizer would not have fed a baby bird, the corn soup (not sure what all the hooplah is about) - tasted like watered down pureed corn, and the lobster ravioli was good but we found no lobster and it was very small portion. My main dish was the osso bucco and risotto (which was a pork knuckle, hard rice swimming in liquid). It tasted like pasta fagioli to me. Also, one note to the manager - you need more lighting in the parking lot and front door. When trying to leave, the front mud room was totally dark. We needed to take our phones out in order to see where we were going. The bill was large but our experience was not. I will give this place one more try in the summer months and will review again. read more

WARNING..$100 parking fee. The few spaces in front and side of the restaurant were all taken on a Sat night. There is no street parking. We parked in a large parking lot 1/2 block down from the restaurant. We returned to find $100 parking fine because it is a beach parking lot for residents of Wading River only. I am infuriated because the restaurant is well aware of the problem yet does NOTHING to inform their patrons. read more

Food was fabulous..... service was also professional. However the 100 dollar ticket at the end of my amazing meal ruined it. The parking lot has yellow and white lined spots ...if you park in the wrong color spots you get ticket . This is a parking trap that is totally unfair at 7pm , especially when you are trying to support a local small business. Sadly, it will only make others go elsewhere to dine! read more

Something magical is happening in the kitchen at La Plage. We've been to La Plage several times over the years before Covid and always enjoyed the food. We returned last evening hoping to find the food just as delicious and comforting as we remembered. We were not disappointed! We started with the beet salad which was lightly dressed, studded with pistachios and generous with the beets. They serve the most delightful little rolls, fresh out of the oven, piping hot with a whipped butter that is irresistible! Hubby opted for the short ribs served with a corn and pancetta risotto that was out of this world. (our waiter recommended that we order it this way which was a little bit different than it was offered on the menu). I opted for the filet mignon and I must say it was perfectly cooked, served on the creamiest mashed potatoes with a mushroom au jus, it was beyond my expectations! The venue is quaint, the service is excellent and it's worth the drive to this out-of-the-way location for the exceptional experience that La Plage offers. read more

We were heading west, after a meal out in Greenport, and googled to find a dessert and coffee establishment along the way. La Plage in Wading River came up. It's a small place across the road from the town beach. Was not sure, if we'd get a table,because it was near dinner time and the tables were set with starch, white tablecloths. The hostess was delightful, and gave us a table in the small backroom that had a view of the marshland. The dessert menu was perfect for us. It was a splurge, but it was a special weekend for us. See the photo of the menu. The ice cream is homemade, presentations a work of art, and delicious coffee. The service was excellent. Will definitely stop by again. read more

A true hidden gem. Beautiful sunsets. Great cocktails. Food never disappoints. We come back time and time again. Highly recommend espresso martini, dirty martini, dark and stormy. Two of us went for dinner last night. We started off with two appetizers, the burrata and the lobster ravioli. I took one bite of the ravioli and looked at my husband who must have read my mind. Absolutely ZERO flavor. It wasn't bad, but it was as if I was eating solid air. We moved onto the burrata, and again, ZERO flavor. We legitimately began wondering if we had covid, but knew it couldn't be true, as we could taste the coconut in our coconut margaritas. For our mains, we ordered the pork osso bucco and the papardelle with scallop, shrimp, chorizo, and "spicy" pomodoro sauce. Again, took one bite and looked at each other so confused. We tried each others dishes, and concurred that they had ZERO flavor whatsoever. Like we could have been eating white rice, which honestly has more flavor than any of the dishes we had last night. Service was slow and the restaurant was not packed. Save yourself the trip. read more

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED 4.5 STARS One of the extreme pleasures associated with Long Island's bi-annual Restaurant Week promotions is to be able to dine at some of Long Island's finest upscale restaurants without taking out a second mortgage. Hence, my lovely and I chose a cold January evening to enjoy the highly regarded cuisine at La Plage, one of the finest restaurants in northeast Suffolk. The restaurant is located almost immediately adjacent to the Long Island Sound. If you cannot find parking in the small lot adjacent to the restaurant, try the lot across the street that really adjoins the sound. Restaurant Week promotions vary in excitement .......from limited choice ho hum to truly exciting. In the winter of 2019, La Plage's promotion lands squarely in the latter category. We started with libations. She....a glass of local Lenz Merlot. Me....a Grey Goose Vodka Martini ( no OCD jokes please!). Two great drinks. The apps fell into two categories. Mine (Szechuan Carrot Soup) good. Hers (PEI Mussels with Basil, Polenta and Tomato) exquisite and more than worth the $6 surcharge.The Soup was a bit under-seasoned but was still flavorful and satisfying. The Mussels were so delicious. Moreover, the portion was entree-sized so I was able to pilfer quite a few and sigh in satisfaction as I devoured them. The entrees.....I chose the Pork Osso Buco. It was succulently braised to a "fall off the bone" texture. The portion was ample as well. A definite "order again". My lovely praised her Pan Roasted Salmon which arrived atop Grilled Lettuce, Sweet Corn and Mushrooms. The desserts were wonderful. I dug the Warm Apple Butter Crepe with Homemade Buttermilk Ice Cream. She dug the Profiterole, which was enhanced by the addition of Dark Chocolate Ice Cream , Candied Pecans and Caramel Sauce. I must emphasize that this restaurant is dark and romantic.....a great date destination. Moreover, our young female server was very pleasant and attentive. BOTTOM LINE: A Restaurant Week home run. This evening proved that La Plage richly deserves its consensus 4.5 rating. read more

This is a tricky review to write. My lobster special (whole lobster with sunchokes) and the mussels appetizer were EXCEPTIONAL. My husband's fish special, on the other hand, was not remarkable; it was standard flavor profiles, a bit over cooked and needed seasoning, The chocolate banana bread pudding was more like a chocolate lava cake -- delicious!-- but the apple pastry dessert was just average. We had 7:00 reservations and were seated in a back area, no view but we'd been staying at a home adjacent to the restaurant so we've seen the view for over 2 weeks. Others seated in this room asked to be moved but we didn't see the need. We started off with cocktails.... Cosmo, coconut margarita and an old fashion.... All were perfectly executed. We shared the pork belly bao sandwiches ... absolutely delicious and may be the best part of the meal. I had the salmon, it was good but not outstanding. I don't believe there was any seasoning at all. My daughter had the duck and was disappointed as to blandness of the risotto, alternatively my husband had the rigatoni pasta with shrimp and loved it. read more

La Plage has the atmosphere of a casual beach restaurant, like something you would find in the south or France or Spain, with the cuisine of a Michelin Star Restaurant that would take an act of congress to get a reservation at. Sorry to be having to share this. Had anniversary dinner here last night and it was not good. I let them know the occasion and yet we were sat by the bathroom- romantic having everyone in the restaurant brushing past us and standing behind my chair... The service was rushed- server didn't ask how we wanted courses- brought oysters with other apps and took salad away without asking before I was done. The worst however was the food. Poorly seasoned- sauces were thin and either flavorless or way out of balance. Fried rice in Fluke dish was a salt lick (way too much soy sauce presumably) with little other flavor, the Branzino was uninspired, sandy from the clams some of which were not the freshest tasting, chorizo was bland (tasted like baloney), broth was watery and lacked any real flavor, and the tart apple salad was limp, looked pre-prepared and sitting around/not fresh and overpowered by too much sesame oil in the dressing. Lobster ravioli was fine, but again with a watery, poorly seasoned sauce. All around far below their usual high standards we've experienced in the past. The only thing high end about the meal were the prices. Very disappointing. read more

Understated elegance. La Plage is the best restaurant in the area. It's a little out of the way, down by the water, and 100% worth leaving the beaten path to get there. It's not fancy-- it's just amazing. It's most definitely a fine dining experience but without the fussiness that usually comes along with that. The cocktails are delicious as well as the incredible food- which I would characterize as new American with a French feel, with an expertise in seafood. I would enthusiastically recommend it for dates, special occasions, get togethers with friends. I do not recommend it for families w young children. There's no kids menu nor high chairs, and it's somewhat close quarters. Definitely make a reservation or it's likely you'll be disappointed. read more

Excellent food, service, and ambience. I had no idea this place has been open for more than 20 years! We went to use a gift certificate. We shared mussels and the beet salad to start--they brought us the salad split on two plates which was a nice touch. And the mussel broth was SO luscious and tasty. For the entree I had the duck leg confit with "truffle essence" which I'd eat again and recommend. It comes with chive risotto and tableside mushrooms. I appreciated the tableside mushrooms--the skin on the duck stayed crispy even with the shrooms and broth poured over. Very good. My boyfriend got the lamb shank and it was HUGE. He loved it. All of our food was wonderful and I'd like to come back here for a special occasion. It's romantic and dimly lit with a welcoming atmosphere. Not too fancy and certainly not too casual. read more
